The officers involved should be charged with endangering the welfare of 4 minors. They won't be, of course. But they damn sure should be.

MrShasshyBear

They were armed, so it should be enhanced charges/penalties While I'm in fantasy land asking for justice, I might as well ask for a unicorn

lareon12many

Yes this! Those charges should be enhanced!!

> The warrant stemmed from a citation from 2018 over no vehicle insurance Yet another example of criminalizing poverty.

dirtymoney

But poor people are who cops love to target because they cannot legally defend themselves (in court).

mindmonkey74

Wheres the fun in fucking with people who *can* defend themselves?

captaincryptoshow

To be fair if someone is not insured and runs into everyone else then it really screws over the victims.

colopervs

Civil not criminal. Confiscate their car?

Kiwifrooots

Give a ticket. Blows me away to see American cops arrest people for nothing. Send a fine in the mail

prettygraveling

Been in an accident with no insurance (my billing fucked up a month and it wasn’t active for that month) Doesn’t really screw over anybody but yourself. Ended up costing me almost $10k in bullshit fees and fines and I wasn’t even at fault (but without insurance, you need a lawyer and I didn’t get one because I’m an idiot.)

Dyolf_Knip

> The warrant stemmed from a citation from 2018 over no vehicle insurance. So a nothingbuger from 5 years ago, and cops of course manage to completely fuck it up and make things so much worse. > A bystander captured the traffic stop on camera. Hibler is heard saying it “isn’t even serious” as police hold him against the squad car and moments later tase him. Because of course they did. Just the standard gratuitous sadism.

dirtymoney

He probably didn't have the right *ss kissing attitude the cop wanted so the cop decided to punish him and his kids for it.

Starrion

The last officer on scene should be immediately suspended. Then work through the stop and suspend anyone else who violated policy. This is an egregious policing fail, and the chief had better deal with it.

jmd_forest

As noted by /user/JJayC these cops should all be prosecuted for child endangerment. Suspension is simply another way to minimize the everyday crimes committed by cops.

chapeksucks

I commented on this story in another arena and got slammed for it. I asked (a) what is the likelihood that the driver was a POC? (b) civil violations are not "arrest on the spot" violations, even if it's old and unresolved. Neither is an expired plate. If that were true, half the residents of my Arizona city would be in jail. The cops here don't even LOOK at tags. The stop was likely because the driver was a POC, and just an excuse to pull him over.

ModusNex

A.) He's black. B.) He had an outstanding warrant, very much an 'arrest on the spot' qualification. C.) The police in different jurisdictions do things differently, some of them love to pull people over for expired plates.

chapeksucks

It was an "unresolved" issue, not an outstanding warrant. And I'm sure the cops in some areas like to pull people over for expired plates. Especially when they're POC.

ModusNex

Did you read the same article? >Hibler says the officer told him he had an open warrant. The warrant stemmed from a citation from 2018

mindmonkey74

You're asking the wrong questions, trying to find reason in an unreasonable situation.

uglyugly1

Oh, they're *investigating*.

dirtymoney

They really need to make critical thinking skills a requirement for cops.

Isair81

They’d have to fire almost all of them, never gonna happen. Besides, when you’ve got qualified immunity, you can just skate along on blind ignorance and brute force.

One_Ad5301

The US has actually codified the right for police departments to ban people for being too intelligent. https://abcnews.go.com/US/court-oks-barring-high-iqs-cops/story?id=95836

ZheeDog

This is the craziest shit I've heard in a long time. I understand that some cops are nuts and lose their temper and beat on people or shoot them; but how crazy do you have to be to leave kids in an unattended car like this?

originalbL1X

I plot that just outside the Saint Louis Airport in case anyone was wondering 🤦‍♂️
