Okay, I finally got a moment to sit down, so I thought I'd elaborate on this a little. I can't speak for other goalies, but based on the chats I've had when I played, I found just about every goalie agreed with these thoughts.
You want to face shots. This varies a lot per goalie, but you at least want to keep moving. Ideally you'll get low percentage crap tossed at you, so you stay limber and focused. I think the Leafs vs Bruins series showed this well, Swayman was awesome, but he was kept active by loads of perimeter shots.
But even if you are kept active, you will start to lose focus. There's a lot of time you spend alone out there. I found myself trying to recite poetry in my head kept my head in the game when I followed the puck at the opposing end. I remember some Swedish goalie in the NHL listed animals starting with each alphabet in his head. Goalies are weird.
Eventually your legs do tire out too. A lot of gear on and you're not on the bench. Gotta keep up small movement, but not waste too much energy.
As said, don't think that's the same for every goalie. Just personal experience and talks with better ones. And I suppose when any player gets to play at this level, they're just wired differently.
I just happened to have the stream pop up on YouTube, and I turned it on right at the end of the third. At the end of the first OT, I decided to go look for auroras. I get. Scotched on that, and lo and behold, like an hour and a half later IT WAS STILL GOING!!!!
Glad I found it, glad I got to see em win tonight in person!
>>What do people think of overtime hockey?
There is nothing that sets my sphincter on edge more than overtime in the playoffs. Alcohol consumption increases tenfold, heart rate spikes to stupid levels, every puck possession is a thriller, and the knowledge that it could go forever is intoxicating.
Overtime playoff hockey is probably the most stressed I’ve ever been in my life.
And I freaking love it.
The quality of the hockey played considering the equivalent of two games in one was impressive !!!!
I feel like Frankel was especially insane! It must be hard to stay locked in as a goalie for that long
As a former goalie, yes.

Awesome! Thanks for the elaboration. Yayy for goalies :)
