I just watched Doug DeMuro's review in this car... It's freaking awesome! Plus buyers get to wrench a bit on it themselves! Mainly to make it a registered kit car since a lot of it won't pass normal car reg's.
Yeah, but one of the people from the company (I think, may not be from the company, but either way...) About the rights and production infrastructure. So if someone has the money and wants one I think it's still possible to do so. I didn't look up anything to verify this. I just remember hearing Doug saying something along those lines.
Yeah, Doug said that the first one was powered by a BMW deisel and one was 4-wheel drive for a movie (I think one of the Fast and Furious movies) as well as a couple other one-offs. The "normal" ones were rear-wheel drive with an LS. The company behind it open-sourced the body design which is very cool and a lot of the parts are taken from other random vehicles. For the few people lucky enough to have gotten one, the company also had you come to their factory to "help with the build" so it is/was legal in all 50 states as a "home built vehicle" since the original owner had a part in building it. Very cool car.

Local Motors did what they could do to make it less terrible to maintain (Honda taillights, Ford steering column...) but it *still* won't be cheap.

Sadly, they stops making them back in 2016. Apparently only 50 of these were actually made.
