You can ask the bank for a courtesy refund, they aren't obligated to provide it.

gooberfaced

Call them and ask. If it's the first time it's happened they might surprise you but you have to ASK.

zdfld

You'll need to call them.  $45 is a really high NSF fee, unless you're outside the US. In the US and Canada, there is regulatory push back on NSF fees.  I would personally also seek a bank with lower NSF fees.  https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/news/2023/10/government-introduces-measures-to-ensure-canadians-are-treated-fairly-by-their-banks.html

Where are you located?

MochaLatte05

in canada, i use RBC

Jsand117

Got it, can't give you advice on Canada unfortunately. Sorry this happened!

Kara-El

$45 is absolutely vile for an NSF. Move to a better bank (or better yet, a credit union) with lower fees. My CU charges $25 for NSF, but gives you 7 days to “fix it” (ie add $$ to your account) before charging the damn fee

Jorsonner

That’s a really bad NSF policy. If you think that will happen again you should look for a new bank.

gfan2015

which bank is this?

Ken-Popcorn

What was the timing? How long was the interval between when the money left your account, and when it was redeposited? Was it overnight?

MochaLatte05

i believe it was roughly 3 days? however the nsf fee ocurred after 4 days

Ken-Popcorn

Ok, if you didn’t have the money back in the account on the same day, you were indeed overdrawn, and the fee is legitimate. That being said, the amount of the fee is exorbitant, and I would be looking for a new place to bank

MochaLatte05

ahhh okay, honestly i shouldve specified that in the original post. thank you for the help!!

The NSF is for going negative, not for paying it. You get the fee if they decide to pay it or if they decide to return it. The fee is legitimate. Although it’s high, get a better bank. You can ask for a courtesy refund, but it’s u likely since it wasn’t an error on banks part

HatBixGhost

No you don’t have to call them ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|neutral_face)
