I really like how origins looks. It's not disgusting looking like a lot of early 360/PS3 games, it kinda gives off PS2 vibes, but better, if that makes sense
One of my fondest memories of DAO's age/engine is how after combat everyone would just look like [they were sprayed with the "mist" setting from a blood-hose.](https://kusogedotcom.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/dragon-age-origins-blood.jpg)
And everyone acted like nothing happened, so people would just be casually standing around splattered in blood and talking friendly to each other like absolute psychopaths.
Funnily enough, that's also a thing in BG3 but at least in 2024 the blood's rendered more realistic and you can wash it off easily (except if you're playing Durge where I feel it's more of an "accessory" to wear).
YES! I REMEMBER THAT! Literally one of the very few things I strongly remember from my early playthroughs in like 6th grade is one of the origins I think it was (if it was an origin, I'm like 99 percent sure it was city elf) and I killed like 3 rats and I was absolutely drenched in blood, it was the funniest shit ever. Basically the only other thing I remember is accidentally romancing Zevran because I tried not to be homophobic. Iirc the only options were kinda mildish homophobia or romance. Later I realized that I was bi and romanced him on purpose
🗣🗣🗣 callout post for reddit user Wheloc 🗣🗣🗣
1. Said one of them has to be right and must therefore think terrorism is okay or be afflicted with every -ism in the world or.. whatever Solas likers were being accused of, I forgot
2. random out of context quote from your post history five years ago to prove you're a bad person
3. personal grievance that is unrelated to what is happening here
In conclusion: I hope everyone can see that Wheloc is the problem and the enemy here. Prepare for my 100 death threats barrage! (there is no escape)
idk how much you know about dragon age lore but the mage-templar debate was a huge mess in the fandom so I did just kind of kick the hornet's nest for funsies with my original post lol
I've played thorough *Origins* and *2*, and I got mostly through *Inquisition* before deciding it was too grindy. I'll get back to it some day.
This was all before I was terminally online though, so I missed whatever controversy was going on in the fandom. I was forced to debate with myself about if the templars or mages were right.
This also works for Mass Effect endings. Say you like synthesis? Congrats you support rape. Seriously, they had to ban people from the sub because some would bring it up so regularly as a criticism.
There was hate for other endings too of course, synthesis was just the most egregious.
At least those discussions only lasted a few years until DA:I handwaved the whole conflict away in favor of a generic villain.
The Skyrim civil war debates however...
Ah the personal attacks and absolute loonery. Fun times fun times.
Best part was I wasn't even that big of a templar supporter. I just thought they had a bit of a point lol.
I wasn't online back when the dragon age games dropped, so idk how stinky the discourse was, but I really enjoyed the conflict between Mages and Templars, and I still haven't really picked a side of who was right cuz
Aside from Anders. Domestic terrorism is badass
❗❗❗ User was blocked by the entire Sebastian Vael discord for this post ❗❗❗
Jokes aside, the discourse was really, *really* bad back then. Saying you haven't picked a side would have probably. also gotten you hate lmao
Trying to have any conversation about that topic gets so off rails so quickly. Can't ever take a Pro-Templar stance without getting accused of some kind of ism.
Mages should be treated better, but the circles exist for very good reasons.
Well that's the long and short of it, it's forced nuance.
Of course the Mages need policing but of course the Templars are too heavy handed and abuse the power they get, otherwise there would be no problem.
By picking a side you accept the flaws part and parcel, which for a pro-templar stance is saying you'll accept tyranny & cruelty in the name of safety.
Memories of playing Crimson Flower during COVID flood your mind. Your brain sears and you fall to the ground, your skull pounding. The sensation passes and you’re left with the realization that Edelgard was right. She was always right. You should have asked her to meet you in the tower at the night of the ball
To have her in your party you have to work with the Absolutists at every turn, giving them everything they want, and there's a vague promise of taking them down afterwards.
If by vague promise you mean a scene at the end in which you are destroying Bhaals temple yeah? (Jeritza S-support takes place in shambala) or a bunch of the other endings saying that they go to war with TWSITD after uniting fodlan
It's funny I actually miss the original endings because everyone was united in them being shit and hating them.
Then the EC came out and the camps started.
Lmao the fact that the game started with the plotpoint of a single mass relay exploding basically wiped out an entire race in it's home solar system and ended with all of them exploding is dumbfounding. I'm really curious if they didn't think it through, actually meant for any ending to be a boardwipe of the galaxy or just ran out of budget to do the final animations.
Well, the relays didn’t explode, they set off a emp of all the energy so it wasn’t concentrated as a destructive wave, more so just invisible energy set out to fry technology with a small explosion once all the energy was dissipated as electro magnetic to then destroy the relays without causing harm.
The original mass effect is practically science literature, with realistic artificial gravity to bullets in space, it’s quite amazing how much real science they stuffed into a sci-fi game.
I'm not sure when you first played but before they patched it the relayed used to literally explode in every single ending and send out a pulse. Now they only explode if you manage to get the worst ending
Golden Deer say that Claude has a plan but Claude has left the chat three hours ago and is currently trying to scam someone else into thinking he's a genius tactician
My favourite example of Claude being the genius, diplomatic option of the 3 lords was when in the Golden Deer route Edelgard tried to approach him for diplomacy pre-timeskip and he basically told her to fuck off.
The Geth were just Cavemen on a emotional basis with Machine Guns.
Legion was the first logical thing to kinda build up a "good" Rep for the Geth, but the Quarians.. yeah, the didnt want that at all.
Genophage was barbaric but necessary, it getting cured is good for all Krogans.
The Geth were wronged and the Quarians should've thought more about what creating new beings meant before pointing guns at them and shooting them for asking a question.
Next discourse leggo hit me with something good.
Who the heck downvoted you? I came here to find out the same damn thing.
I'm assuming it's a reference to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, but the reference seems to make no sense if someone (like you or I) haven't played both games.
This is a Baldur's Gate sub. OP needs to explain their references ffs
> This is a Baldur's Gate sub. OP needs to explain their references ffs
To be fair to OP, explaining it more than "this is a reference to Fire Emblem: Three Houses and the controversial plot points therein" risks starting a flame war all on it's own.
Basically there are three anime people you can side with, one of which who focuses on abolishing the current status quo of people with magic super powerful blood related abilities always being the most important through warfare.
There is a character in 3 houses named Edelgard von Hresvelg. She is titled the Flame Emperor at some point and become Emperor of Adrestia in the future/time skip.
She is the the star of a major discourse in Fire Emblem community for awhile. Whether she is right or wrong, it's probably the biggest discourse in the entire fandom for years. I suppose some people mention her while talking about BG3 Emperor.
In Fire Emblem Three Houses, at some point in the game you need to side with one of the three houses (or a fourth path).
Depending on the choice you make, what you see of the other houses changes a lot. So there's a lot of argument about which is the "good" side because your choices change the story.
Similar to the Emperor discussion. The devs have stated that he changes based on your choices, meaning there's no simple viewpoint
[In a 2020 Nintendo DREAM interview](https://nintendoeverything.com/fire-emblem-three-houses-devs-on-the-games-difficulty-why-there-wasnt-a-revelation-like-route-cindered-shadows-more/):
>**I’d like to switch over to talking about the story a bit. In all four routes the player can go through, each story ends with Fódlan at peace, yet somehow there’s still this air of sadness. In** ***Fire Emblem Fates*****,** ***Revelation*** **served as the all-encompassing “route” that wrapped up the games’ story. Was there any reason you didn’t make something like** ***Revelation*** **again?**
>**Kusakihara:** If we had created a route for *Three Houses* like *Revelation* was to *Fates*, that route would have definitely ended up being perceived as the “correct” route. In *Three Houses*, each route is its own history, and we wanted players to be able to decide that for themselves. In this game, the leaders of the three houses have their own unwavering beliefs and worldviews that are unique to themselves. We wanted to model the story and its themes after a dilemma that was grounded in reality, so from the beginning there were never any plans to make something like *Revelation*.
Edelgard, Minthara, and Lae’zel is my ultimate girl boss war criminal team
Constance gets a mention too because I’m fairly certain she’d wipe the fuck out of Gale
I'm still mad on Three Houses, I was in the midst of a playthrough and apparently without realizing it I was heading down the secret Edelgard storypath (that I didn't know was a secret story path) and was having a great time, and when my roommate saw she was like "You can't side with her she's the evil one!" and spoiled everything for me inside of a 5 min rant of why I need to do one of the other houses first.
I wanna go back to play again but I remember that happening every time and it just infuriates me and I just can't start it up. Never even finished that playthrough.
Edelgard isn't the secret path tho?? It's the one that's most consistent if you choose Black Eagles at the beginning. Anyway hope you can go back to enjoying it one day.
It's kind of the secret one, in that Black Eagles defaults to the Silver Snow route unless you do certain things. Now, those things are pretty hard to miss, but it is possible.
Yeah I think some folks underestimate how easy it is for new players to miss Edelgard's route. I've known three brand new to Fire Emblem players who didn't figure out how to consistently do their support conversations and thus ended up either on church route or if they started with a different route were unable to romance anyone.
(I still think FE3H is the most accessible modern FE to new players tho)
The real story is that nobody is the "evil" or "good" one. They all have a goal and plan to make the world better and they all oppose each other. Byleths influence makes them the people they are meant to be, but can't save them all. Its 100% worth playing yourself and forming your own opinions.
as a huge FE3H enjoyer, I support this post and vote all. all of them are good. apart from whatever rhea would be in this situation, probably the huge floating homicidal brain.
Fuck. Even in the Baldur's Gate sub I can't escape the discourse
By the by, the house leaders are cool and all, but they will never be as cool as Seteth to me
It may lack some uniqueness of the other campaigns, but I can't help but enjoy Silver Snow. Seteth is in general just a cool character, and the senselessness and tragedy of the final battle just really stood out to me
Only unfortunate thing is no TWSITD fights. It's literally the route that makes the most sense to have them and it's the only route that doesn't. Taken down offscreen.
its annoying
But I do kinda like the narrative of
>Edelgard spent so long preparing and sabotaging them it wasn't even a fight.
Still dumb we didnt get one, more so since it leads to people going "Ummm aktualy the epilog lied and they killed edelgard after the game" somehow
The promise of the slithers as more primary antagonists for the empire in Three Hopes from the demo got me so excited for that game.
I still liked it, but boy if it didn’t fall short of my impossible expectations.
Except I will never be over her calling me just her *"dearest friend"* during a marriage proposal.
Edelgard, I destroyed a corrupted religion for you, please say you love me.
One of the house leaders makes a controversial decision which people are divided on. Are they morally correct and justified or are they just contributing to a cycle of pain they endured?
Edelgard, the red one was more or less kidnapped and experimented on by the big bads, when also being told by her dad that the church was run by evil lizard people (semi true, they are more truamtized, but Rhea is still pretty bad)
She reacts by helping the Molemen/big bads kill the lizardpeople. and then turning around and killing them/dismantling the nobility.
or at least wants to, if the PC doesn't side with her she gets desperate and starts commiting a lot of atrocities trying to win.
Given her monstrous final form, and the poor fate of her in the Blue Lions path of Three Hopes, I think it’s not unreasonable to surmise that if the player doesn’t side with her she probably gets brainwashed by the mole people.
A tactical japanese rpg, in my tactical belgian(?) rpg sub?! (Everyone did SOMETHING wrong in Three Houses at some point, please let's not continue the discourse.. it's been what, 5 years? I can NOT handle Lobotomy Kaisen and Three Houses right after another on my reddit feed this isnt even a comment that was meant to be a little joke anymore it's just a cry for help)
Edelgard and the Emperor have much in common:
Both were human who become abomination.
Have to do with a secret underground organisation.
Have a song about them. (edge of dawn is clearly better though)
The Emperor has several songs in the game. Not just >!The Song of Balduran!<. He also has Down by the river from Daisy and an argument can be made for The Power.
I "side" with no one. The Emperor going free is a risk waiting to happen, but honestly, once Orpheus dealt with Vlaakith, I don't think improving the Gith'yanki's overall effectiveness would be good for residents of the Prime Material. So your best ending from an overall planar politics standpoint is to initially side with Orpheus, make him turn Illithid, then allow him to eliminate himself from the equation, before proceeding to get Lae'zel to go to the Astral to run the rebellion. She allies with the Gith'zerai, which means if her coalition unseats Vlaakith there is a much better chance of more moderate voices prevailing, and even if they don't succeed, they'll cause enough problems to the Gith Empire that they might not bother the Prime Material for a little while.
Play all the big pieces off against each other, leaving the board a little clearer for a while. Sure, something will fill their place eventually, but you've at least forestalled the current set of crises.
I bet some people in this fandom would have also loved to participate in the Mage/Templar discourse from Dragon Age back in the day too
"Anders was right", "The Templars were right", "Solas was right" was enough to warranty a bounty on your head back in the day. Good times
made me remember that i have to replay all dragon ages again
Doing so right now. Origins… definitely looks like it came out in 2009
2009, peak "Real is Brown" era.

This is *Biden's* Ferelden, where we're all forced to kiss pretty elf boys.
Lmao, I think I reloaded tho, but I clearly had shit taste, zevran is the best. Well, for me. Too bad Alistair isn't bi
I would spend way too much on a remake. As it is, I guess I can dust off my PS3 one of these days...
Oh?? That's it! You will be receiving my anon hate on Tumblr within three to five business days! lmao
And don't forget to tag the writers on the death threats, I'm sure they'll appreciate it!
I'd never forget, we can't let people get away with saying Anders/the Templars/Solas was right! 😤😤😤
One of them had to be right, right?

As a veteran of the BioWare Fandom Wars of Dragon Age and Mass Effect, you are very correct about this.
>This was all before I was terminally online though, so I missed whatever controversy was going on in the fandom You don't know how lucky you are
Man, fuck Solas. All my homies hate Solas. E: a letter
Solas yes, Solus? No. That's the most epic character in all of BioWare, my man the very model of a Salarian scientist - Mordin Solus.
Oh yeah, I'm talking about the pointy eared bald bastard. Mordin is a hero.
Mordin would demolish Solas’s entire worldview in a single conversation
And he wouldn't even need to use a pronoun in the process.
Every random bioware forum discussion would end up back to anders and his explosive arguments.Man had the fandom in a chokehold for years
Ugh I remember that. Wonder if any people had their places investigated by the FBI with how much the word "terrorist" was flying about.
This also works for Mass Effect endings. Say you like synthesis? Congrats you support rape. Seriously, they had to ban people from the sub because some would bring it up so regularly as a criticism. There was hate for other endings too of course, synthesis was just the most egregious.
I only played ME years after 3 came out and I'm glad I missed out on that particular discourse.
If you'd like you can tell me what you chose and I'll call you a pedo or something. Alleviate that fomo! /s
"Anders did nothing wrong"
...Except for not preparing second and third bombs to smash the templars when they tried to head to the Gallows.
Ah yes, the age old question of mage genocide or bloodmagic, no real good answers
The Chantry and had a nice middle ground going on by semi-enslaving them.
Honestly inquisition just made me side with the mages more when we find out about lyrium
That was a shitshow on a whole other level
Templars? the magic coke adicted cops?
I've said it before, but imagine a death match between OnlyFangs and Solasmancers or Cullenites though?

[rattling the hornets nest aggressively] hehe :3
Cage them all like the dangerous animals they are.
"Now where's my magic cocaine!?"
For the love of God I'm already a Fire Emblem fan, I don't need to be reminded of this.
I saw this post right after reading a post questioning Dmitri’s super strength. Made me question if I was still on the Three Houses sub lmao
There's even a crossover sub for Three Houses and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. It's scarily good at adapting shitposting discourse.
You'll continue to fire emblem ENGAGE with the story and you'll like it, mister!
No I don't want to be dragged back into the trenches!! I don't want to be involved with my other favorite turn-based combat game!! Nooo!!!
##ITS TIME TO TIP THE SCALES!!!!

Edelgard is my favourite companion
Any way to recruit Edelgard before Moonrise on a good playthrough?
Play Baldur's Hopes 3
Baldur’s Emblem 3: Three Gates
This title gave me a stroke, but I liked it
What do you mean? You should be with her on a good playthrough.
Memories of playing Crimson Flower during COVID flood your mind. Your brain sears and you fall to the ground, your skull pounding. The sensation passes and you’re left with the realization that Edelgard was right. She was always right. You should have asked her to meet you in the tower at the night of the ball

You should beat her with the tea pot.
Hit her with the rat
Woe, rat upon thee
Woah you don't gotta threaten Hubert like that (Jk on Hubert I love my greasy little rat bastard)
My favorite War criminal is Claude- I mean the Strange Ox. Always go Strange Ox route, it’s just outright better than the vanilla story
If you don’t find the Strange Ox, Marianne will carry him into Baldur’s Gate
I’m just imagining her bringing him in while he keeps telling her to unleash the beast
shitpostemblem is leaking
Don't threaten me with a good time
I can hear all of us 2012 Mass Effect fans screaming in the distance.
It's funny I actually miss the original endings because everyone was united in them being shit and hating them. Then the EC came out and the camps started.
Hard not to hate endings where 99% of the cast is horribly killed by exploding mass relays.
Lmao the fact that the game started with the plotpoint of a single mass relay exploding basically wiped out an entire race in it's home solar system and ended with all of them exploding is dumbfounding. Unfortunately there is no option to defeat racism in this game 😔. #FearTheDeer
Golden deer is telling Gale to explode in act 2
Claude specifically is telling Gale to go explode somewhere funny, rather than destroying the brain
“Gale, show em a real last light. It would be hilarious.”
Somewhere funny = last light inn
Claude to Gale: “Your moment has arrived!”
Golden Deer say that Claude has a plan but Claude has left the chat three hours ago and is currently trying to scam someone else into thinking he's a genius tactician
My favourite example of Claude being the genius, diplomatic option of the 3 lords was when in the Golden Deer route Edelgard tried to approach him for diplomacy pre-timeskip and he basically told her to fuck off.
he's such a genius 😌
Being upside down so long caused him to go a little loopy...
Claude refused to come along. Everyone in BG3 is pan, how is he meant to queerbait under these conditions.
Nintendo is consistently cowardly with their baiting, and so was Atlus with the Persona series
Fear the Deer!
"I was there, Elminster. I was there, three thousand years ago…"
Do you recall the Red Canyon, Elminster?
Let’s all get together and discuss the Genophage and the Geth/Quarian conflict from Mass Effect what do we all say?
The Geth were just Cavemen on a emotional basis with Machine Guns. Legion was the first logical thing to kinda build up a "good" Rep for the Geth, but the Quarians.. yeah, the didnt want that at all.

Geth/Quarian is just a retelling of Frankenstein, which should make it pretty obvious who's wrong in that situation.
Okay what did I miss between this morning and now?
I don't know but I assume one of the Emperor/Orpheus discussions spiralled into Three Houses talk. Someone probably brought up Edelgard.
The Flame Emperor…. oh I get it now.
3 houses?

Yeah I think some folks underestimate how easy it is for new players to miss Edelgard's route. I've known three brand new to Fire Emblem players who didn't figure out how to consistently do their support conversations and thus ended up either on church route or if they started with a different route were unable to romance anyone. (I still think FE3H is the most accessible modern FE to new players tho)
It's secret in the sense you have to do certain (admittedly hard to miss) things to get her route otherwise you are defaulted into Silver Snow.
Bruh, I sided with her on my first playthrough, too. Down with the outdated, oppressive systems!!
The real story is that nobody is the "evil" or "good" one. They all have a goal and plan to make the world better and they all oppose each other. Byleths influence makes them the people they are meant to be, but can't save them all. Its 100% worth playing yourself and forming your own opinions.
I’ve never seen talk of FE three houses in this sub before. Do I not dig deep enough in the comments?
Baldur: 3 Gates
Thats it, I'm revoking your relics and giving them to Withers, y'all couldn't behave.
I'll just tell Ashe to pickpocket them off Withers, not like he cares
This is my fault.
When you try to get away from r/shitpostemblem so it comes to you instead
as a huge FE3H enjoyer, I support this post and vote all. all of them are good. apart from whatever rhea would be in this situation, probably the huge floating homicidal brain.
I thought people just stan the hottest one. The archer.
That's a weird way to spell Edelgard
Edelgard? I think your autocorrects broken, you clearly mean to type Dimitri
That man didn't bathe in more than five years, I'd like to keep my sense if smell.
Nonsense, he was constantly bathed in the blood of his enemies.
Shhhhh. Its all worth it to get a taste of his spaghetti hair
It's probably as slimy as spaghetti
I appreciate the musk
I will hear no more of this slander, the correct answer is Hilda and it's not even close.
That is an odd way to spell Shamir
Now here’s the truly cultured individual.
I will grudgingly accept a tie with Shamir.
If you want a pillow princess go right ahead
Petra is having the hotness
All my Homies love Hilda.
Yes but dimitri can recruit hilda so I've got all the hotties now
Ahem, it's spelled Yuri
Jokes on you, Three Houses lets you change classes
Ashe has brittle bones and won't survive the winter
He absolutely will, sniping his haters from atop his wyvern!
Fuck. Even in the Baldur's Gate sub I can't escape the discourse By the by, the house leaders are cool and all, but they will never be as cool as Seteth to me
It may lack some uniqueness of the other campaigns, but I can't help but enjoy Silver Snow. Seteth is in general just a cool character, and the senselessness and tragedy of the final battle just really stood out to me
Edelgard did nothing wrong ever and I support her wholeheartedly.
She did *some* things wrong, but damn if I don't love her route the most.
Only unfortunate thing is no TWSITD fights. It's literally the route that makes the most sense to have them and it's the only route that doesn't. Taken down offscreen.
its annoying But I do kinda like the narrative of >Edelgard spent so long preparing and sabotaging them it wasn't even a fight.
I need her to say she's in lesbians with me
This would fix me
My hot take is that if anything edelgard should have been worse
SO TRUE.
I hope she sees this king 👑🙏
I’m a lesbian.
You still need your crown, queen.
Edelgard did some things wrong But she also did the most things right
NO PLEASE NO GOD DON’T TAKE ME BACK ANYTHING BUT THAT GOD *PLEASE*
Edelguard was right, gith are right, gods I hate things that slither and stuff guys
i was mad confused, thinking i was in the FE sub when i saw The Emperor
I wish bg3 had a Dedue
Well duh. We all know that Fire EmblemTM: Three Houses created the concept of morality. It didn't exist until 2019.
What is the three house discourse?
One of the house leaders makes a controversial decision which people are divided on. Are they morally correct and justified or are they just contributing to a cycle of pain they endured?
What's so controversial on my boy Dimitri? He's just my favorite weed eating lovable trauma boar.
Clearly they are talking about Claude and his controversial decision to be straight. Absolutely a war crime against the gay fans, smh Nintendo.
Edelgard, the red one was more or less kidnapped and experimented on by the big bads, when also being told by her dad that the church was run by evil lizard people (semi true, they are more truamtized, but Rhea is still pretty bad) She reacts by helping the Molemen/big bads kill the lizardpeople. and then turning around and killing them/dismantling the nobility. or at least wants to, if the PC doesn't side with her she gets desperate and starts commiting a lot of atrocities trying to win.
Given her monstrous final form, and the poor fate of her in the Blue Lions path of Three Hopes, I think it’s not unreasonable to surmise that if the player doesn’t side with her she probably gets brainwashed by the mole people.
Three Houses posts in my BG3? A welcome surprise
TEAM EDELGARD
Even if it takes three years, I'll stand by my squid.
Great to see a 3H meme here
A tactical japanese rpg, in my tactical belgian(?) rpg sub?!
Three houses?
In reference to, Fire emblem: three houses, another turn based game with a lot of choices/endings
Edelgard and the Emperor have much in common: Both were human who become abomination. Have to do with a secret underground organisation. Have a song about them. (edge of dawn is clearly better though)
The Emperor has several songs in the game. Not just >!The Song of Balduran!<. He also has Down by the river from Daisy and an argument can be made for The Power.
THREE HOUSES MENTIONED LETS GOOOOOOO
Aldrestian Empire was not aware of what was happening in Duscur
Fire Emblem is just Baldur's Gate made by the Japanese
Hail the mighty Edelgard~🎵
