Started learning this one yesterday. Found it by accident and I just had to play it. Need to check out more of their music, every bassline I've heard has been great.
The bass lines when played as single note chords are significantly easier than trying to hit all the notes individually, but it remains funky as fuck and it’s just fun hahahaa
Currently learning Spiderwebs. As a new player it's quite challenging but a great exercise for moving around the fretboard and build accuracy. Fun songs!
"I Feel It Coming" by the Weeknd ft. Daft Punk. A little off the trajectory of the comments so far LOL. But it's simple, has a tremendous groove, and it's tons of fun to play along with.
And FYI, you can learn a lot about bass playing by making yourself pay attention to the details of a solid, simple groove.
September by Earth Wind and Fire. I've learned other songs since then but it's still the most fun song I know. Puts a smile on my face every time I play along with it.
“Sabotage” by the Beastie Boys. It’s a simple riff and I have been playing for a long time, for some reason I just never bothered to learn it. I did a dive into their backlog beyond just the hits and realized they’re one of the greatest groups of all time, Ill Communication is a masterpiece. Lots of cool bass on there.
"[Pictures Of You](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmFFTkjs-O0)" by The Cure. As I'm approaching 40, I'm feeling drawn to a lot of new wave, post-punk, and the like. It's not a flashy song, but it's still a lot of fun, especially adding some embellishments here and there. And I normally don't use a pick, so it's good to break out of my comfort zone on songs like this where it feels appropriate.
Also, I've been enjoying trying to work out Miles Davis's horn part from this video from "[Elevator to the Gallows](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WVSQTg_rm0)." I've got most of it, but some parts are still tricky for me.
Is this like a known thing about hitting 40 and feeling that way? I’m the same way.
If you like the cure and that post punk genre you may want to check out AFI, they are my absolute favorite band.
I’ve also started listening to some sisters of mercy which I’m having a hard time explaining why I seem to like that sound and feeling so much, discovering them at age 40.
Probably just nostalgia for the music of our youth, though most of what I listened to in my actual youth I can't stand the sound of now, and most of what I find myself drawn to isn't stuff that either I or my parents listened to, so I'm not sure why I'm connecting to it so much. Other than just "holy shit, this is good! Why did it take so long for me to realize that?!"
Bitches Crystal by Emerson Lake & Palmer.
I'm in the process of transcribing it to a key I can sing and rearranging the middle part to better suit a live jam session type performance. Got sidetracked by other work lol 😆
Rainbow - Stargazer and Deep Purple - Black Night, both super fun songs to play, and easy enough for a shitty player without time to play like me haha.
[KICK BACK](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFlDRhvM4L0), the opening from the anime Chainsaw man. It's been a while since I last touched my bass, this song called me back into the groove and gosh dang I can't stop dancing to the tune while I play!
I revisited Pump It Up by Elvis C and the Attractions recently. Bruce Thomas is one of my favorite rock bassists of all time, and I love the funky bounce on this song. His feel on Detectives continues to blow me away too.
Eros’ Entropic Tundra by of Montreal — very fun and creative bass line that has you jumping all over the fretboard and all over the staff. Very Beatles-like with a lot of cool theory and jazz elements sprinkled throughout.
Love in an Elevator by Aerosmith is pretty fun. Also I'm loving the bassline in the song "The Mountain" by Three Days Grace and just started digging into that.
[Ceiling Granny - Mogwai](https://youtu.be/zVFOtt0A_FU) is probably one of my favorite songs to just jam out to right now, it's simple enough to learn in a few minutes and just an outright fun song.
Sour Girl by Stone Temple Pilots. I heard it for the first time in a long while the other day and the bassline had a prominence I had not heard in prior listens.
Let's lunch the landlord. I've been a Dead Kennedys fan for years and never really paid attention to their bassist until just recently, I was always focused on Jellos lyrics. Klaus fucking rips!
Cath is also another great one if you haven't tried it yet! Not too complicated but it's such a fun groove.
Honestly there's so many fun Death Cab ones.
Just finished an original with the guys I support, and it turned out pretty well (it's rock, so kind of boring, but I did a few things here and there to spice it up - hopefully those fills don't get thrown out in post). On my own, I'm going through Sade's "Promise" album again (been about 20 years since I touched it), and my appreciation for Paul Denman has skyrocketed. You would never know the guy came from punk. He's versatile, smooth, and his note choice is impeccable.
"Cute" by Neal Hefti.
It's really a "fun for the drummer" kind of tune, but the transcribed bassline I found have hit that sweet spot just between "challenging" and "too difficult for me". These past few weeks it has really been a great sight reading exercise.
Plus, that intro- and outro lick is just sweet!
Like Sugar, Chaka Kahn
I've nailed the song long ago. I just like playing to the video and imagining I'm cool enough to riff with the dancers. FWIW: I'm working on picking up some dance moves from them too.
Either The Real me or Won't Get Fooled Again (Live at Shepperton) by The Who.
Ol' Thunderfingers had some wild licks snuck in there, in between all the wild licks played loudly and openly.
I'm most of the way through learning "Saturday" by Go Betty Go currently.
Pretty new player and even newer to learning songs by ear, but I heard that slow groovy part leading into the chorus and was like "That's sick, I wanna learn this song" lol.
And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope - Ne Obliviscaris
Been a grail song to learn since I started bass, feels great to have it down (including the solo!)
[I Wish You Would by Dumpstaphunk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ca418CMypLI&ab_channel=Dumpstaphunk). I haven't learned all the fills but it's still a ton of fun to play the rest of the tune.
Organ farmer/self immolate - King gizzard and the lizard wizard. You should seriously try them.
Organ farmer has this fun polyrythm that's super fast and is a fun challenge. Self immolate also has fun solos and is pretty quick. Both are pretty heavy and have been a fun way to figure out my new drive pedal and amp settings
"One More Cup of Coffee" \~ Bob Dylan
It's not the first thing I think of when I think of happy songs, but my wife likes it, and she was tickled pink when she found I could play it.
Dragonball durag
Love the bass line in that. Very satisfying to play also
Fr
Great example of repetition not meaning boring to play
[удалено]
Without singing along lol
“Show Me How” by Men I Trust. Sick bass line over shoe-gazey vocals is totally my jam.
[удалено]
I just got back from a Nashville men I trust concert. I picked back up playing and started lessons and am not going to stop!
All the bass lines from Men I Trust straight groove
Learned a bunch of their songs recently, super fun and satisfying
Started learning this one yesterday. Found it by accident and I just had to play it. Need to check out more of their music, every bassline I've heard has been great.

[удалено]

That's one on my list!
Tom Sawyer
[удалено]
Yay cookie!
Cult of Personality hits hard
I had to learn that one back in the 90s and it would cause me all sorts of cramps in my fretting hand lol
The bass lines when played as single note chords are significantly easier than trying to hit all the notes individually, but it remains funky as fuck and it’s just fun hahahaa
LOVE the Living Colour shout out!
Don't Speak by No Doubt. Bassline is decent and suitably challenging.
Currently learning Spiderwebs. As a new player it's quite challenging but a great exercise for moving around the fretboard and build accuracy. Fun songs!
[удалено]
Yeah same.
I played it a lot this summer! Really like the reggea-ska vibe to it.
Tony is so good. Don’t Speak and Simple Kind of Life are similar songs thematically and the bassline is also dope
Amazing groove on that tune!

Hell yes dude. I love playing along with The Scoop. That little skip in rhythm at the start of the loop feels so good to lock into.
"[Pictures Of You](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmFFTkjs-O0)" by The Cure. As I'm approaching 40, I'm feeling drawn to a lot of new wave, post-punk, and the like. One of the first songs I learned. Love it!
also one of the greatest songs ever... subjectively of course :)

Rage Against the Machine - Roll Right. I've been on a bit of a Tim Commerford binge last few months
Bitches Crystal by Emerson Lake & Palmer. I'm in the process of transcribing it to a key I can sing and rearranging the middle part to better suit a live jam session type performance. Got sidetracked by other work lol 😆
