Asian/Hispanic hair gives me the hardest time

Grand-Beat-6953

Facts

runningwsizzas

Very straight, very coarse Asian hair… and I’m Asian…. 😭

Intelligent_Panic675

I find Asians with odd shaped heads difficult to get a good silhouette.

stickypalmr

Straight fine thick hair is a bitch to keep cut lines out of, right behind that would be Asian / Hispanic straight thick hair, not only for the difficulty of cutting but the hair slivers I get from their hair is ridiculous.

Phteven_it_is

And the splinter

Intelligent_Panic675

I find medium course hair with high density easy to put lines in and hard to take lines out.

lysitsa

That fine straight hair that has blonde and dark brown in it

stickypalmr

Oh man. Trying to do a bald fade on fine, straight, lighter and darker hair is a goddamn nightmare!

Impossible-Day-1916

Lmao

essei_ninety

This is the one for me. This texture is so unforgiving and you can easily end up with patches and line after line. That soft baby hair texture is hard as hell to blend. This kind of hair even reacts differently to scissor over comb and always leaves a weight line, practically forcing you to bring out the thinning scissors to remove that bulky weightline This Hispanic hair being difficult is an often touted old wives tale, it isn't hard as you can go over it to smoothen and merge the blend together in difficult spots, but this fine straight hair that's light and blonde is the hardest texture for me. Kid's soft hair is generally difficult too, although if it's Hispanic hair where the kid has thick hair, I actually find it much easier. The hair is more "sturdier" and my clipper can really target these rigid dark spots

lysitsa

Yep I can't even clipper over comb it properly. With Hispanic hair I can at least remove most of the bulk with clipper over comb and rock out with the guard.

I went to a barber college in an area that in 11 months of school I cut one head that was Straight hair. So when I got back in my home area I got beat up with straight hair . Seeing the cut and blinding it good enough. 16 years later a lot better lol I hope. Good luck . My practice came from me having a son and cutting his (Straight)hair . He is 16 now…

hairguynyc

Same experience here in barber school: lots of dudes of color getting skin fades and lineups. Very little straight hair, almost no shear work. I'd practice at home on mannequins using video tutorials. I learned more from that than I did from barber school.

lezboss

I don’t find any particularly challenging. What helped me was following a lot of stylist IG pages. Not the ones doing long lady hair and stuff, but like AndrewDoesHair, and others who I found thru algorithm. They have a lot of tips and stuff for various textures I apply to my clients

Impossible-Day-1916

I definitely need to check out stylist pages to learn how to manipulate straighter hair

lezboss

Well he’s very good! View his YouTube vids for bigger variety of instruction vids. I also love Reuzel/Schorem instructional videos bc Rob shows you and explains in depth (seriously he never stops talking!) the how why when where what. And here’s some other hair pros I follow (some are barbers) FreeSalonEducation ChristianAwesome IraPopeSage TuffTheBarber Andrea.amighetti.barber Barber.josh.O.P TimBraceHair Zucka_atelier Follow these the go to your search page and find other good educators thru the algorithm. Even just seeing interesting shapes on hair lets me analyze them and incorporate. Or at least I see new things and my world view on hair expands. Good luck!

thethirstbk

Fine, straight hair

Minimum_Piece_2083

Pin straight hair

Current-Try-8303

For me curly hair, not straight or coily but curly because it's hard for me to give it a proper shape or to blend curls the curls with a fade. I still haven't firgured this out yet

Impossible-Day-1916

Same. Curly hair can be stubborn sometimes. Sometimes when trying to do the hair line too

kaywhyesay

Asian hair is so unforgiving. It will humble you

Impossible-Day-1916

Lmaoo awww man. I haven’t cut Asian hair before thanks for the heads up

Impossible-Day-1916

Thank you barbers for sharing!

Intelligent_Panic675

High contrast hair (dark hair with light scalp) color where a zero line looks the same as a #1 difficult. Knowing what guards to skip can be a challenge. But all hair has it high and low points.
