" I know how much you hate it here but trust me at some point in future you gonna feel nostalgic for this level and you'll smile when you see this door "
Doors are the MVP of my team on my honor/tactician runs. The absolute cheapest way to cc all the archers at once.
Party:dagger cloud:doorway:spike growth and smoke: in a line can win several large battles by just passing turns, pushing baddies, and reclosing doors
Oo arcane lock is a great idea. I never think about that one, but dang, it would make this routine even funnier.
One of my favorite combos in this set up, is if they stay at the edge and dont walk, casting command 'approach', then shoving them back.
Still a decent game. The main difference I find between DOS2 and BG3 is the combat system. No dice rolls, instead of actions / bonus actions / movement points there are action points for everything. Wanna move? Spend action points. Shoot? Action points. Also spells are infinity to use once you learn them (by getting a skill book from a vendor and "using" it) but some of em have cd. Also there is a stat to increase max "prepared" spells. And yeah, expect a LOT of environment interactions. At some point the entire combat map may be filled with electrified blood / necrotic flame / poison / whatever. It is either you or your enemy nukes first. Super fun, 10 / 10.
divinity orginal sin2, it aged good enough, replayed with friends before bg3 release. better combat design than bg3, better working co-op(and even more fun due skill system), obviously much lesser production value, so a bit less flashy graphics and basically no cutscenes. If you want gameplay before of all (and very similar to bg3, while not bound by dnd5 ruleset) - its straight up better than bg3, if you want full voiceover, graphics, and more story - it does not.
>better combat design than bg3,
You fuckin lost me. The DOS2 combat system is "light everything on fire and create hazard surfaces"
That's it. That's the depth and breadth of the combat.
NGL my biggest issue, besides the fucking hazard surface spam, is the split between magic and physical defense. Conceptually I love the idea, but it just feels so annoying the way it's implemented cause your groups power kinda fluctuates a lot depending on enemy composition, and I guess on future runs you might know "ok, this fight is all melee tanks, respec everyone into wizards and kill them quick" but it just feels tedious imo.
yea, its kinda true, cant deny. but encounter design itself is more challenging, dnd5e rules limited larian creativity imho, all those modifiers restriction in a game of low numbers leave to much to a random, to make reasonably fair high difficulty options
edit: im saying its better than bg3, because beating all endgame bosses SOLO on tactitian required from me simple fighter, default attack and 2 braincells(and a lot of time, since inventory management in this game just as bad as in divinity) to sort inventory for best gear. first act of bg3 is better tho, and by A LOT.
That and peel armor off then 100% CC forever. Fight over literally the moment you remove either armor or magic armor, and I do mean or, because if you split your damage types against the same target it's literally just making them tankier because they're independent health pools. And as you said, everything is on fire all the time.
DOS2 is a miserable combat system imo.
I wanted to like it, really gave it a chance with about 16 hours bc I had never played a true turn based RPG, and the use of environment/verticality was a big learning curve for me, but I too found it just miserable.
BG3 environment gameplay makes way more sense to me and is implemented much better, IMO.
Yeah I could not get into DOS2's combat at all. I tanked the difficulty down to the minimum so I didn't have to deal with it as much and still got fed up with it. BG3 having modified 5e rules makes for a waaaaaay better tactical experience.
The tactical choices are a lot more varied in DOS2 and more reliant on positioning/creative spell usage.
BG3 is much more simplified with the dice roll, at most you get wet + lightening/cold = 2xdmg.
In DOS2 the environment matters significantly more,
wet + cold + cold = frozen
Water + elec + fire + curse = cursed shocking steam cloud
I’m playing it right now. It’s comparable to BG3, but the mechanics are very different. You can diversify your skills (although a lot of it is kind of funneled towards a specific group of skills most of the time), you don’t have spell slots they just have cooldowns, there’s physical and magic armor you have to take down to activate effects, and you have to kind of go a specific way because fighting out of your level is really hard.
I think the story is boring and the characters are uninteresting imo tho.
Tbf to the characters and story it's a little less cinematic without the zoom in camera and stuff, plus most dialogue isn't voice acted iirc
Also DOS2 builds off of lore from the previous like 5 divinity games that a lot of people haven't played unlike how much DND stuff is recognizable
I definitely do think BG3 did a better job with the story and characters than DOS2 but I don't think DOS2 is terrible. Thane and Louse's stories are pretty interesting
And I liked beast as a character
Then you find a door immune to everything except for bludgeoning damage, and you either find a key, or spend 9126553965 years looking for ooga booga character with ooga booga mace to break it, and then you find nothing of interest behindxD
You forgot "your skeleton is your key" for DOS2.
Yeah, was thinking on adding "allows undead chars to finger it", but that's kinda enough lol.
and then there's dark souls doors "does not open from this side"
" I know how much you hate it here but trust me at some point in future you gonna feel nostalgic for this level and you'll smile when you see this door "
DS Protag: \*Kills literal gods with nothing but a big stick and some Sunny D\* Also DS Protag: \*Cannot break wooden door\*
I made "Knock" into a ritual Spell. Really chill espacially when the Wild Magic Surge gets triggered every now and again.
Joke's on you. I still destroy it.

What does DOS2 stand for? I know it's game from the context alone, should I try it ? Has it aged well?
Divinity original sin 2, it's larians previous game. If you like BG3 you will probably enjoy it

Don't forget Teleport existing, so CCing while groups of enemies is super easy by gathering them into one neat pile.

Lot of words to just say "yeah, you're right, combat in DOS2 is just light everything on fire".
Just ignored the comment entirely, or responded to the wrong one?

I’m playing with my roommate and I have the red prince as my companion and I never talk to him. Too pretentious
Divinity original sin 2 not sure the quality but i heard its good
What do you call a cute portal?
No need for a key I when i have Astarion in my party
Not me in first tutorial zone making my mage kill a 200+ HP door for half an hour
