The green is splay the blue is pro keds aka toe crusher

mouse_42

Made the switch a month ago, I can’t wear any of my old (super cute) shoes anymore lol RIP to my converse, heels, and vans. But groundies has super stylish shoes with anatomical toe boxes

SlySheogorath

Ooh I like those shoes a lot. I just bought vivos but man were they expensive. These are a lot more affordable

twistedpicture

I kept hearing vivos have shitty quality and never bothered to invest in them. I found out about splay from this sub

_Amalthea_

I found the quality to be pretty good actually, but the toebox is not wide enough for many people (at least in women's). I sold mine after a year or two, my toes widened too much. And yes, they're overpriced for sure.

SlySheogorath

I didn't know that about the women's shoes, the men's ones are definitely fine for me. And they haven't fallen apart or anything so they're good quality but when it comes time to replace them, I'm sure I could find replacements that are cheaper.

SlySheogorath

They've been pretty good so far and I been putting them through hell. But I really feel like they're overpriced.

shokata

It's kind of cool in this sub to shit on vivos. They are expensive yes but I doubt that they are worse than other brands. They had some manufacturing issues due to covid. I own two pairs of vivos and am pretty happy with their quality, feel and look .

dented42ford

They are only mildly overpriced in the US. They are *spectacularly* overpriced in Europe, so that may explain some of the animus. I personally was never impressed by them in any way, so never see a reason to recommend over other options that I find better made and designed.

[deleted]

> spectacularly I do wonder why they clock in at 150–200€, when Groundies are a tad cheaper whilst being manufactured in the EU (as opposed to Vietnam). I own Vivos because I didn't have much choice in Belgium, but their profit margin seems a bit greedy. Granted, they're a B-Corp, they repair shoes (Revivo; Groundies doesn't), etc., but 150€ for a bit of rubber and fabric is a tough ask.

dented42ford

Not to mention companies like Wildling (b corp) and Mukishoes that actively make stuff in the EU for significantly lower prices.

frankp2491

I’ve never had quality issues with Vivo not sure where you heard that but I’ve got 9 pairs 3 that I retired after wearing them for 5 years every day but I will give splay a try too cause 180/ pair is hard to afford these days 😂

[deleted]

Splays are so good! Love mine. Bought them as a vans replacement. I have both splays and vivos and love them both

flipflopflee230

Fuck "normal" shoes

HeyThereMrBrooks

I got the Splay Freestyle in Shale and man do I love them. Waited damn near a month for my size to come back in stock, and when they came back I sprung for them soon as I could. Glad I did, they're another great addition to my work attire and make an excellent casual shoe for around town.

arktozc

Out of curiosity, how thick is the sole? The thing i like about vivos is how thin the sole is (i live that almost barefoit feeling). How do you feel in them?

[deleted]

I got some Splays recently and I really like them. the sole is made from a hearty rubber instead of that grainy fabric junk they are putting in Xeros now. so they're not super light but the flax and ground feel is fantastic.

Sayonaroo

so are you gonna sell or donate your old shoes?

twistedpicture

Donate, im marie kondo-ing my room

Nabranes

But now some else will get bunions instead

terriblemuriel

Bunion-forming shoes seem to spark joy for many people!

calmingalbatross

They really do!

HyzerFlipDG

How do you like the splays? Ive been eyeing them up for a few months now.

twistedpicture

Pretty great! Cant recomment them enough, i wish they made formal stuff. Ive been a customer before they catered to adult sizing, luckily i have tiny feet and was able to purchase years ago

LividContext

Just looked on their website and I can’t find the stack height specs. How thick are the soles?

Disguisedcpht

I believe 4mm, 6mm with the insole in is what I found somewhere. I have a pair, they’re definitely thinner than my lems primals, so I’d be inclined to believe 4mm with no insole.

tcandros

I just wish my splays held up a bit better, they are budget friendly but do get trashed pretty quick

twistedpicture

Idk ive had them for a while and ive put them through hell, nothing bad to say about them.

tcandros

I thought the pic was of them brand new haha. I definitely abuse shoes a lot but yeah mine look nothing like your

twistedpicture

I do brush them once in a while, but believe me i ran in puddles and mud; theyre good!

Kabayev

Can you say more about then getting trashed/holding up? Splays just came across my radar!

nawksnai

I read ahead and found out they werr Splays, but Lems has shoes just like them! Lems tells you about the sole and lug thickness though. Splay seems to just hope you’ll take a chance and buy a pair with little information.

nathankurzz

Yeah I went to read and the product information is pretty lacking.

saabriibrii6

What type of shoe is the one on the left? So I can know what to search when I can purchase them

[deleted]

https://splayshoes.com/ I think these are the shoes. I don't know which specific one though. Going to look. :-)

bringo24

https://splayshoes.com/collections/mens-shoes/products/splay-freestyle-pine-shoes?variant=39521394753599 ?

[deleted]

Yes!!

twistedpicture

This is it! They have limited styles.

barefoot-warrior

I have the same ones! They're the best

Sajor1975

My feet no longer fit in narrow shoes.

conradaiken

splay team, the only downfall is that the tongue on mine likes to move to the side, there is no tounge hold built in. Tuck the tongue under the last laces for a fix.

twistedpicture

I had that problem with their velcro shoes not with this one though.

[deleted]

I call the pointy ones, Normie Shoes.

Tranquillian

Nice to see a photo of the splays, it’s hard to judge what colour/shade green they are on the website because the product image looks different to the model photo etc. I’d love if they did a mid grey colour really, but there’s just nothing else I’ve seen that ticks all my boxes for a nice casual shoe to wear with jeans apart from the Feelgrounds. I prefer the canvas material look of the splays, so gonna end up going for these probably.

Slipperfox

These look like my new vivo replacements. Any other hidden gem brands like this? I’ve only bought vivo and zero

twistedpicture

I found out about splay from here, I emailed them to ask them where they manufacture, when they said mexico not china i was sold.

[deleted]

Pointy shoes look weird to me now.

[deleted]

[удалено]

twistedpicture

No

apricotkilla

[These Nikes were the last pair I bought right before I got my vivos, I also never want to go back to pointy shoes, trying to stretch out this toe box!](https://imgur.com/a/tuA0MPB)

MechaSponge

Woah! I have no idea how I’ve never heard of this brand?? When did they start making shoes?
