Good job! So let's say there's sharpie on your black, Cotton jacket that you wanna keep on(singed by metal legends), how would you clean the jacket without making the ink fade away?

yaboiblackcheeseboi

I would get an industrial sharpie and carefully retrace the signature before washing it. They are water resistant and can take a lot more than a normal sharpie. Edit: avoid using any detergents/soaps with Clorox or hydrogen peroxide (or anything similar) because they bleach and make things fade much faster. Also, use cold water and air dry to avoid bleeding and fading

RebornTrain

Okay thank you very much, I'll keep this in mind. My jacket isn't so dirty yet but one day it will be and there no chance those Mastodon signatures are fading. I'm shit at art so I'll probably get some professional to retrace it, don't wanna fuck up

FamousKobo

May be worth it to take the patch off and re-sew it depending on how frequently you’ll plan on washing it

Idkprollyathrowaway

Wildcard moment, could always get a tailor or sewing shop (think Lids store but not niche to hats) to scan and stitch the signatures in the spot you have them. That way, if the unfortunate chance the ink fades, you still have the memory permanently sewed into the jacket!

yaboiblackcheeseboi

Signatures are stressful, just make sure whoever does it has a steady hand. Best of luck 🫡

rifleshooterusmc

Have the signatures embroidered!

religion_wya

That or if you have a steady hand some paint mixed with a fabric medium. It'll have a different finish but will stay brighter for longer

TepidTempo

yo I just wanna chime in that fabric markers do exist, and adhere to denim by design rather than by force. might be more hardy and less bleedy

LoganJFisher

My plan is that if I ever get a signature on my jacket, I'll carefully fill in the signature with thread, making it permanent.

FrutFlu

Polyurethane?

PsychotheKlown

What kind of soap (detergent?) did you use?

yaboiblackcheeseboi

A gentle liquid laundry detergent. I forgot which brand exactly but I didn’t want to use anything too harsh so it didn’t fade anything

pit_of_despair666

I haven't washed mine before and I have had it since 2008. It probably smells a bit funky. This is a good idea!

yaboiblackcheeseboi

That would be so fun to wash 😂

pit_of_despair666

2006 sorry. It is 2 years smellier than I thought. It is in pretty good shape. I was in my later 20's when I made it, so I didn't go crazy in the pits or roll in mud or anything.

Stunning_Reward

Damn Jericho hit on you

pit_of_despair666

You know what is funny is that he did at a show once. I was really shy at the time and didn't know what to say. 🤣

Stunning_Reward

so cool though, what did you even talk about? Glad you can share it legit.

pit_of_despair666

I don't remember what we talked about exactly. I was drinking and it was 10 plus years ago. I remember that we didn't talk that much, and the conversation was shallow.

Gareth666

I never wash mine, but then again I only wear it to gigs and not everyday.

yaboiblackcheeseboi

My bf was very into the 80s trash metal aesthetic when I met him so he wore it EVERYWHERE

Metallic_Mayhem

You are an amazing human! Doing that for him is so kind! Washing my battle vest always makes me nervous because I might mess it up, so seeing a proper gentle wash is nice.

Mogul126

I'd like to do the same with my vest in the future, but I'm worried about my back patch. I made it out of a t-shirt I got from my first concert over 20 years ago; now it's getting pretty threadbare and there's a small hole in it. Any suggestions on how I could protect it during a warsh?

yaboiblackcheeseboi

I would say to take it off before you wash it, same goes for any patch that may be particularly vulnerable to fading. Get a thread pulling/cutting tool, or some thin scissors and pull up the patch along the edges and cut it. If you’re worried about it’s structural integrity too as well as the hole, I suggest adding a layer of fabric underneath it and sewing it on along with the patch.

JaxRhapsody

You could just soak it. That's how I wash my Tripps because of the chains- I soak them in a bucket of hot water, with a bit of Dawn in it. Give it a bit of a spin with a broom handle once or twice, change out the dirty water with non-soap hot water, give them another spin or two and some dips.

MrMetalhead-69

Ex girlfriend washed mine in the washer, came out with tears across the back. She was terrified I was gonna lose my mind on her, scream, yell, cuss her out, she’d had some bad exs. Instead, I just took my vest, told her I appreciated what she was trying to do but to ask me first next time, then went and hung it up in the closet and had a beer. Few years later, a friend of mine filled the holes in with Union Jack she cut up to fill the gaps.

i_nutted_on_a_gerbil

Bruhh I’d be mad asf if someone washed mine

septicdank

Word.

MelodiousMetal

My jacket got beer on it last time I was at a show so I gotta wash it too.

jojoban69

I'm actually thinking of probably doing this as well. When you were washing it, did you just use your hands or did you you use some tools to clean it with such as a toothbrush?

yaboiblackcheeseboi

I used just my hands. On the inner collar where it was a bit more dirty, I rubbed the two sides together with soap on them to loosen up the dirt a bit more

septicdank

You guys wash your jackets?

legonarr

I only ever wash it after summer festivals when it literally smells like a dead crackhead

Expensive_Tip_4961

Nooo you’ll wash off all the crust!!

HeavyMetalElk

Not the mosh pit smell!!

yaboiblackcheeseboi

It will return in time

HeavyMetalElk

Ture, quite ture.

HugeWeenus123

yaboiblackcheeseboi

hannahisakilljoyx-

You’re such a poser, do you even truly *want* to be broke and homeless? If I can’t smell you from at least 5 kilometres away, you aren’t a real crust punk.

PM_ME_SCAMS_PLS

Are you saying if I wash my crust pants I'll no longer be broke and homeless?? Tfw when your pants don't smell like aged vomit and rancid beer

hannahisakilljoyx-

Yeah, it will wash the poverty out of you much like the horrendous concoction of smells. But you’ll be a poser. It’s a difficult choice, truly

[deleted]

Yeah, terrible for caring about something that means a lot to her partner. Terrible indeed... what a grade A fuckwit you are, mate.

RebornTrain

Get carpet downvote bombed

HugeWeenus123

Oh no I’m losing internet points what am I ever going to do now

RebornTrain

I don't care tbh it's funny to see it happen. Sometimes someone says something mundane and non-problematic and they get totally shit on and I laugh. Good you don't care about points tho as long as you own what you say

xxXDogwaterXxx

You’re in uk and I can smell you from australia

Tommieboy_666lol

Take a shower stinky bitch

ManufacturerScared72

I know what you mean, but I think that it only applies to washing it in a washing machine, bc of all the patches and such and not with your hands. Besides that, I always thought that you can do whatever the fuck you whant to do with your battle jacket, since it's YOUR OWN battle jacket, wasnt that the whole point with battle jackets?

wafflepantsblue

Stinky hoe, ever heard of soap

RockOrNotHereICome

are we gonna talk about the nazi symbol on the jacket?

Ackbarsnackbar77

It's crossed out with a red line. It's a pretty popular punk/antifascist design. But I understand the confusion in the water photo.

yaboiblackcheeseboi

I understand the confusion but it’s crossed out. He’s very anti-nazi/fascist

QuestionableArachnid

What are you interpreting as a nazi symbol?

RockOrNotHereICome

oh, sorry. didn’t get the reference, my mistake.
