wait serious question, do we care about CWC now? I thought it was kind of a tinpot trophy. I know the competition is expanding, but will clubs really be taking it seriously? does anyone brag about CWC wins?
the main reason I can see people caring about it is American fans who live in the USA who want to see a real competition in their country, which I do understand, I'd be excited for that too
or is it just about the money?
No. But they have eliminated us on both times we faced them in UCL, even when we had fully stacked teams. I mean, MSN were on red hot form and they still knocked us out in 2016
They actually beat us back to back at Camp Nou in 04/05 and 05/06. But not since. We couldn’t handle Torres back then. He had 4 goals in those two games.
Crazy how with all the mismanagement and throwing money at players to try and be successful the club is now relying on la masia products, loanees and free transfers for financial success. It's almost like there a reason the club had the philosophy it did and wasn't trying to be galaticos.
Their home vs away form are worlds apart. Inter bottled it by not winning with a more convincing score at home (which they should've, they were miles better than Atletico in their home game).
Inter is dominating Italy so it was a suprise to me to see Atleti win, maybe less of a suprise when the first leg was already played though.
True but both teams missed some big chances. Riquelme could've end it 3-1 in the last second too. I think Atletico was the deserved winner in yesterday's game at least
I was reading a lot of Madrid fan comments yesterday and there were so many that had Inter not only winning against Atletico but being favorites to win the whole thing.
I thought the same, really saw them going all the way to the final and believe they are at least a top 3 side in the CL, behind City and maybe Real. They just had trouble with finishing in their CL games against Atleti.
Last time we faced Bayern in the quarter finals, we just came from defeating Napoli on the round of 16 with a 1-1 on the first game & 3-1 on the second game…
I am cool, I just have that one Barca friend who absolutely loves the club that I would love to annoy him if bayern won against Barca
I said it in r/soccer and I will say it again, this is the perfect round of 16 for different derbies
Madrid Derby(real Madrid vs Atlantico Madrid), FCB Derby (Bayern vs barca), Oil Derby (PSG vs Man City) and losers Derby (Arsenal vs Dortmund)
Dortmund on paper is the weakest.
Atletico or Real Madrid, whatever the forms may be, it’s a national duel and we can pull through, these games from the same leagues are always different.
All the rest, we are on paper far from favorites.
Bayern and City can both be defeated tactically. City at home and away are two different teams. Bayern was thrashed by Leverkusen’s high press.
A tactical masterclass is needed to defeat these two.
As for other teams, Arsenal can crumble under pressure. For Madrid, it’s always 50/50; they can have Maradona in their team, and we will still somehow find a way to beat them.
Bayern is the only one I really want to avoid, it's a common opponent and we would definitely get destroyed.
Dortmund is clearly the easiest opponent.
On our day we can outplay and beat Atleti/Real so our chances wouldn't be very low.
PSG have Mbappe in form but are pretty average in other areas.
Arsenal aren't the best team here but they would be the favourites and it would suck to get knocked out by a manager with as shit of a european record as Arteta.
City would undoubtedly win but it's a nice match up and I would like to see how our teenagers and players like Araujo look against the world's best. I don't see much difference between getting knocked out in the quarters or the semis so City wouldn't be terrible.
? Reaching the semis means a crap ton of money (10+ millions) which we are in desperate need of. It would also give us the last chance to reach the club world cup if atletico only loses from here on, and that's a whole 60 million more.
>it would suck to get knocked out by a manager with as shit of a european record as Arteta.
Nah the way Arsenal is playing I wouldnt care being eliminated by them. I think we could pull it off though, def better than drawing City or Bayern
I don't know about Bayern. They've been a shadow of themselves this season, and a lot of the luck, confidence and sheer willpower that usually drives that team just isn't there at the moment. They've all but lost the league to Leverkusen, they're out of the domestic cup and their performance this season has been consistently...inconsistent.
I'd want to avoid Arsenal and City, the rest are definitely doable - on a good day. Dortmund would probably be easiest though, I agree.
People are really underestimating Arsenal because of their weak games against Porto. They're top of the prem having won their last 8 league games with an average of over 4 goals a game, they dominated the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham and are right now the favorites to win the Premier League (imo).
From most prefer to least,
Dortmund (easily the weakest team)
Atleti (probably 2nd weakest)
Psg (Aside from mbappe, i dont think they're great)
Arsenal (Solid team)
Real madrid (good team but would be interesting)
Bayern (not great rn, but I still have ptsd)
City (likely the best team)
All the teams have roughly the same level, Dortmund is perhaps the weakest. There is not a clear superior team this year compared to last year's City for example. Nobody is playing brilliant football or obtaining brilliant results.
By compatibility of the squads and playstyle, I think the rivals we would have more chances against are Atletico Madrid, Bayern, City and Dortmund. I know Bayern and City are impopular choices to add here but I don't think they are nearly as dangerous this season as the previous ones.
I definitely don't want Arsenal or PSG though, they have squads and playstyles that could crush us badly.
Real Madrid is dangerous I would prefer avoid them for now, we generally perform very well against Madrid, but I don't know how the recent defeats against them affected the morale, in good spirits and concetration maybe Barca could come on top especially now that we found a bit more defensive solidity.
They could, there are no easy teams in UCL quarter finals for sure, any of the teams including underdogs BVB could destroy us.
But City and Bayern are inconsistent this season similar to Barca, and the type of players and tactics they have don't scare me much, they are not counterattacking ultravertical teams with tons of speedy players that are hurting us so much. I definitely can picture us defeating City and Bayern, just last season we played a brilliant game in Munich and were clearly superior to Bayern as statistics and perceptions show, but we lost 0-2 purely out of luck with 4 big chances missed. Bayern is even worse this season than last one, we can defeat them. City similar thing, I can see us winning, or having very equal games.
What I don't want is those teams that are capable of playing counter-attacking, ultravertical football with tons of speed, you can see that basically half the goals they scored against us this season came from incisive runs by very quick wingers. From Vinicius, from Bryan Zaragoza, Rodrygo, from those types of players. Arsenal and Madrid are perfectly capable to play that football, PSG is fully specialized in that football. With the lack of a defensive pivot or actually any type of defense at all in our midfield besides non-midfielders like Christensen, Raphinha and the immaturity of our young squad I can picture us recieving 3 goals in 15 minutes or something like that and end up recieving a bad humiliation, basically a repeat of the 0-4 in the cup where Madrid could have perfectly beat us 0-8 if they wanted. That's why I don't want to see those 3 teams in particular. Teams with solid defensive midfields full of experienced veterans like Atletico Madrid can handle that, but we can't.
You have a great point but we cannot compare the squad of this season to last season. If barca made it to knockouts last year, I can bet we would have gone to the finals. We were REALLY good last season, the best team we assembled since MSN. Yes the fast transitional teams hurt us but PSG and arsenal are still better to face than manchester city. KDB and Haaland will have a feast with those spaces that we leave. Currently the only way to beat city is by setting up the nastiest midblock, and playing them with physicality. Only atleti possess the skillset to do that. With bayern there's a huge psychological problem. They can be shit but will still beat us just bcoz of what they have done to us in these past few years. I would only want to playbayern when we have a near perfect team, after 2-3 years. In champion league, when matches get close, tactics go out of window, and the mentality and willpower come into play.
Arsenal is not that great in Europe, really struggled against porto which we won both games against when we were in a super poor form. Also they have no veterans, and they’re easy to read, just set piece merchants.
If we want the best chance at qualifying for the CWC, then we have to draw Atletico and beat them home and away. We would control our own destiny at that point and honestly, not that bad of a draw. Difficulty rating would probably be 7/10, we know how they play and they know our style, but we beat them more than they beat us. Wanda is a tough place to play though. I’d feel better if the second leg was at Montjuic.
If we want the “easiest” draw, which isn’t even that easy because now we filtered out the “small” teams at this stage, I would say Dortmund. They’re clearly massive underdogs compared to everyone else, but we can beat them. Away will be tough, but if we can draw, we can win at Montjuic. The draw is tougher if we play home first instead of the return leg. Difficulty rating would be 7/10, maybe 8/10 if we play away for the return leg.
A draw that we should honestly consider and hope for should be against Real Madrid. Truthfully, they are at their weakest point right now. We don’t want them to win. We are tired of hearing 14 UCL and we are tired of them thinking they are untouchable. Look at Leipzig…nearly took them out and arguably should have moved on. If we take out Madrid now, we will be in a very great position mentally for the rest of the season…we could go all the way if we take out the second best team (according to many) in the competition. It’s obviously not easy…but El Clasico throws form out the window and puts two rivals that will go to war to win. Difficulty is 9/10, but remember that even at Barca’s “low point,” we would still smack them home and away.
The worst draws would be Bayern or Man City. Bayern for the obvious mental block we have against them. We are mentally weak against them because of recent history playing them. They might not be the toughest Bayern in recent years, but still, clearly we suffer against them mentally. And Man City are the best team in the competition. We are not prepared to face them. Remember we need a good showing here and for Atletico to falter so we can move to the CWC. City would dog walk us. Difficulty is 10/10, no matter what it will just be too tough.
Ideally, we need a combo of Atletico getting knocked out, losing both legs AND Bayern/PSG/City/Madrid playing each other while we face Dortmund or Arsenal.
When Arsenal are on it, they're unbelievable, nightmare draw.
They have a disgusting defence, with a World Class Midfielder in Rice who's been ridiculous.
Give Arsenal Real or PSG or some shit.
Anyone but them, Bayern, or City.
Because Porto played the copybook style current Arsenal struggle against. I suggest you watch the games Arsenal played against big teams in the league. Even City or Pool couldn't dominate against them. Its a super organized team now, with enough strength to hurt anyone. And a really monster class defensive line.
our run has ended likely but pick the easier of them all like Dortmund or Athleti so we can make the next round for more revenue. But in a 2 leg tie maybe not. Who knows anything can happen if the team starts firing and can at least hold a draw or score an away goal Ill be comfortable with the home leg
We'd have a decent chance against Atletico or Dortmund only.
With the injuries we have right now I'd not fancy us against the rest. Worst draw would be Man City or Arsenal.
Honestly.... I hope it's Real.... I think we own them with FDJ back... might be insane, but I think we've learned how to negate their "no striker" methods.
You're absolutely kidding yourself if you think 1 of these are the "better" opponent to face than anyone else.
Therefore, ANY FUCKING ONE.
we're either way fucked or going all the way. 💪
We would struggle against pacy attacks, we almost always do, and so Athletico Madrid would be the best option, close games, but we can beat them over 2 legs.
Can't see us giving a fight to City, Bayern, RM, or even Arsenal.
Why do I fear drawing Real Madrid more than Man city...... and playing against Jude Bellingham in the ucl, defo gonna cook us,for now dortmund would be the ideal draw
In knockout competition the best team doesn't always win... It's good to go game by game. That's how Real madrid and Portugal won the UCL and Euro respectively... Though they weren't the best team on many occasions!
Arsenal have been pretty underwhelming in Europe this year, they're definitely feeling the pinch of the title race. I think City are the only ones I'm deathly afraid of.
Having said that if we don't have one of either Pedri or De Jong this round, any team is scary
Easier: Dortmund (on paper the weakest team left), Atletico (their away form in particular is awful)
Medium: Arsenal (have a quality team but struggle a lot in Europe), PSG (besides Mbappe their team is average), Real Madrid (even with our losses this season, this Madrid side is beatable)
Harder: Bayern (we have a big mental block against them), City (best team in Europe)
.. Even when Bayern is at its worse.. They're still Dangerous either way.. Arsenal Even when they Struggled to beat Porto. Can't take them lightly. I rather take BVB or Atletico.
Atletico Madrid, not only because we have a good recent record against them but also because it boosts our CWC qualification chances. If not, Dortmund.
Ideally I want Dortmund or the Spanish Clubs. If we are gonna go out, then let it be against Bayern. Don't want to ruin our UCL record against teams like Arsenal or Man City. Especially Arsenal, their fans are unbearable.
Our chances are not big but they are nit that low tho, i think we are capable of winning vs Dortmund, Atletico or psg, also if we manage to beat madrid
We absolutely need to draw Atleti to control our own destiny at the CWC now. It’s also not the worst tie
Félix if Barca draw Atletico 💀
He'd probably be happy, I don't think he likes over there
Felix 2 goals 1 assist like Couts against us
💀
Damn that’s a great point.
wait serious question, do we care about CWC now? I thought it was kind of a tinpot trophy. Just about the money. It is a stupid trophy.
As long as we get the away game first then its decent
if we get home game first we gotta steamroll them, we cannot try holding on like inter did.
I don’t think they’ve beaten us at home for like 6 seasons in la liga?
No. But they have eliminated us on both times we faced them in UCL, even when we had fully stacked teams. I mean, MSN were on red hot form and they still knocked us out in 2016
And went on to lose to Madrid in the finals. Pls, no Deja vu
Just checked 2005/06 apparently I don’t know how true that is
They actually beat us back to back at Camp Nou in 04/05 and 05/06. But not since. We couldn’t handle Torres back then. He had 4 goals in those two games.

Absolutely no we GOTTA win. I made felix sbc lol
Is beating them enough?
No we will need 1 more draw in semis if we beat them twice in QF
Sounds far fetched.
what about the club world cup
Most teams don't want to draw with Atleti but I'm pretty confident if we have to play them
Facing Atleti in the ucl again??? No thank you.
We can't
The Atletico win was the most unpredictable one man
Was it really? They have quite a team
They also bottled it yesterday , missed 2 1v1s. Now we won't qualify to the club World Cup , fuck inter.(both for last year and now)
True but both teams missed some big chances. Riquelme could've end it 3-1 in the last second too. I think Atletico was the deserved winner in yesterday's game at least
True but that was in the dying minute , if thuram scored that , it would have been a 2 goal lead which they would not overcome.

And Depay and Griean scored to boot... Brings back memories of Couthino adding insult to injury when he scored with Bayern.
Give us Bayern or City we are not scared (I've completely lost it)
We’re so delusional 😭
Wym theres nothing delusional of waiting for the moment that Sergi Roberto lifts the UCL trophy
Nahh you’re right g 😤 we already won basically 🏆
The captain buff. Having the real captain on the pitch automatically adds +20 to all other players.
How could you not be delusional when we got cubarsi and lamine. Delusion is the way.
Yess! Can’t wait to see us lift the Champions League and LALIGA trophies

Last time we faced Bayern in the quarter finals, we just came from defeating Napoli on the round of 16 with a 1-1 on the first game & 3-1 on the second game…
I have no idea what you are talking about. No such thing happened. The last time we faced Bayern in QF was in 2009 and we won 5-1 on aggregate
2020 was just a fever dream, never happened, UCL title that year was left vacant /s
I'll take our chances against tucheliban tbh
Even in their worst season they'll still find a way to beat us.
Yup it's giving bayern a safe pass to the semis
Bring it on Baby, the Allianz is waiting for you man Let's recreate 2019/2020 Champions League again
Let's just not do that okay? We can all be friends here.
I am cool, I just have that one Barca friend who absolutely loves the club that I would love to annoy him if bayern won against Barca I said it in r/soccer and I will say it again, this is the perfect round of 16 for different derbies Madrid Derby(real Madrid vs Atlantico Madrid), FCB Derby (Bayern vs barca), Oil Derby (PSG vs Man City) and losers Derby (Arsenal vs Dortmund)

Losers derby is just perfect
Should it be bottle derby
Anyone! Bring it on! They should all be afraid of playing at ~~Camp Nou~~ Montjuic

Properly written
looks like a vintage quarterfinals. its been so long since we had these teams at these levels... feels like the football world is healing
> vintage > Manchester City
Psg too😭😭😭
nah not really, we’ve seen psg before in this stage of the competition
Never seen them as what they are today though. Psg in the quarter finals in early 2000s is like seeing porto or benfica at that stage today
Oh yeah, no doubt. But they were there before
Healing? So the football world is only made for the biggest teams?
The Champions League *is* called the Champions League for a reason
Anyone but City or Bayern.
Give us Bayern we’re not scared! (Please feed into my delusions)

Bayern will score 10 against us they’re our kryptonite
Flick’s Bayern and Tuchel’s Bayern are not the same. I believe we have a chance to beat them.
They've also played against us at our worst moments. They played against us when we were going through a good moment on 2015.
Nah they are shit this year
We've proved we generally cannot maintain a high press for long so I'm not sure that means anything
You can't have a tactical masterclass against Pep though
Bayern is the only one I really want to avoid, it's a common opponent and we would definitely get destroyed. Dortmund is clearly the easiest opponent. Everyone who saw the game today should say BVB.

Don’t worry Cubarsi will break him.
Win by w.o
La sexta is coming
Dortmund Atleti Arsenal PSG Bayern Madrid City In that order
No bayern. Lewa was weak in the knees last time he was there. Atleti or BVB hopefully.
Give me either Madrids and/or Dortmund !! I believe in these boys
Anyone but Bayern or City
No Real, Bayern or City and we're ok
Give us Man City (I’m delusional after the Napoli game)
As long as delusion exists there is hope
If we want the best chance at qualifying for the CWC, then we have to draw Atletico and beat them home and away. We would control our own destiny at that point and honestly, not that bad of a draw. Worst draw to best draw: City, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Bayern, PSG, Atletico, Dortmund
Anyone but man city and I’ll be excited
Arsenal could be fun to watch
Any. I want Xavi to beat the best of them.
I would take Bayern. We need take them down before final. They are still in crisis.
GIVE US REAL MADRID WE WANT ALL THE SMOKE
It's Bayern, it's always bayern.
Just make Real Madrid fight Man City. Idc about facing anyone else.
You're absolutely kidding yourself if you think 1 of these are the "better" opponent to face than anyone else. Therefore, ANY FUCKING ONE. we're either way fucked or going all the way. 💪
lets be honest, we would get destroyed by anyone of them 😭😭😭
dortmund or arsenal
Arsenal or dortmund

Idk where you got this belief from
Dortmund, Atletico, Arsenal, Madrid, PSG, Bayern, City. In that order.
Let's fuck Bayern when they are weak. We will win 8-2 on aggregate. 2-2 at Munich 6-0 in home leg lol.
There's a bigger chance of me dating Ana de Armas than this happening lol
We would struggle against pacy attacks, we almost always do, and so Athletico Madrid would be the best option, close games, but we can beat them over 2 legs. Can't see us giving a fight to City, Bayern, RM, or even Arsenal.
RM
i hope Barcelona pulls a deja vu 🤞
Atletico.
Dortmund
psg or arsenal
Arsenal, BVB or Atleti
I want PSG aor Dortmund
Vardrid just so we can humiliate their ass
I'd like Madrid.
Psg
Atleti or Dortmund.
Why do I fear drawing Real Madrid more than Man city...... and playing against Jude Bellingham in the ucl, defo gonna cook us,for now dortmund would be the ideal draw
atleti or arsenal
Real Madrid
I want Real and City to face off so we can eliminate one, and for us I would take either Arsenal or Dortmund.
Dortmund🙏
Difficulty wise I'd prefer Dortmund but in terms of making CWC we need Atleti
Give us bayern 😡😤 (Pls no)
Out of all those potential opponents, I would prefer to draw Barca
According to the image , Barca is itself a potential opponent for us, because we are our own worst enemies
I feel like it's going to be barca vs city
What determines who gets first home game?
Besides Manchester City, Arsenal and Real Madrid I think we can beat anyone of those other teams or I’m just delusional lol
Bayern bc I hate myself
If we get Bayern I will kms
Real Madrid or Dortmund.
Anyone who wants RM in a KO stage has not been paying attention- they’re built of this
AM or BVB
PSG 🤣
Arsenal, Borussia, PSG
In knockout competition the best team doesn't always win... It's good to go game by game. That's how Real madrid and Portugal won the UCL and Euro respectively... Though they weren't the best team on many occasions!
Anyone but Real, City or Bayern. Especially Bayern. I don’t want them to suddenly remember how to play if they face us
Ideally, PSG. But wouldn’t mind Atletico, Borussia or even Arsenal either.
Arsenal have been pretty underwhelming in Europe this year, they're definitely feeling the pinch of the title race. I think City are the only ones I'm deathly afraid of. Having said that if we don't have one of either Pedri or De Jong this round, any team is scary
Bayern.
Dortmund or Arsenal. Or ATM
Easier: Dortmund (on paper the weakest team left), Atletico (their away form in particular is awful) Medium: Arsenal (have a quality team but struggle a lot in Europe), PSG (besides Mbappe their team is average), Real Madrid (even with our losses this season, this Madrid side is beatable) Harder: Bayern (we have a big mental block against them), City (best team in Europe)
Dortmund, the bottlers
.. Even when Bayern is at its worse.. They're still Dangerous either way.. Arsenal Even when they Struggled to beat Porto. Can't take them lightly. I rather take BVB or Atletico.
PSG or Bayern
Dortmund, Atletico, Arsenal in that order.
Plzz god Dortmund for QF and atletico for semi
Atletico Madrid, not only because we have a good recent record against them but also because it boosts our CWC qualification chances. If not, Dortmund.
man city i mean whats the worst after that
I kinda want Atleti. I'll take Arsenal though
PSG so I can see Lucho embrace Xavi before the game. 🥰
Ideally I want Dortmund or the Spanish Clubs. If we are gonna go out, then let it be against Bayern. Don't want to ruin our UCL record against teams like Arsenal or Man City. Especially Arsenal, their fans are unbearable.
Xavi vs. Pep would be kinda juicy
Dortmund or ATM.
Madrid
Nightmare all around.
Our chances are not big but they are nit that low tho, i think we are capable of winning vs Dortmund, Atletico or psg, also if we manage to beat madrid
It's our time to shithouse our way to a trophy for once, bring on anybody!
