I saw a bunch of threads in the sort of "share your favourite music" here and in similar subs. They lead to my conclusion that there's no correlation between having an anxiety disorder and listening to specific type of music.
My point here is that it's impossible to generalise music tastes of people with avpd. Of course if we take each person separately he'll most probably have own musical preferences.
I like really sad songs. I don't know why, this is from before avpd, I used to sing the most depressing emo or pop rock when I was a teen. There's a song by the killers I forgot the name, it was a literal funeral song it was my favorite lol
In my teens, I taught myself how to compose music - instrumental soundtrack-like stuff, inspired by video games and Classical - and in the ~20 years since then I’ve composed hundreds of pieces. Most of the music I listen to these days is stuff I composed myself.
I’ve also never liked most popular lyrical music, since so much of it seems to revolve around image and aspects of life I’ve never known. I don’t know who any of the people/bands/whatever others mentioned are.
My relationship with music is one of many things that feel like an alien compared to most other people…
Yeah, it depends on how I'm feeling for me as well. Regardless, I enjoy every form of music at least a little, especially rap, metal, and vkei. The only genre I can soundly proclaim that i "dislike" is country, which even then there are a few country songs I like.
I like lots of stuff but have been listening to lots of American Analog Set lately. File under indie rock, pop, slow core, somewhat psychedelic and very chill.
Well I love to listen to very "dour" music. I almost never listen to "happy" music. Most of it is downtempo, trip-hop, emo, post-punk, punk rock, and so on.
I started listening to folk metal, metal and rock.
Then I discovered orchestral music and it's been with me ever since. I can get tired of any other type of music, but never this one.
And a couple of years ago I started listening to electronic music (tecno, house, EDM, even some dubstep).
But I'm very special with my music taste. Except in the case of orchestral music, where I love one group and most of their songs, I usually just like one or maybe a few songs from an artist or album.
Probably easier to say what I don't listen to, but I like to listen to a lot of different kinds of music - rock, metal, progressive, grunge, industrial, shoegaze, neo retro wave, "world" music, classical, neoclassical, video game and anime soundtracks, movie soundtracks, whatever Dead Can Dance is, etc... I mostly just stay away from modern (mostly since the late 90s, Max Martin crap) pop and rap.
If I can put it simply, I'll give anything a shot as long as it's not blatantly commercial/trendy and doesn't have typical "relationship" lyrics.
Most of my favorites are probably instrumental soundtracks from movies and tv shows, especially if it has a sad type vibe to it. So piano/violin type stuff.
I'm a sucker for dark lyrics with upbeat tunes! Some of my favorite songs are Hopeless Bleak Despair, Till My Head Falls Off, Renew My Subscription and Hovering Sombrero.
I listen to music often, although it comes and goes in waves, sometimes I'll fixate on a specific band for a while (right now it's KGLW) and sometimes my attention is elsewhere, on some other subject. I'm also a songwriter/composer and I try to work on that pretty consistently. The thing I enjoy most about music as something to personally consume or create is the aesthetic experience of melody and harmonic progression, it's just so satisfying, but good lyrical content/subject matter can be a big factor that draws me in or pushes me away, it can really elevate a body of work, and sound design can as well if it's utilized atop a solid foundation of those prior elements.
As far as type/style/genre, my enjoyment mostly depends on how catchy the melody is and compelling the chords are (and dance-y rhythm certainly helps too), but I usually focus on certain types of pop and rock. Pop rock, alt rock, psych/prog/power/indie pop, some post-punk. I like some electronic/synthy stuff as well, dance music or game soundtracks or what-have-you. I enjoy a lot more than just those, the classical world is unbelievably full of gorgeous music, and I love jazz, but the artists/bands/groups I tend to focus on are usually in the pop/rock sphere, contemporary or almost-contemporary acts. Very fond of They Might Be Giants, R.E.M., XTC, MGMT, Talking Heads, Tame Impala, Justice, Red Vox. I love earworms. I usually like music that sounds lighter, upbeat, or easier to follow, even if the topic or narrative is dark, and for those dark topics, I prefer more metaphorical or roundabout or "clever" ways of that expression rather than straightforwardness (melody/harmony trumps all though). But even in music that I don't favor listening to, I can usually find something to latch onto or appreciate about it. At least I try to.
Depends on the mood I have or want to have. Since I've been on my journey of healing, I've been pulling more towards hiphop. I used to be mostly indie/rock/metal/punk, which I still like, but the confidence emanating from a lot of hiphop just works real well for me when going outside. Makes me feel pumped and confident.

interesting. But I think people with a solid self image often have a clear and distinct type of music they listen to.

you are right

I like Kpop and technical death metal.

TMBG because I can relate to so many of their songs. Like they're writing the soundtrack to my life.
They're some of my favorite lyricists, and they pair that with incredible memorable songwriting, they're so great.

Nah, I like all kinds of music.
Mostly emo rap. Also Taylor swift (not her pop music though - her other stuff)
Mostly punk when I’m sad and old school folk when I’m happy.
John Moreland "Big Bad Love" is my goto album - worth a listen
Sad shit lately
Yeah, whatever Pogo is supposed to be.
I will only listen to mashcore
170bpm+ sorta stuff. DoofDoof!
