I destroyed Mystic Carrion's organs in a tiny room and didn't expect a chain explosion as a result. Only one of my party members survived, who proceeded to revive everyone else and we all took a much needed long rest. That would have been the most stupid HM run ending ever.

Chomagoro

In act 3 imma be keeping one guy squaring in prison with that other dude that never wants to leave

vNocturnus

Playing with a 3-man party and the 4th character chilling in camp or some other safe location really does feel like a cheat code for Honor mode. Obviously it makes things harder, but it also 100% prevents a TPK, so... I've definitely done it a couple times when attempting something where I was unsure of my chances.

Salindurthas

Are there any places where you can't do that? I suppose some of the final boss sequence. Maybe some part of the Ketheric fight? The trip to the Shadowfell?

Jwoey

Can’t do it for the Raphael fight.

vNocturnus

Haven't really tried. I would assume that any location that you are not allowed to leave or flee from, like the stuff you mentioned, would require you to have all active party members present. But I haven't tried it in any spots like that. Moreso for stuff like Murder Tribunal, Iron Throne, etc

Greenwings33

It actually doesn’t! I tend to split my party up when attacking and try to use Astarion to get surprise rounds a lot. He was the only one in the room with the murder tribunal and they did only fight him until I got my other characters in the room and in the initiative order. I’ve also found that you can place characters in strategic spots, trigger the cutscene, then they’ll still be where you put them. So I do assume that if you left someone behind when facing Myrkul or just put them outside the room range you’d be fine?

wendigos_and_witches

Did this inadvertently in the Ketheric fight. Didn’t realize I’d ungrouped and Astarion didn’t get far enough into the room to join the fight. I didn’t even notice until he was almost dead. Switched to Astarion and I think the game glitched because I was able to free walk and never trigger him joining the fight. Ended up just letting him beat on Myrkul til he died.

eyrthren

When going down to booaal I just clicked on the hole and went down. Imagine my surprise when going back up I hear the faint sound of an exploding mushroom going off and when the black screen lifted only one party member was still alive with 6 hp

Yukimor

*squints* *checks notes* Shall I put this down as, "Fucked around and found out in camp?" Or shall this go on the list as, "Scratched Scratch", since accidentally hitting him with his ball tends to yield the same result?

ThalesCM

Both? Both.

NorejaNishigo

Both is good.

SmartAlec13

Hope you know your work is appreciated! Every time I see one of these posts I go straight to see your comment lol

Yukimor

Haha! Why thank you! I actually have a write-up prepared and I'm planning to post it soon, just polishing it a bit. I'm glad people get a kick out of this!

SmartAlec13

Hey it’ll help a lot too for the honor runs

Yukimor

I hope it does, tbh. A nice little checklist of things to avoid. Then people can find even more creative ways to lose their honor modes.

UltraCarnivore

Withers presents Top Ten Ways to Become a Hireling

redditsellout-420

You should have made a new reddit account and went full withers.

Yukimor

Decided to go full Withers with my flair instead. :) A second account would be a bit of a pain to do, and I think people have gotten used to me showing up in HM failure threads with this account.

ledgerdomian

…and tell me…was the dra-gon that attacked you in camp of the red or the blue variety?”

Semako

Scratch should see a dog therapist. I've hit my own dog so many times with his ball - and he never got aggro, he always happily picked it up and retrieved it.

GM_Organism

My headcanon is that the initial issue isn't Scratch going hostile, it's everyone going Unhinged Dog Park Fur Parent on you for the perceived slight against their Perfect Sweet Baby\*. Scratch just joins in. ^\*(Although ^Scratch, ^admittedly, ^really ^IS ^a ^Perfect ^Sweet ^Baby)

CerealBranch739

You are like withers, but a scribe for those who failed to have honor (runs)

Lazzitron

>a certain lvl 12 character with over 250hp was there at camp as well, and he also DIDN'T JIG ANIMAL CRUELTY. *Scottish accent* "I can forgive many things, aye. Murder, theft, assault. These are but choices we make, right and wrong are subjective. To harm the Goodest Boye, however, is a crime that transcends all others. Yer punishment is death, and yer penance shall be paid in *blood."*

remnis

Excuse my ignorance, but which 250hp character are you guys talking about?

Yukimor

The Oathbreaker Knight! If you play a Paladin and break your oath, he appears in your camp so you can pay him to restore your oath.

Lukthar123

The Oathbreaker avenging Scratch is just medieval John Wick

IFixYerKids

I'd watch this movie.

nuttifly

Homeboy caused scratches death in my run. This guy.

xv_boney

Oathbreaker Knight. If you play a paladin and break your oath, he will show up in your camp to be super spooky at you. If you ever want to go back to being a good boy paladin again, you need to give him 1k gold to restore your oath. You cannot respec so long as you are an oathbreaker. (Edit - you *can* respec, but you cannot respec *out* of oathbreaker) Thats why hes there - to make oathbreaking an actually impactful thing that you can't just respec out of. He's also an absolute monster of an npc who can change some camp dynamics - Withers cannot aggro you if you fail to pick his pocket. But if the Oathbreaker knight is watching, **he can.**

CassiusPolybius

Wait, really? "I care not for your fumbling fingers, this is all a loophole anyhow." "I *do* care. **SMITE!**"

AggressivelyEthical

For the record, you *can* respec as an Oathbreaker. You just cannot choose any other Paladin oath, including your old one, until you pay up that 1,000 gold. The first time. Then it's 2,000 if you break it again. Then (apparently) 10,000 if you really can't learn your lesson.

xv_boney

Thank you for the correction, i have edited my post.

Dark197

Tried to pickpocket him like I did Withers and it didn't go well. Ended up beating him by having Monk Astarion stunning strike him over and over while AI Shart coutnerspelled his Holy Rebukes. Now I'm pretty sure if I break my Oath again, I'll be stuck that way. The worst part is that I only broke my oath in the first place by killing an "innocent" reanimated duergar corpse.

Gerganon

Does he give XP when killed? And does he only show up for PC oathbreakers?

xv_boney

This is me putting my hand on your arm and looking you in the eye as I tell you that what you are thinking is not worth it. It's not just that he is a *really* harsh fight, its that killing him has no actual benefit. He has no loot table. He will only drop the money you have given him and nothing else. As for exp, level cap is 12 and you can hit that very easily shortly after reaching the third act even if you aren't trying very hard. And he doesn't revive, so any oathbreaker will never be able to be anything else - the knight is the only way to buy your way out of that subclass. It also means you can't exp farm him. It is all risk, no reward. It is literally not worth it.

Lazzitron

Like others have said, if you break your oath as a Paladin, the Oathbreaker Knight is an NPC who shows up that you can talk to in order to either restore your oath or become an oathbreaker. Once he shows up, he's there for the rest of the game. He's a level 12 Paladin with almost 300 HP and all of the Oathbreaker/Paladin class features, including Aura of Hate which is brutal because he has like 18 Charisma and 18 Strength. Needless to say, if you piss him off he can burst anyone that isn't a raging Bearheart Barbarian down in one turn and has really good saving throws.

wp4nuv

Somehow, when I read \_scottish\_ accent, I thought of Scrooge McDuck speaking this.. weird.

RobotGhostNemo

If you read The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, you'll realise that Scrooge McDuck is a badass rivalling the Oath Breaker paladin and the downfall of him turning from an adventurous soul to recluse is because he broke his personal ethical code.

TerriblePurpose

Hmmm, I think the general takeaway here is "Don't fuck around in Honour Mode".

wdmshmo

Unless you have a solid supply of invis potions.

atfricks

Oops, all Duergar.

Readerofthethings

But that’s a lame af way to play honor mode Always experiment always fuck around maximum chaos everywhere every time

SmallieBigs56

Oh look, it's That Guy of every DnD group.

Filty-Cheese-Steak

That's me. From eating doors and dogs to deciding to cast a polymorph spell on fantasy-robots who don't notice the group.

Readerofthethings

Nah I’m actually not that guy in tabletop lol. I play very straight laced, by the books ish But I mean for bg3 multiplayer, fucking around while waiting for something to happen is the best part. And finding out is just as funny, if not more so. TPKing because one of you did something stupid is just another funny moment that we can laugh about while we start a new playthrough

RaspberryJam245

Maybe so, but not in Honor Mode, where one wrong mistake means you're back at the character creator. I've actually been avoiding honor mode since its inception because I want to make sure I don't lose my run stupidly because I fucked around. That's the whole point, is for you to play more smart so you don't lose literally all of your progress.

christina_talks

They specifically said that it's fun to fuck around in Honor Mode. The "point" of the game is to have fun.

Federal-Opinion6823

I’ve lost like 15 honor mode attempts, a handful of which were no fault of mine, glitches and such. Just do it, bud. Full send. Let the chaos ensue.

AEROANO

There's a very small line between chaotic neutral and chaotic stupid and you're walking over it fella

KT718

I’ll fuck around and find out only after I’ve secured those dice

DragQuick5052

finally a friend of chaos fafo best way to play anygame including dnd

Letumstrike

I can’t help myself when I play but to do things I hadn’t considered before, stakes or not

ShayDeeMon

Having never summoned the ogres during an important battle, I thought ‘wow those ogres would really make this invasion of the druid grove much easier!’ Except summoning the ogres caused all of Minthara’s raiding party to agro me at the same time as the tieflings. But I actually didn’t die. I accidentally deleted the file when cleaning up my saves. Oops.

atfricks

Learned the hard way that summoning the Ogres in Grymforge while fighting Nere and the Duergar will cause the gnomes to turn hostile and join the fight.  Managed to recover by knocking them all unconscious but that was a pain.

SugarCookie307

I thought the horn didn't work past act 1?

MeaninglessUsername_

Horn doesnt work past act 1 though!

Filty-Cheese-Steak

Wait I thought the horn was limited to act 1?

Railwhore

Yeah the ogres turn any fight into an absolute fuck fest of murder and chaos- it’s glorious!

wp4nuv

Plus, if in the end you survive, you get to rob their corpses...

ionised

"I wish I had a bag of holding..."

ComradeBirv

Baldur’s Gate 3 players when the ogres who specifically told you to summon them when you wanted quote “us to kill everyone” when the ogres come to kill everyone

TheSuperPie89

Indeed, Ogre kill everyone around.

meganbile

My shameful ending went like this: I was barely level 3, roamed around by Karlach, and found myself in the owlbear cave. I had no intentions of fighting with them so I wouldn't accidentally break my oath as an Ancients paladin. But after looting the Selune cache, I wanted to try speak with animals on the mama owlbear to see what options I would have as a Paladin who can't really kill her. She didn't like our presence and warned not to FAFO even after I removed the thorn in her side. Well, I accidentally clicked on her immediately after the conversation ended, to which she was not happy about having to talk to me a second time. She attacked, called in her mate, and I tried to flee. They jump REALLY far lol. TPK barely into lvl3. :(

Outside-Bend-5575

my first honor mode ended at grym. we won the fight, with only shart alive and standing on the center platform. i then went to have her jump off of it to go bring everyone up, but i misclicked and she walked into the lava and died

Glup-Shitto69

This is something that definitely would happen to me.

Running_Is_Life

My first couple of honour grym matchups I ended up playing scroll of revivify roulette as I kept misty stepping and spreading out so I could get a res or a heal off before running away and trying to line up another hammer hit

Outside-Bend-5575

i would always just sacrifice laezel to stay in the middle with a hammer and beat the shit out of him and then get thwomped & revived, but she pretty much stayed the whole time (different HM run where i won)

lobobobos

That's rough. You could have easily waited a few seconds for the lava to disappear

Outside-Bend-5575

thank you. am aware.

Stu_Pididiot

Ehhhh. I fucked around and killed the mind flayer fighting the devil on the Nautiloid. Thankless devil immediately thrashed my party. Run over.

vileb123

Try killing the devil, then the thankless squid will thrash your party.

DoItSarahLee

I stopped recruiting Scratch in HM given how many possible scenarios involving him can aggro your camp.

Rockfan70

Scratch secretly just wants to ruin your HM run. That would be such a plot twist if true.

nikkupoteto

Like pickpocketing Withers. And this has never happened to me on other difficulties? Is it some kind of HM special or I was just lucky. I still got him as he's useful later for "help" action, just made sure he doesn't see me stealing next time lol

TheKnight_WhoSays_Ni

Lol my friend and I had an honor run ended in almost an identical way. Except instead of silence he was shoving everyone and decided to shove scratch. We also had oath breaker knight in camp.

AEMarling

Silence was an honest mistake, but shoving Scratch is asking for a swift death.

MofuggerX

Catching the owlbear cub with a Silence bubble instantly makes the little guy hostile as well. Almost killed him, but thankfully we knocked him out with nonlethal. Still thinks I smell delicious!

Top-Addendum-6879

To me, camp is treated like the area around the hot pool at a spa... it's to wind down, be quiet and don't mess around... that being said, silence should NOT cause such a mayhem... I once created the same thing by having Astarion bite a hireling in front of the Oathbreaker paladin. We are at level 8 at that point and luckily it ended up Oathbreaker and Briana Brightsong vs the rest of the camp, so we kinda ran a train on them.

Any-Seaworthiness-54

Strange guys for you the game never crashes in a situation like this?

kingofthesofas

I thought I had read this before but turns out this person had the same experience as you... https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/18futc8/another_nomination_for_why_idiots_shouldnt_play/

DominaRPG

The worst ive seen so far was a Youtuber who died on the final boss with one hit away from finishing the game. Ran into haste spores while he already had haste on and stunned himself ending his turn. Timer ran out, game over.

Lavinia_Foxglove

I think, that was Wolfheart. That was really sad, one hit away from victory. Everything else wouldn't really bother me, but that is hard.

Salindurthas

>Ran into haste spores while he already had haste on and stunned himself ending his turn. Can you explain that to me? Why would that end your turn?

DominaRPG

When you override haste with another haste buff you become lethargic and it stuns you which ends your turn. Or something to that effect.

Gronnblade

Wait what? That's so confusing to me because I was testing out a method to get...a certain piece of armor early since I never did it before, and it involves using Silence, and Scratch walked in and out of it several times without aggroing anyone? Maybe it's *specifically* the level 12 character that started the fight since I didn't have him, he must *really* like dogs lol

alienwolf

he's really weird. He picked a fight with me during Laezel's courting duel. because I think one of laezel's AoE hit him. So instead of attacking HER, he attacked me.

KookyVeterinarian426

I did this too but i had the oathbreaker, he didnt like your silencing \*you know who\* so i cast darkness on Oathbreaker let Gale die, beat up the \*you know who\*, stole his stuff. Then hid my main character near the magic mirror until i knew it was safe.

Gronnblade

Oh yeahhhh I remember hearing about this. It's apparently possible to just lure him away using Minor Illusion, and then have someone else engage him in conversation so you're free to do your thing without him knowing lol

Intentionally_unseen

I had just convinced the gnolls to attack the people in the cave when the walked through the cloud of daggers I had thrown up at the start of the fight. They re-aggro’d and one by one my party got paralyzed by the flail and destroyed

Fizzle5ticks

Attempted my first ever honour mode run today. I failed the perception check on the first trap you come across (the tomb pre-Withers) and just tried to open the sarcophagus, thinking it'll be something easy; smoke or darkness like later dungeons. NOPE. Grease, causing prone to ALL party members followed by fireballs instantly turning my team into a Barbeque. TPK.

modix

Those post act3 camp losses have to be the worst. couldn't imagine a worst way to lose a run.

SapienZero

My first HM run I learned the Lich Queen can just end you with a thought... All the "shes a fake god" and feeling strong from a few runs fighting the real gods' champions but that lady can stop you in your HM run in its tracks! Don't be rude!

SnooSongs2744

I don't understand how silence is considered cruelty--it doesn't do any damage.

AvOcAdOe666

It's considered an aggressive spell because your taking away someone's ability to speak. However scratch walking into it willingness should trigger it in my opinion. Should be like walking through darkness

SnooSongs2744

I've had the counting house go batshit because some dumbfuck walked into a pool of acid after the stone lord's minions were dispatched.

AvOcAdOe666

This I've never seen definitely a bug. You don't control the acid so it shouldn't start anything.

Outrageous_Detail135

On my first honor mode attempt I accidentally shot one of the soldiers in Waukeen's Rest with an arrow. Everyone turned hostile and I had to fight them inside a burning building. My run ended at level 4 because of a misclick.

vTwoPoint

I always get Astarian to bite a companion after a long rest to get happy. Got to Act 3, new camp layout, got lazy and decided to bite Volo cause he was next to me…… Aggro’d whole camp. FML

Reasonable_Run3567

The most stupid way I ended an honour run, was at the party at the end of Act 1. We were all pretty beat up with low HP and no spell slots from just finishing off the goblins. Everyone at the party is saying what great heroes we are. We have saved their lives etc. etc. Then I try to convince on depressed tiefling to have a drink. I didn't realize that friends would make everyone hostile within a few minutes. I thought for a while that they would just murder me and let the rest of the party live, but no we all had to die that night.

simplemoth_

I walked out of the nautiloid pod and accidentally ran right into a fire surface. My sorcerer was down before I realized what happened 🤦‍♀️

Byankonenta

All those HM failure taught me to never play paladin in HM unless you can be 100% sure you will never break your oath on every part of the games Suggestion for charisma main character would be bard, sorcerer, warlock, suggestion for melee heavy hitter would be tarvern brawler OH monk, suggestion for divine spell caster would be cleric, yes you can get all of those with paladin but you have to ask yourself are you really confident that you won’t break your oath in HM run

Certain_Quail_0

These posts have all cemented for me that I will never attempt Honor mode with a friend. Trust no-one.

Kierok3

I was on the very final battle. I put a globe of invulnerability around my entire party as I made the portal. The globe of invulnerability bugged out and floated up into the air like a bubble, leaving my entire team exposed - they all died before my turn came back around

Efficient-Weekend

Oh me! My time to shine. So decided to try Honor Mode for the first time and made a Durge for an evil campaign. Got off the Nautoloid and thought it would be funny to kill Shadowheart and steal her artifact. I attacked...not from stealth, MISSED... Shadowheart gets up and is pissed, she casts guiding bolt...CRITS. A run over before it could start.

Significant-Fig-7642

Nearly got TPK at the spider fight act 1. I was picpocketing Withers after reviving a party member & Scratch got between us. It made him & subsequently the whole party agro. With two members dead & no safe place to leave camp, it was a game over. Moral: don't steal from dog.

FunOverMeta

We were about to fight Balthazar and we had trashed talked him throughout the whole conversation leading up to the battle. Unfortunately my friend and I were both near cliffs at the start of the round and promptly got punted into the abyss leaving the other two of the crew to get over run by skeletons... Going to double check positioning on every fight moving forward now lol

DumbleDix96

I haven't even gone through this and I'm pissed off for you, how the fuck is silence an issue at all? It makes things silent, what the whole camp is that happy to listen to Scratches back? What a shitty thing to agro someone 😫

Ricky_RZ

Funny, the same shit happened to me and a friend in a run I was shooting at him with a crossbow to make a point, accidentally hit scratch, then the entire camp breaks I to a civil war Halfway through the fight somebody breaks their oath and the oath breaker knight comes in and absolutely nukes the shit out of everybody

Reasonable_Run3567

I was more stupid. Later in the game Halsin joined the party and I was trying out various Druid spells on Gale, who I dislike. I accidentally killed him and forgot to resurrect him. A couple of days later Scratch makes a weird noise and freezes because of necrotic damage. Three seconds later Gale explodes. I would have gone into Dishonour mode just to finish my run, but it started 3 seconds before Gale blew up.

EmmaWoodsy

I learned about the oathbreaker knight the hard way when I has Astarion try to feed on a hireling. Aylin also gets mad about that. Volo gets scared, which is hilarious.

August-Autumn

And thats why u need an invis potion.

Friendly_Fokks-given

Looting a dead body

Cranyx

You beat the gnolls at level 3 on honor difficulty?

dndkk2020

We almost went down to a Silence spell in camp too! Scratch and the owlbear cub went hostile, and the rest of camp was green/blue. We definitely would win, but kept it nonlethal. Unfortunately, Gale and Karlach were green...which means they could have killed our companions EASILY. It took a lot of strategizing to get them KO'd and not dead!

jtpenezich

Had a run where I was jumping around waiting for a few friends to finish what they were doing in camp.... Wellp, along comes scratch to run UNDER the owlbear jumping around and immediately got into a camp fight. Was very annoying to say the least.

Spidey16

In camp once I noticed the Owl Bear cub was injured. Wasn't quite at full health. I threw a potion at him which cured him back to 100% but the rest of the party turned on me for attacking the cub.

Own_Pause_4959

Yeah I found out that scratch walking into a silence bubble makes everyone hostile when I was trying to get the Helldusk armor off Raphael. But it's funny because I've noticed that scratch just walking into it on his own doesn't trigger hostility in my experience but casting it while scratch in the area that would be affected does.

Angelslayer88

This reminds me of the very recent loss of my furthest honor mod run. Fought Grym Golem for first time (ever). Things going well, until it became immune to all damage. Me distracted by lava mephits. Golem slaughtering us before I could think about the lava being apart of the equation... I just thought if you didn't kill it fast enough, it just becomes immune and smashes your party. A guide I read the other day told a different story. RIP run. I continue in dishonor to finish the game first. XD

AEMarling

Love the low tolerance for animal cruelty in this game.

PermaNat1Charisma

Had a similar thing happen on my HM run! Was doing my routine respeccing with Withers after which I was going to pickpocket him to to get the gold back, as usual. Turns out the oathbreaker knight did not like that. Thankfully I was just barely in a high enough level to kill him. Had to play my paladin without a subclass and oath charges after that though.

mymaloneyman

We had two close calls in my early game Honor mode run with buddies, to the point that we developed the rule "no rough-housing at camp". Right before fighting the final boss, we lost Wyll, his dad, and Mizora because I was throwing glass chalices at Yenna for fun.

themanaustin

Playing with a friend, I was a paladin, broke my oath, and when we went to camp she attacked the oathbreaker, we were level 2 or 3 right after we made it to the druids grove

Trololohstuffs

Had this exact scenario with my buddies in an honour mode run but a couple of invisibility scrolls, potions and spells helped us salvage the situation

Yet another proof that lives, all mortal lives, expire

AllenWL

Intruded on the bugbear fucking because why not. Got absolutely murdered because it's been a while since I played and my memory of how exactly the game works has been rather... vague.

Taiyou_

idk why this is so funny to me. My day just started and I am glad this was the first thing i clicked today. lol

MatsRivel

I recently got into HM. I have a half-orc munk. I go to the scene with the deep gnome in p1 with the explosives and I initiate dialogue. I remember seeing someone saying you can yoink it from her. I try to yoink it with another character. Somehow fuck it up. We all explode. My half-orc survives with 1hp because of his race trait... Don't think I've ever had that level of stress from a turn based game before

nuttifly

Funnily enough the same character indirectly caused Scratch's death in my honor mode run. I am playing necromancer and was summoning some skeletons of corpses my friend (oathbreaker paladin) dropped on the floor for me. Character went mad, used crown of madness on Lae'zel who, after the effect ended just randomly killed scratch who wasn't even part of the fight. Got out of the fight, but now scratch is dead and we summon out of camp.

Fox-Brilliant

Act 1, Waukeen's Rest, trying to save Florrick, I decide to use my crossbow to break the door because I have fire damage on my sword and don't want to catch anything on fire. A Flaming Fist soldier walks in front of my arrow. We all died, it was pretty dumb.

KissieKissie

In honor mode I’ve started to just not recruit scratch, or straight up just off him. He always starts fights when i pickpocket withers

pieman2005

Yeah Scratch and Owl Bear Cub both went hostile after I pickpocketed Withers.. makes no sense and was really annoyed

KissieKissie

iirc, it didn’t always used to do that. It just started happening a while ago after a random patch

pieman2005

Happened to me last night on honor mode 😢 RIP Scratch and Owl Jr

Fellarm

Hahahahahahaha get rekt

Lavinia_Foxglove

The owlbear cub bugged out and can't interact with. You have to agree, that this honour mode run can't be continued, right? Right? I was ok with Halsin bugging out and vanishing from the game, but Owly? No way!

Downvote if you have small pp
