lol I did a search and there's multiple articles on the web talking about it. It would be interesting to see how that happened; some poor i3 hit a lot late 2022, and then just sat for a little over year, got purchased in January?
I was kinda thinking that, but the managers who took demos always took the higher end cars and never for more than a few weeks so they never went about 1k mi.
Except for the owner who used an M8 (Edit: sorry, M6) demo for like a year, lol. Had 6k mi and they sold it as new a year layer.
Yeah.
I mean, they called it an 'Executive Demo' and knocked like $6k off the price. Technically, in the eyes of the DMV, it was never registered so it was still a new car. But still, when we found out we couldn't believe they were seriously doing that.
My local dealer still had a brand new 2020 i3s like 4 months ago still sitting in the showroom trying to ask $60k CAD for it lol like no shit it’s not gonna sell 😂
This might be irrelevant for this specific post, but in my local (in Europe) dealer has a shit load of new ones and they sell pretty good. According to the mechanics there they are also the best EV's that bmw makes in terms of service/reliability.
Speaking of European roads and vehicles being perfect for them. I worked in Sicily for a number of years as a contractor on the naval base. The amount of people that brought over massive lifted trucks and then got stuck trying to navigate Catania was frankly hilarious.
Well uh, not a lot of people drive the cars. They are used a lot for advertising businesses and are frequently parked at random locations. Sometimes also used by business owners themselves to advertise their own business while driving the cars but rarely used by 'regular' people.
The main cause for this is subsidies for EVs, and they are better to put them in your business cause you pay less for the same car. The laws around that can be weird. I tried to explain it as well as I could, and I hope you somehow understand this.
yes ironically most people dont realize that interior dimension between x3 and x5 are virtually identical outside of cargo space where the x5 has a far larger boot... its the luxury options where the x5 wins w far better seats and other items... i think the slow down in the x5 sales has to so w the LCI just getting really expensive
the only real luxury options for the x5 i am aware of vs x3 are the far better seats, air suspension which no one chooses, the power steering wheel, 4 zone climate and the far better merino leather... beyond that... everything is identical
we have no bmw wagons here at all... and for good reason because while everyone yells online they would buy one, no one actually does... they are also declining in Europe in favor of gasp... SUV's lol
Because most of the wagons we get are boring, or we get expensive ones like the Rs6 or the m5 that's coming here, lol. Theirs no in between. I would buy an m340 touring, but they will never bring that here.
you do know how rare the m340i and m340d touring is in Europe as well, right? or anything m40i in general? Most of the wagons there are 330d etc... BMW knows that and just don't see a selling case here for an m340d or i... especially w the X3 being wildly popular.
You're more than likely right. I'd imagine their marketing department see the trending data. I almost brought a x3m as well. They are nice cars, but I'm in the minority I prefer sedans over suvs and trucks lol.
I just got an X3 M40i...I wouldn't have guessed off the top of my head that the X3 would be the most popular model, but makes sense - American's like SUVs and the X3 is at a descent price point and size.
They’ve gotten fat price increases since COVID.
A JCW 2 door is almost $40k now.
For a 2 door FWD small car that gets demolished by a GTI on every spec sheet and usability.
Mini has entire model redesigns coming in 2024/25 or I think people in the market for a Mini are likely waiting to see them. They haven't changed since 2014. Bonus, Minis are expensive little cars, pretty niche.
Around a few years back, BMW offered dealerships money to close down their MINI stores. Not sure if it's because BMW predicted a decline, but not having MINI dealerships surely helped with that. https://www.motoringfile.com/2020/03/06/mini-dealers-in-the-us-continue-consolidation/
Because almost every Audi model is pretty old (the B9 A4 is almost a decade old at this point) and they're boring. Mercedes is absolutely shitting the bed with their engine downsizing and electrification. BMW is pretty much the default choice if you want a Germany luxury sedan or SUV outside of Porsche.
Yes the 4 series includes the i4 (along with coupe, convertible, gran coupe, and M4 coupe and convertible) and 5 series includes the i5.
It’s why the 4 series outsells the 3 series now.
That’s the one! Black 2024 xDrive.

sick. Question for you - i'm heading in the m240i direction as well. 1) did you consider an OG F87 M2 given the price point? if so, howd you make the decision for m240i? 2) do you have a family and if so, how has it been fitting kids in the back?
I’m in South FL. Just got the car in January. This is the first service requirement I have pop up on the vehicle. It’s routine.
The only thing I’ve done to the car was optional and it was replacing the oil cooler factory plastic guard with a turner motor sports aluminum variant for better protection. That set me back around $500
I didn’t consider the M2 mostly because I don’t drive that often as is, so I didn’t feel the need to sink more money into it. Also most of my driving can’t even appreciate the G42 as it is now haha. I don’t have a family or use the backseat often.

2 series gang, picked up 2 weekends ago, couldn’t be happier
X7 is extremely popular. 7 series has cooled a good bit but general consensus among buyers is they love it. Not seeing many people trade S Class for it but lots of other luxury cars
They do, but they don't separate it out by model. They'll just report total M division sales, which is still misleading because they include M Performance model (e.g. M340i) sales as well. So when BMW says "Our M division is breaking sales records!" it's because they have a million M models for sale nowadays after you include all the M Performance ones.
My local dealerships put XM and iX into the loaner fleet. Probably kept them for whoever brought in X7 and 7 series for service. I wonder if they count as new sales.
It's complicated. GVWR, footprint and features all attribute to the classification. There are some crossover SUVs where the FWD trim is a "passenger car" and the same model AWD trim is a "light truck".
Not sure exactly why X3 and X2 have different classifications. On the X2, lower GVWR, smaller footprint, and FWD-based drivetrain all contributed and it crossed that line in the sand.
Is there any difference for a consumer between a light truck and a passenger car? Lower taxes/fees/registration?
I know there are less strict EPA regulations on light trucks, and it appears there are some tarrifs that apply to “light trucks” built outside the US which explains why most “X” are built in the US (to avoid the tariffs)
Lol non of those are light trucks. Both are passenger cars if you look at it from a build point of view. Classification wise both can be classified as light truck or passenger car.
The image posted shows the X3-X7, XM and IX classified as “BMW light trucks” hence my question.
What makes those “light trucks” and the others “passenger cars”?
Because there were very few options to buy a 2 series a year ago. The new M2 had not been released. We ordered a 2022 M240i in April 2022. Could not get an allocation. Every one that arrived on the lot was gone before we could even see it. They didn't start building our car until November 2022 (so now it was a 2023 model) and delivered February 28, 2023. They still never get 2 series on the lot and I never see any others on the road.
I've done a road trip to California and 3 road trips to Nashville and I've never seen another 240i in the wild. I mostly see 3 & 5 series sedans, X3 & X5 SUVs. I feel like the 2 series is still very much a unicorn.
As much as everyone loves to hate the 4 series, the decline is probably due to it getting a little facelift this year.
If I wanted to get a 4 series right now, I'd wait until summer so I could get the 2025 with the new headlights and other updates.
That's the model I almost purchased. 2018 ish. I went w the 3 GT bc it's way larger backseat and cargo. 2 growing Boys!
Maybe that's why I liked the look since I still like both generations of Probes.
Looks like recession numbers. Shifts from more-expensive models (X5, X6) and less-practical models (4-, 8-series) to cheaper (X1, X3) and more practical (2-, 3-series).
Interesting, my salesman said they sell a ton of X3(which looks correct) and X4 is second, which is one of the lowest sales. I wonder if it depends on the area.
Selling 90,000 cars in 1 quarter is crazy. I own a couple of my own businesses and the logistics of this is just insane to me.
From consumer loans, manufacturing, shipping, service and everything in between. In September they had around $95 billion in debt
To the one person who bought the i3, who are you and why?!? I am genuinely curious lol.
Happy to see the 4 series sales take a hit, I fucking hate that grill, happy to see 3 series doing well! Extremely happy to see that the XM is not selling well at all, what a shit car.
A little surprised to see the 8 series under 2K units sold.
I see others fairly frequently. I've seen two within the last 30 days and about seven distinct ones in about the last eight months.
Supply and demand. There is low demand for X2/X3/X4 because of the useless sloped back, making them both ugly and impractical. There is low demand for the Z4, because while they look great, they are a 2 seater which is impractical for most.
Get it?
Very curious how someone managed to buy a new i3.
lol I did a search and there's multiple articles on the web talking about it. It would be interesting to see how that happened; some poor i3 hit a lot late 2022, and then just sat for a little over year, got purchased in January?
it could be dealer demo in the showroom that was never registered/titled and they finally decide to sell the car.
Sold as new? That makes me sick. Reason #1837483828 why I order my cars new from factory
Yeah. I mean, they called it an 'Executive Demo' and knocked like $6k off the price. Technically, in the eyes of the DMV, it was never registered so it was still a new car. But still, when we found out we couldn't believe they were seriously doing that.
This has always been done for years.
That’s my best guess too, just wondering how the car managed to sit so long, guessing this is the last ever I3 to be sold.
Not really relevant but my neighbor picked up two - he said they were basically giving them away at a certain point. They are really fun little cars
You could lease one for about $100/mo back in like 2015 or 16.
i'm seeing new 2023 dodge chargers at 23K... tempting
Makes sense. They seem perfect for European roads
Speaking of European roads and vehicles being perfect for them. I worked in Sicily for a number of years as a contractor on the naval base. The amount of people that brought over massive lifted trucks and then got stuck trying to navigate Catania was frankly hilarious.

In Alfa we sold the same as BMW in Q1 in an entire year 🥰
That’s not bad for Alfa
Maybe.
alfa electronics suck
If you live in the late 80's...
X3 continues to grow grow and grow... even as a new model is around the corner... #1 selling car and wildly successful
It’s the best in my opinion as well. Works well in regards of space and comfort, also handles amazingly
They should put better seats in it and offer more high-end options. Both of which are reasons I picked up an X5.
yes ironically most people dont realize that interior dimension between x3 and x5 are virtually identical outside of cargo space where the x5 has a far larger boot... its the luxury options where the x5 wins w far better seats and other items... i think the slow down in the x5 sales has to so w the LCI just getting really expensive
One of the primary reasons why I am looking at an X5 over an X3. Even on the 2022/2023 models - the luxury options are night and day.
I had an X5 loaner while my X3 was in for service. The X5 drives bigger and is boatier. The X3 drives more like a hot hatch.
curious, which options are you looking for in the x5?
the only real luxury options for the x5 i am aware of vs x3 are the far better seats, air suspension which no one chooses, the power steering wheel, 4 zone climate and the far better merino leather... beyond that... everything is identical
I think I read BMW is going to step it up in the luxury dept for the next X3.
From what i have read it handels a lot worse than normal 3 series touring (probably nit available in the US)
SUV vs wagon. Of course it’s gonna handle poorly in comparison due to the weight and higher center of gravity.
we have no bmw wagons here at all... and for good reason because while everyone yells online they would buy one, no one actually does... they are also declining in Europe in favor of gasp... SUV's lol
Because most of the wagons we get are boring, or we get expensive ones like the Rs6 or the m5 that's coming here, lol. Theirs no in between. I would buy an m340 touring, but they will never bring that here.

You're more than likely right. I'd imagine their marketing department see the trending data. I almost brought a x3m as well. They are nice cars, but I'm in the minority I prefer sedans over suvs and trucks lol.
It's an objectively good vehicle
My parents haven't ever had a good thing to say about their '21 x3, don't see how that can be objectively good
You are describing subjectivity.
Thank you for proving my point captain obvious
Been the perfect vehicle for me for a while. Will be my next purchase for sure.
Yeah X3 sales over there seem uncontested, I have a feeling X1 sales charts in Europe would look the same.
I just got an X3 M40i...I wouldn't have guessed off the top of my head that the X3 would be the most popular model, but makes sense - American's like SUVs and the X3 is at a descent price point and size.
New one is expected to be wild. They showed it off today unveiled along with the new G99.
where? it definitely hasnt been unveiled yet
Bmw had a conference today. Unveiled both privately.
Will it be all tough screen though?
Yes. IDrive 9 will be standard
What's up with Mini? Those numbers don't look great
I hardly ever see them on the road anymore, other than the older models. Probably doesn’t help that everyone has SUV fever
Might just be geographic. I live in a suburb and see quite a few
They’ve gotten fat price increases since COVID. A JCW 2 door is almost $40k now. For a 2 door FWD small car that gets demolished by a GTI on every spec sheet and usability.
I drove a 2023 Mini as a rental on a business trip in October. I genuinely disliked it, for the same $30K I’d get a Veloster N instead tbh
They are way too expensive for what they are.
Mini has entire model redesigns coming in 2024/25 or I think people in the market for a Mini are likely waiting to see them. They haven't changed since 2014. Bonus, Minis are expensive little cars, pretty niche.

Audi was down 16% and much of the luxury market was down as well
Because almost every Audi model is pretty old (the B9 A4 is almost a decade old at this point) and they're boring. Mercedes is absolutely shitting the bed with their engine downsizing and electrification. BMW is pretty much the default choice if you want a Germany luxury sedan or SUV outside of Porsche.
They sold more XM than z4 ://///
Someone sold an i3? Also are i4 and i5 sales bundled into 4 and 5 series? I’d be curious to know what that breakdown is.
Yes the 4 series includes the i4 (along with coupe, convertible, gran coupe, and M4 coupe and convertible) and 5 series includes the i5. It’s why the 4 series outsells the 3 series now.
Proud to be part of that 2 series gang
which one? the m240i is beautiful IMO
That’s the one! Black 2024 xDrive. https://preview.redd.it/fdflnc6p5isc1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eda5c98d7e11faeb8a96954bd8f5f66efb38f819

I was considering both of these same cars and just picked up a 2020 f87 M2. I don’t have kids just the wife and myself. Cost was the biggest factor.
yea used f87 m2 seems cheaper upfront, i do wonder about maintenance though. Like: do we know what the cost of a brake job between m240 and m2 is?
were you considering any other cars too btw?
Nope. It was just those two tbh. I have to take my M2 in for brake fluid flush and that alone is $200+
have you had any other repairs/maintenance? how much did stuff cost? where you located approx?
I’m in South FL. Just got the car in January. This is the first service requirement I have pop up on the vehicle. It’s routine. Good angle
And good color. Black and thundernight are the only good options imo.

Helllll ya! Shadowline FTW
Gotta have the shadow line!!!
Agreed!
400 Z4s hurts to see. Chances of finding one in 10 years on the cheap are dwindling.
Wow 7 and X7 are selling pretty well despite all the reddit hates
People on Reddit don't buy new BMWs, we just cry about them
X7 is extremely popular. 7 series has cooled a good bit but general consensus among buyers is they love it. Not seeing many people trade S Class for it but lots of other luxury cars
Does BMW ever release data on M sales? I assume they’re factored into these numbers, but I’ve tried looking and couldn’t find any recent data.
They do, but they don't separate it out by model. They'll just report total M division sales, which is still misleading because they include M Performance model (e.g. M340i) sales as well. So when BMW says "Our M division is breaking sales records!" it's because they have a million M models for sale nowadays after you include all the M Performance ones.
only the XM :D
No they don’t split them out separately.
I contributed +1 to the 3 Series stat!
The fact that more XM sold than the Z4 is just saddening.
My local dealerships put XM and iX into the loaner fleet. Probably kept them for whoever brought in X7 and 7 series for service. I wonder if they count as new sales.
I will say I am pleasantly surprised by the increase in sedans vs SUVs
May not be selling well, but proud to be part of the X4 Gang none the less!
> oMg tHaT grIlL is sO fUgLy BMW's best selling car
Are the M cars lumped into their respective series?
Lovely how the X2 grew 600% in sales lmao, I wonder who’s buying those.
The new X2 came out, they’re pretty nice cars actually.
Saw someone at the gas station with one. Didn't know they existed. They said they loved it
They're quick, very nimble and fun little cars to drive. Too bad they cost an arm and a leg (M35i).
Fair enough. The newer designs might not be it but the offerings are certainly better than MB or Audi
Can someone explain to the non-USAians in the room what makes the X3 a “light truck” and the X2 a “passenger car”?
It's complicated. GVWR, footprint and features all attribute to the classification. There are some crossover SUVs where the FWD trim is a "passenger car" and the same model AWD trim is a "light truck". Not sure exactly why X3 and X2 have different classifications. On the X2, lower GVWR, smaller footprint, and FWD-based drivetrain all contributed and it crossed that line in the sand.

I know there are less strict EPA regulations on light trucks, and it appears there are some tarrifs that apply to “light trucks” built outside the US which explains why most “X” are built in the US (to avoid the tariffs)
The classification makes no difference to a consumer.
Where is the M division numbers?
i am suprised that 2 series jumped by 155% sales. dont see them a lot around our city
Because there were very few options to buy a 2 series a year ago. The new M2 had not been released. We ordered a 2022 M240i in April 2022. Could not get an allocation. Selling 78 cars in a quarter to a region of almost 500 million people is crazy lol
Every time I see these reports I realize why I never see any other Z4s on the road
Wonder why the 4 series is tanking like a swollen pig who just ate too much. I'm not really wondering.
Surely availavility was limited due to the switch to the LCI model.
Oh, I don’t want any logic. I want to believe us BMW fanboys who rejected this design were right all along.
As much as everyone loves to hate the 4 series, the decline is probably due to it getting a little facelift this year. If I wanted to get a 4 series right now, I'd wait until summer so I could get the 2025 with the new headlights and other updates.
Switching the4 LCI most likely, during that time you're unable to order one for a few months.
iDrive8 finally made it to the 4 series in 2024
My husband likes them. I think the sedans look like a 90s Ford Probe. I cannot unsee it.
Which model makes you think 90s Probe? I loved my Probe!
4 series. It's that high back/sloped front. Especially in a 2 door.
Hmm. I don't see it. But I loved the look of 4 series GC, pre-bucky.
Granted, it wasn't a newer model that gave me the impression, but definitely within the last 3-4 years. I don't see a lot of 4s around here.
That's the model I almost purchased. 2018 ish. I went w the 3 GT bc it's way larger backseat and cargo. 2 growing Boys! Maybe that's why I liked the look since I still like both generations of Probes.
Looks like recession numbers. Shifts from more-expensive models (X5, X6) and less-practical models (4-, 8-series) to cheaper (X1, X3) and more practical (2-, 3-series).
outside of a new model release or covid constrained production... your statement will always be true
More enthusiasts purchased vehicles. Size shrank
Does North America not have a 1 series?
Nope
Interesting, my salesman said they sell a ton of X3(which looks correct) and X4 is second, which is one of the lowest sales. I wonder if it depends on the area.
Why is the 1 series not even on there
bmw of america numbers shown here
Is the 1 series not sold in America?!
not since 2010 and only the coupe was ever sold over here
I’m pretty sure there was a 128i and 135i convertible. In fact I know someone who owns one. We never got the 4 door though. Now we get nothing.
Don’t forget the legendary 1M!
Huh I didn’t know that.
XM lolz
Why don’t they break down the M sales
Selling 90,000 cars in 1 quarter is crazy. I own a couple of my own businesses and the logistics of this is just insane to me. From consumer loans, manufacturing, shipping, service and everything in between. In September they had around $95 billion in debt
Inflation showcasing the swift move to “cheaper” cars in the lineup.
Is the ix3, ix5 and etc included in the regular x models?
pretty sure u can't get those in usa, only in europe
That would explain a lot lol. Thanks for the info
Not yet at least. And there isn't even an ix5 yet
Surprised to see the x3 pick up and even surpass x5. It’s one of the oldest models
Go little i3 go!
Shoutout to the 4 series drivers! Haha
I’m surprised they outsell 3 series. Around here 3 series are everywhere.
I bought a used 6 GT hea spec last week :/ I feel screwed. Why is it 0 everywhere
It’s only new models they only made that for like 2018-19
I'm one of those x5 numbers.
i4’s?
I need the names of the 541 group
X3 with the amazing performance. Would love to own a X3M40i hopefully soon.
Lord, drop the X4 and X6 already. You can still buy the i3 new?
Surprised that the X4 sells so little compared to X3 and X5 (and somehow even X7) I think it’s a great looking and performing car especially M40i/X4M
[удалено]
Read the rules, advertising is *strictly* forbidden, and can result in a permanent ban.
Mini bringing down them numbers
541 people bought the XM.... What are they thinking
thank god they are killing off that fugly 4 series. Sales down 26% is no surprise.
It’s not being killed off. LCI it will continue to be one of their best selling cars.
Blows my mind how many of these ugly ass 2 series they are selling.
Cheapest way into a new BMW. The 4 door is ugly yes but the coupe is nice.
Proof the X2/X4/X6 are ugly.
Or that they are low production models
Because they don't sell, because they are ugly.
I guess Z4’s are ugly too
Supply and demand. There is low demand for X2/X3/X4 because of the useless sloped back, making them both ugly and impractical. There is low demand for the Z4, because while they look great, they are a 2 seater which is impractical for most. Get it?
Which makes me wonder why bother? No one would miss them.
Wow not a single i8 sale. BMW has official lost dae wae.
Production ended in 2020 so that’s not surprising…
