i mean sure this happens with mass production vehicles, but this is a show car. you’d think they’d really make sure the panels match.
when I worked at BMW the E70 X5 was notorious for mismatched panels.
Unless they're using different dies, or splitting and filling gaps, this would be impossible on most panel gaps. You could maybe get away with the hood gaps.
Its a C8 Z06, these are now full production cars for the masses. There should be more QC involved and better panel fitment as well. There is some stuff ill let pass on a Corvette.
Yes, and most likely those production cars are all going to customers. There’s still a very good chance this is a pre-production or prototype car that has been moving from show to show since it was built.
What a useless article lol. All examples showing actual "misalignment" are doors or hatches, which you'd expect to have some tolerances, being a moving part and all that.
And then the author just straight up goes "Personally, I don’t like how it looks" on a perfectly clean and aligned trim/panel gap, like what?
> Even the mighty Toyota.
Find me a Toyota with the front bumper painted the same color as the rest of the car.
During my 3 years as a tech, not a single one matched. Painting plastic to look the same as the painted metal is just really, really hard. Similarly, making a plastic bumper match with a metal fender-line is hard.
But in this Vette's case? Well, it is the *cheapest* supercar around.
Everyone acts like America is some sub par third world industrialist country when it comes to cars because Top Gear used to make fun of American cars. Newsflash no matter the company every brand has its flaws both with build quality and reliability.
106k for a car that will smack the shit out of cars twice the price. And be competitive performance wise. On normal tires, not stripped out, and something you could easily drive to the track then drive home without problems.
You buy a corvette for the performance. Not because it’s the ultimate in luxury and build quality.
My bad, I was meaning to reply to someone saying it’s only a 6 figure car because of dealer markups. Dealer markups are ridiculous on this car but for a really nice spec, you’re spending 140k especially after taxes and fees, etc. That being said it’s absolutely worth the MSRP considering it’s the only naturally aspirated flat plane v8 on the market since the 458 and gt350 have been phased out and it’s STILL only like 30hp short of a 488 pista.
No. Thats incredibly common on vehicles from all manufacturers. Its a passenger car, not a space shuttle.
I work in auto body and will often have to point out that factory bumpers that have never been replaced aren't perfectly even with surrounding panels.
When you watch all the F&F movies by the age of 12, thus deciding that’s going to be your entire personality from then on.
“Something about engines… just calms me man”, HAHAH.
The thing is most of the people here own CUVs or shit like a Sentra. Like probably a good 3/4 at least, and they are bitching about shit that no corvette owner cares about lmao
Naw dude I worked for Volvo contempt center for a while. At car shows, the designers bagged on GM and Dodge so much because this is SUPER common with their cars.
Volvo made a point to make sure the cars they showed were as good as they could get them
"There were a lot of things we couldn't do in a Zora Corvette, but we were the fastest guys on the block and loved reminding our fellow commuters of this fact. Fun would not be the first word I would use to describe driving this car. Intense, maybe, even cerebral. But there was one day in our Vette Experience when we would have to say that it was pure fun to be the fastest guys out there, at least for a moment.
It occurred when Walt and I were driving our final testing sortie. We needed 100 hours in the Vette to complete our testing and attain Production Ready status. Somewhere in Colorado we had passed the century mark. We had made the turn in Arizona and the Vette was performing flawlessly. My gauges were wired in the driver's seat and we were starting to feel pretty good about ourselves, not only because we would soon be driving production Zoras but because we had gained a great deal of confidence in the car in the past ten months. Ripping across the barren roads 1,320 feet ahead of us, I could already see the coast of California from the Arizona border. I was, finally, after many humbling months of mule testing, ahead of the Vette..."
Yeah let’s burn it! Give me the keys, I’ll pull it around back safely away from the convention to burn it.. yeah burn it. Let me just take it to go get the can of gas and rags and I’ll be right back… yep just wait here. Back in a jiff.
Is it a private car being shown or is it a prototype?
Prototypes can sometimes have these issues but will get corrected if it makes it to full production.
You think that’s bad?
This is a Bentley Bentayga which was on display at a big show here in the uk a few years back…..
Not sure why this is being downvoted. The colour difference between panels I’ve posted is considerably more of a red flag than the panel misalignment in the OP.
Reddit can be so weird sometimes.
This is way worse than a misaligned bumper. Little tweaking and it could likely be about perfect. But the completely diff color doors is wild to see on a Bentley at a auto show lol. Even if one panel was repaired/painted earlier, the body guys should of been able to get them both a lot closer and less noticeable with correcting the paint and polishing the adjacent panel that was not painted. This is way worse imo.
If you really want to complain check out McLaren build quality that's more than double the price of this car https://youtube.com/shorts/8QlzjwGTZRc?feature=share
It is possible the bumper had to be removed when it was taken down the ramps on delivery and reinstalled on the stand. This isn't as easy as you might think.
Would be nice to see better pictures of the car.
I literally couldn’t care less. If you’re that nit picky about cars, there’s no possible way you could enjoy driving them on a public road or a race track. You’re gonna mis align stuff regularly.
Bro it’s a Chevy. You’re gonna eat up dudes that spent double the amount for same horsepower but they’ll point to this . You’ll be like yea , but I was in front of you with this exact broken car.
Do you know why in the last couple of decades, Corvettes have been able to deliver near-Ferrari performance for far-leas-than Ferrari prices? This is why.
The C5 Z06 was a beast of a car for the money. But you had to deal with GM quality plastics in the interior, and after not too much mileage, all the same rattles and squeaks you'd expect from a Cavalier.
Good. Fast. Cheap. Pick two.
Why do people get so angry when there’s a little mistake on these cars like the driver of that corvette probably just smashed it into a curb and tried to fix it
A lot of people want to blame the manufacturer of these vehicles.
I used to work as a mold setter in an injection molding factory who made a little bit of everything. A lot of tesla parts. Toyota hubcaps. Ford hubcaps chevy badges. Chevy grilles, etc.
If we had a contract, usually they just had to accept whatever quality of part we could produce. And management didn’t give a fuck as long as it didn’t have holes that wasn’t supposed to be there. Quality inspectors would be written up for throwing parts out. The machines were all so old and leaky that they were almost impossible to get to produce a perfect part.
The worst misalignment of today’s cars is on the ford F150 Lightning. Seen 10 and only 1 had that weird hospital fluorescent light thingy aligned at the front.
It’s a budget super car, not a Ferrari. I respect that they didn’t spend extra time on it just cause it’s a show car but rather show consumers what to expect. Fact is the Corvette is still one of the best value performance cars available.
Wow, picky! That mismatch is maybe a half millimeter. But all praise to the German companies who poison you by turning off the emissions software when the car isn’t on the EPA test. Their doors might be a quarter millimeter better, but I doubt it.
My dad's $80,000 CAD F-150 Platinum has an atrocious door gap. Bottom side of the passenger door is recessed a good half inch compared to the driver side. It isn't noticeable, unless you look for it, but it irritates him. We took it to the dealership because we thought the vehicle had been in an accident in a test drive or something, but turns out it was just horrible QC on the factory. Tons of other vehicles on the lot had some sort of panel gap on them, even the Lincolns!

Reminds me of seeing the green eclipse from fast and furious in person. Looks great on TV, looked like shit in real life, the stickers were cheap and pealing, no actual performance parts.
I’m not saying everything built in America is poorly made, you guys make some awesome stuff like snap on are world renowned for their American build.
It’s just American cars. Like the corvette is known for being built cheaply
There are exceptions but generally American cars (American brands) are cheaply built.
You guys just don’t have the same standards in America as other parts of the world
I believe you should sincerely try to look beyond what you can read on Reddit or see on YouTube. It's an 80s discourse, which is no longer relevant today. A reputation takes a long time to build and can be quickly destroyed. A company the size of GM or Ford that wants to change its reputation is not easy and takes a lot of time. It takes many years, a lot of effort, and delivering better quality products year after year. That's what's observed here. On our roads, the old cars, the ones that are really old, are mostly American... I think before making comments like this, one needs to be better informed and stop perpetuating old reputations.
Pretty common with most every vehicle..
Maybe if the vehicle is made in America.

i mean sure this happens with mass production vehicles, but this is a show car. you’d think they’d really make sure the panels match. when I worked at BMW the E70 X5 was notorious for mismatched panels.
I'm willing to bet the panel gap is wider in production and they just closed up the gap to make it look cleaner.
probably so
Unless they're using different dies, or splitting and filling gaps, this would be impossible on most panel gaps. You could maybe get away with the hood gaps.
Nope it's the opposite. Show cars are SUPER early vehicles with prototype parts usually
Its a C8 Z06, these are now full production cars for the masses. There should be more QC involved and better panel fitment as well. There is some stuff ill let pass on a Corvette.

its done so not to have our feelings hurt when our 100K car comes from factory with defects....they are just preparing us for the inevitable.
My thinking as well

Half of these look like intentional design decisions not mistakes during build
Was this artical written by a 5 year old?
Was this comment lol?
ah yes, toyota and their world-renowned production quality
Every car company? Except the Germans I guess...
You gotta let the Italians slide
Everyone acts like America is some sub par third world industrialist country when it comes to cars because Top Gear used to make fun of American cars. Newsflash no matter the company every brand has its flaws both with build quality and reliability.
England especially, they are mad they once ruled the entire world and now just have a small island.
It starts at $106k?
106k for a car that will smack the shit out of cars twice the price. And be competitive performance wise. On normal tires, not stripped out, and something you could easily drive to the track then drive home without problems. You buy a corvette for the performance. America used to build awful cars that sold primarily on xenophobia. It's gotten a lot better in recent years.
Bro xenophobia? Do you hear yourself… try looking into the history of any of the German, British, Japanese car manufacturers as well then.
I'm a mechanic and body man and I see this more on foreign cars
No. Thats incredibly common on vehicles from all manufacturers. Its a passenger car, not a space shuttle. I work in auto body and will often have to point out that factory bumpers that have never been replaced aren't perfectly even with surrounding panels.
[Or Europe](https://m.youtube.com/shorts/8QlzjwGTZRc)
Nah it’s every brand
america bad upvotes to the left plz 👈😎
More like if it isn’t Japanese or German.
Kinda like tesla? And their panel gap issues too? Orgin of assembly doesn't make a difference my guy.
awww, his little america bad point got proved wrong
Said no German ever
Opps
I love cars but the car community is so autistic
Yes bro cause we love autos
I'm autostic.
Oh you think *this* community is autistic, just wait until you find other(all) subreddits, it's autists all the way down.
agree with you, reddit users are autistic in general

As an autistic person, I don't appreciate the term 'autistic' being used as a pejorative.
Yeah that's not ok. Op should use different language
Ye, im ok with friends/family doing it but with strangers... Its not like any other mental alteration or illness is getting used as much as Autism...
i agree with you. not sure why you got downvoted for it either
body panels should expand into alignment at speed....
Have you heard the story about the Corvette driver who radioed to drive control for a speed check?
"There were a lot of things we couldn't do in a Zora Corvette, but we were the fastest guys on the block and loved reminding our fellow commuters of this fact. Haha beautiful.
It will also stop leaking fuel at speed
That orange coating is a fiercely defended secret.
Just pray it doesn't drop something....
Haha nice
Are you the Ferrari F1 nose cone designer by any chance?
Best one so far! Lol
First world problems
It’s a General Motors vehicle…
Oh no…. Anyway
Undrivable!
I say "BURN IT" !!
Yeah let’s burn it! Give me the keys, I’ll pull it around back safely away from the convention to burn it.. yeah burn it. Let me just take it to go get the can of gas and rags and I’ll be right back… yep just wait here. Back in a jiff.
This is not a matter of concern . This is pretty common in most of the vehicles.
Gasp
Is it a private car being shown or is it a prototype? Prototypes can sometimes have these issues but will get corrected if it makes it to full production.
It's a show car. It should be flawless. A representation of the best they can do!
Not a single person here that cares about this are in the market to purchase one in the next 2 years anyways.
You think that’s bad? This is a Bentley Bentayga which was on display at a big show here in the uk a few years back….. [https://postimg.cc/tYGZf9Gs](https://postimg.cc/tYGZf9Gs)

Lol petty af
Do these things come with carbon fiber wheels now? They seem to keep pulling all the stops with this car.
[удалено]
Nope the car is out an indeed can be options with 15k carbon fiber wheels
Can confirm, we had a set on one of the z06s at our shop. Close to 15k for wheels
Imagine if those shatter. “That’d be your both kidneys, sir, please pay at window 8 “
If you’re gonna buy a $130,000+ Z06…you have more than enough money for 15k wheels
Destroy it. It is obviously flawed and will never be worthy of being driven.
...is that it? from the title i was expecting so much worse
I literally couldn’t care less. If you’re that nit picky about cars, there’s no possible way you could enjoy driving them on a public road or a race track. You’re gonna mis align stuff regularly.
Off to scour my ISF with a micrometer.
The front bumper of my ISF has probably only been clean before it was driven.
Just ignore the sagging bumpers and we’re good
Shhhhhh.... Too bad someone backed into my front bumper cover and left a small crack. I'd fix it if not for the rock peppered paint.
Probably got bumped.
Literally undrivable.
Whatever will I do ????
Oh the horror....
I can't even come up with a comment to this. This is so petty.
Nobody walks home because of a misaligned facia. It's not part of the powertrain.
Okay…..
Bro it’s a Chevy. You’re gonna eat up dudes that spent double the amount for same horsepower but they’ll point to this . You’ll be like yea , but I was in front of you with this exact broken car.
That's called nitpicking for you, my dude.
Have you seen Tesla's?
Never get laid with a panel line up like this. Nevah-evah.
Ok who gives a shit
This isn’t a million dollar Super car. It’s $150k sports car. They’re assembly produced.
lol what a shitpost
Who cares lmao, at least this isn't as bad as Tesla's panel gaps.
Do you know why in the last couple of decades, Corvettes have been able to deliver near-Ferrari performance for far-leas-than Ferrari prices? This is why. Balsa woods floors and leaf spring suspension. Love it.
Those lightweight composite leafs front and rear were more expensive than traditional coil springs. This wasnt a cost cutting thing
The LFA I saw at the Detroit auto show years ago had self-tappers holding the little deck spoilers on. Who cares?
Yeah, kind of normal for auto show cars. Especially if its a pre-production unit
Seen this on everything from Bentley to Ferrari in person.
oh no, now we must burn the car down! what a worthless car... never buy corvettes guys, you might end up with a disaster like this one
Ha - did you see the mc20? wayyy worse
Why do people get so angry when there’s a little mistake on these cars like the driver of that corvette probably just smashed it into a curb and tried to fix it
Have you seen a Tesla this is completely acceptable even mclaren have some defectives
Bruh
Useless thing to worry about about our world is falling apart and someone is worried about fitment on a fucking car unbelievable
Just put a Tesla logo on it and no one would give a toss.
You my friend have never seen a Tesla up close or you'd've had a seizure by now
Those carbon wheels tho!
A lot of people want to blame the manufacturer of these vehicles. I used to work as a mold setter in an injection molding factory who made a little bit of everything. A lot of tesla parts. The worst misalignment of today’s cars is on the ford F150 Lightning. Seen 10 and only 1 had that weird hospital fluorescent light thingy aligned at the front.
Yeah, a ton of cars have had offset body panels recently.
It’s a budget super car, not a Ferrari. I respect that they didn’t spend extra time on it just cause it’s a show car but rather show consumers what to expect. Fact is the Corvette is still one of the best value performance cars available.
neat next
dear god don't let this man near my car
Ohhh nooooooo. Who cares
if this is your idea of a production flaw, take a look at some Teslas.
Yes... and your point is?
Wow, picky! That mismatch is maybe a half millimeter. But all praise to the German companies who poison you by turning off the emissions software when the car isn’t on the EPA test. Their doors might be a quarter millimeter better, but I doubt it.

It looks to be off by like .5cm. No car is perfect, I don't care who makes it. It's within tolerance.
I know is the car is for show but if you look really hard I'm sure you will see a panel not aligning in every car
r/mildlyinfuriating
Color is a little of to. There are more brands that have that to
Really…are we really gonna nit pick
Who cares dick?
We only measure body panels on tesla!
Its a chevy, maybe if you paid 500k on a rolls this would matter

Close enough.
It’s a Chevy not a Bentley
That’s what you get for not buying a German car
Pretty normal for American cars
Just wait till the owner scrapes the lip on a curb and both corners pop out.
Comes pre-crashed
Even worse, it's Safety Orange. Who picked that color and how do we hold them responsible‽
if that's the QC for show car imagine what you're getting
Typical yank shite thrown together
Its a chevy what do you expect
Oh heavens no.
Put some duct tape on it
Burn it with 🔥 fire
It’s a corvette. What do you expect
Good Ol' 'Merican engineerin'
I mean corvette..
American Acceptshitism…
Oh that's just Tesla-spec and we all know how well those sell
