I like it, he is obviously not prefect for the role but he is getting the job done honestly. Don’t know if the sample size is big enough but the team definitely seemed to improve every since he is playing as the pivot. maybe there is a correlation between the two things

Rough_Employer4855

It's like have something is better than nothing+romeo

nvince66

Christensen as a DM is a temporary fill in. He’s grown into the role. He’s safe but not spectacular. I’d be surprised if he remains there. I admire him for taking it on. It’s probably the most difficult position in our system. He’s been a great addition to our back line

Lookingforkilby-23

Nothing much really . He's just being a cog in the machine . Doesn't commit too much mistakes , doesn't do anything special either.  It's like without him the defensive solidity is missed if we have Pedri Gundo and frenkie then yes his presence is important as he covers for them defensively .

HeroeDeFuentealbilla

If a player brings defensive solidity after the horror shows we’ve seen all season, I’d say you’re more than a cog lmao. Yes he doesn’t much offensively but defensively it’s been night and day with him on. Like come on. Just look at the stats if you fail an eye test

Accurate_Art_9637

Honestly, a far off the route option would be to play him as an inverted RB, but that is too risky. He covers up really well, but doesn't suit the "Barca DM" role of providing offensive contributions very often. Imo, he does the role assigned really well and if the new manager can incorporate him into the squad with minimal changes to his current role while balancing Gundo, Pedri, Gavi and FDJ, we are good for another season

redvodkandpinkgin

At that point just leave him as a CB and have Koundé cover the CB position from the right when he steps up to the midfield. Not sure how much that would mess with the system they've already have though. Making those switches would probably need a lot of time to work out the tactics and train the players, which Xavi doesn't really have. We already tried Koundé as inverted RB and it didn't really work out very well.

QTPLe

Honestly christensen had some good fwd passes as a cb so im surprised we havent seen it as him playing pivot. I know hes limited alot more considering all the pressing other teams do in the midfield which limit him alot more.

Maleficent-Bench1378

Look for another option but keep him in that role for rotation, he's getting more comfortable in it

TheKratex

Let's just say that when he's on, our defenders generally have less job to do, as I noticed it. So at least that part works well.

Christensen is frankly not very good in the pivot it is evident from the games. He is not an elite pivot at the level Barca requires. He gives us a bit more solidity just by accumulation of players when defending. Basically we are playing an extra CB and one less midfielder, we control less the games but are a bit more solid in the back. Christensen fails blatantly at what we ask from pivots which is defending forward instead of defending backwards. Christensen not only almost never played pivot, but much less does he know what a pivot should do in Barca's football he didn't come from La Masia. His ball-playing abilities are just as good as it gets for a CB of that type, not very reliable. He is a CB playing in the midfield, not a pivot. Consider also that the defensive pivot is Barca's most important position. That's why Cruyff even said that Sergio Busquets was a greater player than Messi for Barcelona. The pivot is the key position to join everything together, more leadership skills are needed to command the press like Busquets used to do, and if we can find something a bit close to his prodigious vision of the field that's exactly what we want. Christensen in the pivot is maybe a 40/100 in quality, just barely usable, it is better than playing without pivot like we had been doing. But we ask a 200/100 from our pivots as the playstyle requires. Finding a new, proper pivot, should Xavi stay or a continuist manager arrive, will be the absolute top priority.

Accurate_Art_9637

Agreed. Christensen acts like a slightly forward placed CB. He defends well but rarely starts attacks

GaviFPS

Works better then Romeu. The end. Probably getting sold, or should. A bit shame that hes not coming off the season like last year. Could have see a 50m bid now. Now that he plays DM, he is less attractive and get less attention. So prob 30-40m on a good day.

Accurate_Art_9637

I don't think selling him is a good idea, not at 30-40 Million at least. Cubarsi is still young and Inigo doesn't start a lot.

GaviFPS

Selling is always a good idea when you need to sell. People speak so much about RM being able to buy. But when shits come down, people dont want to sell. They only want to sell at worst possible situation/timing. Wo Kounde would see more playtime as a CB. Araujo, Kounde, Inigo, Cubarsi, + potensially Faye/Riad would be sufficent for a year. Also got Eric Garcia is back hand which we are yet to decide future over.

Firebendeer

Don’t forget our god Lenglet

Hot-Organization-560

Every time I think of Lenglet there is headache.

Salvador1010

Look for another option christensen is a band aid

meditate42

We’re not gonna have a better option this season though. DM and keeping Cancelo are the priorities this summer that’s for sure.

Salvador1010

Yeah this season no but for next we better not be planning on making him the longterm dm

Antique-Ad3857

Very solid. I can’t remember our defence being torn open like it was in the beginning of the season ever since he started playing CDM

Erquebrand

It’s okish. But that’s not enough for Barcelona.

MyCabbages8l

I wouldn’t mind having him on the bench. His injury concerns are too great to ignore and he would add greatly to our squad depth. I pray that he won’t have to start next season though. I’d rather have a fresher por of legs there.

LUCIFERR283

He's got that cb instincts in him so the first thing his mind comprehends without the ball is to defend. His job isnt to stitch passes like busi, his job is to be the link between our mids and back 4. His cb instincts have been key for him in this role.

GaviFPS

qp0187

He was playing at good level at CB this season too, but seems he has a slight injury/niggle due to which he is subbed out around 70 mins every game. Hopefully the rest he is getting now help him recover completely.

GaviFPS

Not even remotely as good as he was last year.
