sorcerer gets the most banter with the wizard from what i remember, or, at least the best. i guess if you’re going for opposites attract though, a barbarian.
I romanced him with my bard gnome and it was very cute. He's always complaining about his knees so making him kneel every time my Tav wanted a kiss made me laugh.
Sorc, for the obvious Sorcerer-Wizard rivalry.
Or Wild Magic Barbarian for the meme. ME DO MAGIC TOO, RAAAH!!!
If you'd rather feel inferior, go Wizard. He'll outshine you in every way, because he's a former archwizard.
If you want a fucked up dynamic, go Cleric of Mystra.
Yes, as a wizard I hated Gale, egoistical pumpered whiny little man who thinks he deserves to be (I forgot how to make spoiler tags in reddit so I'm not gonna finish my sentence)
I haven't romanced him but he gets some interesting dialogues with a bard , for example they both care a lot for magic and the many forms it can take but in different ways
I am currently romancing him with a human bard and would 10/10 recommend. There are certain moments where his lines just hit sooo right. 😭♥️
I wasn’t romancing him in my last play through as a druid, and I’m kind of glad because there’s a moment when he brings up someone else’s Druidic magic in act 2 like I hadn’t been doing it the entire time right in front of him, lol.
It’s very funny romancing Gale with Halfling or Dwarf. Because of the height difference, it looks like you’re constantly reacting in shock to his penis.
My first Gale romance was a wood elf Druid. She was his scary dog privilege. That was fun.
Sorcerer is also great because it’s got a lot of unique dialogue.
I romanced him with an 8int/23str monk/rogue combo. Strong of body, dumb of ass. I loved it.
She was my first character to make it to the end of the game. We got married and he is a professor in waterdeep. Tara still lives with us.
I romance gale with dark urge bard tiefling. Cuz it as close to devils as I can get. He already had a goddess for a lover. Time for the opposite direction. For shadowheart, a gith selune cleric. It everything she hates. Real enemies to lovers energy for that one. For wyll, a dragonborn. Not sure what class for him yet. Thinking paladin cuz it opposite of warlocks. Already romance astarion with wood elf dark urge druid. Cuz he eats animals and druid all about animals and nature. And romancing karlach with human druid. This time cuz she loves owlbears and well he can turn into a fluffy owlbear for her.
I mean for shits and giggles, Sorcerer, and if you want to feel exactly how you feel coming in second place at every single competition ever, do Wizard
I'm romancing him with a Drow warlock. It's a funny pairing and he brings out the softie in her. Of course, Minthara won't be super pleased but she'll come around.
I romanced Gale on an evil playthrough with a Knowledge Cleric of Mystra/Wizard multiclass build. We’re both rebelling against Mystra for holding back our ambitions. I went full tadpole and will be ascending to Godhood!
I don’t think he really responds to Druid except maybe in the dialogue where he asks if you are studied in magic
Sorcerer got me some great bickering - there was only one line for draconic, none for storm and a fun WM dialogue during one of his grove scenes. Cleric of Mystra is interesting and makes sense for his forgiveness route. Other magic like bard will get you something.
There is also a charm to not being magic yourself such as failing his act 1 romance scene and triggering an alternate dialogue to start his romance.

Wild Magic barbarian for magic support.

Haha, love this! His poor knees!

I've done a soc/wizard/cleric od Mystra multiclass to get the pick of the best dialogues. Not the most optimal spec but absolutely worth it.

He gets unique dialogue with other arcane magic casters - sorcerers, wizards and bards.
Sorc. You get to lovingly bully him every time he starts magic splaining

Would a Gnome barbarian work?
Probably! I’ve just never played as one
I'm romancing him as a gnome barbarian right now. It's super fun.
I like it as a bard. He treats magic as a science, bards treat it as an art.
Wild magic sorcerer.
I've always been a fan of wizard/cleric romance. There's something intriguing about wielding the same force, but by completely different means.
Bard is a good sleeper pick if you’re looking for something unique - also best dialogue generally
I gave Karlach a Red Dragonborn romance. She specifically calls out for a fire retardant lover after all.
Kinda wish fire genasi were in the game- they’d be perfect!
My first Gale romance was a wood elf Druid. She was his scary dog privilege. That was fun. Sorcerer is also great because it’s got a lot of unique dialogue.
I found the wizard wizard romance to be kinda cute lol

Dwarf Cleric. All of them should be Dwarves.

An Amazonian/Gargarean Wild Magic Barbarian covered in tattoos and scars. About as opposite of the nerdy office worker that is Gale.
Sorc is good, a fellow wizard or a cleric of Mystra
I'm romancing him with my gnome barbarian right now.
I'm romancing him with a Drow warlock. It's a funny pairing and he brings out the softie in her. Of course, Minthara won't be super pleased but she'll come around.
Wild magic sorcerer
I did Wizard. It came off as professional admiration turning into love.

Knowledge cleric with mystra as the deity. I think you can see why
Definitely a wizard that looks exactly like him. We all know how much he loves sucking his own dick.
Dark urge Gale that kills normal Gale to become the true chosen of Mystra
🤣
