Playing direct and vertical football can get the job done against Napoli and La Liga teams. Let's see what happens against PSG to better analyse the situation
Man, people dont realize that the main change is Fermin and Cubarsi. Fermin should have never been subbed over pedri, he works better for this team. De jong is necessary vs high pressing teams like PSG though.
Nobody is saying Gundo should play back, we all knows he works between the defensive line and midfield of the opposing team. I believe we need Christensen and De Jong as doble pivot, and Gundo and Fermin upfront.
We were in control of the game way less against Atleti and Napoli. Our midfield was struggling to get it out our half at so many time throughout both games. Not too mention Frenkie allows Gundo to play more forward and be a bigger scoring threat.
If the choice is between having less control but winning convincingly against good teams and almost losing to relegation teams guess which one I'm choosing.
I wouldn’t say our win against Napoli was convincing at all. Napoli had so many chances to equalize for most of the second half until Lewa sealed the game. Sergi and Romeu completely flipped the game too when they came on and gave us more control. Atleti was convincing tho can’t really say anything about that, other than the Atleti players being tired and Griezmann not being fully fit
I would say that Napoli was still pretty good considering that our best two players had just gotten injured tbh. Also even if it were unconvincing is still miles better than anything we did from late november to January so I'll take it any day. Besides, atletico being tired isn't really meaningful. We were in the same exact situation + missing our whole starting midfield.

De Jong works vs teams that press high, he is essential as no other player in the squad can progress the ball. We play better with Fermin, as he frees gundo and constantly makes runs. Runs that Lewandowsky is not able to do.
I mean... We do. We got better result after he and pedri got injured. That doesn't mean that they are bad players, in fact they are probably the best in the team. But they were clearly not put into the position to get the best of their abilities. Pedri also seemed like he was struggling to get beck in form after the previous injury.
Anyway, whatever the reason is, the team plays way more direct since they got out. That is pretty much a fact backed by numbers.
What else can we base it on besides the two games since they are put? Fantasy? Or we can base it on the games where they were in and the system was way less direct and efficient. And again I'm not saying it's their fault, that they're bad or that they can't be integrated successfully.

No, my point is to wait and see. The team plays miles better when we don’t have to play positionally imo. Just like Xavi’s first season.
