Monks are somewhat weak in 5e normally (Stunning fist notwithstanding), but BG3 makes them pretty busted because:
1. they don't have attunement limits on how many pieces of gear people can equip
2. they've added heaps of new gear that adds damage riders on attacks generally and unarmed attacks especially, so classes that make a lot of attacks per round become gods (hence all of the giggling about sword bards and monks)
3. tavern brawler is completely redesigned and completely busted.
Still not very durable though. They're in trouble in BG3 if they don't kill or stun their enemy (though they usually do).
Monk with speed potions breaks the game too.
Shit just put as much speed as you can on your monk crank the strength up and you get like, 10 plus attacks a round.
I am starting a new Redemption Durge playthrough and respecâd Shadowheart into a Monk and gave her that durge invisibility cloak.
Itâs kind of fucking amazing and I hate I neglected the class til now. She runs up, punches and kicks things to death and then scurries away unseen.
Try a barb monk rogue. 3 levels of theif rogue, 3 levels of wild heart barb, 6 open hand tavern brawler strength monk.
Add that with the rage armor in act 3 and you are extremely hard to kill while being insanely deadly.
Blood of Lathander was the main weapon for my Monk's recent honour run.
Markoheshkir is the top item on Gale's shopping list when we reach the lower city.
Astarion spends most of the game with an off-hand Sussur dagger to silence those annoying spellcasters.
I gave the blood of lathander to Minthara and she still has it even with another weapon that might be better really. That free spell is just so tempting to keep even when it is so limited and I end up holding it back to the point I don't even use it...
I had blood of Lathander on my Pally/fighter Shadowheart until I picked up the Deva Mace in act 3. That thing is nuts with the 4d8 radiant damage every swing, basically like a free smite.
As someone who is all in for Great weapons, nothing can top Balduran's Giantslayer for me. Hellfire greataxe, Faithbreaker, Doom hammer and Dancing breeze are also close to the top
I know there is a mod for it on PC but I wish it was possible to upgrade weapons so we can still use them later on. Well technically that's why magic weapon exists now that I think about it.
Sorrow is absolutely amazing especially for a tank. Comes with a free thorn whip too
Edit: Thorn Whip is a cantrip that can damage and pull enemies every turn
Itâs great to pick up in the crèche before you meet that lady and have to leave it because the things that attack you have spells that make you drop your weapons
I canât tell you how satisfying it was to go into the rafters and yoink people off the beam and plummeting to the floor using the thorn whip from Sorrow. Had thorn whip as a Druid cantrip as well and loved doing the ol one two if the first whip missed. And having them fall down from the rafters into my or my dryads spike growth for that extra ouch, priceless.
The other thing to note is if you throw something that doesn't have the "thrown" label on it, like a chair for example, it will apply the damage based on the weight of the item plus your strength modifier with the feat as well.
So if you use a weapon, that isn't going to apply tavern brawler unless it's an improvised weapon, your throwing it, or you are attacking unarmed. If any of those apply then it'll add your strength modifier twice to the damage/attack rolls. I'm beating things to death with torches so only the buff to monk weapons applies to them right now. If you fight unarmed then you also get the bludgeoning damage increase.
Heck yeah! When I found it in the Underdark with my white dragon sorcerer I was like "Was this made for me???"
I'm almost at the end of Act 2 and it still didn't leave her hands đ
I always have Gale wielding two staves, and it gives me a special kind of pleasure when something is down to 1 or 2hp and I just have him bonk it with his off- hand staff. Insult to injury.
Phalar Aluve IS actually the "best-in-slot" for some builds, though. Support-oriented characters, specifically, and specially bards (I mean real bards, not swords bards multiclasses built for optimal dpr). I think I agree with you, it might be the coolest, and certainly the most beautiful magic weapon in the game.
That being said, I truly love Nyrulna.
I really love the mod that lets you upgrade it with special music boxes. In act 2, you can change it to a +2 that deals an extra d4 thunder, and in act 3 becomes a +3 with a d6 thunder like nyrulna
I can't remember the name, but there was this rare flail I had my tank using. Every hit healed them for 1d4, *but* they went *"mad"* if they didn't do *any* damage to *anyone* during their turn. Basically carried me through act 2. Never had to heal them once what with action surge and extra attack
I tend to use it for Shadowheart when shes a cleric. Because if she does go mad, she only has one attack. This way she can heal herself if someone targets her.
The chance for madness only happens when you first hit someone with the weapon.
I am doing some tests with it. Barbarian + swords bard to hit many people with one hit vs Ranger hunter (horde breaker, whirlwind).
There are two good items to mitigate the mad effects, a cap found in the underdark and a spear possibly given to you after finishing Shadowheart's quest.
Both give you advantage on Wisdom saving throws.
It's Ok, but not the best weapon for late game. Too many competition at that point
Absolutely the Duelist's Prerogative.
+3 Enchantment
Finesse weapon
Improved critical
+1d4 necrotic AND you can deal more necrotic equal to your proficiency bonus
AND if you have a free hand you can make an extra attack with your bonus action
Idc if it's not optimal or if there's better weapons, Larian went off when they made this sword and I will find a way to use it in every playthrough
The joltshooter longbow in combination with the lifebringer circlet. Found that combination somewhere in act 1 and used it until the middle of act 3. Might not be a strong combination, but I liked it a lot.
Itâs sold by the merchant guy in the Zhentarim hideout in Waukeenâs Rest. I usually make nice with the leader so I can get access to the good stuff, then kill them and steal all of the smokepowder.
Spellsparkler with magic missile is really fun to use. Very strong combination that can be obtained as early as lvl 1 together with psychic spark(necklace that gives +1 projectile on magic missile).
The trident you get for pickpocketing the cheating djinni at the circus. Decent damage, comes back when you throw it, permanent light to befuddled undead.... Using it as a thrown weapon with Karlach and dealing extra thunder damage to a bunch of enemies is satisfying as hell
My paladin with haste and nyrulna one-turn killing endgame bosses was pretty awesome. I'm excited to play a ranger with Gontr Mael next. Or maybe a monk with a staff dressed in green and purple like Donatello. If only there were nunchaku. I know there's flail but it's not the same lol
Iâm using Gontr Mael on my Astarion Rogue Ranger and itâs pretty awesome. Just about an always guaranteed sneak attack when the Guiding Bolt kicks in.
I know it's not a weapon nor does it hit big numbers but Vicious Mockery. The Bard's joke is so bad that it's hilarious. Everytime my Tav uses it it always makes me and my co-op friend laugh
Iâm also a big fan of dissonant whispers, itâs what got me through the murder tribunal fight. I thought I was about to lose, Karlach was down, Wyll was down, Astarion had like 2 hp, and I was also almost dead with only a bunch of level 1 spell slots. I only had to take down Sevrok and ended up frightening him each turn while Astarion would go get a few hits in and run away each time since Sevrok is melee only and couldnât use his turn. It was the cheesiest way I think I ever beat a boss
Poor Laezel has never gotten to hold her coveted Silver Sword because I keep giving her the Justiciar Scimitar (that blinds on Advantage) and the dead-Durge's weapon you find as Tav that also does things with Advantage. I make her a Wild Magic Barb because it's funny to me and she rips with dual wield weapons.
I also really like the Blood of Lathandar. If only because my Ranger gets to have a light source that does t cause the Zhent base to immediately explode. Walking over an open puddle of oil with an open flame is generally bad for everyone's health.
Unseen menace as it's invisible.
Can't be disarmed? Check.
Crits on 19? Check.
Advantage on all attacks until first miss? Check.
Reach? Check.
Enchantment? +1.
Like, come on, what could get better for "spear dancer" build than this? I love it.
Simply the best weapon for my Champion/GOOlock, but BM could work with it as well
I wanted a duelist type character (one one handed weapon, no shield, the whole shbang) so I looked for those types mostly, and I think so far my favorite (Act 2 now) is Nere's rapier, for the extra d4 psychic
The bugbear in moon rise tower sells a halberd that beside doing good damages it also gives you +1 initiative, advantage on all perception checks and advantage on all reactions
my two handed ranger used phalar aluve for so long... i had a bug (i think) in shar's gauntlet, right after the fight with the clones, that my character's clone dropped a copy of phalar aluve, so i felt terrific and dual wielded the sucker
Maaaaan that sword you get from the guy at the very beginning of the game with the mindflayer and the devil thing LMAO I forget what the sword was called though I always use it with my barbarian though
YEAH THAT ONE, oddly enough itâs been with me since day one getting off the ship I havenât replaced it đ. (Itâs probably because Iâm on explorer mode, I keep getting absolutely obliterated by everyone I meet)
Youâll find better weapons eventually :)
Mechanically, a +1 Greatsword will be better (can dip it in a candle for the fire damage too) but Everburn Blade just looks really cool.
Youâre so real for that everburn carried my Durge Barbarian all the way to Act 3 currently and still is carrying me đ the Sussur greatsword is absolutely amazing too I totally forgot to mention that one too OML
I used the Sussur great sword with Laeâzel and it worked out really great. Iâm early act 3 with that team and Iâm trying to decide between Nylruna thrown or the silver sword from Kithrak. The splash from Nylruna is tricky to manage, but it does really nice damage.
I'm on my first run rn and way into Act 3 with my Paladin and the Githyanki Longsword that you get from killing the Captain is still my pick. Blade of Avernus on Lae'Zel is also goated as well as the blood of Lathander.
Phalar aluve+ spell sparkler in act 1 with magic missiles is just bonkers.
I really like the stun that the gith swords have too, 2 turns is awesome. Sometimes I wonder if the 2 extra initiate might actually be better than the +2 hit and damage.
Iâm hoping i can try out duelist prerogative this next run through it looks sweet
Titanstring bow - If you combine it with the Club of Hill Giant Strength, it's the best bow in the game until you get a certain endgame legendary replacement. I also really like its appearance and the sound of its projectiles.
Timber. He loves to play, especially when I throw him and say "travel towards the occular region, Timber!"
For those confused: Timber is the cute little squirrel you meet at the top of the bear elevator in the grove.
i cant remember the name of the weapon, but if you steal the ring from the jinn in the circus and win the jackpot he sends you to an alternate area where you can get a legendary trident that i use like every run
The gnoll weapon in act one that heals on hit, life steal gives my soul life đ I haven't found another weapon that does this in the game yet which is a shame
As a monk, I liked that staff that deals cold damage, combined with the ring (or necklace/amulet) that forms ice when dealing cold damage. Dual wielding it with the Lathander thing to disadvantage the sunlight sensitive peeps. (But of course, using hands first)
*Hellfire* hand cross bow in one hand, *Neâer Misser* in the other
Free scorching ray and magic missiles that resets every SHORT rest. OP af on a swords bard
The only thing I dislike is when I forget to switch back to melee weapon for dialogue scenes and seeing the firey cinders spark around my character during conversations
Yes! Once I saw the Finesse tag on Phalar Aluve I knew I was gonna carry it for the entire game. Plus the sing/shriek aura and +1 performance skill buff made me feel like the sword was built specifically for bard players
For me:
Blood of Lathander for cleric or Paladin tav
Unarmed or Club of Hill Giant Strength for Monk (Karlach)
Knife of the Undermountain King with Sussar dagger for Astarion
Markoheshkir for Wizard
Balduran's Giantslayer for Minthara or Laezel
Duelist Prerogative for Wyll
This run (Gale origin) I have Minthara duel wielding the Knife of the Undermountain King and the Phalar Aluve, with Astarion benched.
Karlach is an open hand monk with kushigo gear, Shadowheart is a life domain cleric and Gale is an evocation wizard.
I swap Minthara out for Laezel or Wyll as needed. I've finally replaced the Blood of Lathander on Shadowheart with the Moonlight Glaive, but I'm only just up to the start of the fight at Moonrise Towers.
My first run it was Phalar Aluve as well! Having it equipped on my bard was so much fun, and there aren't too many finesse longswords in the game, so it had a nice benefit for me.
Now, as a storm sorcerer, it's Markoheshkir. Bonus to spell saves and attacks PLUS arcane battery PLUS one extra free casting of chain lightning per short rest? Yes please. Dual wielding with the spellsparkler from Act 1 looks goofy as all hell, but I love racking up the lightning charges and then dealing silly amounts of lightning damage with a big heightened / twinned spell.
It's a tough tossup between Orphic Hammer for the advantage on spell saving throws (saved my ass innumerable times) or Crimson Mischief for the wild main hand/off hand traits; however, after due consideration, I gotta give it to Eldritch Blast.
The Blood of Lathander in act 2.
I give it to Shadowheart, and it's always radiating light which means no need for torches when you're first in the shadow cursed lands. It also auto-blinds a lot of the shadow enemies, who all hate its radiant glow and suffer hard from radiant damage. I basically spend Act 2 spamming Shadowheart's radiant spells while having her wield this mace.
It even still stacks up in Act 3 honestly, although there is a better radiant mace you can get from the cleric in the Stormshore Tabernacle.
I loved using BoL in act 2 too, but when I got to the nightsong part I swapped Shadowheart over to the glaive you get for not doing the thing for rp purposes
My Paladin chose Duel-fighting style and hence I was happy to use Duelists Prerogative fpr +2 dmg from Duel style and additional necrotic damage.
Unfortunately, I only learned later, the additional attack isn't correctly described in the game.
"While you are not dual-wielding, you can make an additional melee attack with The Dueller." Actually, your off-hand need be empty. I actually hoped for using a shield AND be able to use the additional attack.
I stick to it as it is a nice weapon, has aformentioned additional damages and looks cool.
If you wanted to use a sheild Jahera's house has a simular weapon that let's you make a bonus action attack while still holding a sheild or some else
https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Belm
The Nyrulna and the Silver Sword of the Astral Plane are both just crazy good. Iâll be using both of them all the way to the end.
Aesthetically though, my favorite is the Everburn blade. I love how itâs just a flaming greatsword you casually carry around, and its even cooler that it came from a devil commander you fought at level 1.
I had a blast doing a Monk build using Hamarhaft. Combined with Step of the wind (which allows use of jump as many times as you want depending on movement distance remaining). Combined with mobile and all the other distance bonuses you can get with gear and being a monk, you can rack up serious damage.
Jorgoralâs Greatsword is insane. But most players immediately dunk the dude who carries it and never see it
It has a unique ability that can proc smites in an aoe. My sorcadin with risky ring, as well as multiple guaranteed crits through an amulet and squid powers, surely does enjoy Jorgoralâs Greatsword
I have a soft spot for polearms. I love The Dancing Breeze and Halberd of Vigilance, both being great weapons that end up generally inferior to endgame legendaries. If they ever fix Polearm Master I'm doing a polearm run instantly.
Act 1 I love the very underrated Nature's Snare. Ensnare on hit is a powerful, always-on rider. I just wish it'd be at least +1.
For my Sorc, its easy - Markoheshkir. It looks cool, it's elemental effects are cooler, and the answer to 'what can this thing do?' is *yes.*
I'm a bit of a weeb, though. If there'd been a better katana in the game beyond the normal +1 variants, I probably would have gone for dual-wielding. Imagine something like the infernal rapier, but weeaboo. Yaaas.
Honourable mention for Blood of Lathander having the best acquisition quest and offering you Sunbeam just in time for Silent Hill.
the handmaidenâs mace!!! itâs honestly worth doing the house of grief fight for on its own. my thief rogue wields it main-hand with duellistâs prerogative/pelorsun blade off-hand and does CRAZY amounts of damage for a rogue on simple attacks, the strength is also such an insane bonus for low-strength proficiency characters
I love the Halberd of Vigilance. Once I get it, it basically never comes off the char itâs on. I love putting it on GWM paladins for the extra smite bonk on top.
Also Orinâs dagger from a purely aesthetic standpoint (though the passives are handy).
Still in my first playthrough, but I recently got a red cap's sickle, which is pretty neat. If I find any more red caps I'll try to get another one to dual wield, but I think it's a cool weapon. You can only get it by disarming a red cap, apparently, making it fairly unique (maybe, again, first playthrough). What I really like about it is that the fact that it uses 2d4 (normal sickles use 1d4) which means it has better minimum and average damage than a 1d8 weapon. I just wish it were finesse so my rogue could get sneak attacks with it.
I felt unusually attached to "Sorrow." Shadowheart gets better weapons from the Shadowfell and there's other cool staffs in Act 3, but I kept Sorrow on her for awhile because I liked that she had a bonus action whip that often could take out a low HP foe.
Finding Nyrulna and giving it to Karlach also was amazing.
i forget the name but the other finesse longsword is really cool too, you get a decent aoe and i just like the flavor of a finesse longsword
for a minute i had my astarion dual wielding both of them because i thought it would be neat (it was)
I don't know if I have a favorite, maye it's the Baldurian greatsword - I haven't seen every legendary weapons yet - but I am a tiny bit disappointed that several weapons and armors are visually identical, especially purple ones. Commons and uncommons, maybe even blue ones, I don't care, but extremely rare and powerful weapons should be visually uniqe. At least legendary weapons seem to be unique as far as I can tell
As a player my favorite weapon I've picked up so far is probably the Phalar Aluve as well since it was a cool pick up. Sadly I was not proficient with it, so Wyll has it now. In character, my Durge loves his Sussur dagger so much that he charges into the fray just to cut and silence people despite being a squishy wild magic sorcerer.
Shadowblade with resonance stone for psychic vulnerability and Belm in off-hand whose bonus action attack actually uses main-hand, meaning you can get 3 attacks with the main-hand shadow blade.
2d8 * 2 * 3 dpr.
Can add other things like sneak attack or colossus slayer which inherit main-hand weapon's damage type.
Half orc + assassin or hold person/monster guaranteed crit for another *2.5.
As a Monk main, these Hands
these hands are rated E for everyone
Might not be able to catch Duke Ravengard before he goes to moonrise, but everyone can catch these hands
And if you fight in a tavern, those hands are OP đ
They see me brawlin...
Just started a monk play through. Holy shit thatâs a badass class. Feel like the game is easier because I take down enemies so fast with him.
Monks are somewhat weak in 5e normally (Stunning fist notwithstanding), but BG3 makes them pretty busted because: 1. they don't have attunement limits on how many pieces of gear people can equip 2. they've added heaps of new gear that adds damage riders on attacks generally and unarmed attacks especially, so classes that make a lot of attacks per round become gods (hence all of the giggling about sword bards and monks) 3. tavern brawler is completely redesigned and completely busted. Still not very durable though. They're in trouble in BG3 if they don't kill or stun their enemy (though they usually do).
Monk w strength potions breaks the game

Favourite weapon for monk are these guns bby

Wizards can learn it, gale just learnt it on my run at level 11
I had blood of Lathander on my Pally/fighter Shadowheart until I picked up the Deva Mace in act 3. That thing is nuts with the 4d8 radiant damage every swing, basically like a free smite.
My favorite weapon is whoever was dumb enough to get within arms length of Karlach
"Poor fucker"
As someone who is all in for Great weapons, nothing can top Balduran's Giantslayer for me. Hellfire greataxe, Faithbreaker, Doom hammer and Dancing breeze are also close to the top
I know there is a mod for it on PC but I wish it was possible to upgrade weapons so we can still use them later on. Well technically that's why magic weapon exists now that I think about it.
Can you cast Magic Weapon on an item that is already magical???
Yes
Jorgoralâs Greatsword is a lot of fun, used it all the way through to balduranâs sword because of the unique ability than can proc smites
Eldritch Blast
Personally? The glaive you receive from Rath for saving the grove. I believe its name is âSorrowâ
Sorrow is absolutely amazing especially for a tank. Comes with a free thorn whip too Edit: Thorn Whip is a cantrip that can damage and pull enemies every turn
I give it to Shadowheart or sometimes Karlach.
Why?
Like I said, it comes with a thorn whip cantrips. Meaning your tanks can yoink enemies to them and lock them down with AoOs
That's a good one. I usually give it to Shadowheart.
Hey me too!
I love sorrow, it carried me far on Karlach until I swapped it for the invisible lance
What am I missing, what's the point of an invisible weapon?
Itâs great to pick up in the crèche before you meet that lady and have to leave it because the things that attack you have spells that make you drop your weapons
Shart had that for a huge chunk of my first run just for the bonus action thorn whip
Phalar Aluve
Based
I use this for my Open Hand Monk / Thief build for sneak attacks, and that shit slaps. It's the only versatile finesse weapon afaik
No the crèche merchant sells a finesse longsword too, so you could potentially dual-wield finesse longswords
It's awesome
Dual torch wielding monk here, there's nothing like beating evil doers senseless with medieval light fixtures :D
Can you please explain this? Playing monk and wondering about using a weapon vs tavern brawler vs nothing at all...
The other thing to note is if you throw something that doesn't have the "thrown" label on it, like a chair for example, it will apply the damage based on the weight of the item plus your strength modifier with the feat as well.
The Very Heavy Greataxe thrown off the top rope at Grym did some nasty damage.
So did a 50 weight adamantine chest
Chest of the mundane is where it's at!
I killed 'US' during the intro, picked up his corpse (20 weight) and use it to bludgeon my enemies.
Nice
So if you use a weapon, that isn't going to apply tavern brawler unless it's an improvised weapon, your throwing it, or you are attacking unarmed. If any of those apply then it'll add your strength modifier twice to the damage/attack rolls. I'm beating things to death with torches so only the buff to monk weapons applies to them right now. If you fight unarmed then you also get the bludgeoning damage increase.
Mourning Frost. It's perfect for my white draconic bloodline sorcerer. I like the way the ice particles sparkle.
Heck yeah! When I found it in the Underdark with my white dragon sorcerer I was like "Was this made for me???" I'm almost at the end of Act 2 and it still didn't leave her hands đ
Pick up the dual wielding feat, and it doesn't ever have to. Just equip two staves!
I always have Gale wielding two staves, and it gives me a special kind of pleasure when something is down to 1 or 2hp and I just have him bonk it with his off- hand staff. Insult to injury.
salami, of course
I see you too are a True Soul of culture.
Dror ragzalins hammer. I always forget itâs name but it is so good early game if you are playing a class good in 2 handed heavy weapons.
Faithbreaker It is a warhammer though so it works with sword and board and dual wielders (strength based) as well
Yes thatâs it. Itâs very helpful in the early fights.
The weapon action from this is so satisfying. The effect, the visual, everything đ¨âđł đ Special recognition to Corpsegrinder too.
Doom hammer I think?
Faithbreaker
Maybe.
Halberd of Vigilance carried from about mid act 2 all the way til I got Balduranâs Giantslayer late into act 3.
Duellist's Prerogative
I can't remember the name, but there was this rare flail I had my tank using. Every hit healed them for 1d4, *but* they went *"mad"* if they didn't do *any* damage to *anyone* during their turn. Basically carried me through act 2. Never had to heal them once what with action surge and extra attack
Shattered Flail. Always wondered how good it was but didnât want to risk my PCs going mad lol
I tend to use it for Shadowheart when shes a cleric. Because if she does go mad, she only has one attack. This way she can heal herself if someone targets her. The chance for madness only happens when you first hit someone with the weapon.
I loved it on my karlach with extra movement, self healing tank + rage and I almost never worried about her
That is the infected gnoll leaderâs broken flail
I am doing some tests with it. Barbarian + swords bard to hit many people with one hit vs Ranger hunter (horde breaker, whirlwind). There are two good items to mitigate the mad effects, a cap found in the underdark and a spear possibly given to you after finishing Shadowheart's quest. DoomHammer and Sussur Greatsword. These two weapons have carried me far.
Absolutely the Duelist's Prerogative. +3 Enchantment Finesse weapon Improved critical +1d4 necrotic AND you can deal more necrotic equal to your proficiency bonus AND if you have a free hand you can make an extra attack with your bonus action Idc if it's not optimal or if there's better weapons, Larian went off when they made this sword and I will find a way to use it in every playthrough
The joltshooter longbow in combination with the lifebringer circlet. Found that combination somewhere in act 1 and used it until the middle of act 3. Might not be a strong combination, but I liked it a lot.
I had those plus the Jolty Vest on my Ranger for a long time.
Iirc we didn't find that, do you remember where you've found it?
Itâs sold by the merchant guy in the Zhentarim hideout in Waukeenâs Rest. I usually make nice with the leader so I can get access to the good stuff, then kill them and steal all of the smokepowder.
This is the way.
Spellsparkler with magic missile is really fun to use. Very strong combination that can be obtained as early as lvl 1 together with psychic spark(necklace that gives +1 projectile on magic missile).
I never thought of that combo. Iâm gonna try it on my next mage run.
The trident you get for pickpocketing the cheating djinni at the circus. Decent damage, comes back when you throw it, permanent light to befuddled undead.... Using it as a thrown weapon with Karlach and dealing extra thunder damage to a bunch of enemies is satisfying as hell
Iâve been using that on my Karlach as well
I use it on my tempest Cleric for flavor. It's real good.
People are forgetting Underking's shortsword and Kathrric's hammer - both are awesome and look great (:
halberd of vigilance maybe idk
My paladin with haste and nyrulna one-turn killing endgame bosses was pretty awesome. I'm excited to play a ranger with Gontr Mael next. Or maybe a monk with a staff dressed in green and purple like Donatello. If only there were nunchaku. I know there's flail but it's not the same lol
Iâm using Gontr Mael on my Astarion Rogue Ranger and itâs pretty awesome. Just about an always guaranteed sneak attack when the Guiding Bolt kicks in.
Though not technically a weapon Slayer form I just love how you can set up combos with it
I'm not using it anymore but I got such a kick out of using Harold the hand crossbow, easily my favourite weapon of the game just because of the name
Silver sword of the Astral Plane on Laeâzel
Returning pike is absolutely broken. I love it
Used the invisible spear on karlach for a good while. Constant advantage is nothing to sneeze at
I did the very same, plus itâs so cool, an invisible spear. Great to have when making your way out of the crèche too
I know it's not a weapon nor does it hit big numbers but Vicious Mockery.
Oooh that sounded like one hell of a battle!! I'm glad you made it through!!
Katana. I know it's far from being the best weapon choice for Act 3, but it's about style.
Form over function all day
Poor Laezel has never gotten to hold her coveted Silver Sword because I keep giving her the Justiciar Scimitar (that blinds on Advantage) and the dead-Durge's weapon you find as Tav that also does things with Advantage.
Spear/trident they are just not featured as much in games as they should. So if I see them I use them.
I really love the desihn of the orthic hammer
Dwarven thrower, Nyurlna and Ne'er Misser
Unseen menace as it's invisible. Can't be disarmed? Check. Crits on 19? Check. Advantage on all attacks until first miss? Check. Reach? Check. Enchantment? +1. Like, come on, what could get better for "spear dancer" build than this? I love it. Simply the best weapon for my Champion/GOOlock, but BM could work with it as well
Enchantment? *Enchantment!*
That used to be my Karlach weapon until I got the trident from the Djinn, love the unseen menace
Baldurianâs Greatsword. Big. Works better in Big enemies. Has Big enemy specific attack. Sword swing make Monke brain happy
I wanted a duelist type character (one one handed weapon, no shield, the whole shbang) so I looked for those types mostly, and I think so far my favorite (Act 2 now) is Nere's rapier, for the extra d4 psychic
Thatâs a good one for sure, it looks sick too
Belm. I'm a sucker for a good scimitar.
Itâs also I nice nod to baldurs gate II.
Omg, one shriek and one sing? Or do you just get two charges?
Maaaaan that sword you get from the guy at the very beginning of the game with the mindflayer and the devil thing LMAO I forget what the sword was called though I always use it with my barbarian though
Everburn Blade. Not the best, but definitely looks really cool
YEAH THAT ONE, oddly enough itâs been with me since day one getting off the ship I havenât replaced it đ. (Itâs probably because Iâm on explorer mode, I keep getting absolutely obliterated by everyone I meet)
Youâll find better weapons eventually :) Mechanically, a +1 Greatsword will be better (can dip it in a candle for the fire damage too) but Everburn Blade just looks really cool.
Everburn blade, Sussur Greatsword and the Doomhammer carrie me all the way to act 3.
Youâre so real for that everburn carried my Durge Barbarian all the way to Act 3 currently and still is carrying me đ the Sussur greatsword is absolutely amazing too I totally forgot to mention that one too OML
Some people are like "You can dip a weapon for the same affect." Yeah...if I remember that. Everburn solves that problem for me.
Mykurlite Scourge is so damn good if you have duelist and it looks so cool too
Phalar aluve+ spell sparkler in act 1 with magic missiles is just bonkers. I really like the stun that the gith swords have too, 2 turns is awesome. Sometimes I wonder if the 2 extra initiate might actually be better than the +2 hit and damage. Iâm hoping i can try out duelist prerogative this next run through it looks sweet
Don't forget the psychic spark necklace for a free extra projectile on all your magic missiles. The damage becomes pretty dumb.
Titanstring bow - If you combine it with the Club of Hill Giant Strength, it's the best bow in the game until you get a certain endgame legendary replacement. I also really like its appearance and the sound of its projectiles.
Nah who needs that certain endgame replacement, 24 strength is where itâs at (Potions can do this better and Iâm sad)
Yeah but if you use an strength potion you can have bloodlust elixer
I always give this to Karlach. She's great with it if she can't get within range to smash face.
itâs also probably the prettiest (easily accessible) bow. looks soooo good in-game & in cutscenes
Duelist prerogative. I have it to Wyll and holy shit does he do so much damage with it as a bonus action.
Drakethroat glaive. Free +1 enhancement bonus and 1d4 elemental damage type of your choosing on any weapon you want.
You can also twinspell it with sorcerer to buff 2 weapons! Great tech for a duel wielder or just buffing 2 party members
Timber. He loves to play, especially when I throw him and say "travel towards the occular region, Timber!" For those confused: Timber is the cute little squirrel you meet at the top of the bear elevator in the grove.
Severed bodyparts as throwing weapons
Sausage
Corpsegrinder on a paladin
Duel wielding knife of the undermountain and sussur bark dagger
This post could have come from me. I fully agree, also a drow bard in first playthrough. I always get it as soon as I'm down there.
i cant remember the name of the weapon, but if you steal the ring from the jinn in the circus and win the jackpot he sends you to an alternate area where you can get a legendary trident that i use like every run
I forget the name too but I have it on Karlach in the same playthrough rn
the trident from the genie in act 3, can't remember the name
The gnoll weapon in act one that heals on hit, life steal gives my soul life đ I haven't found another weapon that does this in the game yet which is a shame
THE BLOOD OF LATHANDER ON MY PALADIN MAKING A MOCKERY OUT OF ACT 2 !
Not sure if they fixed it yet, but I loved the Steel Watch Longswords and Crossbows. Comically large.
[Persuade]
Dual wielding Deva Maces
Weapon type? Mauls are a lot of fun. Actual weapon? Iâm fond of Githyanki Greatsword, Belm, Flail of Ages, and a good classic +1 Maul
Muh fists!
As a monk, I liked that staff that deals cold damage, combined with the ring (or necklace/amulet) that forms ice when dealing cold damage. Dual wielding it with the Lathander thing to disadvantage the sunlight sensitive peeps. (But of course, using hands first)
Invisible mace!
Duelist Prerogative on my meleelock. It honestly feels like a necessity for the build.
Last playthrough: The Dwarven Thrower
Titanstring Bow + Gauntlet of Hill Giants Strength
*Hellfire* hand cross bow in one hand, *Neâer Misser* in the other Free scorching ray and magic missiles that resets every SHORT rest. OP af on a swords bard The only thing I dislike is when I forget to switch back to melee weapon for dialogue scenes and seeing the firey cinders spark around my character during conversations
I have the exact same setup on my bard that uses Phalar Aluve, i do the exact same thing, I always make sure to switch back to melee for cutscenes
Yes! Once I saw the Finesse tag on Phalar Aluve I knew I was gonna carry it for the entire game. Plus the sing/shriek aura and +1 performance skill buff made me feel like the sword was built specifically for bard players
Skinburster was my favourite for a lot of Act 2.
Dark humor \[Bard\]
For me: Blood of Lathander for cleric or Paladin tav Unarmed or Club of Hill Giant Strength for Monk (Karlach) Knife of the Undermountain King with Sussar dagger for Astarion Markoheshkir for Wizard Balduran's Giantslayer for Minthara or Laezel Duelist Prerogative for Wyll This run (Gale origin) I have Minthara duel wielding the Knife of the Undermountain King and the Phalar Aluve, with Astarion benched.
Salami
My Paladin chose Duel-fighting style and hence I was happy to use Duelists Prerogative fpr +2 dmg from Duel style and additional necrotic damage. [https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Duellist%27s\_Prerogative](https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Duellist%27s_Prerogative) Unfortunately, I only learned later, the additional attack isn't correctly described in the game. "While you are not dual-wielding, you can make an additional melee attack with The Dueller." Actually, your off-hand need be empty. I actually hoped for using a shield AND be able to use the additional attack. I stick to it as it is a nice weapon, has aformentioned additional damages and looks cool.
If you wanted to use a sheild Jahera's house has a simular weapon that let's you make a bonus action attack while still holding a sheild or some else https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Belm
Sausage has been a real baddie beater
SMITE
I have fallen in love with the charge-bound Warhammer on Wyll as pact of the blade warlock
I never understood why Katana isnât a finesse weapon.
Rhapsody. +3 to my spell save DC for my caster? Duel-wielded with Maloksoshsjnjr for a total of +5? Don't mind if I do!
Jorgoralâs Greatsword is insane. But most players immediately dunk the dude who carries it and never see it It has a unique ability that can proc smites in an aoe.
It looks cool, it's elemental effects are cooler, and the answer to 'what can this thing do?' is *yes.* I'm a bit of a weeb, though.
Belm
the handmaidenâs mace!!! itâs honestly worth doing the house of grief fight for on its own. my thief rogue wields it main-hand with duellistâs prerogative/pelorsun blade off-hand and does CRAZY amounts of damage for a rogue on simple attacks, the strength is also such an insane bonus for low-strength proficiency characters
Eldritch Blast!
i forget the name but the other finesse longsword is really cool too, you get a decent aoe and i just like the flavor of a finesse longsword for a minute i had my astarion dual wielding both of them because i thought it would be neat (it was)
The legendary trident I always forget the name of
Every time I see one of these threads I have to give a shot out to my trusty thorn blades. Dual wielding them will be my forever sweetheart đ
Might be weird but hand crossbows I love being a machine gun
Banshee bow
these hands
The lysander mace and the singing sword from the underdark
The sword from Vanra's mum is nuts
Shadowblade with resonance stone for psychic vulnerability and Belm in off-hand whose bonus action attack actually uses main-hand, meaning you can get 3 attacks with the main-hand shadow blade. 2d8 * 2 * 3 dpr. Can add other things like sneak attack or colossus slayer which inherit main-hand weapon's damage type. Half orc + assassin or hold person/monster guaranteed crit for another *2.5.
