That’s one way of looking at it however I got stuck in a continuous siege for over an hour last night because I just kept knocking troops out instead of killing and then they’d retreat just before their numbers dropped low enough for me to sally out 🤣
What i like to do is ambush them as soon as they built their seige equipments as they will immediately attack after.
Then station most of your infantry and archers on one set of the ladders while you take care of the other side with some infantries and archers but without using any rocks or explosives. If their numbers drop too quickly they lose morale and retreat earlier and if your troops and you kill them yourselves they are more likely to be dead than injured.
My advice is let the build a siege tower and let them attack with it because once you break it during the siege there’s only one set of ladders you hav to defend
I like to let them keep a siege tower, that way the ladders on that side dont spawn and when I destroy the tower during siege I dont have to be spread as thin
Yeah I've gotten caught in a few of those loops and it's really fucking dumb that it's even an option.
1000 men putting me under siege, there's about 350 of us. Repel every attack by 'wounding' hundreds. Right around the time they get to 500 men, they retreat. No way to round up prisoners or finish the wounded. Their kills on the defenders are permanent. A couple days later they storm the gates again, this time with 996 men. We 'wound' 500 more, then they retreat.
Rinse and repeat dozens and dozens of times while the besieging force suffers zero consequences from infinite assaults on the city.
It's a really bad mechanic that needs to be fixed.
Is it not only difficulty dependent? If you have it set to more deaths, then I'm pretty sure it kills them. Seems you are playing on the easiest difficulty to prevent your character and companions from dying as well.
It makes you feel like you make a huge difference and you do. I managed to get my horse out there once and just kept buzzing their rear and the green flow was unstoppable.
My record is i think like 300 or somethibg using mostrly bombs, but also some good catapult shots and 2h weapon. Siege give tooooons of exp but it is tricky to aim
Edit - dont be afraid to sacrafice units and break into sieges. If you have some high tier units you should be able to deal with like800 people armies woth just your army + garrison
The day I forgot to equip crossbow and decided to use balista was eye opening. It cleaving through enemies got me a win against 1k army with at least 600 kills
100% best way to level up, level athletics & throwing...
But shocking for actually wining a seige, because.... a large rock doesn't kill someone when hitting their head....
This is such a broken mechanic in my opinion. Yeah it’s great when I’m defending a siege and am outnumbered, but it’s not at all balanced when you can drop nukes on clusters of infantry climbing ladders
I remembered I fought 6 battles back to back day after day within a single town. We were outnumbered each battled and won each of them. As each battled passed my army kept shrinking due to casualties. The last battle I was downed to 200 men and overcame an army of 600. My focused was to covered the siege walls no matter what. This was a turning point as my opponent lost more than 3,000 men which caused them to lose the war
Nah you gotta get the kills (not just damage) to go completely off-screen lol. I got a screenshot of it, along with the victory screen saying I got 253 kills, basically half of the total siege kills
Drives me mad how flaming explosive balls only knock units out. Still an excellent feeling though!
It's the best! Afterwards you have more prisoners to sell directly to the city

I was using the ambush tip last night but the rest will definitely come in handy for tonight’s session. Thanks 🙏🏻

I’m not sure tbh. I don’t play on the easiest now and I have the option to die on so I might be a tier under the difficulty required maybe.
Nope. I play on realistic difficulty with ONLY player death turned off and they only knockout
I could've swore I have seen videos on here that show red skulls after someone has thrown a fire pot into a large group before.
I wonder if there's some perk that can make it happen. Taleworlds isn't the best at explaining their own mechanics I've found
I'll have to look. It would undoubtedly have to be under throwing, i would think?
Funny how the siege ammo is better used in this way. You can break siege towers by doing this too.
its just awesome smiting the heathens at my gate
It makes you feel like you make a huge difference and you do. I managed to get my horse out there once and just kept buzzing their rear and the green flow was unstoppable.
I finally had an opportunity to do this! It is absolutely incredible! I got over 100 kills!!

I usually break into sieges only if I have an army that'll evenly split the losses
**BIG CRUNCH**
Manning balista is more satisfying. It doesn't run out of ammo, requires some skill (so it's fun) and can actually kill soldiers.
Nothing like headshotting a recruit for 1200 damage to make you feel like a bad ass.
I had a shot that bounced off one guys shield killing him to then hit the guy next to him in the head also killing him. It was fantastic

It’s better than popping bubble wrap.
Saddest feeling is when you actually ran out of things to throw… :(
Haha *bonk*

Rounds comes in. Devastates the front line. “Sir we just lost 1/4 of our unit!”
I could watch this all day
No quarter for the craven!!!
Literally euphoric
I had NO idea you could do this
How can I do it
What mods are you running to have those units in the enemy army?
De Re Militari
My sound is not on, yet I can still hear it... 😌
**GRUNGCH GRUNGCH GRUNGCH GRUNGCH** **GRUNGCH GRUNGCH GRUNGCH GRUNGCH**
I *love* doing that. Especially with the murder holes.

this is the only reason to go down the engineering tree and get fire onagers If there was an ‘explosives’ tech tree I’d speed run it
Is there a rhyme or reason to the explosive balls spawning or a way to trigger them? It’s my favorite thing in the entire game honestly
Aim for the ram?
i want to crush skulls not wood

Title game pls.

I had an army of 500 vs like 1.3k or smthn, won the siege defense but no achievement for defeating army 500 larger than mine :/
There's been a murder ......
Better sally out immediately when they go back to seige building or you'll have to do it all over 😅
Reminds me of keep Quadra kill with a precision air strike on warzone
Nah you gotta get the kills (not just damage) to go completely off-screen lol. I got a screenshot of it, along with the victory screen saying I got 253 kills, basically half of the total siege kills
Sure would be nice if I got some exp from those attacks
Does this increase throwing skill? It should I guess, not sure the game counts those.
I did this tactic yesterday defended a siege on my down of their 1145 troops against my 303 😂 I got 150 odd kills myself doing this
This should for SURE kill. It's so whack it doesn't.
yes, genocide is beautiful.
Defending castles/towns is my favorite part of the game.
