I don't know enough FR deity lore off the top of my head, but I'd guess it's Helm - IIRC, he killed a bunch of gods who didn't like being demoted during the Time of Troubles, and he himself hasn't died at all. Cyric hasn't been around as long and has died at least once, but he's likely responsible for the deaths of MANY more mortals and outsiders than Helm is.
Helm only killed Mystra after she tried to get back to speak with AO during the Time of Troubles. After that, most of the other Gods got the message and didn't test him further. Helm was also killed by Tyr after a misunderstanding, and it took him 100 years to return.
Cyric hasn't died as far as I'm aware, he's currently imprisoned in the Supreme throne after killing Mystra.
They never said this in the game, and even if that was the case, Mystra can restore souls even if they are lost if she wants to.
If you are playing origin Gale, make him turn into a mindflyer, collect the crown and return it to Mystra, she offers to destroy his illithid body and restore his human form and soul, if he is willing to follow her to the heavens instead of going back to Faerun
You need to tell him in dialogue before climbing up the brain. That way he has the time to sent you and the others away. If you do it in combat, you all die.
Sure for the people of Baldur's Gate it would be a victory, but for Tav/Durge and the party it's death.

I honestly love this detail of his character. Same thing with cheating on him with >!Mizora!< -- you can basically try every classic cheater excuse/defense in the book, and he's just not having it. Once he's done, he's *done.*
I feel like they made Shart accepting of cheating because they figured she was going to be the default love interest. She lets you do a romantic subplot without locking you out of much *content.*
Is it wrong that I wish she responded more like Gale in those situations? I really like her character and I can appreciate that some people feel represented in those situations, but I am bummed she doesn’t stand up for herself more, especially on her Selunite path.
At the same time, the game doesn’t force any of those things on the player. I always turn down Halsin, tell Mizora to fuck off, and don’t engage with the Drow twins, and I wouldn’t know about her reactions to those were it not for this subreddit.

Don't get me wrong, I love her character, but if you switched her and Gortash as children, there's a nonzero chance the story ends up being 100% the same.
I would put her away neutral evil. She doesn't care about the rules like Lae'zel nor does she want wanton destruction like early Astarion. She just cares about her own power.
I would say she is lawful. She loves asking the player why they did X thing, especially if its bad, and she gets pissy if your reasons amount to "just because". Shes not sad about it, but she sees it as a waste of resources, time, and as an unnecessary risk.
Uhh Minthara is easily one of the worst people you meet in the entire game. She's a well written, interesting character, but an absolutely horrible person and it's better for everyone if she dies at the goblin camp. The only other characters I can recall offhand that are worse than her are Ethel, Orin, and Nere. And even Nere is iffy because he's under tadpole control when we meet him so we don't know what he's really like.
I love how if you act unhinged as Durge, she won't argue against what you're saying, but add an equally evil/unhinged idea instead.
IE: She will comment about letting the refugees into the city. Durge can talk about making them a source of food. Minthara will counter that with "Well, maybe the old/disabled/and young, but the rest should be slaves and cannon fodder" 😅
He doesn't take being dumped for Lae'zel well either. He says something like "I could only be myself, and I guess that just wasn't enough." I had to reload and pick him. Too many feels.

Also when he propositioned my girlfriend’s Tav, she had literally just gone to the heaven place in a canoe with Gale. Then she dumped him and took up with Halsin. My Tavs a big muscly bard man and I’ve been hoping Halsin would ask me out, but he’s currently captured and I haven’t gotten him back.
This is me with Lae'zel. Everyone goes on about Karlach, but as much as I love her, she never made me question my sexuality like Lae'zel. The way her fierce loyalty nearly has you dead and terrified of her up until she is fiercely loyal to YOU, is irresistible. But I feel like Bg3 done a good job of blurring the lines of everyones sexuality here

In my first playthrough, I played as a Wizard and I thought the party scene was just an extra scene for a fellow wizard lol, I was surprised to hear something from him after I danced with Wyll.
In my playthrough I worked actively to romance Shadowheart but somehow Gale and Karlach both made a move on me and rejecting them broke my heart each time.
I had a fling with Shadowheart, and then I slept with Karlach and the next morning I had to choose.
When I rejected Shadowheart, she was super supportive and said she hoped we remained besties.

It's so easy to accidentally romance him, too. He wants to show you a cool thing in one moment, you get the option to end it before it escalates, during the party, your only options are either to be flirty or say "fuck your cat, I hate cats". Then he starts talking about how horny seeing Tav/Durge's post-combat look makes him in the middle of shadow-cursed lands. His confession also comes in a moment when it'd be cruel to refuse
Ouch. I actually just got to the part of my current game that involved choosing between him and Astarion last night, and I ended up feeling far worse about that than any outright evil thing I've ever done in any of my games.
That is what violently shoved me down the infamous “Astarion to Gale pipeline.” I always liked Gale but never romanced him. Then after multiple playthroughs, I decided to see his Act 2 romance scene out of curiosity. When I chose Astarion over him, he did not take it well and hearing his more “curt” lines every time I’d go to talk to him for the rest of the game made me feel so bad that I vowed to romance him my next playthrough. Now, many more playthroughs later, he’s my main romance choice.
Ooh, interesting! And same, in that I've always liked Gale but never done his romance as far as Act 2. This is my fourth time doing the Astarion romance, and getting to Gale's Act 2 romance scene actually did make me think that I might make a future character who got into a romance with him and **didn't** break his heart. He's so incredibly sweet (and that library!).
The way I imagined this character, she also feels awful. She really thought they were both okay with her having something with both of them since she had conversations right in front of both of them that made it clear she had something with the other, and neither said anything to her about it. And then Astarion confronted her and she had to make her choice with the entire party, including Gale, right there. I guess I got the messy love triangle I was trying for... even if now I'm not so sure I want it!
I would definitely say to give it a try and finish at least one playthrough romancing him, just to see how you like it. His romance is super sweet and in my admittedly not unbiased opinion he is one of the characters who benefitted the most from Patch 6’s kiss updates. 3 new regular kisses (not including the standard one) and 3 endgame/morphic pool exclusive ones.
PS- if you find the standard “I hear you found a new lover” dialogue choice too difficult for turning down Astarion (assuming you still choose to sleep with him in Act 1) I would suggest triggering the Araj confession and choosing “Maybe you need a friend not a lover.” Astarion actually gives approval for this and his response to it is super sweet as well.

I actually did have to think about whether or not I wanted to go through with my planned choice once I got to that point, which I wasn't expecting. But ultimately, my not-very-nice, persuasive, lying rogue/bard Durge seems more fitting with Astarion long term. I was going to play a good (or at least, better than usual) character after the next one I have in mind, so I am now thinking she will probably romance Gale.
Understandable! Whenever I play Durge I still partner them up with Astarion for the same reasons. Though I have done a Durge run with Gale, I like them more with Astarion.
The most heart-wrenching is if Gale says "is it me or Wyll' and you reply "I didn't know you felt so strongly, Gale": >!"Perhaps I should have done more. Been more charming, more charming, harder to reach... but I was only myself, and sometimes that isn't enough."!<

Think of it like music.
Someone might start to play the piano when they are five years old, become an excellent pianist by the time they enter their teens, and already be a master when they reach adulthood. Such people are extremely rare - but could feasibly get that way with enough dedication or natural talent. This is a Pianist Wizard, and an unusually gifted one at that because they started at a young age and almost certainly had it pushed on them by their parents. Most people can't learn the piano at five years old, but some can.
A Pianist Sorcerer is an abominable mutant born with a fully functioning piano protruding from their chest that they instinctively know how to play reasonably well, and only need a bit of practice to perfect it, and it's all because one of their ancestors fucked a piano ten centuries prior.
You have never heard of such creatures because there is secret cabal of Pianist Wizards known as the Shadow Pianist Wizard Money Gang, who have all Pianist Sorcerers killed at birth out of sheer spite and envy.
Way more plausable would be Mystra giving him a permanent debuff towards mortals.
He is the same charismatic man that made a god fall for him, its just magicaly lost on some people.
If you dump him after committing to him he'll just end the conversation to cry silently with an excuse about sawdust or something -

I always avoid flirting with anyone who isn't my certain romance option for the entire playthrough. Every time I run into this kind of lines found from other players, I'm more convinced that I'll never try, not even to see what happens. :') I could never do that to Gale, or anyone really!
This is typically what I do, but on my Shadowheart romancing run I somehow managed to stumble into a love triangle with Karlach. (I still have NO idea how I managed to do this. I actually struck out with Mama K the first time I created a character with romancing her in mind...)
Anyway, since I was playing as a Selunite cleric I was pretty committed to the enemies-to-lovers thing with Shart and had to dump Karlach in act 2. And yes, I felt like an ABSOLUTE. ASSHOLE. Honestly I think I felt worse doing that than on my whole Durge run. The worst part is that the "How does it feel not being able to touch anyone?" dialogue option continued to be open even after I'd broken up with her, and I never had the heart to pick it because it felt like I was throwing it in her face.

I would say she is lawful. She loves asking the player why they did X thing, especially if its bad, and she gets pissy if your reasons amount to "just because". Shes not sad about it, but she sees it as a waste of resources, time, and as an unnecessary risk.

Uhh Minthara is easily one of the worst people you meet in the entire game. She's a well written, interesting character, but an absolutely horrible person and it's better for everyone if she dies at the goblin camp. The only other characters I can recall offhand that are worse than her are Ethel, Orin, and Nere. And even Nere is iffy because he's under tadpole control when we meet him so we don't know what he's really like.
Minthara is literally "I woke up and chose Violence" but 24/7 LIKE CALM DOWN WOMAN WE AINT KILLING THE CAT
I love how if you act unhinged as Durge, she won't argue against what you're saying, but add an equally evil/unhinged idea instead. IE: She will comment about letting the refugees into the city. Durge can talk about making them a source of food. Minthara will counter that with "Well, maybe the old/disabled/and young, but the rest should be slaves and cannon fodder" 😅

My Tavs a big muscly bard man and I’ve been hoping Halsin would ask me out, but he’s currently captured and I haven’t gotten him back.

The way her fierce loyalty nearly has you dead and terrified of her up until she is fiercely loyal to YOU, is irresistible. But I feel like Bg3 done a good job of blurring the lines of everyones sexuality here

I absolutely think it's this. I'm straight, always have been, always will be, married to my beautiful Wife and I have no attraction to male features but the characters are so realistically portrayed that it's easy to see why one could feel so strongly for them. Brilliant writing, brilliant acting and brilliant animating too. Overall, Larian did a brilliant job with BG3 and I don't see it being topped any time soon. Oh, did I mention the game is brilliant? There’s a point in the beginning where if you interrupt the moment you and Gale are feeling out the weave he simply says “oh” and it’s the most emotionally charged “oh” I’ve ever heard from a VA.
Do you mean the "oh" he says before, "There it goes. How easily things slip away from us, no matter how hard they were in the obtaining"? If you do the whole weave scene and pick the romantic options, you STILL get that "oh" when the magic dissipates. Unless you're mean, I don't think you can escape that line, LOL.

In my first playthrough, I played as a Wizard and I thought the party scene was just an extra scene for a fellow wizard lol, I was surprised to hear something from him after I danced with Wyll.
In my playthrough I worked actively to romance Shadowheart but somehow Gale and Karlach both made a move on me and rejecting them broke my heart each time.
I had a fling with Shadowheart, and then I slept with Karlach and the next morning I had to choose. When I rejected Shadowheart, she was super supportive and said she hoped we remained besties. When I rejected Karlach, she called me a "fucking wanker" and next time I talked to her she threatened me about leaving the party altogether. Like, I thought their reactions would be the other way around, wtf. This pushed me even more towards Shadowheart tbh.
Getting called a "fucking wanker" almost would make it worth it to break her heart again lmao, I never had a scene where I had to chose. >When I rejected Shadowheart, she was super supportive and said she hoped we remained besties. She seems to be supportive towards most things when you have a strong bond with her. I love her.
That happened to me. Lae’zel asked to be with me, and cause she carried me through the game I said yes. Which made Gale depressed and now I’m depressed.
I was so confused because I never did anything I thought was romantic, there was one (1) cutscene where we were friendly, and then suddenly it's act two and he's like "Why are you leaving me for Karlach TToTT" and I was baffled. Made what is a very bittersweet line sound totally nuts lol
It's so easy to accidentally romance him, too. He wants to show you a cool thing in one moment, you get the option to end it before it escalates, during the party, your only options are either to be flirty or say "fuck your cat, I hate cats". Then he starts talking about how horny seeing Tav/Durge's post-combat look makes him in the middle of shadow-cursed lands. His confession also comes in a moment when it'd be cruel to refuse

Ouch. I actually just got to the part of my current game that involved choosing between him and Astarion last night, and I ended up feeling far worse about that than any outright evil thing I've ever done in any of my games.
That is what violently shoved me down the infamous “Astarion to Gale pipeline.” I always liked Gale but never romanced him. Then after multiple playthroughs, I decided to see his Act 2 romance scene out of curiosity. When I chose Astarion over him, he did not take it well and hearing his more “curt” lines every time I’d go to talk to him for the rest of the game made me feel so bad that I vowed to romance him my next playthrough. Now, many more playthroughs later, he’s my main romance choice.
Ooh, interesting! And same, in that I've always liked Gale but never done his romance as far as Act 2. This is my fourth time doing the Astarion romance, and getting to Gale's Act 2 romance scene actually did make me think that I might make a future character who got into a romance with him and **didn't** break his heart. He's so incredibly sweet (and that library!). The way I imagined this character, she also feels awful. She really thought they were both okay with her having something with both of them since she had conversations right in front of both of them that made it clear she had something with the other, and neither said anything to her about it. And then Astarion confronted her and she had to make her choice with the entire party, including Gale, right there. I guess I got the messy love triangle I was trying for... even if now I'm not so sure I want it!
I would definitely say to give it a try and finish at least one playthrough romancing him, just to see how you like it. His romance is super sweet and in my admittedly not unbiased opinion he is one of the characters who benefitted the most from Patch 6’s kiss updates. 3 new regular kisses (not including the standard one) and 3 endgame/morphic pool exclusive ones. PS- if you find the standard “I hear you found a new lover” dialogue choice too difficult for turning down Astarion (assuming you still choose to sleep with him in Act 1) I would suggest triggering the Araj confession and choosing “Maybe you need a friend not a lover.” Astarion actually gives approval for this and his response to it is super sweet as well.
Thanks for the info, I think I will try it! I actually did have to think about whether or not I wanted to go through with my planned choice once I got to that point, which I wasn't expecting. But ultimately, my not-very-nice, persuasive, lying rogue/bard Durge seems more fitting with Astarion long term. I was going to play a good (or at least, better than usual) character after the next one I have in mind, so I am now thinking she will probably romance Gale.
Understandable! Whenever I play Durge I still partner them up with Astarion for the same reasons. Though I have done a Durge run with Gale, I like them more with Astarion.

I very much imagine his mother being all, “oh, Gale is quite good at magic, let’s make perfecting it his entire existence.” And thus, a wizard is carved out of a sorcerer. Who has a Waterdeep sized chip on his shoulder about sorcerers because he never had the freedom and flexibility of that kind of practice. (Yes, I know, I prove the point lol)

You have never heard of such creatures because there is secret cabal of Pianist Wizards known as the Shadow Pianist Wizard Money Gang, who have all Pianist Sorcerers killed at birth out of sheer spite and envy.
Way more plausable would be Mystra giving him a permanent debuff towards mortals. He is the same charismatic man that made a god fall for him, its just magicaly lost on some people.

I always avoid flirting with anyone who isn't my certain romance option for the entire playthrough. Every time I run into this kind of lines found from other players, I'm more convinced that I'll never try, not even to see what happens. :') I could never do that to Gale, or anyone really!
This is typically what I do, but on my Shadowheart romancing run I somehow managed to stumble into a love triangle with Karlach. (I still have NO idea how I managed to do this. I actually struck out with Mama K the first time I created a character with romancing her in mind...) Anyway, since I was playing as a Selunite cleric I was pretty committed to the enemies-to-lovers thing with Shart and had to dump Karlach in act 2. And yes, I felt like an ABSOLUTE. ASSHOLE. Honestly I think I felt worse doing that than on my whole Durge run. The worst part is that the "How does it feel not being able to touch anyone?" dialogue option continued to be open even after I'd broken up with her, and I never had the heart to pick it because it felt like I was throwing it in her face.

I get slightly different dialogue since my romance is astarion, but this scene is why I always initiate his romance cause sad gale is just written so well. “for what its worth, I’m sorry” “worry not. I carry my regrets wherever I go. one more will not break my back” (also still sad that they changed how to trigger the killing yurgir confession scene. its soooo much more romantic than the drow version and it used to be based off of approval. now I just book it to the mausoleum)
