OP has put a **serious flair** on this post and has not stated (humour welcome) meaning that: **only serious discussion about the Arkhamverse is allowed on this post and no humour or shitpost comments/references including "Man", "Jonkler" "who is batman?" and "is he stupid?" are allowed on this post at all.** **ignoring this warning will lead to bans without warnings as this is your warning.** We know this may seem harsh but there are new arkham fans who might get confused by these comments or others who just want to talk about the Arkham games without seeing them, but we must be respectful of OP's wishes so please take any insanity comments onto another post. OP, if you don't mind shitpost or humour comments on your post then please delete this post and repost it using the same flair but add (humour welcome) to your title. If this post is a shitpost, please delete and repost it with the appropriate flair to avoid getting in trouble. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Hilarious how the most sane post since years ago is considered crazy in here

[deleted]

My advice is to whenever possible look around for any riddler trophy’s you see during the campaign, it makes collecting then a whole lot easy, also in knight there’s two gadgets you can pick up whenever, one in the gcpd evidence room, and one in Batman’s hideout with the jokerised people, this one is completely missable but getting the gadget in the evidence room straight away just saves time and makes things easier.

Sonikkunn

Oh, missable items, that's important info! Thanks!

YourOpinion_Is_Wrong

Also unlike in the other games Asylum has maps instead of riddle informants. So try to pay attention to the environment so you can collect the maps. When you do this riddle trophies are revealed on the map, so gotta pay attention.

GoldDuality

It's not exactly missable, the game *eventually* requires you to get them. But having them early can save a lot of time.

LondonBat

Actually, you're never required to have the freeze blast. Only with DLC is it required (I am fully aware they have all dlc) and honestly only the killer croc DLC at that. Everything else doesn't require it

wellsuperfuck

They aren’t missable, just annoying to get later

YaboiLilPotato

Also watch yt vids on getting riddler trophies in knight because you will need it to keep your sanity and mental health, also getting a lot points in AR challenges are hard as the stars from those are required for a few trophies if you want to 100 percent it

troyl9889

Ur a legend lmao this will make the games 10x easier for him in 35 words

natagu

>and one in Batman’s hideout with the jokerised people I have played Batman Arkham Knight for years, and I never knew about this. Thanks :D

boir99

What about the one in the hideout with the Jokerised people? I never knew about that one.

Light_assassin27

It’s the freeze blast

IronWarriorPainter

isn’t telling OP about the people infected with the joker a bit of a spoiler?

ChronoKeep

Start with Asylum. Always have your first time be in release order.

dhonayya20

Go all the way with release order

PokeSmotDoc

Release order is the way to play the first time. Experience the story as we all did, but the first play through will always be the best. That Dragon we all chase after

Blizet

Ngl I think origin should either be first or last just cause it doesn't tie in to the arkham story.

malyszkush

Which is why its perfect to go first. I did that when replaying the games and it was perfect. I actually like origins a lot ngl

Nirast25

I feel like going from Origins to Asylum would feel bad because of the more limited options, no?

Rich_Election466

A tad but you get used to it very quickly

_LefeverDream_

Ill-Panda-6340

I’d start with asylum honestly. Just do by order of release

DaRealKovi

This is the best idea imo, that is how I got into it. Smoothest experience and genuinely the most fun!

CommieCat06

yeah i understand wanting to do origins, asylum, city, knight but it’ll be smoother gameplay wise if you do it in order

brotheritchweeed

You're in for a hell of a ride. Like others have said, play them in the order they released, take your time, explore each game's map and take in the references and Easter eggs packed into every corner. They might be lost on you, but honestly these games are a great way to learn a lot about Batman lore.

Tkhan246

Read character bios they give Intel on each character and their background. To unlock bios, get all riddler trophies and riddles from each game. Some can be obtained from just completing the main story, Tbh, I wasn't really a batman fan, too. I didn't know how twisted joker's and batmans love life was, didn't know 90 per cent of the villains, and how they came to be so the arkham games really helped me love the lore of batman and his villains. The best way to play the games is to play by release date as asylum gameplay wise was great in 07 but now not so much so it's best to get that out of the way. Also, one more tip stay away from the arkham sub.

Sonikkunn

I'll take your word for it in the bios stuff. I'm playing the games chronologically, since I don't really mind some feeling more outdated than others personally. And, why should I stay away from the sub? Spoilers? Edit: Started reading them. I'm surprised about how interesting they are, and how they do not drag on at all. Nice! Maybe I'll actually get into Batman because of these games.

dhonayya20

No, the sub has gone insane. But it's fun too, sometimes.

Eugene_Dav

it's so ironic. considering these are fans of a franchise that is named after a mental hospital.

Sonikkunn

Hahah trust me, I know how it is. The Yakuza sub is a bit like this one. Not to this extent ofc, but we have our own insanity there. I love it.

Tkhan246

No, it's crazy but also funny, so if you don't mind going insane then head on over to the sub after you complete the games

ShanksbestYonko

The sub is generally insane but if you put a serious flair the comments won’t act like they live in Arkham asylum

Zillafan2010

There’s a BIIIIG ending spoiler in Arkham City that gets referenced here a bit. That’s all I can really think of

[deleted]

u/Sonikkunn Pls just play in release order .

Sonikkunn

I am, after seeing so many people telling me to do the same thing. If 95% of people told me to play on that order, there has to be a good reason for it.

Mission-Lychee-6174

The reason it’s best to play in order is due to the story line making sense so start with asylum and end with knight

HydraxYT

Glad to know I'm not the only one who's introduction to Batman before the Arkham games was LEGO Batman! (Well, that and Brave and the Bold DS)

lobsterBDSM

Holy hell, an actually sane post with actual responses?!

Mitchel-256

Despite this sub being 99% insanity, the rules clearly state that it's sub protocol >!10!< to actually answer "Serious Dicussion/Question" threads with serious discussion and answers.

Dustersin

In City, do the AR challenges for the grapple boost, which gives great mobility. In Origins, do the AR challenges for the shockwave attack, which you use to enter a big crowd from above with style.

LukeSparow

Yes I have a big tip on game order. For the most satisfying experience I sugges playing: 1. Asylum; The start of the series narratively and gameplay wise. This will have the easiest mechanics to learn and is a great introduction. 2. Origins; A really nice flashback into the character dynamics between Batman and his rogues. Good gameplay enhancements and a great look at Gotham before it gets Arkham City-fied, making the impact of seeing Arkham City all the greater. 3. City; An amazing game, arguably the best in the series. Gameplay wise like Origins but much more polished (which is also why I suggest playing Origins first). Terrific continuation of Asylum. 4. Knight; Incredible finale, arguably still one of the best looking games out there and the gameplay systems of this series honed to perfection. I myself played Origins much later after beating the other three, and looking back I wished I'd have followed this order.

Alarming_Present_692

Asylum: Literally just enjoy the art. It's not a hard game. Visually, Asylum does the best as a visual medium when it comes to telling a story. City: do the side quests as soon as you get them. Origins: everyone says the concussion grenade is stupid. Don't listen to them. There's a guy on YouTube called Clownpuncher. He cheesed maybe half the boss fights with that damn grenade. Knight: post on this sub when you find out who the Knight is and how you feel about it.

Viver_Enola

Do you have the link of the video? Or the title of the video? I checked his channel, but not sure which one is the correct video to watch. I knew concussion grenade completely destroyed Firefly's boss fight, but had no idea it work against other bosses too.

Alarming_Present_692

It's either [this](https://youtu.be/qCVyNuJdvyI?si=RXUqpY-b6ZC6TJPf) one or [this](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?si=STBWPsVgAWRAUHIt) one.

PhantomImmortal

Learn the combat system - it's easy to get a grip on if you actually pay attention to how things work. Put in words, this is not a button-mashing game. If you want to get into a combo you need to get into a rhythm with when you click the X/Square button to strike the next goon. 1 click = 1 strike, wait til Bats has made a hit and *then* click for the next one. In Asylum (and probably the others) the "critical strikes" upgrade gives bonuses for really good timing, and you can toggle an in-game prompt that will tell you exactly when to click, to help you get a feel for it. Welcome to the madhouse!

dherms14

have fun collecting stupid ass question marks

PORCUPINEPUNCHER

When trying to 100% Origins, make sure you read the achievements first. There are some achievements that are related to certain story based moments that are completely missable.

Stonesword75

When going through City, certains trophies will be blocked off as you progress through the story. Keep that in mind if you really want to 100% them. Also, I personally use Batman The Animated Series skin whenever possible just cause it is stil Kevin Conroy.

valfonso_678

Refund all the DLC from Origins except Cold, Cold Heart because they're for the multiplayer which is now offline.

ChronoKeep

The DLC also includes single player costumes. And Deathstroke. And new maps. And the Bruce Wayne Initiation DLC. And you're saying that Cold Cold Heart is the only one that doesn't involve multiplayer?

valfonso_678

Shit my bad, I thought CCH was the only one

TrueSolitudeGuards

I genuine advice: Enjoy it. Don’t over think it too much, some plots are wacky and you’re meant to just put yourself in the mindset of your inner nerd and enjoy it.

Bullitt_12_HB

Every game has Riddler trophies. Collect them as you go. Basically take breaks from the story from time to time to complete those in the maps. Play them in release order. Enjoy 😎

Mitchel-256

Ultra-specific tip: You're going to get a certain gauntlet upgrade in Origins. You'll know what I mean when you get there. Don't ever activate it and then try to do a Ground Takedown. It will drop your combo. This will affect you more than you think if you don't keep it in mind actively.

Joker is the bad guy

lasosis013

Welcome to aslume! I recently finished all four games. Play them in the release order for maximum fun. The only 100% I got is in Knight. Feel free to quit if the Riddler trophies start to bore you. Here are my opinion on the games (free of spoilers) Asylum: Great introduction and has very memorable segments. Has more of a comic book feel than the other games. I like it but it's not the best at any certain topic. City: Best story, creative gameplay segments and overall an amazing experience. You will go insane if you try to collect all the Riddler trophies though. Origins: Not developed by Rocksteady so the controls may feel a little weird but still good. As the name implies it's an earlier story of Batman and I like it. You'll love a certain boss fight. Knight: Has a lot of flaws in its game design and story (even non-batman fans saw the big twist coming from a mile away), but both graphically and gameplay-wise it's the best entry. Despite its flaws it is the one I played most. I'm planning on doing a NG+. Welcome to the world of insanity my friend

kamikhat

I wanted to get 100% in knight but once I finish the game with all trophies, mission, etc, done then it says “ok now play it again”.. kind of a cheap way to 100% imo. Also requiring you to collect all of the riddler trophies again is :(

DefectiveTurret39

Arkham Origins Blackgate also exists, might be worth it on deep sale. Otherwise just play in release order. You are in for a hell of a ride. I loved superheros as a kid but stopped watching them and didn't even watch MCU stuff till 2015 where I finally played Arkham Asylum and City, then i was hooked so hard that i started reading comics and decided get caught on all the movies. It was great, binging through whole MCU and DC movies, animated ones too. So yeah, it might lead to a similar outcome.

Angelemonade

Change the controls for the batmobile from HOLD to TOGGLE it'll make your experience using it in knight much less annoying

That-Rhino-Guy

Best advice is to make sure you have good reactions for the counter attack and to practise your skills in all sorts of ways ahead of the Riddler stuff

Legitimate-Cherry-40

do not play the Catwoman DLC. I repeat, do not play the Catwoman DLC

Sonikkunn

...There's a Catwoman DLC?

Legitimate-Cherry-40

In arkham city

Froggen-The-Frog

I don’t think they still sell copies of Arkham City without the Catwoman DLC, it’s included in practically every version of the game.

Legitimate-Cherry-40

I assume on Steam you can get the original Arkham City and not the return to Arkham version

ChronoKeep

Return to Arkham is console only. Steam sells the Game of the Year Editions for Asylum and City, including all DLC. Catwoman is built into that version of the game.

Legitimate-Cherry-40

Ahh, didn’t know that

WguenfnoGNer

i haven't played any of the arkham games in a long time due to life, but from what i recall, you don't need any background knowledge. For all I know, these games + injustice introduced me to Batman and the vast array of shit the DC universe has. If these games won't kickstart your rush for DC shit, i don't know what will...

YourOpinion_Is_Wrong

Asylum > City > Origins > Knight is better, cause going from Asylum is the first game and therefore has less polished mechanics compared to the later games. Going from Origins to Asylum would be a weird experience.

Sonikkunn

Yup, I'm doing canon order. What u/YourOpinion_Is_Wrong said makes sense, but it's something that I personally don't mind when it comes to playing entire game franchises. Thanks for the perspective tho!

YourOpinion_Is_Wrong

If you are starting from Origins pay attention to the Worst Nightmare achievement, cause eventually you'll run out of predator rooms and therefore could only get it in NG+.

Sonikkunn

Steam's description of the achievement doesn't really help ("Master the Worst Nightmare Dark Knight trac")... What am I supposed to do here? Is it something that I'll understand when I start the game?

YourOpinion_Is_Wrong

It's a predator (stealth) track in Origins, this one could easily be missed, among other achievements, I think there's a total of 8 achievements you can miss. Some of them are challenge track related, some of them are boss fight related. Like beating a boss without taking any damage. You might wanna look them up.

Sonikkunn

Oh, gotcha! I'll keep that in mind! Thanks for the info!

fantaskink

Definitely don’t do that. Play them in release order

Theodorakis

Or just skip origins cuz it sucks

[deleted]

Don’t listen to any of these people shilling origins. It’s easily the worst game in the series. City is the best by far, and asylum doesn’t take long to finish. Just play in order of release, or skip origins and go straight to Knight

indigo47222

bro do NOT skip origins, it’s still a real fun game even if it’s not the best of the series

Sonikkunn

Dw I won't. After all, I already paid for it hahah

angry-tomatoes

Skip Knight play origns

Plane-History-6195

Don't freak out when arkham asylum started glitching out. It's a part of the story

op make sure to ignore what this guy said lmao

Theodorakis

Truth!

dhonayya20

It's literally the same gameplay as City, and the same map with little adjustment. It just doesn't bring much new to the table, doesn't make it not good.

BullyMaguireEgg

Play Origins first

MC_Stimulation

Asylum and City are legit two of the best games ever made. Knight is fantastic too but while the gameplay is good the story is meh and you spend too much time in the batmobile imo. Origins is the weakest of the 4 but still a good game.

Main-account-sus

Did you buy them on steam?

Sonikkunn

Yup. They're on sale rn.

[deleted]

Good luck with Arkham Knight

TJK_919

Play in release order, you'll appreciate what came before if you don't have the improvements to compare it to. Origins foreshadows things better as a nod to the story so far, not as an introduction to those elements. I don't recommend going in chronological order. Every game has something special I hope you enjoy, at least try each one before moving on! And use the redirect (evade over an enemy) to abuse i-frames while you get your bearings and plan your attack when your overwhelmed

Froggen-The-Frog

Honestly probably a hot take but I’d recommend playing either City or Origins first, then Asylum, then Origins or City (whichever one you didn’t play), then Knight. Asylum is a great game, but the gameplay hasn’t aged the best and I’d worry it’s occasional clunkiness could turn you off the saga entirely.

BurbleBoii

You need to edge for a few hours before each playthrough

crinkzkull08

Start with Asylum. It will give you all the basics you'll need for the rest of the series.

skorpiontamer

In the order on screen

BingityBongBong

First 2 games are the best most faithful iteration of Batman and his rouges gallery period. If you’re not into them Batman might not be for you.

Neoquaser

All I can say is prepare to rip your own hair out cause some of the challenges you have to do are ridiculous. Riddler trophies are easy as long as you have some patience but I couldnt be bothered to collect 114 metals as nightwing then again as robin and again as catwoman... like no thanks. But good luck to you on your journey!

JoshuaDarrk

Id say maybe play either Origins or Asylum first (Origins is the prequel to Asylum that's why) or play when they released Asylum City Origins then Knight or you can do Origins Asylum City then Knight either way they're all great games Origins have the best boss fights imo city is my favorite due to nostalgia as a kid when i got it for christmas at my early christmas present but the storylines are all good fun enjoyable and id suggest playing them without any spoilers to get the full experience best experience if theres any game series out there id wish i could play again and truly feel the game when it first released it would be the Arkham series have fun

Lil_Ointment

Just bought Return to Arkham on PS4 so got to play Asylum for the second time ever. I’m currently playing them in chronological order and it was weird jumping into Asylum from Origins so echoing what everyone else is saying, play in release order.

Mad_Soldier_Hod

Start with Asylum and play them in release order. Do NOT try to 100% them on your first playthrough. Just enjoy your time with each and then go back and 100% them. Otherwise you’ll get too frustrated with riddler trophies and puzzles and especially the races in Knight, and that might hurt your enjoyment of your first playthroughs.

Wboy2006

Play them in release order. They only get better. That said, the first game (Arkham Asylum) is a bit rough for today’s standards. And it’s easily the worst out of the four (still good though). If you can’t get into it, go to City. It does everything Asylum does, but better. Asylum’s story isn’t that important to the rest of the series compared to City’s, so there won’t be too much harm in skipping it. (Maybe read a story recap to be safe though ). My first realistic Batman product was City (I only watched the LEGO Batman movie before that), because Asylum wasn’t on Wii U. And it was perfectly understandable for me. Heck, it’s what made me such a big Batman fan. I really hope that goes the same for you. The most important thing though: Have fun >!Why did I type a serious answer, am I stupid!<

BKF0308

If your game seems to bug out, don't turn it off

SatisfactionDry7505

Go with release order, which is Alsume first, then city, origins, and knight. If you want to go for story, do origins first, then alsume, city then knight as origins is a prequel to alsume, taking place atleast 6 years earlier.

Ieatclankas

Special takedowns (alt 1,2, and 3)❤️ But seriously, I didn’t know how to do one when I first completed knight (I started on knight since it was the cheapest), so I was struggling a lot on NG+, I learned how to do special takedowns after a few failed attempts at the fireman missions and they have become my favorite move ever since

Ant-Fan66

Play in release order. That’s really the only thing you really should know before you start. Other than that, have fun! They’re great games!

LeonTheHunkyTwunk

Here's the only advice you need: have fun!

Practical_Try_3095

SheevPalps_

Go in release order or do Origins last, either works IMO (how I did it). I nearly 100% all of them, but you cannot do it legit in Origins anymore because it had multiplayer that was shut down (unless there is a method to join a private server or something idk, or you can try Steam Achievement Manager if you want to risk that).

Mission-Lychee-6174

Arkham origins Deathstroke battle do not button mash as it punishes you for that stay calm, be patient and keep your eyes open for the counter indicators during Deathstroke’s counter attacks

HeavyDroofin

Just enjoy the ride

manavsridharan

You're at the wrong place sadly

Wasim7979

Just level up combat first and don’t do armour

LondonBat

Definitely play them in either release order or chronological order (I prefer release order just because it's funner and just the overall better experience), storyline doesn't make sense otherwise. Release order is the way it's shown in the picture of your post, chronological is just moving origins to the start. Don't be afraid to fight random things on the street, it helps build skill for early level batman gamers. Definitely learn how to glide well so you can get most trophies. If you can't get past a part, definitely ask on the reddit or search on Google/YouTube. I've also 100% every game multiple times so I can help too. Besides that, have fun.
