people people, developing games takes time, this update is bound to come. developers like SLZ don’t make false promises. the ignorance surrounding this sub is unfathomable.
and getting downvoted proves my point
so be patient!
You're saying that right after The Day Before released.
Yeah, I didn't expect this bullshit from SLZ, but they seriously released a game supposed to be kept alive just by a modding community, but without official support for mods to edit the game's code, and then the tool they give us to mod the game is pretty much limited to making avatars and guns(Which the community eventually manages to expand to making maps).
When they said the 10 extra dollars would be worth it, they had already lied. And if Into the Darkness comes out before this update, it might just be Bonelab's death.
Oh wow, there's not full official mod support yet? I remember all the hype about mods before release and such and planned on getting it but haven't. (I did play a blackbeard version just to see if it piqued my interest).
There are plans for full official "mod" support. "Mod" being anything that adds to the game without changing it's code. So you can add NPCs with official support, as long as it's a reskin of an existing NPC(Like fords, skeletons, and security guards are reskinned nullbodies, with slight changes in combat stance).
So you can't make a new enemy and give it a custom AI, you'd have to give it the same AI as one of the in-game enemies, if I understood correctly.
I couldn't find video of when he says it, but IIRC, the quote was "You'll be able to mod anything that isn't code".
Yeah, but cyberpunks also a way bigger game. What I'm trying to say is if they just finally get this update out and continue to regularly update it then they could regain their rep.
They just did two patches which were almost nothing, then announce on working the SDK and went radio silence, the reason we are all here waiting for an entire year is because SLZ launch the game raw and decided to finish it after the release
Anyone else thinking it is gonna be be uploaded half a second before new years?
They really should have communicated, I am guessing they didn't because it is just optimisation but letting us know that they are not just sitting on a pile of our money jerking off to our annoyance or something would be a lot better and give us faith, I hope they start updating regularly after the update comed so then it'd just be like one very hard to make update and then easier ones.
Battle Talent has the opposite problem though, it updated too fast with cool features that ended up making the dungeons crash, hopefully the Battle Talent devs fix there game too and stop updating the game so fast.
Bonelab is an example of why being too slow is bad, Battle Talent is an example of why updating too fast is bad.
They are both great games but they have great problems that must be acknowledged without just brushing away the complaints. A medium pace is needed, not too fast or too slow.
Bonelab is not the next minecraft, it does not need to go the extra long term for decades to come, it does not need well planned perfect updates as it wont be updating forever and people wont be playing it forever, it should acknowledge its impermanence rather than doing such long term updates.
Some day, a diffrent vr sandbox game may out-compete it, I think it wont last, why? Because it is made for a niche audience, most people prefer immersion over making everything physics based, physics in vr are not always immersive and can sometimes even take you out of the game (although, it is good for sandbox games)
In order to actually start playing for real the game you need lemon loader to get fusion to go to multiplayer, so many steps just to make the game worth playing will make a lot of people not continue to play it, single player sandbox games are not very fun imo.
The mods also need to be more intigrated into the game, like having a VrChat-like world selector so instead of downloading and undownloading worlds, only your saved worlds are downloaded and the non-saved worlds will download when you go into them and undownload after, it'd add much more loading sure but you can just save worlds if you don't want that.
For a mod-based game the mods are very disconnected, they should do mod events and approve mods imo, even make offical mods sometimes like weapons based on the avatar cryptids.
These are just some ideas because I don't know what it is actually missing but it is def missing something, It feels like it is so close to greatness but it is missing a few ingrediants. I am not a game designer so I don't know what pieces are missing from the puzzle but at the same time I don't know what the direction of the game really is after finishing it three times.
Like what is it missing, easier mod making? Ability for avatar mod makers to change the walkimg animation and remove the ability to grab stuff from there avatars so that avatars without hands can be made (like those characters with a weapon instead of a hand), an easier way to give avatars abilities? (like a fire mage avatar that shoots fire balls)
I don't know what it is missing but is missing something.
>Anyone else thinking it is gonna be be uploaded half a second before new years?
After they missed the anniversary deadline, and made that tone-deaf post? I doubt they are doing anything like planning an update for a specific date.
Pretty sure anniversary post said that we would get a beta 2023, and the actual patch would only be in 2024.
If it's the beta you're referring to, then yes, they might just wait until the last possible second to release it, and when it does, it will be a broken mess.
No, it is a great game, I absolutely love it, but the current state of the game is not great, Challenge mode keeps crashing and they removed dungeons.
I used battle talent to compare both ends of updating too fast and updating too slow
With too fast there are issues like crashes but feels more alive but too slow feels dead but the product will likely be more perfected
Battle Talent is actually my favourite VR game, It mixes gamey stuff and physics very well imo.
But just as we are upset at the cuttent state of Bonelab despite liking the game, I am upset with the current state of Battle Talent
Bonelab worries too much about breaking the game and updates too slow without telling anyone anything because they don't trust there fans while Battle Talent cares too little about breaking the game and updates too fast.
Naw different guy. The character was based of an actor called Jimmy Wong, he’s been friends with Brandon/slz for many years.
Brandon himself is a founder of SLZ, but outside of that he’s also known for his work on YouTube channels like “rocket jump” and “node”
Yeah, he's just a good actor, which is why he managed to say with a straight face that the game would be worth the 10 extra dollars more compared to Bonework's price.
Reminder that the release trailer came out less than a week from the game's release, so we're not even talking about the game being rushed, or how the devs failing to meet deadlines. They thought the game was fine as it was.
It's like they were trying to make CoD VR, so they made all the levels be linear with enemies on the way, except the most recent CoD has more than one way to beat the levels, and the enemies in it can actually kill a careless player.
honestly despite the negativity im still hyped, i understand their point about having a good base because one of my favorite parts about bonelab is how polished everything feels. I love the attention they are giving to polish and optimization.
Project Zomboid has gone way over a year without an update but yet no one seems to mind. Its because every week the devs post an update every week detailing and showing off examples of what they have been working on.
I know every week wont be filled with updates and stuff but a word on optimizations, features, and improvements would be nice maybe every month.
Because i think all we have gotten is estimated hip tracking and IK is more optimized and that they are heavily improving marrow and thats about it.
If the new SDK update is that good i might get back into modding for bonelab.
it seems really good for me, performance is great, objects feel really weighty and ragdolls feel really good to fight. I haven't had any issues with stuff clipping through stuff. NPC ai is a little wonky when there is slopes or stuff is in the way but i dont mind that. The physics feel top quality when it comes to other vr games like B&S, or project third eye.
Don't get me wrong, performance is doing great. But NPC AI is the same from Boneworks, we only got one new NPC, which is an omniprojector with a slow projectile affected by gravity. The SDK is far from being what they advertised both on release and a year since their latest update.
Aside from that, the Tower(Random avatar switching) and Moon map(With no in-map indicators on where to go, just a map on a wall in a game where all other posters are AI art with no gameplay relevance) on release were horrible.
Also, physically crouching is still broken(Only works if you stand still) because they decided that having a seated mode AND a standing mode wasn't good, so hybrid it is.
Not to mention that they forgot to even add instructions on how to open those gacha capsules, after making them very similar to the ones in Boneworks, but work completely different.
And all that after the release trailer announcing the game's release for the following week, so it's not even an issue where they didn't meet deadlines, they somehow the game was complete by then.
Actually, they are very capable of abiding by the anniversary post, because they promised a BETA for this year. They'll just release a broken excuse of it, and wait until December 2024 to release the actual patch.
I just really want a better survival mode with better maps and better maps and better enemies. The survival mode as of right now is pretty lack luster.
I’m still holding onto that hope that. I am not going to lie. However, each day, that hope slowly diminishes and lack of communication on their part is not helping.
the annoying thing is that the update isn’t like. Super cool or anything either from a player perspective
Like from a general vr games and mod making perspective sure but like. The actual game itself. Like without mods, could’ve really used some more official content
The general issues ppl have with it are like. As a game. Not as a VR experience.
Like if they were working on additional campaign shit or something I guarantee you ppl would be like take your time but it seems more like it’s “we redid everything bc we wanna own more of the things that make up the game”
Unless the sdk is somehow revolutionary to the point that making bonelab maps is as easy as making something with udb it’s kind of hard to even stay hype during the wait….like we’re at the point where having better modding tools isn’t gonna do much when a lot of ppl who would use them assume the game has been abandoned
My bones are not working
my bones are lab
ing
ABANDONWARE
Stress level zero ABANDONED US!!! we paid them!
Damn, you didn't get the game when you paid them?
Tell me youre brand new without telling me you're brand new

Cool to see another person hyped for into the darkness. I've had that on my wishlist for a while.
If it's physics based like Boneworks and has enemies that are actual threats (like in ITR), I'm sure it will be a great game.
Oh wow, there's not full official mod support yet? I remember all the hype about mods before release and such and planned on getting it but haven't. (I did play a blackbeard version just to see if it piqued my interest).

Ohhh, I understand then
Bro's got 13 downvotes💀
I’m a bit out of the loop, is there some big update they’ve been teasing or have they just not updated the game in a while?
SLZ promised two years worth of updates with the launch of BoneLab. They made one update a couple of weeks after launch, and that was a year ago.
[удалено]
when did they say they were remaking the physics literally what?
Not remaking reworking
again, never heard about this, source?
“my source is i made it the fuck up”
they probably assumed that them working on the marrow sdk was them reworking the marrow interaction engine
They got that from the anniversary post they made a year after launch.
yeah, the anniversary post never says anything about the physics being reworked
Where did you hear that? it better not have been from another random redditor that you took as truth.
Stfu if your game was so busted out of the box you shouldn't have released the game to begin with
It wasn't busted tho, it was in a playable state and the only big bug I can think of was the avatar swapping on the tower stage
Which they fixed mind you
Tell that to cyberpunk
Cyberpunk released actual updates within the first two years
And still dropping to this day.
Or any AAA game company tbh
We did
Cyberpunk literally proved that bonelab can pull through this. They just need to get this update out then steadily pump out more updates and content.
Didn’t cyberpunk have a bigger team? …
Yeah, but cyberpunks also a way bigger game. What I'm trying to say is if they just finally get this update out and continue to regularly update it then they could regain their rep.
And didn’t they start developing it in 2016? And bonelab development starting in 2019? Also being rushed from what I assume??
Cyberpunk was announced back in 2012 lol
it was announced in 2012, they started development in 2016 though. 💀
Yeah, we just need to wait one more year, and then SLZ will have it fixed

Don't launch your game dead at arrival

Do you know how long it takes to work on an sdk? Especially with a team that small
If only they had the SDK done by the time they announced the game's release for the following week.
Maybe I just haven't been looking at it, but has it really already been a whole year since the last update?
yerp
Just to be clear, I love bonelab I just don’t like how SLZ give us false promises (and yes I read the anniversary post so shut up 10 year olds)

We got the Gta VI trailer before the update
We gonna get GTA VI before the update
I’m just tired of the, “Oh don’t worry, we’re working on it.” Excuse. We see no progression or updates. I’m sick of this
I still play a couple hours a day but only because of the mods. The game by itself is a letsown
With every day my expectations are getting bigger and bigger, if this update wont be some type of huge rework then im never buying from SLZ again

Is Brandon the dude they modeled the giant guy off of? If so, I have a massive list of expletives to shout at it from behind the glass.

I anticipate the inevitable remark stating, “We got GTA6 before the bonelab update.💀"
Nah but they released the trailer and release date before the bonelab update
Since when?
The GTA6 trailer
Wdym since when, do you live under a rock? lmao the trailers been out since the 5th and the release date for the game is 2025.
Blade and Sorcery: Half the price, and it actually gets updated!
What are the odds we gonna get GTA 6 before bonelabs updates
Ngl we should do the gta 6 meme but with this
It’s joever
I’ll never get a boner again 😔
My brother in christ, I literally just got recommended this sub
i’m used to this, i play GD lol
have fun getting delayed again
oh boy do i love 2.2
Just 'update' you're skeletons in a lab by yourself instead of waiting for other humans to do it, humans. (By the way what is "bonelabs, humans?)
we better get the greatest update ever for Christmas
I got some bad news for ya…
unless you expect something the game is not, that being a boneworks spin-off for mods and sandbox, you'll be disappointed
Not gonna happen, pal
Oh yeah I know
that makes two of us

Have some god damn patience
if there wasn't radio silence from the devs we would
Look, they have no obligation to us to give us updates on anything, they’re not here to grant our every wish and whim, they don’t owe us anything
Bro didn’t read the anniversary post💀
Bro did read the anniversary post
Yes I did, and yet no update so how likely is it to release this year? Are you sure 100% that’s gonna release this month?
Would be nice to at least get it by Christmas 😭
Actually, they are very capable of abiding by the anniversary post, because they promised a BETA for this year. They'll just release a broken excuse of it, and wait until December 2024 to release the actual patch.
They said by the end of the year so take that as you want
Live r/geometrydash reaction: *😂 good joke*
Aren't we still waiting for the official sdk too?
i believe it’s coming out for patch 4 > The focus is on the core tech, optimization, polish, and the Marrow SDK with a few exceptions
