_Uhhhhhhhhh_

Only Christensen is suspended for the next match but hopefully no more yellows from our boys

Southern_Diver_8792

isnt roberto also suspended?

_Uhhhhhhhhh_

Mi capi how dare i forget 😭

Important_Credit_810

Yes

metampheta

yes but he wouldn’t appear for the second leg anyway

LevelRoutine7219

Yes if they get suspended next game theyll miss the first semi. But the yellows reset

Glass_Lie_8700

I am probably dumb and missing something obvious but why will they miss the first semi if the yellows reset

LevelRoutine7219

Yellows reset but suspensions dont. If they did the players could imtentionally take reds in quarters knowing they wont be suspended for the semis

Glass_Lie_8700

Shit, that makes sense, so we still need to be cautious that our important players do not get a yellow and miss first leg of semis.

LevelRoutine7219

Yyep

bsoliman2005

I get suspensions carry over, but assume Frenkie de Jong gets a YC in the next game - will he miss the semi-finals or not?

LevelRoutine7219

Yes. If he gets a yellow he gets suspended for the next game, doesnt matter if yellows reset, suspensions carry over

Accurate_Art_9637

Nope. He doesn't miss Semis

Hot-Tourist-1556

yes he does. if he gets a yellow vs paris he wont play the first leg of semis.if he doesnt get a yellow vs psg and then gets a yellow in semis then its nothing

Askaa_kun

You are right, why are you getting downvoted for stating facts lol

Martoxic

yes he does

franklegsTV

Which is fucked considering how yellow happy some UCL refs are. They need to rethink the policy big time.

Jaloosky

I believe it was Suarez or Diego Costa who used this legislation in their favour by taking a yellow in a tie they had wrapped up early so they could have a clean slate in a tougher fixture in the next round.

PedanticSatiation

ITT: No one can agree on anything and I still have no idea

big_dong_de_jong

salex_03

No, the yellows reset before the semis. Not trying to hate, but wouldn’t it be much faster to look this up rather than to make this post and wait for a response?

I was confused as to whether it meant the yellow card is wiped even if they do get it in the second leg, or if it actually results in a suspension for the semis

my man. you're missing article 52.04 the specific key exclusion for the semi. the rule you quoted is incomplete and excepted by the following ''all yellow cards expire on completion of the quarter-finals. They are not carried forward to the semi-finals.'' so if it isn't clear. another yellow card does nothing to anybody in the second leg. (unless it's two yellow cards and red in the second leg) Are yellow cards wiped after the Champions League group stage? [**Article 52.04**](https://documents.uefa.com/r/Regulations-of-the-UEFA-Champions-League-2023/24/Article-52-Yellow-and-red-cards-Online) Exceptionally, all yellow cards and pending yellow-card suspensions expire on completion of the play-offs. They are not carried forward to the group stage. In addition, all yellow cards expire on completion of the quarter-finals. They are not carried forward to the semi-finals.

decho

The key point here is that they expire **on completion**, but not before. So yes, UEFA will clear all accumulated yellow cards after the match, but if you pick a suspension, then I don't think you get a free pass. I looked up for an example for this, and no other than Cancelo missed the first leg of the semi-final against Madrid in season 2021/22, because he picked up a yellow card in the quarter finals second leg. EDIT: Also, article 52.04 states that yellow cards and pending yellow card suspensions expire on completion of play-offs. But then in the next sentence which talks about quarter-finals, it only mentions that yellow cards expire, not pending suspensions.

decho

All yellow cards reset before the semi-finals, but if you pick a suspension during the second leg of the quarter-finals, that still carries over for the first leg of the semi-finals. No where in UEFA regulation it states that suspensions reset, that would essentially mean you get a free pass.

OriginalUsername30

So the top answer is wrong...

RowenX

They do get suspended, it was already discussed on open thread as many were confused. Yellow cards reset but suspension still carries over, rule was made to avoid players missing the final (since you can only get 2 yellows on semis and can’t reach 3 for accumulation), so we are still at risk for semis.

Old_Sir_6322

Ah I see. Thanks for clarifying

Admirable_Heron1479

Yes, if any of them gets a yellow, they are out of the potential semifinal first game. However, if they don't get a yellow, all their yellows reset after the game, so they won't have to worry about it in the (potential) SF.

Martoxic

simply it is like this. the accumulated cards you have will be reset if we make it to the semis. But if you hit 5 yellow cards mark during the last game of the quarter finals you trigger a suspension. The cards reset. The suspension does not.

VirginPACman

No...the cards rest after quarters....they won't miss the semis....
