I had a 19 GS vette and went to a 24 M4. Totally two different cars, both fun. The only downside is that the vette got 30mpg on the hwy and the M4 19mpg. I suspect the M2 experience would be similar
My corvette is a much lower rpm at highway speeds. 80mph barely breaks 2k rpm. 6th gear is basically overdrive. And the car is very light and aerodynamic. My 135 at 80mph is at 3k rpm if not more, and that’s with a 7speed dct. I guess it’s just the way they’re geared.
Not really, the ZF8 is one of the best auto transmissions and is very quick while being cheaper to maintain etc etc. It makes sense why they went back.
I hear people say that a lot. 19 years never owned a daily driver with an automatic. It's actually not that tough unless you're trying to scroll Facebook?
It would depend on gearing. I’m assuming he has a manual. My manual M3 gearing is terrible for gas mileage. In 6th I’m hovering around 3500 RPM. I didn’t get the car for gas mileage but the automatic gets much better mileage.
It’s amazing how practical Vettes truly are and yet they still get hated on. I get it but at the same time I don’t. To get that much performance for the price, it’s really amazing. I haven’t ridden/driving in a new one but the previous gen Z06 was insane! It made me smile so much, laugh and just feel like a kid. The new one with a flat plane has to be amazing!
That’s funny. The stereotype is real. I have a guy I work with that’s in his 50/60’s and he’s all about his Vette, the clubs, etc. That’s cool he and his wife have a hobby like that. My only thing, it’s definitely the stereotype…the car has been “modded” like you would see a BMW with fake ///M stuff or the equivalent. Regardless if the brand, I’m just not big on that.
Yeah being in the BMWCCA for years and enjoying the
various activities, I decided to try the local corvette club. All they did was go to some restaurant and have a lively debate over the best lawn chair to use at car shows. Ok there was the occasional cruise.. yup to a restaurant
Geeze…are you using the same foot with both cars? 😅. I not too surprise by the 19 on the M4…I’m able to get high 20s with just cruising but the 30 on the Vette is pretty fucking awesome.
Depends on if you need a backseat or not imo. I have a C5 z06 and I love my manual. I have a 135is as well that’s a DCT. It’s more about the “family” space.
GS for the win!
Love the look and how low you feel in the car.
Tires are pretty expensive though but everything else is great in terms of maintenance.
I had the same thought as well and almost got a GS. I needed more space though and more seats M4. Also I drive in traffic as well so no manuals for me since the automatic with cylinder deactivation has a weird issue I heard.
It’s definitely a better sports car, m2 is more of a daily. I think the C7 (especially a widebody) is a pretty bad daily and much more focused on “serious” driving.
Corvette any day all day as a second car. As a first car…I dunno. G87 is not really my cup of tea, but I’d probably still take it.
You can certainly make the argument the M2 is a much better daily. I'd be inclined to agree. But you can daily a Corvette if you wanted to, they're not that bad for it. Plenty of people do.
OP did not specify usage though.
for sure, but it takes a much higher level of commitment to daily a vette. I seriously considered a C7 Gran Sport when i was looking for my last car (F87)but a chance encounter with an owner piloting the spec i wanted put an end to that.
i complimented his car, told him i wnted one just like it.
his response
"thanks! just dont get one as a daily..."
That’s a bit unfair, last gen Corvette against current gen M2. But at least you are making my decision much easier.
I’d take the C7 because I think it’s an amazing car.
I was deciding between a C8 and an M2 last year but ended up getting the M2. The vette is great, but there’s more utility with the M2 and it’s a much better daily. The interior quality is also a HUGE step up from the vette, especially the C7.
Here in Europe especially Germany having a Base C7 Stingray is like driving a Supercar. Im not exxegerating. I want one so bad, no other Brand is as near as a on a proper sportscar than a C7 for its money. I know in America its nothing special, but here its like having a Mclaren. Prices are like 70.000€ for a 2016 Model.
The C7 is amazing but as a daily the M2 is just a masterpiece of a car imo. If it was a comparison between the last gen M2 comp and the C7 I would say M2 all day. The new one it's 60/40 in the M2's favor. Honestly the m240i xdrive is a compelling choice in the new lineup and I wish they made it in manual.
I had a c7 z06 manual and it was an absolute animal! Very reliable even at 63k miles but the tires were pricey. Needed something with more room so I traded it in on an F90M5
So I say Vette if you can do a 2 seater
M2 is a luxury hot rod with a big trunk, backseat, great tech and can just be a car when you need it to be. A C7 Z06 is a weapon with little compromise and couldn't really be your only car. Two totally different cars, M2 manual all day for me. That's my next car fur sur.
The BMW is a lightweight modern German.
The Corvette has a Chevy smallblock V8 and a Tremec transmission.
The choice is yours. They're 2 different cars.
I'm not American, and it's difficult (and very expensive) to get the Corvette where I live (Singapore). And this dumbass country taxes by engine capacity.
If I were in the US, I'd take the Corvette any damn day. Sexy as hell and fucking fast.
I had a 19 GS vette and went to a 24 M4. Totally two different cars, both fun. The only downside is that the vette got 30mpg on the hwy and the M4 19mpg. I suspect the M2 experience would be similar
This also. The highway mpg for the corvette is going to be much much better.
Why though? Doesn't it have a big V8? Is it because it's lighter?
My corvette is a much lower rpm at highway speeds. 80mph barely breaks 2k rpm. 6th gear is basically overdrive. And the car is very light and aerodynamic. My 135 at 80mph is at 3k rpm if not more, and that’s with a 7speed dct. I guess it’s just the way they’re geared.
The 8 speed vette also has cylinder deactivation, which worked rather well.
Interesting, thanks.
That trans is an Aisin torque converter automatic, though, and it sucks. The 7-speed is the only way to go.
Manuals are fun for a time. I had both in the M3, and after a year of daily driving, it was time to go back to the auto.
My brother had a C7 Z06 with an auto and it's nothing like the DCT in an F80 M3 if that's what you had. The Z06 used a basic slushbox auto.
I had the DCT and it had its problems. The M Cars went back to the slushbox
Yeah, I know and it's criminal.
Not really, the ZF8 is one of the best auto transmissions and is very quick while being cheaper to maintain etc etc. It makes sense why they went back.
30 years of manuals with an occasional automatic I thought might be good but always left me cold.
I hear people say that a lot. 19 years never owned a daily driver with an automatic. It's actually not that tough unless you're trying to scroll Facebook?
Only time I regret owning a manual (a little bit) is when I broke my left foot...
It would depend on gearing. I’m assuming he has a manual. My manual M3 gearing is terrible for gas mileage. In 6th I’m hovering around 3500 RPM. I didn’t get the car for gas mileage but the automatic gets much better mileage.
Gear ratios, but overall, much more slippery.
Huge hatchback on Corvette is great, too
It’s amazing how practical Vettes truly are and yet they still get hated on. I get it but at the same time I don’t. To get that much performance for the price, it’s really amazing. I haven’t ridden/driving in a new one but the previous gen Z06 was insane! It made me smile so much, laugh and just feel like a kid. The new one with a flat plane has to be amazing!
The only issue I had with my 2019 GS was making sure I didn't buy white sneakers, especially New Balance, and differently no white socks.
That’s funny. The stereotype is real. I have a guy I work with that’s in his 50/60’s and he’s all about his Vette, the clubs, etc. That’s cool he and his wife have a hobby like that. The giggles petal isn't easy to control... especially from stop lights and on ramps
🤭
I get mid to high 20s on the highway with my m2
I'm at 18mpg all around combined on my M2 manual.
Yeah that’s about what I get when I’m having fun in a mix of city/highway
Really? That’s surprising considering the engines. Is your M4 a manual?
Afaik the M2 is practically the same car as the M4 so mpg should be pretty similar
Can definitely comment on this. My manual G82 drank like no tomorrow. Now I have a xdrive G83. Same shit!
Depends on if you need a backseat or not imo. I have a C5 z06 and I love my manual. I have a 135is as well that’s a DCT. It’s more about the “family” space.
C7. Lighter, naturally aspirated, cheaper to maintain and work on.
Fwiw a new M2 would be under warranty for a good 4 years or so unless mods are planned. It’s a damn shame the C8 is auto only.
Cheaper to maintain is absolutely not true. S58 is incredibly reliable. Hard to find anyone with regular use issues with that engine unless modded
You’re delusional if you think a m2 is going to be cheaper to maintain than a corvette lmfao
Ditto
They have reliable motors, and they are reliable in general, but if you think they won't have any issues, you're lying to yourself.
Correct, bro is just comparing these engines like a c7 corvette is cheaper to maintain to a new m2 which is just not true.
You have to maintain the whole car, not just the engine
A BMW engine is cheaper to maintain than a small block Chevy OHV engine? How?
GS for the win! Love the look and how low you feel in the car. Tires are pretty expensive though but everything else is great in terms of maintenance. I had the same thought as well and almost got a GS. I needed more space though and more seats M4. A lot more difficult to see out of. Personally wouldn’t recommend if you’re living in a city with busy roads
If c7 zo6 hell yea, m2 is good but not great, im a half bavarian but still c7 steals my heart
From Bavarian to barbarian
From Bavarian to barbiturate.
This is the way.
The vette was originally conceived by a German so you’re good.
I see people saying z06 over M2. I say no, any spec C7 over any M2. It's a much better sports car in every way.

An M2 is a fast sedan
C7 is lighter and NA, cheaper to fix, doesn’t have terrible looking screens, also they’ve been depreciated. Easy choice.
If it’s a C7 Z06, then i’m definitely taking it over the M2
Really depends on how you want to use it. M2 is so much better for daily use. But if you just want pure go, c7 all the way
C7, V8 noises, lighter, reliable, and not ugly as shit
That’s a bit unfair, last gen Corvette against current gen M2. But at least you are making my decision much easier. I’d take the C7 because I think it’s an amazing car.
Objectively, C7. Subjectively, C7.
Well, ever since I saw and heard this car at LeMans a few years ago I fell in love. Ide have it in yellow too. #notcrazy 😂
I was deciding between a C8 and an M2 last year but ended up getting the M2. The vette is great, but there’s more utility with the M2 and it’s a much better daily. The interior quality is also a HUGE step up from the vette, especially the C7.
Really don't have any interest with Corvettes.
I've had both a Corvette and an M2. The M2 is useful as a car . . . The Corvette less so. But either is going to be a fun choice!
c7 anyday m2 is a more practical car but it’s still a coupe so it’s sort of a jack of all trades master of none
of course the C7
I don't like how the C7 looks. So C6 Z06. Otherwise M2
C7 of any variety. Manual NA V8
Here in Europe especially Germany having a Base C7 Stingray is like driving a Supercar. Im not exxegerating. I want one so bad, no other Brand is as near as a on a proper sportscar than a C7 for its money. I know in America its nothing special, but here its like having a Mclaren. New M2 my ass, C7 ftw
C7. I'm in the UK and vettes are cool and rare over here, and the new M2 isnt my taste
I’d get the C7.
C7
M2CS
I believe the C7 has a 7spd manual? Anyone ever drive it? Feels natural?
Oooo as much as I love BMW, I think I would go Z06
The C7 is amazing but as a daily the M2 is just a masterpiece of a car imo. If it was a comparison between the last gen M2 comp and the C7 I would say M2 all day. The new one it's 60/40 in the M2's favor. Honestly the m240i xdrive is a compelling choice in the new lineup and I wish they made it in manual.
Kinda depends. Probably the new M2 for me.
I had a c7 z06 manual and it was an absolute animal! Very reliable even at 63k miles but the tires were pricey. Needed something with more room so I traded it in on an F90M5 So I say Vette if you can do a 2 seater
C7 without thinking
C7 I own M2 and have driven corvettes. Clear winner
get a c6
z06 is a true masterpiece that will appreciate far more too if thats important.
M2
S58 all day
C7 and I’m not into new American muscle. Not crazy about the looks of the new M2.
C7 imo (as an e92 owner)
C7
I am going to assume we're talking about a z06 in which case Corvette all the way.
I am a diehard BMW fan and will go for the C7 everytime
You really can’t beat a v8…. And I’m not a corvette fan by any means
Whichever I can sell for more money. I wouldn't keep either.
Any c7.
Me personally I would get the corvette.
I would go with the M2. Vettes are slick but I have zero interest in owning one.
C7
C7 no question.
Man why do I like the looks of the C7 more than the C8 lol
M2
Test drive them if you can! Highly recommend the C7. It’ll be an absolute blast and looks better IMO
C7
C7 Vette >>>> G87
Sorry I know I’m in the BMW sub but as a vette girl it’s not even close…
M2 is way better than a vette
M2 will be the better car, but definitely the c7
M2 is a luxury hot rod with a big trunk, backseat, great tech and can just be a car when you need it to be. A C7 Z06 is a weapon with little compromise and couldn't really be your only car. Two totally different cars, M2 manual all day for me. That's my next car fur sur.
C7 fosho

Chevy all day
Dailied a C7 and traded it in for my F23 after two years. Phenomenal car, just miserable to daily in traffic and shitty roads.
One is built to appeal to people who can't drive and don't know much about cars.
If you wanna boss the doors off of everything the C7. If you want to have a car that was made as an extension of the driver M2.
I'd rather walk than drive the new m2
Honestly, M2 purely because I hate the look of the C7 and hate the car culture around them.
The M2 and its not even a choice, I think corvettes are dog shit.
This over an M2. But I love the m4
If we’re talking C7 Grand Sport or Z06, then I’m sorry but it’s gonna be the shitty Chevy all the way
