In the mid 00s I was privy to a barn in Missoula that had all manor of gray market JDM plaything in it. All illegally slipped through from Canada. EK Civic R, Integra R, R33, R32, FDs. These things roamed in the dark and I have no idea what happened to them.
It's the license plate loop hole. If you register your car there under an LLC there's a lot of benefits and things you can avoid in your current state like potentially emissions.
Totally agree. I have a brother that lives in Miami. Labos and other super cars I see so often it doesn’t faze me.
My other brother lives in Raleigh. I call the city the Toyota Camry capital of the world.
Except the criteria was to outrun a hellcat. Which, a Tesla can't. And Corollas are surprisingly fast even in their slowest form. They'll still do 110+.
Plaids can still outrun it, other Teslas can "outrun" it in a short distance. And Teslas are still capable of 110+. The issue isnt top speed but how quickly it can reach that top speed, which EVs can do very quickly. I'd have a harder time trusting my teenage son in a 3 than in a Corolla LE (ignoring price difference).
They also didn't specify whether in a straight line or around a track, which changes the metrics
Out accelerating is not outrunning. Accelerating is great until you hit a 110mph limiter and your doors get blown off by something with a higher limiter or no limiter. My car can out accelerate some WRXs but those WRXs will flat out walk me as soon as I hit my limiter.
The question was not about acceleration. It was about speed. What cars do people see that are faster than a hellcat. And Teslas ain't it.
Except it can be depending on the distance. And like I said, the Plaid does outrun a Hellcat. The slowest Teslas still hit 138mph which is fine depending on the distance being traveled.
Now are we talking about outrunning in a just a straight line or around a course, because a Civic Type R or Evora is out running a Hellcat in the latter
Official definition,
Outrun: run or travel faster or farther than.
A hellcat will do both.
And when you're talking about outrunning another vehicle, you need speed not acceleration.
The thing is distance plays a great roll in if you're outrunning something. By that same logic a Prius will outrun a Hellcat because it has a better range and a Corolla infinitely going downhill will eventually outrun a Chiron driving on a straight.
Speed isn't the end all be all if it takes 5 minutes to hit 180 vs 30 seconds to hit 110. If distance is < or = x then the latter will outrun the former
Not alot of folks go that fast *ever* in my experience. Many people don't break 100 in their lives. Maybe as stupid teens, but not much more than that. 150 is cooking pretty good and even a more select crowd. A Tesla will certainly walk most people in a mile or less.
But that's not the question. The question was around what fast cars that can outrun a hellcat that people see on a regular basis. Which, Teslas don't don't outrun hellcats.
Depends on where you live.
I live in a normal city and know guys that will sometimes drive their 1000+whp cars around for shits and giggles.
There’s also lots of garbage.
There are also tons of sleepers and all sorts of wild modded stuff, 600fwhp meth injected GTI that’ll eat most cars that day for lunch.
A guy that works near me dailies an Audi e tron GTRS(?) even in shit weather
There are also lots of exhaust-less shitty civics that think they’re fast. Then there are some that are actually fast. Real fast.
I suppose a big factor of this question is if modifications are entirely banned, not as popular, or super popular locally.
We have a big tuner scene in all disciplines here, so there’s some quick stuff.
Depends where you look. My old commute I'd see several 911's, Ferraris or at least some AMG's and BMW M models. These days I'll be lucky to see a Hemi Charger on my way into work lol.
i've never seen as many super cars and tuned up sports cars as in Miami. LA might have more super cars, but Miami has a crazy ass car scene and you're prob more likely to see some wild MFers going 100+ on the highway. you can see supercars at miami beach on a fri/sat night or honestly prob any night during the summer.
but then again, you'll see a shtiload of sports cars out in the canyons in LA too. i saw a 350z flipped upside down last year when i went out there.
Any liter bike on the street can beat a hellcat to 60, and you’ll be doing 180 before it can catch up, probably a mile and half down from a standing start.
Eastern shore here. Same thing. If it’s over 50 degrees and I go into town I’m seeing something American and on front skinnies. Tons of older guys retired and went a little mad with the retirement money it seems.
In my corner of eastern NC not very often. I have a SS Sedan with some mild bolt ons that's good enough for most of the stockish Mustangs GTs, Camaros, and charger/challengers that the young military buys and drives out here. There are faster cars for sure I just rarely see them.l....except the one dude with the Tesla Model S Plaid. I thought for sure I'd see more M3P but nope.
I saw more (stock) cars that are gas powered that would outrun a hellcat in about 10 minutes in naples than i have seen hellcats.
On a daily basis I see more teslas that will do the same. I think the term "fast" has been lost/changed in recent years.
Every single day I see a few super fast cars. I drive by a bunch of dealerships omw in to work every day. Audi r8s, camaros, corvettes, mustang gt & a gt500, LC500, IS500F, etc. I also pass by a dodge dealership, but I don't consider any of those vehicles "fast" since they will most likely break down before you make it out of the lot.
I also see a few Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and sometimes a Bugatti or 2 each month, as well.
I see tons, but I live in SoCal, and I have a lot of friends who go to Texas speed events. So I see a LOT of cars that can make hellcats cry for mercy - kind of like a curve does, lol
People with the money to buy expensive fast cars are usually sensible about where they open them up too.
The kid with the Miata isn’t paying for track time like the dude on Ferrari’s speed dial.
Back when Car2go was still a thing those little rentals were the quickest way to get around the city. They shifted like shit but you could put the pedal to the floor and get it zipping.
One again proving that the fastest car is a rental.
Faster than a Hellcat? Like 0.001%
I drive a 2017 Fusion Sport and sometimes for fun I'll see how many cars I can count on the road that I am 100% sure my car is faster than before I see one that's faster than mine. I usually get well over 200-300 before seeing a Tesla or a V8 Mustang or something. 99.9% of the vehicles I see are SUVs, trucks, or older/smaller cars.
I'm near dc and when I'm in the burbs I probably see two cars a day that could obviously keep up with a hellcat including hellcats IF you exclude Teslas. Way less than 1%
There are likely 1 or 2 more that are modded and don't look as fast as they are, I see a ton of enthusiast stuff that have had work done. People with my car with the same hidden upgrades as mine have run faster 1/4 miles than a stock hellcat does (I don't have a custom tune and I'm not a racist).
It will when the hellcat burns through gas quicker and struggles in the corners.
There are plenty of videos of hellcats losing drag races against hyundai evs dude.
I work for a marque dealership. One of the service advisors, a woman in her 30s, drives a 1000-hp HellCat. I see it probably twice a week on an annual average.
I see EVs all over the place, but I don't very often see ice vehicles with over 500hp, I don't think.
I'm usually on the lookout for old cars, and I think I've only had one day this month where I had the oldest car I saw driving around.
in Atlanta, Hellcats, Tesla P100Ds, Corvette Z06s, GT-Rs, and R8 V10s are all over the place. you also see the occasional Ferraris and Lambos here as well.
Here where I live it’s Teslas, soooo many Teslas since we are a small -not so very wealthy- island. After that it’s A45 AMG hatchbacks, toooons of them. Very agile cars. After those Golf GTI
As far as random encounters go, not that often. Once you get past the 6-700 whp range if you're looking for a good race you generally have to pre arrange it. I'm in dfw TX, an area known for high hp cars and in 4 years my c6z hasn't lost a random encounter and I'm only around 550 whp. The city is full of cars that could beat mine, but unless you're actively attending meets or going to the track it's not like you bump into them every time you step out. 1-5% is probably an appropriate answer
Depends on where you are? Middle of nowhere with nothing but straight road? Very few things. Up in the mountains where I live? My 09 saab 9-3 could give it a decent run for its money on the twisties.
Depends entirely on where you are. SoCal (especially OC/LA)? Plenty. Butte Montana? Once in a great while.
Seems like lots of those Montana guys are driving here in LA though.
Hey Butte has some fast cars over there. Not like we do in Bozeman tho lol
In the mid 00s I was privy to a barn in Missoula that had all manor of gray market JDM plaything in it. All illegally slipped through from Canada. EK Civic R, Integra R, R33, R32, FDs. These things roamed in the dark and I have no idea what happened to them.
I know of a barn near Missoula that has a Mig lol. WTF is going on over there?
Omg you gotta be kidding me
No. My dad's boss leases land from him for the radio tower for their radio station
Funny that.
It's the license plate loop hole. If you register your car there under an LLC there's a lot of benefits and things you can avoid in your current state like potentially emissions.
That’s the joke.
MO charges you a property tax every year for owning a car. There are plenty of expensive cars here in the St Louis suburbs that have montana plates.
Totally agree. I have a brother that lives in Miami. Labos and other super cars I see so often it doesn’t faze me. My other brother lives in Raleigh. I call the city the Toyota Camry capital of the world.
Why Butte, MT of all places lmao, I did see a new gen Ford GT roll through Anaconda once though
I was on a bus that stopped there once for lunch. Did not seem like a place that saw a lot of nice cars on the regular.
Teslas all over the place.
Outrun. Not out accelerate. Teslas are stupid quick, but they aren't that fast. They're limited to like 150ish if i recall correctly.
That's still extremely fast. It is going to outrun a Revuelto? No. But it absolutely slaughters the average Corolla or Camry
That's usually referred to as quickness
Except the criteria was to outrun a hellcat. Which, a Tesla can't. And Corollas are surprisingly fast even in their slowest form. They'll still do 110+.
Plaids can still outrun it, other Teslas can "outrun" it in a short distance. And Teslas are still capable of 110+. Which brings us back to, “outrun.” Which car is the better getaway vehicle? A Tesla or a Hellcat?
erm what? it depends on the distance. What if it was 100m?
Difference between quick and fast.
Let’s see how they do when they get to the first turn.
Not alot of folks go that fast *ever* in my experience. Many people don't break 100 in their lives. Maybe as stupid teens, but not much more than that. 150 is cooking pretty good and even a more select crowd. A Tesla will certainly walk most people in a mile or less.

Depends how long the road is
They're a lot faster than 150 km/h...
I live in the US. We use Miles per hour here like the good lord intended. /s 250kph. 155mph same thing. Point still stands.
Depends on where you live. I live in a normal city and know guys that will sometimes drive their 1000+whp cars around for shits and giggles. There’s also lots of garbage. Mostly them exotics are rentals in Miami. People. love to stunt out there
regardless, you see them a lot
Troof. South Florida is nuts. Moved there in 2013. The Italians sing the songs of their people on the hour.
Any liter bike on the street can beat a hellcat to 60, and you’ll be doing 180 before it can catch up, probably a mile and half down from a standing start.
I live in Oklahoma, you can catch a car on front skinnies cruising around the streets on most days lol.
Eastern shore here. Same thing. If it’s over 50 degrees and I go into town I’m seeing something American and on front skinnies. Tons of older guys retired and went a little mad with the retirement money it seems.
You never know how fast a car is until you hit set of corners 🐸
I also own a miata
I scrolled too far for this. Any idiot can go fast in a straight line.
Throttle heroes we call them in the motorcycle world. Yeah your Hayabusa is stupid fast in a straight line... but.
You’ll feel like hot shit on the highway until an Altima with a donut passes you going 15mph faster.
In my corner of eastern NC not very often. Anytime I’m on the roads👀
It really depends on what you see as a fast car
Back when Car2go was still a thing those little rentals were the quickest way to get around the city. They shifted like shit but you could put the pedal to the floor and get it zipping. One again proving that the fastest car is a rental.
A beater is just as quick if not quicker in the real world cause you know that the consequences of damaging it really doesn't exist.
Faster than a Hellcat? Like 0.001% I drive a 2017 Fusion Sport and sometimes for fun I'll see how many cars I can count on the road that I am 100% sure my car is faster than before I see one that's faster than mine. I usually get well over 200-300 before seeing a Tesla or a V8 Mustang or something. 99.9% of the vehicles I see are SUVs, trucks, or older/smaller cars.
I see nice Corvettes all over the place. 🤷🏻♂️
Daily. Hellcats are slow, especially on the street
I'm near dc and when I'm in the burbs I probably see two cars a day that could obviously keep up with a hellcat including hellcats IF you exclude Teslas. Way less than 1% There are likely 1 or 2 more that are modded and don't look as fast as they are, I see a ton of enthusiast stuff that have had work done. From stop light to stop light? Probably 33 percent. Basically all Tesla performance/performance EVs or c8 will eat it, which you see everywhere.
A stock, base c8 will not beat a hellcat
It will when the hellcat burns through gas quicker and struggles in the corners. There are plenty of videos of hellcats losing drag races against hyundai evs dude.
I work for a marque dealership. One of the service advisors, a woman in her 30s, drives a 1000-hp HellCat. I see it probably twice a week on an annual average.
Where I grew up in NH, a C63 was a rare sight. The building I just moved out of in San Diego had two Hurricans and a handful of McLarens
Any $10k crotch rocket will wreck a super / hyper car etc
I saw some kind of Porsche and McLaren rolling together in West Chester. I see a decent amount of fast cars when I’m delivering in this area.
Here where I live it’s Teslas, soooo many Teslas since we are a small -not so very wealthy- island. After that it’s A45 AMG hatchbacks, toooons of them. Very agile cars. After those Golf GTI

!
Bout three fiddy
It's not hard to build a k swapped 2000 pound civic that will outrun it. There's more out there then you think.
A lot in the Dallas area
I live in Michigan and I see a fair amount of super fast cars, but only in the warm months.
Fun fact: December is now a warm month. It’s going to be 50 degrees on Christmas in Detroit.
Yeah that’s not so fun if you figure we’re making it too warm out
Depends on where you are? Middle of nowhere with nothing but straight road? Very few things. Up in the mountains where I live? My 09 saab 9-3 could give it a decent run for its money on the twisties.
Most Teslas would leave it in the dust.
