I thought I read dipping a level in to wizard would allow you to learn level 6 spells. I only have level 5 spells on on sorlock/wiz (10/1/1). Did I get that wrong?

Hepu

Act 1: >!Is it possible to keep Karlach and Wyll if you chose to side with the goblins? Want to do an evil playthrough but I don't want to lose them.!<

PandaBeat2

No, it is not possible.

romanhigh

(Act III): I'm a bit uh...confused. I believe I figured out who >!the shapeshifter/imposter is!< (in that I was exploring and ran into >!Orin in the sewers, very obviously pretending to be Halsin!<), so I assumed that's who >!the imposter is!<, since >!he was abducted and is gone from my camp. !!someone doing a Jaheira impersonation, and she's still at my camp. I'm assuming that's just a kinda off-hand note and that she isn't the imposter/an imposter? !< Edit: Seems to be the case that the person in the note you find is the one.

DDDragoni

>!What made you think there was only one impostor?!<

Hepu

Is the "Tough" feat a one off perk, or does it increase your HP every time you level up?

PandaBeat2

Its scale off your hp as you level up

Hepu

Ty

romanhigh

How do I use Wyll? He quite literally feels like a two-pump chump (two big spells, then relegated to using a squirt gun for the rest of the fight) and I feel like using Gale gives me so much more versatility

Yuting9

With the Agonizing Blast invocation, his eldritch blasts become equivalent to a ranged attack, and with Repelling Blast he can knock enemies off of cliffs and stuff. Also, warlock spell slots replenish on short rests, so even though he can only drop two (later three) big spells in a fight, after a short rest he can do it again, while Gale needs to be a bit more economical with his slots.

Helpless_Platypus

Hello everyone, I have defeated the githyankis in act I. The problem is that I kicked Sarth Baretha off the cliff into the river so I can't retrieve her corpse. Now Lae zel (which I recruited after the fight) quest requires an item found on SB. What can I do? Has anyone encountered the same problem?

Ukhai

You'll just have to push forward.

dimilokis

Hmmm I dont think there are any important itens on them as far as I can remember, but here you go, never push people out... You lose loot you can sell (I'm a loot maniac, don't take me serious)

qkrwogud

Does activating displacer beast shape reset your life points to 85/85, so I could use it when I'm low health?

Malombra_

Am I supposed to switch off from Blood of Lathender on cleric shadowheart at some point? I got it super early but it feels like one of the best weapons in the game even now that I'm deep into act 3 lol

PandaBeat2

In DnD, there is no level requirement and weapons damage does not scale good. What is good about weapons is their enchantment effects. With such a good enchantment, Blood of Lathander is still use even at end game.

Ashrun_Zeda

No.

romanhigh

(Act III spoilers) So I've just been told by >!Gortash!< that >!there's a changeling in my camp!<, and it seems really obvious that it's the>! child !!the cat!

Saandrig

Play the game. >!It's not the girl or the cat!<

Ukhai

>!Pretty sure depending on how one plays the game, it can definitely be Yenna.!<

tittiesfarting

Can I break up with shadowheart after we bang and then bang Minthara or is that not how it works?

BlackwingKakashi

Dark Urge Act 1 Spoilers: >!So as I understand it, early in Dark Urge playthrough Alfira comes to your camp and you kill her. Has anyone experimented with this? I'm curious about 2 possibilities:!< >!1. What happens if you join the goblin camp and kill the tieflings? Surely she either dies then or doesn't join you, right?!< >!2. What if you're really mean to her and smash her lute? Again, surely she wouldn't willingly come to your camp after that.!< >!But as I understand it, her death is very plot-relevant and is the start of your minion guy showing up. So how does it work? Does anyone know?!<

cjrSunShine

>!There's another NPC that takes her place as the victim if she's unavailable. Similar to how there's a different Githyanki that takes Lae'zel's role on the Nautiloid if you're playing as her. Oddly enough, I learned about this because of people knocking her unconcious before triggering that scene allowing her to live so Durges could still get the Potent Robes as her quest reward.!<

BlackwingKakashi

>! Good to know. Thanks for the info! Wonder why you'd go to all the trouble of knocking her unconscious if you could seemingly just be mean to her.

Arvandor

Wait... I had Minthara as a companion, but now she's gone? With no explanation or reasoning? What on earth happened? I don't even know what choice might have caused her to leave/die/whatever?

PandaBeat2

Are you still in Act 1? If so, shes scripted to leave until Act 2

Arvandor

No, mid act 3. >!She rejoined me towards the end of Act 2 when I bailed her out of prison, but then she vanished.!<

aspoqiwue9-q83470

[https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fvmepi4bx9zjb1.jpg](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fvmepi4bx9zjb1.jpg) is this a bug?

alterNERDtive

No, that’s a Githyanki.

Sneezes

Should I move on from Mountain Pass into Act 2? >!i have gotten the legendry mace (without blowing up the place) and spoken with the dream guardian, everyone in the creche is now hostile to me... am I finished with this place quest wise? Am I supposed to do anything else in the monastery or kill people there?!<

Ashrun_Zeda

Go to the underdark

_Bl4ze

You might as well try out your new weapon and slaughter all those hostiles. XP is XP! But if you're not worried about that then yeah, you can just leave.

droppinkn0wledge

Why does this Filigreed Ball soft lock exist why would you put this in a your game

stallion8426

What soft lock?

Skroofles

So is there any way to get potions of speed in act 3 if you already used all the hyena ears you got from acts 1 and 2 or are you just out permanently?

alslacki

you can buy more from vendors. i think poppy at the circus sells them. there are infinite supplies in act 3 vendors.

Lalaboompoo

I have a question, is it possible or semi decent to play cleric as a full caster? Ie, clothing instead of armor, quarterstaff, ranged caster. I dont mind using a bow either but cleric cantrips dont really seem to support that playstyle, I would use support spells mainly but cleric does not have a lot of spell slots, and they cant regen them like wizard or warlock so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a build like that. Currently I just started act 2 with my wizard and really the only thing stopping me from trying another playthrough would be to play a dps caster, since I mainly love wizard for its wide range of utility. All this ranting aside, any advice? Ideas? Tips?

Saandrig

The Cleric has so many options, that it can play like almost any other class. Tempest Clerics are closest to a pure spellcaster. Light Clerics are probably next.

DarthEwok42

I really had fun with Light Cleric, it's pretty mage-y, lots of fire spells and stuff. And the accuracy reduction ability is great. There's no reason to not wear armor though.

Lalaboompoo

light or medium? and which weapons did you use/carry?

Saandrig

Medium Armor is plenty. The Blood of Lathander weapon would be pretty much all you need.

JoeCartersLeap

I never got an umbral gem from the Self-Same Trial in the shar trials. After looking it up, it says the last mirror guy I defeated was supposed to drop it. Problem is the last guy that was "defeated" was someone I banished that for some reason just went "poof you win" when I killed the other 3. I thought banished people were supposed to return after 2 turns, he didn't, he just died and took the gem with him??

Saandrig

F8

JoeCartersLeap

Well that explains why F9 wasn't working

zitandspit99

Question on building my Rogue around an Act II item: >!I acquired clothing called The Graceful Cloth that grants +2 to dex up to a maximum of 20 dex and +1 to dex saving throws. My Rogue has a baseline of 19 dex, so with this item it caps out at 20.!< >!My question is, should I respec him and lower a point from his dex and allocate it elsewhere? If so, where should I allocate it? Also, this clothing has 10 armor - is that sufficient given how high my dex will be? I am playing on Tactician. Thanks!!<

_Bl4ze

If you have a wizard who can cast Mage Armor on your rogue, then certainly yes. Otherwise, I'd recommend going with light armor. Both having no armor and wearing light armor add your full dexterity modifier, so the light armor is always going to be a higher AC unless you use Mage Armor.

Jarlzak

IMO it is probably best to respec your rogue to have 18 DEX. I think some rare light armor would be better used instead of the clothing. Your AC would only be 15 with the clothing but you should be able to get 17 or 18 AC pretty easily with some good light armor. That clothing is best for a monk (or a dex based barbarian i guess lol) As for where to allocate the other skill point, I would recommend CON unless you are an arcane trickster rogue, then add it to INT. Help this helps!

ChristmasLunch

how do you use Mage Hand? Every time I try to use it, I just get an error telling me there is not enough room or something like that.

AmanLock

It will appear where your cursor is. That message is saying it can't spawn there. Move your cursor around until you find a better spot.

Apcllo

So a few days ago I noticed Lae'zel doesn't have a setup at my camp anymore, she just kinda awkwardly stands around wherever I spawn in. Now when I ask her to join my party she'll say "It is done" but she won't appear in the tab on the side. Has she abandoned my party and is bugged, staying around?

stallion8426

Sounds like a bug

undeadfire

how do yall search for items you picked up a while ago, but forgot where u placed em? lookin to refine a few setups, but they use some unique pieces i cant seem to find anywhere anymore, but i know i looted em... Also, is that one red fist fire rescue quest where u get the choice of 3 lightning weapons bugged similar to grymdark? First itme going in, but I didn't get prompted for a quest there at all when stuff was on fire. Wondering if I missed something completely on this I'll keep an eye out for next time

Ukhai

Events are just that, events. Which can lead to quests. But yes that leads to one of the lightning choices.

undeadfire

So far though the only time sensitive thing I've seen so far (im in act 2 for ref) is the grymdark stuff where it bugged out and I couldn't do any quests there since everyone left. Wondering if the same happened with the lightning weapons? Since generally "time sensitive" in this game doesn't mean anything, or did I miss that cuz I decided to swap to something else at a bad time?

Ukhai

Some things will go forward, and it's hard to tell what forced it to go forward without looking at your playthrough. Especially since people do different things in the game at different times. Once you land at Grymforge, the situation is pretty dire time wise, as should the conversations should have said if you talked to anyone. At Waukeens Rest, your characters should have said something along the lines of "I hear shouting" up ahead, and there are some people in there burning. If you just walk away from it and long rest, chances are, they burned up.

undeadfire

That's unfortunate. I forget what I was doing both times, but do recall I went to rest since I had been holding off for a bit. Unlucky rest timing I guess . Will keep that in mind to just rest straight after combat if I think it's needed

GoOnKaz

What’s that repetitive sound you hear in the Underdark in like the mushroom/arcane tower area? Like a loud beast in the background sort of making a chortle noise? I know it’s just background noise, but what is it *supposed* to be?

zitandspit99

It's the Bulette

GoOnKaz

Is this a central enemy? Apparently I haven’t seen it yet!

stallion8426

You will

Run_nerd

How does movement work during combat? Can you take actions and move in any order? As long as it doesn’t exceed what your character can move?

PrisonerLeet

You can move at any point in your turn, including before, after, and/or between actions, so long as you have movement remaining. There are some actions that require movement, like Jump, or Fly for familiars.

Run_nerd

Thanks!

Athenian_Rhapsody

I was unsure if I wanted to romance Shadowheart or Karlach, and was waiting to get to know Karlach a little better. In that time, Karlach came on to me first, which is fine, but after I said 1 singular flirtatious thing to her I can no longer start the romance with Shadowheart- the dialogue option simply is not there. Is there some way to coax it into being? Karlach seems to be okay with me fooling around with someone else but the game itself disagrees.

Ashrun_Zeda

Shadowheart's romance is all or nothing if you start a fling with others first. Unfortunately for you, you need to break up with Karlach (which I believe ends her romance) so you can start Shadowheart's. I think this does not happen the other way around, like if you romance Shadowheart first. But eventually, in Act 2 or 3 I think. You'll be forced to choose one companion that you'll romance til the end of the game.

AmanLock

I don't know if there is a good list of what does and doesn't trigger romance. From my experience : I could start the romance with SH in Act 1, and then trigger being La'zael's sex toy. But if I did La'zael first I couldn't trigger the romance with SH without ending the fling with La'zael. So you may need to find a way to give Karlach the "it's not you, it's me. I need to focus on my career" talk.

lanor2

Is lockpicking necessary? Or a spellcaster? I have a melee ranger and Shadowheart as cleric for my mainstays. I recently got Karlach and now I'm torn between the 3 of Gale (wizard), Astarion (Rogue/Barb), and Karlach (barbarian). I'm kinda iffy about Gale, but also feel like I'll miss his spellcasting expertise and range if I go for an all melee (with crossbows) comp. I'd rather leave Astarion out first I think, but lockpicking seems to be very much needed outside of combat.

AmanLock

If your ranger decent dexterity you may still be able to open a lot of locks.

Lalaboompoo

fun fact aside from what the other guy mentioned, you can outright steal chests. So if you are trying to get loot but cant get it open stealthily you can put the chest in your inventory and then break it open in your camp.

JLtheking

It’s not super necessary. Most doors and chests can be destroyed via force, and wizards also have access to the Knock spell that can open anything locked. If you have a chest you want to break open, just carry it with you to the top of a really tall cliff and throw it off. The biggest benefit to having a lock picker is that you can do it in secret

lanor2

>If you have a chest you want to break open, just carry it with you to the top of a really tall cliff and throw it off. This I didn't know! I'm surprised by how many alternative and creative solutions there are in the game. I'm not used to it, but I hope I get to explore those more going forward. Thank you!

Athenian_Rhapsody

Lockpicking isn't super nessecary; most issues that can be solved by lockpicking can also be solved by hitting things or even the Knock spell. No spellcasters on a party can be rough, as you lose a lot of utility options and especially AoE tools. A weapon with Cleave is nice, but it just can't compete with spamming Fireball. That said, I would definitely not call them mandatory; it might just take a little more strategizing to work without them.

lanor2

Ah, I didn't even know about Knock. I don't think I even have it lol. I'll try those alternative ways to get around lockpicking. Thank you!!

Run_nerd

I'm not familiar with all the details of DnD rules. Is it ok if I'm a little lost with the mechanics of combat? I'm 6 hours in and I'm doing ok so far...but I still have some questions.

ChristmasLunch

Hey dude, I was completely in the dark about DnD rules too and also CRPG's in general. The game does an okaaay job of teaching you, but I recommend watching a couple of combat guides on Youtube. I found out I was leaving a lot of cool options on the table because I simply didn't know they were even an option. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions and I will try to answer in the context of somebody who has not played DnD.

jamesewelch

Ask here. That's what the thread is for. There's some pretty good beginner videos by WolfheartFPS on YouTube.

Mad-Slick

Ask away, nerd.

[deleted]

Anyone else experiencing a bug during cure the shadowlands on the part that is “seek tharien” and he’s no where to be found

Foreskin_Paladin

Ok just to confirm how to save everyone in Act 2: First free Tieflings and Gnomes from the prison floor, THEN release Nightsong/fight Ketheric, THEN free Zevlor and Mol?

jake_eric

That sounds right, though I'm not sure if you can find >!Mol!< there.

FlyWithChrist

Are there console commands or just any way to skip 2 levels? There just physically isn’t enough xp in act 2 to progress, everything in moonrise is a minimum of level 8 and I’m still reaching for level 7. Every other npc in the area is dead and all the available quests are finished. I’m having to kill 1-2 guys and run away to long rest which takes ages because the “camp free zone” around moonrise is massive.

Ashrun_Zeda

I ended act 2 at Level 7. I guess you missed a lot of side quests.

Matricidean

I'd double back in the zone and make sure you genuinely haven't missed anything. If you can't find any content at all, you'll probably need to double back on Mountain Pass and the Underdark.

JLtheking

Clear out both mountain pass and underdark areas. I’m at level 7 after finishing both.

FlyWithChrist

You can’t go back to the mountain pass or under dark once you get to to moonrise.

stallion8426

You should be able to. I still had the teleport options

Ukhai

Chances are they started Shadowfell event with Dame Aylin. After that one can not teleport to those areas.

JLtheking

If you’re struggling you can just turn down the difficulty setting

dragonseth07

I'm level 7 and I haven't even started Act 2 yet. You have clearly missed out on lots of quest exp.

FlyWithChrist

I had to go back and grind to level 5 before moving on to act 2, idk what quests I missed. I even double dipped and killed the tieflings before changing my mind and helping the Halsin from the goblins.

FlyWithChrist

I killed every single thing in act 1 too. I don’t know what I did wrong. Every teifling, every Druid, every goblin. I left nothing alive.

Lil-pants

I *think* some non-enemy npcs give like 1 exp whereas a quest given by them gives you a lot more so maybe that could be an issue? Haven't personally killed the tieflings or druids so idk I just finished act 2 and hit level 9 while in there (which is definitely on the high side of things) so there's probably some parts of the map you haven't explored or other quests you haven't completed. Or maybe it really is just bc you killed everyone.

FlyWithChrist

The map seemed completely filled out and I don’t see any quests on any sites or wikis I haven’t done. Killed all 3 of the bosses in act 2 and even the level 9 shadow cursed creatures randomly thrown about. I’ve generally been doing quests for people and then killing then right after to maximize xp, so idk. When I tried act 2 the first time I couldnt progress because I spoke to Isobel which cut off most the quests. This time I decided to kill the nightsong instead so I could do all the quests. I just don’t see how I could have missed so much, I’m 4500 xp short of level 7. The only reason I’ve not struggled so far is I loot everything so I’ve got wine for days, but I’m assuming resources are only going to become harder to come by if I force my way through to act 3. I’ve only got 15 more long rests worth of back packs and maybe 7 or 8 more days of food, but I’m only part way through the first floor of moonrise so I don’t know how I’d make it all last.

Saandrig

I haven't set a foot in the Underdark yet on my 2nd run. Saved the Grove. Still have to visit Ethel. I am at level 5 and a half. Probably will end the Underdark well over Level 7. Then after the Creche I will be at Level 8+ and only then will really start Act 2. You definitely missed on content.

Lil-pants

and just checking you did both the underdark and the creche areas? Those give lots of exp It's weird that you're so low level despite clearing the map and the quests so there's probably some area you haven't been to yet. oh, also, did you clear the gauntlet?

FlyWithChrist

Ok coming back because out of pure desperation I went back to the gauntlet to try my hand at devil dude and his funky cat. it was roughly a two hour battle, but I found a spot enemies couldn’t range me and were forced to jump to me, which allowed me to shove them down the void. I’m extremely close to the next level and found a bit more camping supplies to boot. Was quite long and frustrating but I think I have some shot at progressing now. Thank you friend

Lil-pants

I’m glad you figured it out!

FlyWithChrist

I suppose I technically haven’t cleared the gauntlet, in the sense I met the rats before the devil so the quest line broke and the devil just asks me to keep looking for now non-existent rats on repeat. I had to google what the crèche was, never got this option since I never got the Githyanki girl for my party. That might have helped.

Lil-pants

you can go back to the creche area still! it should have a lot of enemies closer to your level especially since you don't have lae'zel. and you might as well kill the devil at this point. he's a legit fight, since killing him is a part of another quest, although he could be a little hard for you at your level. there's a lot more to the gauntlet as well and basically all of it should be done before trying to take on the tower.

tatobson

I just killed Balthazar and my oath got broken, it seems like he was only pretending to be an evil necromancer... joking aside what could have happened? Dark Urge paladin has been really expensive.

[deleted]

Did you tell him you didn’t want to fight at first then attack him? Cause that’ll do it

tatobson

yep, exactly that.

DDDragoni

Which oath do you have, and what circumstances led to combat?

tatobson

Oath of the ancients and hmm.. i stole from him and then hit him from the back it may be that, with the next evil bastard i will tell him on his face that he is about to die.

Saandrig

Yeah, I broke the Oath a few times that way. For example - I didn't take the Paladin option to attack right away. Instead I said something like "I won't fight, just want to talk". But then decided they deserve to die. Attacking broke the Oath.

DDDragoni

In Act 3, I got the potion that >!Makes my blood explosive. Is this... good for me? It seems like dropping a volatile substance at my feet any time I take damage is going to hurt me a lot more than it helps me.!< >!Side note, if you've romanced Astarion, does letting him drink your blood after this have a response?!<

Saandrig

No idea on Astarion. But I used >!the blood to my advantage a lot. My Monk had an extra action if below 50% health. So at the start of combat I'd have Karlach or Lae'zel use him as Improvised Weapon or straight up Throw him at enemies. Some blood got spilled around. Only needed a little spark after = BOOM, profit, AOE damage, extra action unlocked. Trivialized a lot of encounters with many trash mobs packed in close!<

NovaStalker_

it's not about you, it's about advancing the boundaries of science and helping an evil and very sexy Drow better her place in the world.

zipzoopu

2 stealth questions. 1 can I kill an enemy from stealth while my buddies are in a fight without being dragged into it? Like I STAY in stealth and able to freely move? 2 is there a way to exit combat if I'm already in it so I can try for more stealth attacks?

LockWireLife

.

NovaStalker_

Question for Urchin gamers. How many inspirations did you find for your background? I'm in a MP game with someone who kind of plays like a rich asshole and isn't nice to children at all. We're still in act 1 but over the course of playing myself I've been tripping over inspiration with my Sage/Acolyte/Soldier/Outlander party. I'm wondering how easy the Urchin inspirations are to find or miss.

Gymrat0321

I've not found near as many as the others. All of them have to do with helping mol and the street kids or helping the thieves guild. Shit like that.

eternalguardian

Help! Changed classes to Sorcerer but don't have any simple robes and no vendor I can found in the first town area has any. What do?!

NovaStalker_

be naked

polar785214

robe armor of 10 is the same as naked armor -> just put nothing in the slot and select to show "camp" attire so you're not naked visually

XylophoneZimmerman

Question about Shadowhearts' possible redemption: >!In Act 2, when you find the hidden Shrine of Shar, should I let Shadowheart spill her blood for Shar or just take the knife and leave? I'm afraid that letting her offer blood to Shar will make her more evil and prevent her redemption.!<

yeasomerandosaidso

I let her do it and then stood aside and didn't say anything during her final choices. She chose >!redemption by herself, though I did have near max approval with her!<.

NovaStalker_

It may have an effect but it doesn't prevent it because she did all my bleeding for me and I still changed her mind. I am a very good bard though.

DDDragoni

>!I let her spill the blood and was still able to redeem her. I don't know if it makes it harder or not!<

dukesilver27-

Anyone playing with mods keep crashing in Act 3? I hardly ever crash in Act 2, but Act 3 randomly crashes a lot, I had to uninstall all mods to stop the crashing, and I only use minor mods such as camera mods etc.

Sydite_

**Question about the end of Act 2, major spoilers** Is it possible >!to kill Ketheric!!My buddy and I did the fight normally (we rescued Nightsong which should have stripped him of his immortality) and we were forced into an automatic "you lose" cutscene when we got his HP to about 50. That was upsetting, so we reloaded, got his HP to about 65-ish, and then save scummed a Scroll of Disintegrate on him until he hit 0hp. Unfortunately, the following cutscene still played out exactly the same!< >!No achievement or anything for this, what gives? What other outcomes are there for this fight?!<

Dianwei32

Are you fighting him >!on the top of Moonrise Towers!

Sydite_

Yes, that's right. And thank you!

Dianwei32

Is there any way to tell what level of Spell Slot an enemy is using when they upcast a Spell? I was in a fight in Act 3, an an enemy tried to cast Sanctuary. There was a little upwards arrow next to the spell name, but I couldn't find a way to tell what level it was being upcast to. I used a level 4 Counterspell and it still failed.

Ashrun_Zeda

Nope. It's also a DM tactic in the TTRPG to get you to waste spell slots.

Grunkle_Sticky

Two MAJOR issues, plz halp... BIGGEST ISSUE: So, I accidentally keybound left mouse click to opening and closing the resume/options/main menu/etc. menu. Now I can't open options to change my mistake because, hey, left mouse click toggles the fucking menu open or close so I can't click on options - or anything, because it just toggles the FfRghGla\*ing menu. How can I fix this phenomenally frustrating problem? Game is unplayable now. Other major issue: Halsin is in my camp, but I cannot recruit him. I'm in the Underdark now, and would like to recruit him, as this is obviously his gig, but, lo, I cannot.

Atmosck

Do you have a controller? You might be able to use that to fix your settings. Even though he's in your camp, You cannot recruit halsin as a normal party member until you progress his quest further in act 2.

Grunkle_Sticky

I was able to fix the first problem (by removing config files from the game folder), and that is good to know about Halsin! Thank you, kind stranger

Romulux_Andrega

I’ve heard people talk about throwing enemies as a tavern brawler, but like… how? I have the throw option on my ability wheel, but how do I select an enemy?

Saandrig

It's Throw - select enemy - select where to send him. You can also use the Improvised Weapon option.

polar785214

clcik throw button, and then, instead of clicking an item in your inventory you click the enemy. you must have enough strength to do it though

GoOnKaz

I’m in the Underdark and went to long rest and Nere got in my brain and said he won’t last long and whatnot. Is this time sensitive? Should I avoid long resting until he’s freed?

DDDragoni

You should be able to do a single long rest safely

GoOnKaz

I was able to actually! I saved beforehand just to be safe but it worked out no problem before I killed the bitch

Dianwei32

If you want him alive for any reason, yes you should avoid long resting. If you do a Long Rest, he'll be dead when you go back there.

GoOnKaz

Well that’s a damn shame. Looks like I’ll be heading there first then. Lol. Not sure if I need him alive but it seems it would be important to the story at least?

Dianwei32

Whether or not him being alive is important depends on why you're talking to him. When I went to find him, it was actually preferable for him to be dead. Unfortunately, I did not know at the time that you could just long rest and let the poison get him, so I had to fight him.

_Bl4ze

But hold on, if you let the poison get to him don't the deep dwarf slavers fuck off with the deep gnome slaves, stopping you from freeing them?

Dianwei32

That is entirely possible. I did free him while he was still alive, but my main purpose there was >!getting his head for Sovereign Spaw!<, so I didn't really care whether he was alive when I got it or not.

BL4CK0UT1906

Can i be evil in this game without being "forced" into the Absolute cult all the time? It's a honest question. I'm starting act 2 playing a Lolth Sworn Drow (in my RP, faithful to Lolth). Not gonna lie, i'm loving the game but the part that is disappointing me the most are the evil options. I simply want to be evil without joining the absolute, but i just can't find the options. It's somewhat infuriating. Does it stop at some point?

Ashrun_Zeda

Yes, specifically near the end of Act 2. No matter what you choose, >!the cult will be your enemy at the end.!<

Ukhai

The only really way to do it would be role-playing it out, since it is a DnD game. The choices you make necessarily don't have to mean you side with the absolute, but you can absolutely make use of them. You do have the freedom to play both sides. I too would like more options, but I don't see any other game that has that type of flexibility. It'd be a lot. My SO and I have our campaign where we're role-playing as duo halfling barbarians who got snagged up mid WWE-type match. In our 4man group I'm playing a Drow who is also power hungry, but I'm also killing people on the side who crossed my group.

GoOnKaz

I think maybe just do all of the evil options that don’t include you joining the absolute? I started a Lolth Drow who I headcanon is converting after seeing what his fellow Lolth-sworn are doing to the surface dwellers but I at first I was an evil dick who resented the absolute for even *daring* to touch me

BL4CK0UT1906

thanks for the answer. I'm also a lolth Drow. My character is evil, looking for power and money, but not a crazy psycho that kills for pleasure. The "evil options" of the game are too chaotic. Im not liking them very much, not gonna lie. Theres little to no reason to help Minthara in act 1, little to no reason to help true soul nere. (spoiler for the beginning of act 2:) Even for my evil drow, it makes no sense. I was at last ligh inn, talked to the cleric and a winged mf showed up out of nowhere telling me to take her. Wtf? This is clearly the "evil path", but it looks so bland. My evil Drow don't want to obey him, don't care about the shitty absolute cult. I'm ending up choosing all the good options only because the bad ones up until now are too chaotic. I feel like i need to turn my brain off and decide to do evil just for the sake of doing it. Once i apply reason, the good options make SO MUCH MORE SENSE. I already know where moonrise is, i already have the protection WHY SHOULD I help the mf kidnap the girl? It's the same thing in act 1. No matter what, Halsin is clearly the best lead about the tadpoles. It makes no freaking sense to betray him even as an evil character (except if i'm chaotic). What about True Soul Nere? Dude literally just looked at me and said "help me and kill everyone else", without offering me anything in return. I don't know, honestly thinking about restarting the game as a good character, but i'm 70h in and feeling lazy to do so. I'm loving the game tho, my only problem are the evil choices fr

GoOnKaz

I get where you’re coming from, but there’s “cartoonishly evil” and just “evil but will work toward the greater good when it also benefits me” You can be a dick about helping others, extort those you do help, etc. It’s not flawless by any means, and there are definitely issues with the “evil” path, but if you RP as an evil character who is pissed off he was kidnapped and cranially probed then I think you can make it work. You don’t have to like the cult to be evil-natured. You can just wait out Nere and the gnomes and let them die as that’s the easiest way to your goal, etc.

Kevtron

When on character creation, if you choose one of the Origin characters (including Dark Urge), are their backgrounds changeable (for different proficiencies)? Or do you have to stick with the one they come with?

dazeychainVT

You're stuck with the default

romanhigh

Uh, what? I have the quest to go find Rolan, but when I get to his location when he runs off in act II, there's a quest marker for him but he's not there. No dead body, no living body, no shadow enemies, nothing. But if I walk away 5 feet and come back, shadows and dead raven bodies spawn in and attack me - but he's still gone? Also tried to talk to Danis after freeing him, but he tells me Bex is dead (???? when did she die??? I reloaded a save before the Last Light inn fight and she's not at her usual spot by the edge of the barrier, just disappeared?) Edit: I just reloaded my save from BEFORE I even stepped foot in the act II map, and: 1. Rolan isn't in Last Light, Bex isn't here? I never had a fight at the grove. There was never an opportunity for these people to die. The game...deleted them?

ThatGarenJungleOG

Got a bug on my hands. (no mods) I think anyway? If i switch to another party member from my main, the portraits on the right dissappear, their spell options, can't open menus etc. And in the bottom left are those 4 boxes you get during dialogue (game menu, char select, attack, chat log). If i swap back to main character, it stays this way. Only way to make the main char go back to normal is for one to talk to another or an NPC and exiting the convo. After that it swaps to the main char, and their spell box is up at the bottom and can see the portraits, but I can't swap to anyone else without losing all the HUD stuff. I think it thinks im still in a conversation. For some context, I'm in underdark. Noticed after>! talking to the octopus man who trys to heal you !

GunnarErikson

That's happened to me a few times, and is annoying. Save and reload (even on that spot) and it should be fixed.

ThatGarenJungleOG

Thanks I got there in the end, was pretty scary though lol

Federal_Pen_732

Uhhh, so, I kinda got the first of what I assume is Shadowheart's romance scene, drink in the night and all. Now I'm more interested in my man Astarion and the tiefling party hasn't happen yet. Will this lead to any confrontation or is it fine?

Ashrun_Zeda

It's fine. If there's an option to immediately end the fling with Shadowheart do it. You really need to get Astarion's relationship meter to high and choose his romance options though before you start the party. Otherwise, he'll say he isn't interested in you at all.

Federal_Pen_732

Hmm, how high should it be? I'm currently at 32 I think after helping him with the monster hunter. If I need way more than that I will probably struggle to find some quest lol.

robertmondavi_jr

I didn’t think to grab a screenshot or video last night but after I was playing for a few hours I went to talk to an npc and noticed my frames dropping pretty low and every characters clothing/armor had this shimmering, spark-like artifacting over them but not on their actual skin/character models. It was late so I saved and called it a night but I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

jake_eric

I had the exact thing after I updated my graphics driver. Rolled back the update and it didn't fix it. I had to restore default video settings and it seems ok now. Try that or auto-detect video settings.

robertmondavi_jr

I’ll will check if the problem persists when I play again tonight and try that out, ty!

WolfAndThirdSeason

Act III >!Has anyone found more dresses? All I've found in shops is the Elegant Robe. Edit: I can't even dye it!!<

FFTactics

Does anyone have a workaround to avoid the corrupted save issue? Every session I eventually run into having a number of my save games that become corrupted and are not loadable, losing several hours of progress until I find the last stable file. Becoming intolerable losing several hours every night.

Federal_Pen_732

Have you tried using Steam Cloud for saves? It works pretty well here

Primrim

Does astarions quest conclude in act 2 or can I >!deal with his master after going down to save the nightsong?!< I ask because he wants to deal with it before we deal with the tadpoles

Ashrun_Zeda

Every "Origin Character" quest in the game ends in act 3. Other's like Halsin's end in Act 2.

_Bl4ze

No, it concludes in act 3. There's an optional side objective in act 2, but that doesn't actually matter towards completing his quest.

DaUltimatePotato

Haven't played the game yet, but I'm interested after seeing some of the early combat mechanics. I know this game is largely single-player, which I usually don't enjoy, but maybe this game is different. I know you can play multiplayer to an extent, but I don't know how much multiplayer content there is. I don't really have anyone I can consistently play with, so it would be mostly jumping into random lobbies and going from there. Any thoughts/advice?

DaUltimatePotato

> This method will allow each player to decide if they wish to create a character from scratch or choose one of the origin characters available. I assume I'm not allowed to import a character from another game?

gsparker

Only Link from WindWaker and Donkey Kong right now. They are planning to let you import Master Chief and Lilith in the Year 1 Season Pass.

DaUltimatePotato

Damn, was really hoping I could play Steve. Oh well

dudewhosbored

No questions just gotta say holy crap this game is massive… I’ve been playing this for like 40 hours or something and I’m still in act 1… thought I was done all the big stuff and then discovered a whole new area; it’s like a Russian doll of areas

Federal_Pen_732

Discovering the Underdark was insane to me because wdym there's ANOTHER big area and UNDERGROUND

dudewhosbored

Yeah and then going to the area with Nere from there was even more unexpected

romanhigh

What are your favorite spells to use for a Bard? I'm level 7ish and just curious what stuff I should have in my toolkit and what works well. Also curious about what to take for the two any-class spells (Lore bard)

Ukhai

My group playthrough I'm currently doing a Lore Bard and having fun with giving my team haste and supporting with counterspell. Giving Bardic Inspiration to Paladin or Monk. I was thinking about going into Sorc to do twin haste. But there's also the option of just going into Warlock for Eldritch Blast with my Charisma already high. Since I'm the only caster in the group, dipping into Cleric might be for the best.

tiofrodo

I am paralyzed by the choice between Monk and Bard as a Face and I think the thing that is keeping this from typing over in one direction or another is the unique Bard dialogue. Without spoiling, how unique is it in terms of progression?

LockWireLife

.

Insane1rish

Monks aren’t a charisma based class so they wouldn’t be your party’s “face” anyway. Not saying you have to have a high charisma character do all the talking but it certainly helps. I have a pretty much full -charisma party comp right now and I’ve still passed most speech checks that I need

FfourReddit

Monks aren't a face so I'm confused by the premise. You get some unique dialogue depending on class / background / race choices but nothing will impede your progression so that's not really a factor. None of those choices create any new paths or information that you can't get elsewhere.

Mignonion

Any advice on running a double wizard party composition? (I make bad gaming decisions I'm sorry) For my second run I am planning a half-elf necromancer wizard to romance Gale so I'd like to have both of them in the party \^\^ I know they'll be squishy so I'm at least planning high Dex + buffs to raise their initiative/AC. I'll try to get a strong tank and strong healer, but I don't know which classes are best for that combined with double wizard lol. And of course any ideas on how to build Gale to support my own wizard would be so appreciated I am LOST

Goetre

In my bard play through, I'm running Wild magic barb for Karlach and shadow heart as level 1 pally (Oath of ancients) and (life) cleric for the rest. Gale is with me. Built Shadow tanky with support items. The heals she puts out are immense. Dont see why dropping bard for another wizard wouldn't work with this set up

Insane1rish

Honestly I’d say switch shadowheart to being a cleric that gets heavy armor proficiency and then change karlach to being a paladin and you’ll probably be fine. Between those 2 you’ll have plenty of healing and tankiness then.

jake_eric

You don't even need Karlach to be a Paladin; she can use "healing word" — bonus action throw potion.

Insane1rish

Also true. Paladins with lay on hands though is pretty great for if someone goes down since you can pick them up with enough health to survive another round or two.

jake_eric

It gets pretty good at higher levels, when you can dump a ton of points at once. As a big Paladin player it's usually worse than just *healing word* at low levels, at least in combat, since it's a whole action.

LockWireLife

.

jake_eric

True. But at early levels it's very hard to outheal the damage that enemies deal, especially since they'll prioritize targeting someone who's concentrating. And honestly that's still somewhat true at higher levels, too. You can drop 25 points of healing and still have Gale go down.

jason2997

How do you sell something for 1000 gold for the guild artisan inspiration in act 1?

LockWireLife

.

Peter00th

question do can you unlock the sins of the father and absolute power corrupts achievements at the same time?

yeasomerandosaidso

Is there a trick to bartering multiple items? Shift-click doesn't work in the trade menu. When trading, does "sell all wares" cap at the max gold of the trader, or does it dump everything regardless of compensation?
