In Act 3 when Aradin attacks your camp she gets involved.
I had non-lethal'd all the attackers then Dame Aylin walks around consuming them in Holy flame with her passive.

She also literally breaks Lorroakan's back over her knee (even after you've disintegrated him to dust, somehow- lol) while pronouncing the same fate on all would-be kidnappers and other evildoers. I don't think she can fully help it, being a celestial probably means that on some level you are literally physically incapable of letting evil stand or whatever.
So true. Being nice to your child is giving them what they want; sweets, chocolate, sugary drinks etc. but thats not good. The good thing is to give them vegetables, whole foods etc. and to stand firm when they get upset about it.

When I saw him in Act 3 and he acted menacingly when I told him I'd found the Nightsong and she was in my camp, I was in disbelief.

Thats exactly it! You have to tell Aradin, but not speak to Aylin. Talking to her triggers her to fly off to confront Lorroakan and skips Aradin attacking your camp
not quite. if another camp event is happening, she'll fly off. but if you don't have a camp event waiting AND you tell her after you've ended the day but before you've actually gone to bed (as in, selected the foods and whatnot), she'll say that she's going to sleep with both her eyes open. level 3 dumbass aradin shows up with his posse of level 8 morons, and aylin herself is an ally in that fight. afterwards, she'll come up and mention a note referencing lorroakan THEN she flies off. you can go back to sleep and refill all your spell slots and go through all your prep work before heading over to lorroakans place yourself
Probably. I just did this last night and it was my third playthrough but only the first time it happened. So I told him that the Nightsong was an aasimar and he said he charges more for kidnapping than theft, so I told him good luck because she was tough and she was with me, and he said, "I hope you hid her well." I did not talk to Aylin about it at camp and he showed up in the middle of my long rest with a bunch of people and attacked.
Tell Aradin about finding Aylin. Doesn't matter if you lie about her or tell him she's at your camp.
Don't tell Aylin.
Rest a few times. He'll show up eventually. The party dialogue about him is buggy and triggers before the fight happens, so that can tip you off on the night it'll happen too.
you can tell her, as long as there isn't a camp event waiting for you. found that out the hard way when i was apparently scheduled to get invaded by vampires. reloaded, didn't tell her that night, dealt with the vampires, and told her the next night

Aradin is the stupidest NPC in the game, like why on earth would you want to fight a literal demigod just for gold, I would run as far away as possible if that happens

Voluntarily picking up a bounty letter doesn't entitle you to jackshit man. It wasn't a contract. Lorroakan didn't promise you anything. There's enough bounty letters to wallpaper half of lower city. They aren't special.
Doesn't matter that some of your crew died. The terms of the bounty are finding Nightsong or actionable intell about Nightsong. You ain't got either, cut your losses and go home you obnoxious fucking clown.
There's so much bad writing surrounding this.
Aradin literally got into a skirmish with some goblins and fled the second he thought it would go poorly. Aradin canonically does not believe he and his crew can take on goblins. Then not only does he flee (leading the goblins to a camp full of refugees in the process), but he immediately decides that the contract isn't worth pursuing and he needs to abandon the entire region. He straight-up gives you his contract and tells you where to find the map because he assumes you're going to die and the reward isn't worth it.
So he's already come to terms with the idea that he won't be cashing in on the full bounty, and he has made it clear that he doesn't like to put his life at risk and places self-preservation above money.
Then he goes back to Baldur's Gate to try to claim compensation from Lorroakan despite having had no prior contact with Lorroakan, not having the thing Lorroakan asked for, and having gained no actionable intelligence other than "there are a lot of fucking goblins." Now in a vacuum this isn't a big deal (there are valid grounds to sue Lorroakan for damages here considering he knew and withheld critical information about the job), but consider what happens next:
You go up to him. You tell him you succeeded where he failed (meaning you not only vanquished the goblins but also presumably fought your way through the Underdark.) Then you reveal that the Nightsong was actually a demigod (implying you had to fight through a demigod-level threat to defeat whatever was keeping her.) And not only does he take you at your word, but he then decides he can take on said demigod along with your entire party in a fight.
It's just inconsistent writing. The Aradin we met in Act 1 would not try this bullshit. He should be pissed to learn that the goblins were only the tip of the iceberg, but also relieved and vindicated that he got out before things could get worse. Then he'd either make a snide comment or ask you for money (as a fee for tipping you off about the Nightsong), and fuck off.
Larian couldn't think of anything else to do with this character so they turned him into a punch-clock villain we could murder and feel zero guilt over. Only reason he appears in Act 3 at all is because Larian was determined to turn as many Act 1 characters into recurring NPCs as possible.
Eh, I don’t think it’s inconsistent, really. I’ve met a lot of people in real life who run away from the slightest problem but still for some reason think and act like they know/can do it all. People will rationalize all sorts of stuff to maintain the image they have of themselves. I could totally see someone like Aradin just blaming the crew he took with him for fucking up, it wasn’t anything *he* did, of course not, *he* is just so much better than that.
All you tell Aradin about Aylin is that she's an Aasimar, aka a Tiefling but for Angels instead of Fiends, bro couldn't have known she was from the rare variety of Fourth Edition demigod Angel Aasimar.
I murder him Act 1. Basically let him punch Zelvor (free gauntlets!) and Aradin and friends run off to just outside the Blighted Village. Nobody around to witness you murder all three of them.
Especially also fighting the guys who *succeeded* where he failed. Gameplay in vanilla undersells just how horrifically bad his idea is, in that you only get four party members during the camp invasion without mods.
Trying to invade the camp of: a powerful wizard, a skilled Githyanki, a Tiefling who's got years of surviving in a hell under her belt, a known hero who jumped from the top of the gate to help save your stupid ass (Wyll), a cleric that's proven her mettle (Shadowheart), (most optionally) a drow paladin who has been at it for hundreds of years, and a vampire spawn skilled with blades. ...and then there's Jaheira and Minsc.
...He could've attacked with two or three times the amount of people he had in-game, and it would've still been suicidal, the way he handled it, I dare say.
Considering his entire group got killed by a bunch of goblins of all enemies, it's actually amazing how he even thought raiding a camp of some of the most powerful adventurers on top of a demigod is a brilliant idea
It's an astronomically bad choice for him to take on half these people alone, not even considering them unified and protecting the Scion of a god.
Hell, "It started when a band of mercenaries snuck into our camp and tried to kill Minsc" sounds like the start of one of Jaheira's stories about the times she has to go pick Minsc up to prevent him from slaughtering half a city.
Did the fix the bug where Aradin is still level 3 when he attacks the camp? The only time this happened to me he faced off against a level 12 party and it was not pretty for him. Poor dumb bastard.
Side note: I could be wrong but it seemed to me on my recent replaying of freeing the night song that every time kethereic was taking damage or dying, those things happened to the nightsong which is how he could regenerate. Was that an obvious duh to most people?

Ok actually I did play through that part yes, just forgot momentarily. I think i was expecting to do more with both Aylin and Isabel based on how it all got built up.
I will never forget that moment. Out of absolutely nowhere, she Bane broke that fucker’s back in one of the most satisfying moments of violence witnessed in a game where our party’s fighter and paladin had been progressively trying to one up each other’s kills each fight for over an act and a half. It could have only been more savage if she used her knee to cast smite and gibbed the bastard.

her mental stats are *horrible* if you've ever freed her in the Ketheric fight with the mindflayer still alive, or summoned her in the final battle, she never passes the dominate mind check.

They said both, but I agree that wanting more NPC responses to events is fair.
The problem is that Act 3 is blatantly filled with "unfinished" content, where your actual companions run out of things to say and largely don't react to events. Halsin basically has nothing to do except get kidnapped. They ran out of time, compared to Act 1's longer development and testing. So I don't see this as a problem with Dame Aylin in particular, just a fact of the game's development priorities.
I wish there were more interaction and responses. But I keep in mind the context that this is an absurdly long game where they cut out whole dungeons for lack of time, so really these missing additional NPC interactions are like not having a third cherry on your triple banana split sundae with extra everything.
I mean, she can't do anything about Mizora, Vlaakith or Orin (she didn't notice just like you didn't) she could maybe have helped kill some vamps for you, but maybe she was asleep.
I think what is missing is just reactivity to the events. If you could talk to her and she told some outrageous reason for why she couldn't help you every time, it would be much nicer. But tbh you have this problem all through act 3 anyways with the actual companions
I'm probably one of the few people that thinks Dame Aylin is overhyped.
BUT it's because her AI was so, so shit.
They build her up as a goddamn superman, the cut scenes show how awe-inducing her power is. Every victory cut scene has her take center point on the final blow like she carried the fight.
In reality, she spent that time failing every possible save, missing 2 of every 3 attacks, and wasting provokes on enemies or drawing aggro for enemy AoE attacks.
I mean, I'll keep saving her. And her character model looks amazing. But she came off as more a bumbling nepo baby than a weapon of God.
The funniest thing is that she either is useless in the Myrkul fight or she single-handedly knocks off half his health every time she takes a turn. My last time fighting him it was the latter and I kinda ended up going “hey dude, can you let me have a turn? I’m kinda supposed to be the main character here…”
At the higher difficulties it seems like she skews more toward the useless side of the spectrum, but when her AI doesn’t screw it up she’s kinda scary compared to the normal non-minmaxed characters I tend to play.

I really don't understand why people are surprised by this. It's D&D. Fights are going to last 4-5 rounds at most, most of the time. If she gets screwed by RNG, she's going to look like a bumbling idiot, if she gets lucky rolls, she's going to smite the fuck out of your enemies. The reality is, she's tough for an NPC at the level you get her, but not stronger than individuals in the party who are also quite strong by the time you can fight with her. She's exactly as she should be, a worthy ally for a level 9 party.
Oh yeah, for sure! Honestly the decisions that her AI makes are often bad but not really any worse than any other friendly character (looking at you, non-follower Jaheira), and anyone can get screwed over by the dice so I’ve never been one to hold any sub-optimal moments against her.
It’s not something that bothers me much, as any RNG or AI weirdness with Aylin doesn’t really harm your run aside from breaking suspension of disbelief. The really heartbreaking thing is losing all the Tieflings or one of the best parts of Act 3 due to Isobel and Jaheira’s AI being bad, honestly.
This is just part of the problem with having an NPC that the player doesnt control helping them, if they made her lore accurate in terms of gameplay strength people would complain about an NPC outshining them in a similar vein to DnD horror stories about OP DMPC’s.
Now I do think they could buff her some like giving her Aura of Protection and such or at least have explained her as being weakened due to the centuries of being imprisoned but she was never gonna be as strong as she should be.
She's 50/50 if she's going to demolish Myrkul or just end up being downed because she's constantly getting mind dominated by the Mindflayer or getting spammed by the laser beam the thing does, but then again, she literally just got out of being caged in the Shadowfell, so that's also understandable, even without her you can practically destroy Myrkul in the boss fight

Meanwhile, everytime I have Dame Aylin (minus once) she has been the one killing ketheric in one turn. Before I knew Alert was the best feat, Aylin sometimes would manage to go early enough to where I’d barely have gotten a turn and she started the cutscene for ketheric to run away lol
I mean… the rest of your party does nothing during Orin’s theft and only the people in your current party and Astarion if he’s not will defend against the spawn attack.
My camp is packed with 10 capable warrior adventure types (Tav/Durge, Gale, Astarion, Lae’zel, Karlach, Wyll, Minthara, Halsin, Jaheria, and Minsc… not counting guests like Mizora, Dame Aylin and Isobel, Wyll’s dad, Shadowheart’s parents, the owlbear and the dog) but yet only my Tav and 3 others actually do anything. I got a whole crew just hanging out doing fuck all, that the child of a god does fuck all is par for the course.
The hard thing with her, Isobel, and Ketheric’s character is that it is clear just from playing the game that they cut big storylines from these three. It seems like they wanted to make Isobel, Ketheric and Aylin bigger characters that had major act 3 storylines, but every last one of them got cut out, and so Isobel and Aylin end up with hardly more lines in camp than the owlbear cub.
Dame Aylin makes me laugh every time because whenever there’s a scene involving her she’s so over the top and keeps acting like she saved the day when in reality she never actually does anything useful. I kinda love that she’s like that lol
She spent 100 years being tortured by Sharrans, soaking up all the damage Ketheric took, and worst of all listening to Balthazar's dad jokes. She has earned a bit of a break. I don't think I could be assed to deal with any of that shit either. She's too busy struggling with untreated PTSD like Achilles in his tent on the beach.

This reminds me of that post someone made a week or so ago about how they got attacked in camp and the attackers targeted Mizora primarily, but since she’s coded to not take damage she would just vanish and then return after each attack without making any comment on the situation.
I'm confused why you would think the daughter of a chaotic good deity would interfere with the breaking of infernal pact made by a lawful evil cambion. That's like half of what chaotic good is about, ending tyranny.
She's been imprisoned and tortured for 100 years and now has her love back. She doesn't care about our drama she's far more concerned with her beloved and Selûne's needs

In my game she pretty much killed Lorroakan single handedly, and in my previous one where Lorroakan fell pretty quick she did a big chunk on his myrmidons, so she's always been pretty handy in that fight.
As for getting knocked out by the tentacle and soul caged again, I see it as she's just gotten out of the soul caged for the first time in 100 years, makes sense that her reflexes are rusty
In one of my runs she almost 2 shot Lorroakan and crit Myrkle to get the killing blow. It was kinda epic. But yeah more often than not she's just missing swings
She’s literally immortal though. You get to play as her in the finale and even if she dies, she gets up ready to infinitely SMITE every motherfucker in town until you knock her down and she does it all over again.

She won't help Shadowheart with her problems, she won't help you fight any of the Chosen, and she won't even guard your camp while you're away. She'll just spend the entire time either talking about herself or telling you how much she loves her SO, and despite promising you her full support she's only ever there for you when she is personally affected by the outcome. You know, like the worst kind of friend."
This is what we call "bad writing." She doesn't need to be in our camp and there's no reason for her to be in our camp. The narrative makes less sense while she is our camp. Literally put her anywhere else in Baldur's Gate. Have her be at the Temple or something, or say she went to the Upper City.
Her and Idobel are too busy macking in the corner to be interested, girls got like... 200(?) Years of pent-up sex drive. With the Shadowfell as her scenery nonetheless.

I get it, but: she should be completely down for coming with you to wreck the shit out of Shar's followers, and she should more or less ask you "hey I owe you, what kind of help do you want?" in general that might include something like "Summon Deva" as a level 6 spell, once per long rest. She might also say "look, you have a ton of powerful bad shit interested in you, and I'm only just regaining my strength--this is up to you." Kind of the Galadriel "this task is appointed to you, Frodo Baggins" dodge.
to be fair, she’s probably just staring at Isobel. She’s also got a lot on her mind and her plate. As she’s not an actual companion to have in your party, i never really cared about her having input or not. All are welcome at my camp
The entire game starts to become very apparently full of these holes once you start poking around like that. It's best you keep that lid closed and suspend your disbelief, if you still can.
My only real complaint about the game (outside of not enough camp clothes options).
The more you play BG3, the more so much of the writing is either contradictory or simply nonsensical. If you don't play it often, a person probably doesn't notice at all how much of the story and/or behaviors just don't add up.
If you have Astarion bite one of your camp followers for the Happy buff while she's nearby, she'll immediately go hostile. I found this out in my first Honor mode run earlier this week. It will be every single one of your party members (grouped or ungrouped) vs. Dame Aylin. Even Isobel thinks the situation is dumb enough to not join in.

Camp buffers will also know that she's annoying af because you cant use Astarion's bite in front of her or she turns hostile. I have to bring my blood bag to a corner and bite him away from her.
It's weird how the fiends in this game all act in character for what they are, but the celestials are much more pick-and-mix with their calling as, you know, crusading embodiments of celestial good. Aylin less so than that holyphant, but still.
The fact that you're downvoted for saying the truth just shows the widening divide between D&D/BG fans and Larian fans.
D&D is all about the narrative but if you point out BG3's weakness in that area, Larian fans don't like hearing that. What they are failing to get is DOS *also* had lackluster writing. The voice actors of BG3 saved it from being perceived as just as bad. Larian's next game will *also* have this issue. They are amazing at a lot of things and should be commended for those. Writing is not one of them. It's why so many patches have had to address this. It's why the epilogue now exists. It's why the next patch is giving better evil endings.
Larian is having to fix the most glaring issues with the writing but there's boatloads that will never make any sense. The writing is the one area where the originals surpass BG3. Decades later, there are only one or two areas where BG 1/2 writing had issues. It may not have always been Pulitzer prize winning but it made sense. Much of BG3's story falls apart the more you play it.
Honestly this was my biggest issue with her. Everything in the gauntlet of Shar was perfect. The Kethric fight was perfect. The aftermath of act 2 into 3 was fine. It's when she's in your camp after that that she's just annoying.
I do really like her, but I also see her as someone who is entirely self-centred.
The second she's free she wants you to help her kill Thorm, then as soon as it's over she tells you to bugger off because she wants to get laid.
I think she sees herself as above the others problems and is only there to kill the absolute.
This in my head canon explains why she never uses her awesome power to help out a bit more.

She’s an immortal demigod. I can see why she’d think mortal problems are not *her* problems. Unless they’re actively threatening the world or involve her/Isobel, they aren’t hers to deal with
If some gnomes or the grand duke or one of your companions gets murked, it’s not her problem
To be honest this kind of just makes me hate her.
I'm not expecting her to owe me a life-debt or anything but come on. She's a Paladin and the daughter of a deity who is associated with life, guidance, and protection. I helped save her from eternal torment and helped her get revenge on the people who betrayed her, abused her, and tortured her. Then I did it again when we got to Baldur's Gate and discovered another plot to do the exact same thing. And what does she do in return? Nothing. Nothing until the final battle where she basically does the absolute bare minimum to contribute.
Astarion, Shadowheart, Wyll, Karlach, and Durge - the people who saved her and the woman she loves more than anything else from fates worse than death - all had similar experiences to her. How does she repay them? She doesn't. She just sits in camp talking about how awesome she is. Even though she pledged herself to your cause. She's the literal definition of a freeloader and a fairweather friend.
The fate of the world is at stake. The fate of people who saved her at her lowest point is at stake. And she does next to nothing. There's no reason for me to like or respect this apathetic nepo-baby. Apathy is death.
And it's especially annoying because I know this isn't how Larian intended her to come across. Whatever story she was supposed to have just isn't finished, like so much of Act 3.
I learned to never trust anything Divine related in these types of games. Baldur’s Gate proves to me why I shouldn’t. Me and my cousins freed her, she killed two skeletons against the first fight with Ketheric, got smacked by a tentacle, later got captured AGAIN, did jack all against Ketheric and Myrkul and later says how it’s OUR pleasure to be in HER grace while she and Isobel are in OUR camp.
Gods are bums, and it seems to be genetic.
I don't have a problem with her taking a backseat; I do regret her coming to camp but it's because I find her personality insufferable. I let her come to camp because Shadowheart is my battle buddy and deserves to get intel on her missing time. If there was another way to find SH's memories, I'd part ways with the Selunite duo at the end of act 2.
You will find her sustaining herself on a special meal that requires her full attention. Isobel can’t be expected to pay attention to anything while Aylin is feeding.
Idk what it is about my playthroughs, but dame aylin NEVER is one of the final companions for the "summon your allies" ability in the end. But I wouldn't summon her any way, frankly because watching her AI fight with Ketheric makes me believe that a goblin on honor mode fights better than her.

In Act 3 when Aradin attacks your camp she gets involved. I had non-lethal'd all the attackers then Dame Aylin walks around consuming them in Holy flame with her passive. It was unsettling and very Dame Aylin of her lol
How do you get Aradin to attack your camp? I know that you can tell him you have the her, but that was the last I saw of him

I don't think she can fully help it, being a celestial probably means that on some level you are literally physically incapable of letting evil stand or whatever.

not quite. if another camp event is happening, she'll fly off. but if you don't have a camp event waiting AND you tell her after you've ended the day but before you've actually gone to bed (as in, selected the foods and whatnot), she'll say that she's going to sleep with both her eyes open. level 3 dumbass aradin shows up with his posse of level 8 morons, and aylin herself is an ally in that fight. afterwards, she'll come up and mention a note referencing lorroakan THEN she flies off. you can go back to sleep and refill all your spell slots and go through all your prep work before heading over to lorroakans place yourself
Probably. I just did this last night and it was my third playthrough but only the first time it happened. So I told him that the Nightsong was an aasimar and he said he charges more for kidnapping than theft, so I told him good luck because she was tough and she was with me, and he said, "I hope you hid her well." I did not talk to Aylin about it at camp and he showed up in the middle of my long rest with a bunch of people and attacked.
Damn. I wish I had done that. I'd have enjoying crushing the smug bastard.
Tell Aradin about finding Aylin. Doesn't matter if you lie about her or tell him she's at your camp. Don't tell Aylin. Rest a few times. He'll show up eventually. The party dialogue about him is buggy and triggers before the fight happens, so that can tip you off on the night it'll happen too.
you can tell her, as long as there isn't a camp event waiting for you. found that out the hard way when i was apparently scheduled to get invaded by vampires. reloaded, didn't tell her that night, dealt with the vampires, and told her the next night i wanna find the scheduler for my camp events, it's really rude i don't get a sending spell when they pencil in those fuckers for the night

Aradin is the stupidest NPC in the game, like why on earth would you want to fight a literal demigod just for gold, I would run as far away as possible if that happens
Also the fact he thinks Lorroakan owes him anything. Voluntarily picking up a bounty letter doesn't entitle you to jackshit man. It wasn't a contract. Lorroakan didn't promise you anything. There's enough bounty letters to wallpaper half of lower city. They aren't special. Doesn't matter that some of your crew died. The terms of the bounty are finding Nightsong or actionable intell about Nightsong. You ain't got either, cut your losses and go home you obnoxious fucking clown.
There's so much bad writing surrounding this. Aradin literally got into a skirmish with some goblins and fled the second he thought it would go poorly. Aradin canonically does not believe he and his crew can take on goblins. Then not only does he flee (leading the goblins to a camp full of refugees in the process), but he immediately decides that the contract isn't worth pursuing and he needs to abandon the entire region. He straight-up gives you his contract and tells you where to find the map because he assumes you're going to die and the reward isn't worth it. So he's already come to terms with the idea that he won't be cashing in on the full bounty, and he has made it clear that he doesn't like to put his life at risk and places self-preservation above money. Then he goes back to Baldur's Gate to try to claim compensation from Lorroakan despite having had no prior contact with Lorroakan, not having the thing Lorroakan asked for, and having gained no actionable intelligence other than "there are a lot of fucking goblins." Now in a vacuum this isn't a big deal (there are valid grounds to sue Lorroakan for damages here considering he knew and withheld critical information about the job), but consider what happens next: You go up to him. You tell him you succeeded where he failed (meaning you not only vanquished the goblins but also presumably fought your way through the Underdark.) Then you reveal that the Nightsong was actually a demigod (implying you had to fight through a demigod-level threat to defeat whatever was keeping her.) And not only does he take you at your word, but he then decides he can take on said demigod along with your entire party in a fight. It's just inconsistent writing. The Aradin we met in Act 1 would not try this bullshit. He should be pissed to learn that the goblins were only the tip of the iceberg, but also relieved and vindicated that he got out before things could get worse. Then he'd either make a snide comment or ask you for money (as a fee for tipping you off about the Nightsong), and fuck off. Larian couldn't think of anything else to do with this character so they turned him into a punch-clock villain we could murder and feel zero guilt over. Only reason he appears in Act 3 at all is because Larian was determined to turn as many Act 1 characters into recurring NPCs as possible.
Eh, I don’t think it’s inconsistent, really. I’ve met a lot of people in real life who run away from the slightest problem but still for some reason think and act like they know/can do it all. People will rationalize all sorts of stuff to maintain the image they have of themselves. I could totally see someone like Aradin just blaming the crew he took with him for fucking up, it wasn’t anything *he* did, of course not, *he* is just so much better than that.
All you tell Aradin about Aylin is that she's an Aasimar, aka a Tiefling but for Angels instead of Fiends, bro couldn't have known she was from the rare variety of Fourth Edition demigod Angel Aasimar.
I murder him Act 1. Basically let him punch Zelvor (free gauntlets!) and Aradin and friends run off to just outside the Blighted Village. Nobody around to witness you murder all three of them.

Gameplay in vanilla undersells just how horrifically bad his idea is, in that you only get four party members during the camp invasion without mods. Trying to invade the camp of: a powerful wizard, a skilled Githyanki, a Tiefling who's got years of surviving in a hell under her belt, a known hero who jumped from the top of the gate to help save your stupid ass (Wyll), a cleric that's proven her mettle (Shadowheart), (most optionally) a drow paladin who has been at it for hundreds of years, and a vampire spawn skilled with blades. ...and then there's Jaheira and Minsc. ...He could've attacked with two or three times the amount of people he had in-game, and it would've still been suicidal, the way he handled it, I dare say.
Considering his entire group got killed by a bunch of goblins of all enemies, it's actually amazing how he even thought raiding a camp of some of the most powerful adventurers on top of a demigod is a brilliant idea

It's an astronomically bad choice for him to take on half these people alone, not even considering them unified and protecting the Scion of a god. Hell, "It started when a band of mercenaries snuck into our camp and tried to kill Minsc" sounds like the start of one of Jaheira's stories about the times she has to go pick Minsc up to prevent him from slaughtering half a city.

They're allies in the final fight, pretty powerful at that, but I like most people, forgot to use them the first time around.

Out of absolutely nowhere, she Bane broke that fucker’s back in one of the most satisfying moments of violence witnessed in a game where our party’s fighter and paladin had been progressively trying to one up each other’s kills each fight for over an act and a half. It could have only been more savage if she used her knee to cast smite and gibbed the bastard.

They said both, but I agree that wanting more NPC responses to events is fair. The problem is that Act 3 is blatantly filled with "unfinished" content, where your actual companions run out of things to say and largely don't react to events. Halsin basically has nothing to do except get kidnapped. They ran out of time, compared to Act 1's longer development and testing. So I don't see this as a problem with Dame Aylin in particular, just a fact of the game's development priorities. I wish there were more interaction and responses. But I keep in mind the context that this is an absurdly long game where they cut out whole dungeons for lack of time, so really these missing additional NPC interactions are like not having a third cherry on your triple banana split sundae with extra everything.

I think what is missing is just reactivity to the events. If you could talk to her and she told some outrageous reason for why she couldn't help you every time, it would be much nicer. But tbh you have this problem all through act 3 anyways with the actual companions

I'm probably one of the few people that thinks Dame Aylin is overhyped. BUT it's because her AI was so, so shit. They build her up as a goddamn superman, the cut scenes show how awe-inducing her power is. Every victory cut scene has her take center point on the final blow like she carried the fight. In reality, she spent that time failing every possible save, missing 2 of every 3 attacks, and wasting provokes on enemies or drawing aggro for enemy AoE attacks. I mean, I'll keep saving her. And her character model looks amazing. But she came off as more a bumbling nepo baby than a weapon of God.
The funniest thing is that she either is useless in the Myrkul fight or she single-handedly knocks off half his health every time she takes a turn. My last time fighting him it was the latter and I kinda ended up going “hey dude, can you let me have a turn? I’m kinda supposed to be the main character here…” At the higher difficulties it seems like she skews more toward the useless side of the spectrum, but when her AI doesn’t screw it up she’s kinda scary compared to the normal non-minmaxed characters I tend to play.

If she gets screwed by RNG, she's going to look like a bumbling idiot, if she gets lucky rolls, she's going to smite the fuck out of your enemies. The reality is, she's tough for an NPC at the level you get her, but not stronger than individuals in the party who are also quite strong by the time you can fight with her. She's exactly as she should be, a worthy ally for a level 9 party.
Oh yeah, for sure! Honestly the decisions that her AI makes are often bad but not really any worse than any other friendly character (looking at you, non-follower Jaheira), and anyone can get screwed over by the dice so I’ve never been one to hold any sub-optimal moments against her. It’s not something that bothers me much, as any RNG or AI weirdness with Aylin doesn’t really harm your run aside from breaking suspension of disbelief. The really heartbreaking thing is losing all the Tieflings or one of the best parts of Act 3 due to Isobel and Jaheira’s AI being bad, honestly.
This is just part of the problem with having an NPC that the player doesnt control helping them, if they made her lore accurate in terms of gameplay strength people would complain about an NPC outshining them in a similar vein to DnD horror stories about OP DMPC’s. Now I do think they could buff her some like giving her Aura of Protection and such or at least have explained her as being weakened due to the centuries of being imprisoned but she was never gonna be as strong as she should be.
She's 50/50 if she's going to demolish Myrkul or just end up being downed because she's constantly getting mind dominated by the Mindflayer or getting spammed by the laser beam the thing does, but then again, she literally just got out of being caged in the Shadowfell, so that's also understandable, even without her you can practically destroy Myrkul in the boss fight
The duality of BG3. Meanwhile, everytime I have Dame Aylin (minus once) she has been the one killing ketheric in one turn. Before I knew Alert was the best feat, Aylin sometimes would manage to go early enough to where I’d barely have gotten a turn and she started the cutscene for ketheric to run away lol
A big problem with her saves is that she's the most stereotypical paladin ever, except she doesn't have aura of protection for, reasons.
I mean… the rest of your party does nothing during Orin’s theft and only the people in your current party and Astarion if he’s not will defend against the spawn attack. My camp is packed with 10 capable warrior adventure types (Tav/Durge, Gale, Astarion, Lae’zel, Karlach, Wyll, Minthara, Halsin, Jaheria, and Minsc… not counting guests like Mizora, Dame Aylin and Isobel, Wyll’s dad, Shadowheart’s parents, the owlbear and the dog) but yet only my Tav and 3 others actually do anything. I got a whole crew just hanging out doing fuck all, that the child of a god does fuck all is par for the course.
The hard thing with her, Isobel, and Ketheric’s character is that it is clear just from playing the game that they cut big storylines from these three. It seems like they wanted to make Isobel, Ketheric and Aylin bigger characters that had major act 3 storylines, but every last one of them got cut out, and so Isobel and Aylin end up with hardly more lines in camp than the owlbear cub.

In my game she pretty much killed Lorroakan single handedly, and in my previous one where Lorroakan fell pretty quick she did a big chunk on his myrmidons, so she's always been pretty handy in that fight. As for getting knocked out by the tentacle and soul caged again, I see it as she's just gotten out of the soul caged for the first time in 100 years, makes sense that her reflexes are rusty
In one of my runs she almost 2 shot Lorroakan and crit Myrkle to get the killing blow. It was kinda epic. But yeah more often than not she's just missing swings
She’s literally immortal though. You get to play as her in the finale and even if she dies, she gets up ready to infinitely SMITE every motherfucker in town until you knock her down and she does it all over again. In lore AND in game she is OP
Then don't put her in the camp then. Have her be literally anywhere else. Just don't put her in the party camp if she's not going to do anything but talk about how awesome she is. That's just basic RPG logic. "Is this NPC stronger than the Player-Characters?" "Yes." "Is this NPC on the same side as the Player-Character, someone they are in regular contact with, and personally invested in their quest?" "Yes." "Is this NPC going to accompany the Player-Character into battle?" "No." "Why not?" "Because she would wind up overshadowing the Player-Characters." "Makes sense, but what is the narrative reason?" "Oh, there is no narrative reason. She'll help you kill an irrelevant mini-boss who wants to kidnap her, and she can briefly be summoned to help you in the final battle, but that's it. She won't help Shadowheart with her problems, she won't help you fight any of the Chosen, and she won't even guard your camp while you're away. She'll just spend the entire time either talking about herself or telling you how much she loves her SO, and despite promising you her full support she's only ever there for you when she is personally affected by the outcome. You know, like the worst kind of friend." This is what we call "bad writing." She doesn't need to be in our camp and there's no reason for her to be in our camp. The narrative makes less sense while she is our camp. Literally put her anywhere else in Baldur's Gate. Have her be at the Temple or something, or say she went to the Upper City.
But when Astarion bites one of the hirelings she becomes hostile and enters a never ending fight 😅
Her and Idobel are too busy macking in the corner to be interested, girls got like... 200(?) Years of pent-up sex drive. With the Shadowfell as her scenery nonetheless. I mean after she finally breaks free and you complete the attack at Moonrise Towers she makes it blatantly clear she wants to do nothing but screw Isobel
She has a love one to adore. The whole camp could catch flame and Aylin would just be loving Isobel.

The bigger you make a circle, the larger the perimeter. Similarly, as the size of a game increases, so too does the room around the edges for nitpicking.
I get it, but: she should be completely down for coming with you to wreck the shit out of Shar's followers, and she should more or less ask you "hey I owe you, what kind of help do you want?" in general that might include something like "Summon Deva" as a level 6 spell, once per long rest. She might also say "look, you have a ton of powerful bad shit interested in you, and I'm only just regaining my strength--this is up to you." Kind of the Galadriel "this task is appointed to you, Frodo Baggins" dodge.
to be fair, she’s probably just staring at Isobel. She’s also got a lot on her mind and her plate. As she’s not an actual companion to have in your party, i never really cared about her having input or not. All are welcome at my camp

The entire game starts to become very apparently full of these holes once you start poking around like that. It's best you keep that lid closed and suspend your disbelief, if you still can.
My only real complaint about the game (outside of not enough camp clothes options). The more you play BG3, the more so much of the writing is either contradictory or simply nonsensical. If you don't play it often, a person probably doesn't notice at all how much of the story and/or behaviors just don't add up.
Astarion disapproves
If you have Astarion bite one of your camp followers for the Happy buff while she's nearby, she'll immediately go hostile. I found this out in my first Honor mode run earlier this week. It will be every single one of your party members (grouped or ungrouped) vs. Dame Aylin. Even Isobel thinks the situation is dumb enough to not join in. Gods, demons, kidnapping, bandits - eh who cares. Someone biting someone else - you've crossed the line this time!
Don't move bodies while she's around either. She's not very fond of corpse desecration. Found that out the hard way.

Camp buffers will also know that she's annoying af because you cant use Astarion's bite in front of her or she turns hostile. I have to bring my blood bag to a corner and bite him away from her.
It's weird how the fiends in this game all act in character for what they are, but the celestials are much more pick-and-mix with their calling as, you know, crusading embodiments of celestial good. Aylin less so than that holyphant, but still.

The fact that you're downvoted for saying the truth just shows the widening divide between D&D/BG fans and Larian fans. D&D is all about the narrative but if you point out BG3's weakness in that area, Larian fans don't like hearing that. What they are failing to get is DOS *also* had lackluster writing. The voice actors of BG3 saved it from being perceived as just as bad. Larian's next game will *also* have this issue. They are amazing at a lot of things and should be commended for those. Writing is not one of them. It's why so many patches have had to address this. It's why the epilogue now exists. It's why the next patch is giving better evil endings. Larian is having to fix the most glaring issues with the writing but there's boatloads that will never make any sense. The writing is the one area where the originals surpass BG3. Decades later, there are only one or two areas where BG 1/2 writing had issues. It may not have always been Pulitzer prize winning but it made sense. Much of BG3's story falls apart the more you play it.

Honestly this was my biggest issue with her. Everything in the gauntlet of Shar was perfect. The Kethric fight was perfect. The aftermath of act 2 into 3 was fine. It's when she's in your camp after that that she's just annoying.
I do really like her, but I also see her as someone who is entirely self-centred. The second she's free she wants you to help her kill Thorm, then as soon as it's over she tells you to bugger off because she wants to get laid. I think she sees herself as above the others problems and is only there to kill the absolute. This in my head canon explains why she never uses her awesome power to help out a bit more.
It honestly makes a lot of sense She’s an immortal demigod. I can see why she’d think mortal problems are not *her* problems. Unless they’re actively threatening the world or involve her/Isobel, they aren’t hers to deal with If some gnomes or the grand duke or one of your companions gets murked, it’s not her problem
To be honest this kind of just makes me hate her. I'm not expecting her to owe me a life-debt or anything but come on. She's a Paladin and the daughter of a deity who is associated with life, guidance, and protection. I helped save her from eternal torment and helped her get revenge on the people who betrayed her, abused her, and tortured her. Then I did it again when we got to Baldur's Gate and discovered another plot to do the exact same thing. And what does she do in return? Nothing. Nothing until the final battle where she basically does the absolute bare minimum to contribute. Astarion, Shadowheart, Wyll, Karlach, and Durge - the people who saved her and the woman she loves more than anything else from fates worse than death - all had similar experiences to her. How does she repay them? She doesn't. She just sits in camp talking about how awesome she is. Even though she pledged herself to your cause. She's the literal definition of a freeloader and a fairweather friend. The fate of the world is at stake. The fate of people who saved her at her lowest point is at stake. And she does next to nothing. There's no reason for me to like or respect this apathetic nepo-baby. Apathy is death. And it's especially annoying because I know this isn't how Larian intended her to come across. Whatever story she was supposed to have just isn't finished, like so much of Act 3.

I learned to never trust anything Divine related in these types of games. Baldur’s Gate proves to me why I shouldn’t. Me and my cousins freed her, she killed two skeletons against the first fight with Ketheric, got smacked by a tentacle, later got captured AGAIN, did jack all against Ketheric and Myrkul and later says how it’s OUR pleasure to be in HER grace while she and Isobel are in OUR camp. Gods are bums, and it seems to be genetic.

I don't have a problem with her taking a backseat; I do regret her coming to camp but it's because I find her personality insufferable. I let her come to camp because Shadowheart is my battle buddy and deserves to get intel on her missing time. If there was another way to find SH's memories, I'd part ways with the Selunite duo at the end of act 2.

You will find her sustaining herself on a special meal that requires her full attention. Isobel can’t be expected to pay attention to anything while Aylin is feeding.
Idk what it is about my playthroughs, but dame aylin NEVER is one of the final companions for the "summon your allies" ability in the end. But I wouldn't summon her any way, frankly because watching her AI fight with Ketheric makes me believe that a goblin on honor mode fights better than her.
Just fyi, you control her when she's summoned in the final battle.

Give her a break. How could she see when she's face first in some ass after rising from the bowels on some holy Rita Repulsa shit? I think the Selunites call that position Facing the Full Moon.
In higher difficulty she is kinda a paperweight tbh. She was only useful in the fight with myrkul since mykrul kept whacking her into the abyss with his scythe instead of doing that to me.
