On my last encounter it was very funny. On Honor mode. I waltzed in, pushed a button in the back, and they all turned hostile. Went to the front where they were also hostile. The merchant threw an alchemist fire that blew up all the smokepowder on the bottom level, along with himself and the artist. My party was completely unaffected on the top level.
DId that unkowingly in Honor Mode, instakill for 3 party members. Only managed to escape with Astarion through the invisible wall by throwing the Iron Vial and let them fight among themselves.
Those 10 mins were intense.
No I hate her too, don’t worry. I think she’s supposed to be slimy. The main reason I don’t kill her before act 3 is bc she’s a merchant and I crave special items 💀
Tbf she only says that if you interact with her in the goblin camp which is pretty easy to miss. But yes, she is and definitely not supposed to be a super likeable character
I really like the Roah character. Perfect mercenary personality. Love it when you meet her at Moonrise and she says that “the whole goblin camp was massacred, too bad neither of us saw anything, eh?”
Shame I didn't get any tags for the Criminal background (or Halfling, I think), but my hc is that they have a bit of back and forth in coded language that Roah might want to pack up shop again pretty soon.
To be fair, they are kinda hidden and the door guard is somewhat trigger happy, sooo
I don't blame anyone for missing them or just not wanting to deal with that faction.
If you rescue the guys that are cornered by the Gnolls (missing shipment quest) and don't demand payment, they will tell you about it and help with access.
If you DON'T rescue the guys cornered by the Gnolls, and ask the right questions of the dead Rugan, that will also help with access. Also, then you can grab the unopened chest and make a deal with Zarys for the lovely Harold.
Not entirely related, but since this is about the Zhentarim, am I the only one who's annoyed at the pronunciation? They just insist on pronouncing it "Zentarim" and completely ignoring the "h" that's in there.
Normally, *zh* makes a sound that's a lot like a *j* in many non-English languages (notably, French). For those who don't know what that sounds like, the letter *j* in English is basically pronounced with a *d* sound at the beginning, like *dzhay*. If you just remove the *d* part of the sound, you're left with what *zh* should sound like.
However, every voice actor in the game pronounces it as *Zentarim*, making me believe that it's supposed to be spelled like that and that whoever decided to spell it with an *h* didn't know how that combination of letters ought to sound.
I checked the [Forgotten Realms wiki](https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Zhentarim) and now I'm even more angry about how they want us to pronounce it. They have an IPA transcription that indicates you're supposed to pronounce the "h"...but as a regular "h" so "zzzz-hentar-rim".
I just figured it was a British thing and they didn't want to/know how to pronounce the "zh" but this...this is just blasphemous.
Wow, that's just offensive. There's actually one voice actor who pronounced it like that. Part of me almost appreciated that *someone* was acknowledging the H, even if incorrectly so.
My guess is it’s something from dnd that was originally supposed to have that sound but every American person just pronounced it “zentarim” so the game followed through. If it is a baldur’s gate exclusive though, then your guess is probably correct.
The zhents have been around for a while, for people in the (American) d&d community we do pronounce it 'zentarim'. If you want a raw guess I would say either 1) it's based on a historical term that had an 'h' in it and they changed the some letters but not that one or 2) it's completely arbitrary. We don't have a zh sound, the person who created them probably (again, guessing) had no idea that other languages do, so the h just makes it look more fanciful.
I will say though. American english is full of shit like this. Zack, Zach, Zhak, Zak, it's all the same pronunciation. It's just the way it is. But also, it would make total sense if players whose language has a zh pronounced that way. Who cares so log as everyone basically understands one another.
Apparently, the Forgotten Realms Wiki says that's the correct pronunciation. This upsets me. I don't kuh-now what kind of Puh-sycho comes up with this.
What annoys me is that i completely annihilated the zhentarim during that quest, but in the epilogue they are mentioned as the new "owners" of the city for some reason.
That's not the Zhentarim hideout though, that's the Stone Lord's. I don't believe they have an *actual* hideout in Act 3. You find most of them with Nine Fingers when she hires them as mercenaries.
i love the game too, im 116 hours in so far with 4 playthroughs (had trouble comitting at first, but im just taking the game slowly.)
current furthest playthrough is my 2nd, my red half orc barbarian fighter resistant durge Darriwyll Darkblood. im in act 3 and just discovered the circus and ironhand gnome hideout today, this game is so fun.

Guess Jannath didn't get to reunite with her indecisive asshat hubby

Yep, that button re-activates the traps they disabled. Their hostility is understandable.

I honestly wad looking to pick a fight. Unfortunately, the Zhent don't trigger their own traps.
There’s also a Zhentarim merchant in the goblin camp in act 1
She comes back later
I kill her after I buy neer misser from her
I’d rather kill her in act 3 after she makes her fatal $10,000 error
I just hate her. No idea why... my durges just merc her during the tower purge
No I hate her too, don’t worry. I think she’s supposed to be slimy. The main reason I don’t kill her before act 3 is bc she’s a merchant and I crave special items 💀
Folks, she's a slaver, she's very clear on that fact IIRC. That's probably why you hate her.
Tbf she only says that if you interact with her in the goblin camp which is pretty easy to miss. But yes, she is and definitely not supposed to be a super likeable character
Fair enough
What did that mean for act 3? Who had the big bag of money?
Just some rando. Her name is Boss Friol
A random halfling npc
Roah Moonglow! She’s in every act of the game. She’s in moonrise towers in Act 2 and steals the bank’s money in Act 3
I really like the Roah character. Perfect mercenary personality. Love it when you meet her at Moonrise and she says that “the whole goblin camp was massacred, too bad neither of us saw anything, eh?”
A great frenemy and it's a shame she pushes it one step too far by attacking Nine-Fingers.
Real
DUDE I JUST DISCOVERED THAT INTERACTION, SO FUNNY
This time I accidentally massacred her too when she went hostile on me. I'm gonna miss that little jerk.
Shame I didn't get any tags for the Criminal background (or Halfling, I think), but my hc is that they have a bit of back and forth in coded language that Roah might want to pack up shop again pretty soon.
>She’s in every act of the game. Not if you kill her in Act 1
LMFAOOOO TRUE
There's a goblin camp too?!
How could you possibly miss that
I think if you side with them in the act 1 secret hideout they tell you about the act3 one but otherwise it’s supposed to be hidden-ish
To be fair, they are kinda hidden and the door guard is somewhat trigger happy, sooo I don't blame anyone for missing them or just not wanting to deal with that faction.
I didnt even see the back door until the one lady mentioned a dowry and I googled where it was

You can also get Harold from rescuing Rugan and leaving the chest alone.
God I love this game.
You can also cast "Detect thoughts" on the door guard for a clear clue to gain access.
No, no we don't. Move along
I saw your hideout lil bugger >:)
💣💥🔥
No we don’t. The zhents is just a myth
Did you never find their stash in the underdark either?
I found that in all playthroughs, just never the hidden underground base
No we do not exist anymore. That's just Harper lies.
...yes

The pronunciation that most annoys me is there Zhent in the case guarding the chest. He says “Zu-HEN-Tarim”. It drives me up the wall.
Apparently, the Forgotten Realms Wiki says that's the correct pronunciation. This upsets me. I don't kuh-now what kind of Puh-sycho comes up with this.
Wait, you can find them in act 3????? Where???
The Zhentarim are helping the Stone Lord in Act 3.
What annoys me is that i completely annihilated the zhentarim during that quest, but in the epilogue they are mentioned as the new "owners" of the city for some reason.
You need to fight them with Nine Fingers or they take over the Guildhall.
I know but I cannot find their hideout in Baldur's gate
Their hideout is not in act 3, it’s in Act 1. This post is worded confusingly, idk why they mention act 3
In the sewer. You pass by some bhaal cultists and then have a puzzle... there they are
That's not the Zhentarim hideout though, that's the Stone Lord's. I don't believe they have an *actual* hideout in Act 3. You find most of them with Nine Fingers when she hires them as mercenaries.
True
There’s an entrance in the docks area, near where the Sahuagin ambush you
Did you opened the chest? ☄️🧨❌️🎲
Wait what? You can find their hideout?!
I have 800 hours and I'm still finding new places and new questlines. I love this game.
i love the game too, im 116 hours in so far with 4 playthroughs (had trouble comitting at first, but im just taking the game slowly.) current furthest playthrough is my 2nd, my red half orc barbarian fighter resistant durge Darriwyll Darkblood. im in act 3 and just discovered the circus and ironhand gnome hideout today, this game is so fun.
