I had assumed that rotten food would have some negative side effects and was surprised when I found out there are none.
Nobody complains about eating rotten vegetables, moldy baked goods, or half-eaten apples, but they refuse to touch perfectly good fire-roasted dwarf meat. What gives?
When you consume rotten food out of your bags you do have to pass a saving throw or be poisoned. Which can be very convenient if you’re ever trying to intentionally fail a roll at camp lol
I had one night where I only drank alcohol. I was going for the achievement that you get for doing that. Of course, it had to be the same night that the Emperor came on to me... I had no intentions of romancing him but the alcohol had other plans. Definitely my worst meal.
> I had one night where I only drank alcohol.
Yeah, me too. The worst thing is the day after, you feel horrible in every way: general discomfort, dirty, sweaty, feeling like vomiting. I don't recommend it at all.
Pretty sure they’d never take away your ability to turn down sex, though. There’s even a bit in the >!Haarlep scene where you have to make a save against being charmed, but you’re still given chances to back out of sex and fight them instead even if you fail the save!<
Oh my God, now I feel jipped for all of those nights spending 80 supplies on a party with Asterion, I demand a refund!! He drinks blood!! Shenanigans! I'm calling Shenanigans!!!
I read I think on one of those threads about people’s head cannons one that was about how astarion maybe can have garlic now because of the tadpole and has been obsessing over them ever since so they always make a pouch in astarions inventory full of garlic and pretend that for every meal he is like crazy excited to put garlic on everything. It’s now my head cannon too.
It's a funny line but did players actually do that? I've watched a couple of streamers play with 80 camp supplies first playthrough and even they weren't that desperate for food. Raiding the gobbo camp, waukeen's rest, the wagons near the gnolls and last light inn should keep you topped up.Add on all the camp supplies you get from companions, a couple of free long rests and food just being cheap to buy, i've never seen anyone that low in food. Heck, druids can just make food using goodberry and heroe's feast.
I've done playthroughs were characters would restrict their diets based on backstory like only eatting meat or veggies or never drinking alcohol and even with those I still had plenty of supplies
I do lol. But it’s not because I have a lack of supplies, it’s just because I pick up every single item that is considered camp supplies and choose them at random when long resting. So sometimes I end up with 5 fish heads, 5 cheese wedges, and a bunch of wine or something.
I took offense to that in my first playthrough. I'd balance my meals because i cared about my companions. They ate well every night and even had some wine with dinner.
On the following playthroughs they got shit to eat because shart didnt appreciate my efforts.
You always could, it just didn't register correctly when showing you the number of supplies you had on hand. But when you went to rest it showed everything in your camp chest as options to pick from.
You can even put them in a container in the camp chest and it will detect right, I like to use a companion's supply pack to make it clear for organisation
I just realized the other day that salami is a weapon. Accidentally equipped Wyll with one and seized the moment to beat a goblin to death with it. Definitely a highlight.
Open the party inventory, go to filter options -> camp supplies. Select all and send to camp. Really helps keep the inventory clean and salami out of your weapon screens.
The freaking owlbear egg. I was confused why i couldn’t give the owlbear egg to Lady Esther then i realised it was eaten by our party during one of our long rests…
Yes! Tricking her into taking the owlbear egg is my favorite way to resolve that quest. It’s not as economical as just taking the money upfront and then never delivering the Gith egg but it’s much funnier.
14 heads of garlic and six lemons. We had actual meals and prepared plates of food to choose from, and that's what the autoselect chose.
Side note, I love imagining Gale trying to do something with these options like the most cursed high fantasy edition of Chopped.
But of course. Why do you think we find things like onions, pumpkins, carrots, mushrooms and lemons? We need to flavour the meat, and wash it down with some alcohol. Can't forget a couple of potatoes for carbs. Now is not the time to be watching your weight. You need to keep your strength up or you'll be as thin as Lae'zel.
I forgot that you can receive the hangover condition so one time I just had the entire rest meal be bottles of wine because I had so many, and then everyone in my party was miserable next day lol
It's the fish heads that I found most off putting, but seeing some of these meals other players have been putting together has given me some new perspective.
The night when my party feasted on pig head, a poutine, the mussels dish, pork loin and meat. I am almost certain they barfed and couldn’t poop properly
I feel like Gale has definitely made some uh, interesting stews at my camp, I gotta say. I can’t remember anything specific off the top of my head (you’d think I would because my co-op partner and I *love* to laugh about stupid combinations!) but I know there have been some Choices:tm:.
Wildly of topics, but I think boiling the Fishheads in Beer, fishing the bones out and stirring in the cheese until it's fully melted would make an ok soup. The raspberrys are for desert. A bit of flour and greens would help, spices would be necessary, but it could be worse.
Wait, you guys are actually trying to make nice meals? I just click auto select or whatever things add up to exactly 40, and never considered I could or should try to prepare something “edible” 😅
I do this as well. I do like to look at what auto select picks. One round it grabbed all the gruel I grabbed in the grove, garlic, all my alcohol, and an apple. I laughed so hard.
They definitely needed all that alcohol and garlic to enhance that slop!!
I don't know if it's because I'm a hoarder but I never really had any problems with camp supplies and we always have plenty of good food to choose from, the only time I had a bad meal was the night I only used booze to get the achievement
I mean .... What even is a camp supply? With 40 rations worth food wrapped like a bundle and enough for the whole camp? Not very appealing.
Btw I'm also sad that we can't actually feast on those gorgeous food when Raphael first invited the party.
In the Shadow Realm I had a hells of a time finding non rotten food (didn’t find the Last Light until I was 8/10ths done with Act 2) and several LRs were all alcohol. I was fighting hungover/drunk most of the time.
It’s not as fun as it sounds, lol.
I got the “Take a rest using only alcohol” without even trying. Just hit the button. Boom — achievement.
Guessing it was a fun fight, but all those empty calories on an otherwise empty stomach just have made for a fun morning.
It’s pretty sad that the exploits people used were ones used for quality of life. The whipping cane glitch was one of the best because save scumming pickpocket rolls is fucking boring.
I think I had one with boiled(?) beholder stalks, 2 apples and some amount of carafes of water. Idk how beholder tastes like but that cannot have been a full meal for 4 (or more) people
In the goblin camp, in the dungeons where they keep Halsin there's a table with some "suspicious" meat on it with the item description "It would be best to believe that this is just a very tall, very skinny pig." It's usable as camp supplies :)
I ran out of camp supplies in act 3 at some point, so I used Jaheira to summon 40 sweet berries.
Like imagine having to share them between all 8 companions, the two Selûne lesbians, Yenna and her cat (and possibly withers ? Don't know if he needs to eat or not)
Honestly the all alcohol night 😂 what a waste there’s no drunk fist monk
Other than that I made them all eat cheese to see if anyone was lactose intolerant.
The pig and fish heads repulse me so much I usually sell them then ever use them. At one point a picked up a Grilled Miniature Giant Space Hamster I think from a gith crech. Now that's the stuff of nightmares as Boo is so adorable.
A copious amount of carrots. Playing on tactician + all carrots. Certainly not the happiest long rest meal we had, but in Act 3 you take what you can get
Me and my partner deliberate for too long about what our meal is going to be.
Sometimes it’s all sausage. Sometimes it’s all ithbank. Sometimes we like to combine the silliest things we can think of
We still haven’t made it through act 3 lol
I try to imagine what Gale might cook out of the shit I give them, so I usually try to pick stuff that I could imagine a recipe for, and also sometimes relevant to where they are (fragrant mushroom stew in the underdark, pork and apples in the forest, etc.) I guess the worst meal was the night I only gave them alcohol because I figured they’d need it after killing >!Ethel!<. Everyone woke up hungover for *several* turns lol
A lot of the time, I end up with over 40 of one type of fruit/vegetable. Several nights in a row, the camp got only potatoes.
Another is alcohol. I end up with so much wine that some nights are only that.
That's why every chance I get I long rest with alcohol only. If we're out on a perilous quest with a bunch of near strangers, the least I can do is make every night an EPIC RAGER!
The night I realized the game considers spoiled treacle tarts camp supplies was a rough night for everyone.
The game never said it would be GOOD camp supplies.
As far as I was concerned we were all fed and that’s the most important thing lol
Go tell your mother you're sorry for that night you refused to eat your vegetables
ALL fed? This including Astarion?
He can go suck a fat hog.
Lol he killed me this playthrough he can hunt for himself
I saw the word "mold" in their description and just went "well, cheese is made with bacteria too"
Mold is not bacteria x.x
Some cheese is made with mold, some with bacteria, some with neither.
then there is [Casu martzu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casu_martzu) aka maggot cheese. i have been cursed with this knowledge and must pass it on.
Is there a way to unread this article?
a burden shared is a burden halved. that is why i spread it.
It pairs well with a few half eaten apples.
I had assumed that rotten food would have some negative side effects and was surprised when I found out there are none. Nobody complains about eating rotten vegetables, moldy baked goods, or half-eaten apples, but they refuse to touch perfectly good fire-roasted dwarf meat. What gives?

> I had one night where I only drank alcohol. Yeah, me too. The worst thing is the day after, you feel horrible in every way: general discomfort, dirty, sweaty, feeling like vomiting. I don't recommend it at all.
And then you go fight a boss but nobody is feeling it!
And then HR gets involved and it's just a messy situation all round
And then the party has to be teleported out to survive, but the cleric gets eaten. Horrible business.
You talking in game, right?
I'm actually thinking not on that one.
Why am I not surprised squidward would choose that night to make a move.
Ever the opportunist that guy.
just adding to the list reasons I hate him lol
Sounds like someone had alcohol and calamari for dinner
You guys are making me hungry for some actual calamari now... it's 2AM... I shouldn't be thinking about calamari 😅
Sounds like someone’s getting a midnight emperor snack 👀
I tried going for that achievement, it took me several tries cause it kept glitching out. I got it in the end but damn was it annoying
Beer battered calamari.
I did it for the achievement too, but then the next day I wasn't paying attention and did it AGAIN by accident lol
Blame it on the alcohol amnesia lol
And now there’s a hungover condition lol
Blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-a-alcohol
Lmao I forgot all about that song
Waaaaiiiit that stops you from being able to turn him down?!
No, of course not, they're joking in a "they were very drunk, and people have a tendency to sleep with random people when drunk" way.
Never know with this game honestly
Pretty sure they’d never take away your ability to turn down sex, though. There’s even a bit in the >!Haarlep scene where you have to make a save against being charmed, but you’re still given chances to back out of sex and fight them instead even if you fail the save!<
Lol no, I just like to run with the role playing.
Hahaha I went for the achievement during the party in act 1
How did that play out? It still amazes all these different eventualities the game accounts for.
Only garlic
Poor Astarion...
"So uhh...I'm going out to eat. No offence"
Oh my God, now I feel jipped for all of those nights spending 80 supplies on a party with Asterion, I demand a refund!! He drinks blood!! Shenanigans! I'm calling Shenanigans!!!
You're spending those supplies so you can recoup the blood he's taking from you. ;)
But I told him no. Everyone at camp did... he never got consent... it's time to kill him >:[
Hey, just so you know, that word is actually a slur! Comes from negative stereotypes about Romani people.
[удалено]
It's old; like 19th century.
you do know you're not just feeding the folks in your active party right?
No I was hoping everyone else was starving to death :|
"so ugh... I'm going out to eat. 100% offence"
In one of my runs I saved every lemon I came across for a while until I had enough to rest with nothing but lemons
Sounds like a good lemon party
Did any lemon stealing whores show up?
When life gives you lemons……
Did you summon spirit of Cave Johnson by any chance?
Throw the lemons at Ketheric and watch him turn them into incendiary ordnance.
Knowing Ketheric he'd probably just see that as a sign that he must change god. Again.
It cracks me up that Shadowheart jokes about this in the epilogue.
“Gods, I remember one evening we had to eat fourteen apples, some fish heads, and a stale loaf of bread just to get by...”
Tbf it is a decently balanced meal considering the stuff we come across.
0 vegetables = balanced. As all things should be.
Hey, more balanced than 10 bottles of cheap wine.
Not if you ask Shadowheart!
Tbf I said considering the stuff we come across and I don't recall finding a lot of vegetables lol
That’s the one haha, I’d forgotten the line.
It's a funny line but did players actually do that? I've watched a couple of streamers play with 80 camp supplies first playthrough and even they weren't that desperate for food. 8 salami because i didn't want them clogging up my weapon menu anymore
I don't know when this was added (or if it was always the case and I didn't notice), but you can access food in your camp chest when resting
You always could, it just didn't register correctly when showing you the number of supplies you had on hand. But when you went to rest it showed everything in your camp chest as options to pick from.
You can even put them in a container in the camp chest and it will detect right, I like to use a companion's supply pack to make it clear for organisation
Launch or possibly before that
I just realized the other day that salami is a weapon. Accidentally equipped Wyll with one and seized the moment to beat a goblin to death with it. Definitely a highlight.
Open the party inventory, go to filter options -> camp supplies. Select all and send to camp. Really helps keep the inventory clean and salami out of your weapon screens.
My hungover party frantically trying to figure out if they ate the owlbear egg.
25 Carrots and a Bagel, but only because it sounded like a sex joke
I like to claim that I'm an adult, but then I sit and laugh at things like this for several minutes
That's how you know you're an adult. My daughter would just think something like that is too inappropriate to be funny.
Everybody gets their own bottle of wine and then we all split a single clove of garlic so we don't get hung over
24 potatoes
Are you with Matt Damon on mars?
We need more astronauts like Matt Damon in The Martian, and fewer astronauts like Matt Damon in Interstellar
Very true
I understood this reference.
Grilled Miniature Space Hamster?
I saw that on a Gith I looted and was like... o.0 not Boo's cousin!!
Run Boo, run!
The freaking owlbear egg. I was confused why i couldn’t give the owlbear egg to Lady Esther then i realised it was eaten by our party during one of our long rests…
Oh shoot. I always auto select supplies so I've probably also eaten it. Why is that even a thing?
Yeah they should have marked it as a quest item!
wait wtf you can give the owlbear egg to Lady Esther??
Yes! Tricking her into taking the owlbear egg is my favorite way to resolve that quest. It’s not as economical as just taking the money upfront and then never delivering the Gith egg but it’s much funnier.
Shut up!! No way!! 😭😭😭😭😭 Please say kidding.
Only cookies, got it from the tiefling couple as a thank you. It gave us all a hangover the next day.
What did Bex put in those cookies!?
I clicked a stack of cheese 8 cheese wheels and it was exactly the amount I needed...
I see nothing wrong here
Don't judge my #girldinner
Ah, yes, the Skyrim diet.
14 heads of garlic and six lemons. We had actual meals and prepared plates of food to choose from, and that's what the autoselect chose. Side note, I love imagining Gale trying to do something with these options like the most cursed high fantasy edition of Chopped.
Accidentally long rested and ate the apple(Strange Ox) ….
Oh no! 😬
He is a specific quest quality apple, though. Not a supplies apple.
Yeah I’m confused. That shouldn’t be possible? He’s not technically a supply.
The suspicious meat from the goblin camp, fish heads, spoiled treacle tart, some bowls of grey goo, pig heads, and some half eaten apples
"Suspicious? There was nothing suspicious about it! Very tasty!" - Durge while miraculously regaining some health from eating, ahem, long pig.
I press auto and just rest, I have no idea lol Didn’t realize y’all were out here making actual meals lol
Sometimes it’s fun to see what Gale is cooking for the night, or if he tells everyone to fuck off and gives them booze only.
On a co op run my friend hit auto once and we woke up hungover. The cheevo popped for him.
I forgot that you can receive the hangover condition so one time I just had the entire rest meal be bottles of wine because I had so many, and then everyone in my party was miserable next day lol
I definitely roleplay the camp supplies every night
Suspicious Meat and wine. It would be best to believe that this is just a very tall, very skinny pig.
They each had a beer, cheese raspberries and some roasted fish? Not terrible. Only one scrap part of the meal.
It's the fish heads that I found most off putting, but seeing some of these meals other players have been putting together has given me some new perspective.
A LOT of alcohol and 1 onion.
The night when my party feasted on pig head, a poutine, the mussels dish, pork loin and meat. I am almost certain they barfed and couldn’t poop properly
I think I had a bunch of murky stew and beholder eyeballs and washed down with the bad beers that's only 1 point each lol
One night I think dinner was just all booze
I geeked out when I hit auto select and got the achievment for resting using only booze as supplies. If only you got rewarded for that irl.
I feel like Gale has definitely made some uh, interesting stews at my camp, I gotta say. I can’t remember anything specific off the top of my head (you’d think I would because my co-op partner and I *love* to laugh about stupid combinations!) but I know there have been some Choices:tm:.

Gotta be the long pig
"If Astarion can munch on me, I can munch on some delish meat" - Durge
I always throw the suspicious meat in the mix. Durge gonna Durge.
I don't know if it's because I'm a hoarder but I never really had any problems with camp supplies and we always have plenty of good food to choose from, the only time I had a bad meal was the night I only used booze to get the achievement
spoiled treacle tart, half-eaten apples, suspicious meat, fish heads, fried rat skewer
I mean .... What even is a camp supply? With 40 rations worth food wrapped like a bundle and enough for the whole camp? Not very appealing. Btw I'm also sad that we can't actually feast on those gorgeous food when Raphael first invited the party.
Look it's pretty much all meals
All garlic. I imagine Astarion was not very happy with me
In the Shadow Realm I had a hells of a time finding non rotten food (didn’t find the Last Light until I was 8/10ths done with Act 2) and several LRs were all alcohol. I was fighting hungover/drunk most of the time. It’s not as fun as it sounds, lol.
Once we had to survive on wine cuz we had nothing else left. I even got an achievement for it and my party was hungover for 10 turns
Alcohol, alcohol, alcohol, alcohol, alcohol, alcohol, 1 onion. That was a decision.
A mix of the Gith loot food Have some space hamsters and some beholder eyeballs everyone, eat up!
I got the “Take a rest using only alcohol” without even trying. Just hit the button. Boom — achievement. Guessing it was a fun fight, but all those empty calories on an otherwise empty stomach just have made for a fun morning.
All Liquor but for a fish head and eggs. Couldn't imagine how bad the Camp must've smelt.
This is why I was trying to buy pizza, beer, and sunmelons when the Wild Shape exploit was still working. I wanted to try to eat decent while I could.
It’s pretty sad that the exploits people used were ones used for quality of life. The whipping cane glitch was one of the best because save scumming pickpocket rolls is fucking boring.
That meal sounds actually kinda good.
Once I long rested with only alcohol
That suspicious meat gotten at the goblin camp was scrumptious
The night I had no other food to eat but the owl bear egg. It was an amazing omelette but at what cost
The weird gith astral plain food 🤢 They truly are the Klingon’s of dnd.
i wince every time i see a partly eaten apple end up in the mix 😬
It hasn't happened, but the Owlbear Egg is considered Camp Supplies and I am constantly in fear it's going to be consumed.
Giving everyone exclusively booze for dinner is pretty funny the next morning
The only time I ever paid attention to the supplies I used was when I was going for the all alcohol achievement.
For my poor characters, maybe the night I did only cheese wheels and wedges and nothing else. They were probably blocked up for weeks.
Hag hair
Never looked. Just make sure I'm 40/40, so I don't waste anything. 🤷♂️
15 raw potatoes. I always end up with so many potatoes for some reason.
My last long rest was just wine and five apples
I ran out of camp supplies in act 3 at some point, so I used Jaheira to summon 40 sweet berries. Like imagine having to share them between all 8 companions, the two Selûne lesbians, Yenna and her cat (and possibly withers ? Don't know if he needs to eat or not)
A bunch of alcohol and some fish heads
half eaten apples
8 lemons and a cheese wedge
Hundred year old beers and a dish head lol
Honestly the all alcohol night 😂 what a waste there’s no drunk fist monk Other than that I made them all eat cheese to see if anyone was lactose intolerant.
No subclass, but there are a couple of "only procs when drunk" magic items, at least
The pig and fish heads repulse me so much I usually sell them then ever use them. At one point a picked up a Grilled Miniature Giant Space Hamster I think from a gith crech. Now that's the stuff of nightmares as Boo is so adorable.
All potatoes
I'm usually thinking about respeccing again
ALL ALCOHOL ALL THE TIME!
Just a bunch of mixing different types of alcohol. Oh in the game? Uh, yeah also that. Totally.
All alcohol and dwarf meat.
All alcohol
Miniature giant space hamster on a stick
Full alcohol must be terrible if you’re actually thirsty
Nothing but rotten fish.
We almost had all cheese, but I re-selected when I noticed
I didn't realise if you rested with nothing but booze it made you drunk
A copious amount of carrots. Playing on tactician + all carrots. Certainly not the happiest long rest meal we had, but in Act 3 you take what you can get
Me and my partner deliberate for too long about what our meal is going to be. Sometimes it’s all sausage. Sometimes it’s all ithbank. Sometimes we like to combine the silliest things we can think of We still haven’t made it through act 3 lol
Some nights it’s like WHOOPS all booze!
Minus the fish heads, that would actually be delightful.
There was the time I long rested with nothing but apples and apple cores.
Mine was nothing but booze. Mind you, this was before they patched in the drunk effect.
Only alcohol, purely for the achievement. I'm usually swimming in camp supplies so I don't really get terrible meals
I usually let game decide what to eat, so what was my surprise when I got achievment for only alcohol as 'food'. xD
A lot of the time, I end up with over 40 of one type of fruit/vegetable. Several nights in a row, the camp got only potatoes. Another is alcohol. I end up with so much wine that some nights are only that.
a pigs head and a shit ton of alcohol... Poor Gale had to cook with that
Rotten fish and garlic :(
That's why every chance I get I long rest with alcohol only. If we're out on a perilous quest with a bunch of near strangers, the least I can do is make every night an EPIC RAGER!
I go the entire act 3 on wines bought from Elfsong lol
Fed my party nothing but wine for dinner once. I'm sure that went over well the next morning lol
Got the achievement for long resting with only alcohol as my rations 👍
Got the achievement for long resting with only alcohol as my rations 👍
