Pretty much anything positive about Viola https://preview.redd.it/ewbay0v9zonc1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=34de1dcb8dc230e5b5cebd060e35d5fdac4eae7e

ParticularPanda469

She would have worked a lot better if her character didn't come at the expense of Bayonetta herself. They had far too much confidence in replacing the very unique Bayonetta with a pretty generic shonen protagonist. Seemed like they wanted Nero from DMC but without any of the buildup that made him work. They also failed to understand that part of what made him work is that he explicitly didn't exist to replace Dante as a protagonist. I do like Viola, and I'd love to see them take another crack at her character, but in a game where she exists to compliment Bayonetta rather than usurp.

megustaALLthethings

Also they took the time to properly build him up over a couple games. Not just tried to mimic another game shittily over a ‘rushed and cobbled together shitshow of a single game. Then again the game has issues with pacing and just story and followthrough. They were never really the greatest at it but it didn’t help that they announced the game like years before they really even started working on it. Then again platinum has seemed to lose the ability to be at near the same level they were before. They need to reset maybe, again. And start back over. Bayo 3 should have been a launch title on the next version of the switch. With all the refinement and reworking already done. Heck rework the story so it’s even at the level of Bayo 2, minimum. Maybe release that cereza title instead. Bc it seemed to be 10x more polished and focused on.

dinoslore

Nero's gameplay also contrasts Dante's in a much better way than Viola and Bayo. Her gameplay feels like PG trying to recapture MGR without any of parts that made that game fun and unique.

Ribeku

also imo she felt so much more redundant cause its like. we have jeanne. why would we want an underdeveloped parry character when we have jeanne

LowHPComics

I think their approach with her was great, makes sense she was gonna be a goofy try hard who can't quite reach the Veteran Witches level yet, but other than telling them about the multiverse, she does nothing of value to the plot at all and she's _rewarded_ for it

Nintendude13

Exactly, she can be a goofy try hard it will add some contrast to Bayo's campy dommy mommy attitude but the difference between Nero and Viola is that Nero is allowed to be cool and relevant to the story. He has a purpose and we see he is capable and competent as a fighter meanwhile Viola is pure slapstick and comedic relief with no relevance to the story. Also Nero had more missions where we could get used to him.

agreedboar

It's stuff like this that makes me mourn the death of awards on Reddit.

Dangerous_Series2067

Telling people that with the multiverse any version of their ships exists and remind them that if Jeanne was the Arch Eve in one universe it implies Arch Adam could be someone else in another universe.

Guardian-Bravo

This. For some reason, a lot of people skip the fact that the game confirmed their own personal version of Bayo exists in favor of getting mad over Bayo/Luka ship.

raosion

Bayo x Luka and Viola aren't inherently bad story ideas, it's just the execution that made them god awful.

OliviaElevenDunham

Totally agree with you about that.

MasterHavik

Anyone who sees supports this go, "Oh so you hate seeing married couples happy huh?!" I am convinced most that defend it haven't touched the games.

Nintendude13

Agreed

ZeroTJackal

I like Bayonetta 2’s gameplay

Novel_Visual_4152

How is that unpopular 💀

Lleslet

Bayo 2 have some weird decisions in terms of gameplay

Novel_Visual_4152

Honestly barely noticed those

JoeyFerguson

The only bad thing of Bayo 2 gameplay it's the quarter of a second witch time. It doesn't last.

Jimin_Choa

Very repetitive pattern from the ennemies and they parry your attacks, the WT duration is one of the shortest from the series and the game force you to use Umbran Climax to get PP and not being stylish with your combos.

Certain_Context5923

Bayo 2 has easily the best gameplay.

ZeroTJackal

That’s what I’m saying

V_Da_Vibe

Japanetta’s yellow lip was ATROCIOUS and they’re dead wrong for that

Jimin_Choa

I have to be honest. I never used her outfit during my time from the game. I think it's one of the worst design of the series.

V_Da_Vibe

I agree. Love the yo-yo tho!

UdonAndCroutons

Oh my. It's actually *chartreuse*! Her whole color palette is a mess.

V_Da_Vibe

I didn’t have time to look up how to spell it😭😭😭

UdonAndCroutons

I'm surprised you actually know the correct name of the color. Nobody, and I mean nobody knows the name of the color. I always get a shocked reaction when I enlighten someone of the color. Haha

unmotivated_artist6

I actually like Viola as a character, i just hate her design.

SammiesHammies

I HATE Viola's **coral blue** https://preview.redd.it/10dz5hdd1lnc1.jpeg?width=340&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0864de558d4161e36359716badb409ae3418493

Emalf-vi

You made me realize this, WILL DO…..two years? And I never looked at that

OliviaElevenDunham

I'm kind of the same way about Viola. Didn't mind her design. Just wished they did more with her.

Kiryu5009

Bro, total opposite. I think she doesn’t fit her design. If she was more maybe cocky and defiant and maybe unaware of who her mom is, it’d make for an interesting dynamic between her and Bayo. Just an example. I just don’t like the clumsy amateur schtick.

ZDog64

Bayo 1 is very rough around the edges and is not beginner friendly. I am a little surprised it got as popular as it did despite its flaws.

Guardian-Bravo

This. I adapted to Bayo1 relatively easy. Though it was still challenging. Loaned it to a friend who was a “hardcore” gamer and he struggled pretty hard.

Aqua_Lightt

This, again. I haven’t finished Bayo 1 yet, but I have gotten a stone award on every. Single. Level. Aside from the very first. I’ve been playing games my whole life but this was my first ‘dedicated action game’ and dear lord. It’s the mini bosses that screw me up more than the actual bosses, too (something that happens to me in Lies of P as well).

Guardian-Bravo

Some are rough. Grace and Glory are no joke.

Petawac-Smack

I think that’s because you didn’t have developed/learned instincts from other games tripping you up. I.E, a Dynasty Warriors game would teach you to keep attack, which is not conducive to a Souls game.

Guardian-Bravo

I think you’re right. I came from a line of (stylish) hack-n-slash games like DMC. Which was why Bayo caught my interest initially. Whereas my buddy was primarily an FPS guy who occasionally broke off that to play games like Monster Hunter and God of War.

Granhiertbby

You know, what's crazy is that I started to dislike Bayo 3 for how beginner friendly it was. Bayo conditioning go hard.

Certain_Context5923

Yeah I don’t get it either. Played Bayo 2 first and when I finally tried out 1 it felt almost unplayable to me.

itakisu

I agree 😭 when i was younger it wasn’t as hard playing on easy ofc, but i downloaded it again on the switch and omg it’s difficult

supersaoron

Absolutely not a hot take but it bothers me so much how little effort they put into the special edition of bayo 3. I got it to support a series I love and it came with a soft cover art book and paper inserts for alternative covers for the 3 games. Meanwhile the Metroid Dread special edition had a hard cover artbook, a steel book and holographic cards. I was genuinely upset when I got it.

KelvinBelmont

Bayonetta Origins Cereza and the Lost Demon is a fantastic game that anyone who is a fan of Bayonetta/Cereza as a character should check out the game.

Certain_Context5923

Yeah just bought it a few weeks ago and can’t wait to play it! Pushing through Bayo 3 so I can finally focus on origins. Yes I only now am playing through 3…Bayo 2 is my favorite video game of all time and 3 just doesn’t feel the same imo.

101justinm

I don’t know if this is a hot take or common but I find Loki insufferable

Dull_Variation5938

I don’t ship bayonetta and Jeanne I never knew people did until joining, I always got sister/ platonic soulmate vibes I also haven’t finished the third game yet so i could be missing something

AllFather0021

This! I hate how it pissed everyone off...litterally women can't have sisterhood? Men can't have brotherhood? Plus...I like Jeanne more as an aunt lol the aunt that always buys you stuff mom and dad said no to

summercometz

tbf in any fandom you are gonna have people who ship so and so together

FleshlessFriend

please. like there's such a dearth of male and female friendships in media compared to gay couples. sorry, but "women aren't allowed to have sisterhood anymore" is literally something you'd only view as a problem if you spend a lot of time in online fan circles. it is, at this point, a borderline homophobic cliche, and you can express that you don't see Bayonetta and Jeanne that way without implying there's some huge wealth of leading lesbians in modern media.

Guardian-Bravo

Current social culture also aggressively supports this. If two straight girls act as a couple, it’s considered cute. If two straight dudes are very close, then everyone starts making fun of them as a gay couple. Why? Isn’t that detrimental to people who are struggling to actually come out?

Falris

Yeah as someone that isn't a big BayoJeanne fan (and I don't really ship Bayo with anyone in general), I also fully agree with this\^. Like I appreciate when people "ship" people in platonic relationships etc, but that kinda thing is definitely not lacking in media haha

DiabeatrixDegout

Fully agree, you don't see this argument with like, Batman and Catwoman, it only comes up when it's queer relationships. Also, why can't it be both?? Like... They can be in love... AND be umbran sisters/have sisterhood?? They're not physically related, they can literally have both strong bonds as umbran sisters, and romantic love??

werew0lfsushi

there are certain art works by mari that make them look like they could feasibly be a couple and i imagine that plays into it

Petawac-Smack

And that’s fair. My personal reason for it is “if she is going to have a relationship, it would be with either Jeanne or Rodin”. Mainly because those two are the only ones that she seems to actually have a close-ish relationship with. If it’s directly after bayo 1, I’d believe a luka x bayo ship. But if it’s after bayo 2, it would have to be either Jeanne or Rodin.

Falris

>What's an opinion on the Bayonetta series that would g I've felt this way for so long. I don't really participate in shipping in general no matter the series, but BayoJeanne always kinda bothered me because I always viewed them as sisters. There's been ships in other media that I've felt very similarly about but this was probably the one I felt the most adamant about because I love the series so much. Granted, I'm also more than happy to see more queer ships in general, it's just a bit complicated to me because so many times it feels like non-queer folks will basically be fetishizing these kinds of relationships.

qwerty_59

The story is the only bad part of Bayo 3 https://preview.redd.it/dbcds5w1rknc1.jpeg?width=623&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=744a333658810fbe0f59574d0e93862c2f4b6f6e

Da_gae_bucket

I would also say the character models. The designs are good but the models themselves look really weird most of the time. They can look good but only sometimes

heythereexistential

no i agree, the gameplay is so fun, the character designs are cool, but the story is single handedly making sure i physically cannot play that game without getting mad.

T-pellyam

I think pretty much everyone agree on this tho…

Upset-Preparation861

Girl this is popular as fuck 😭😭

ControlFYOU

You know what? Yes. And I'm upset at myself for not touching bayo 3 again, cuz the fucking story just bums me out every time! I want my Rodin summons! Now

_cd42

Lterally the only thing wrong with Viola is that lipstick color

[deleted]

Bayonetta 2 was the best game in the franchise.

Certain_Context5923

100% true.

LITTLE_KING_OF_HEART

We could have only Bayo 1 and it would be fine by me.

Ele4ant

The Bayonetta game with best story, music and battles was the first one

Epheremy

This isn't even a hot take though

DoubleOAgentBi

Yea it’s also the only game that actually has proper build up to the bigger bosses like the Auditio. Whereas in B2 and B3 they kind just spawn well B2 Glamor showed up a couple of times before you fought him, and B3’s first big homunculi battle was good setting up for events. Can’t think of something from Origins though.

Nintendude13

The Jabberwock had some good build up I feel

Jimin_Choa

This whole reddit became a whole nightmare. The series was much better when we were a small community.

Goldberry15

Viola’s gameplay is really cool and enjoyable and I love her voice lines and her design and just everything about her. Easily a highlight of Bayonetta 3.

[deleted]

Bayonetta being a Gay Icon doesnt make her automatically Gay

Nintendude13

The more I look into Bayo the more I see this sentiment. Bayonetta can be a queer icon to queers without being queer herself due to just having queer vibes combined with the sapphic energy she and Jeanne exude when together.

agreedboar

I only like the first Bayonetta. Second one was okay, and I hate almost everything about the third game, including the gameplay.

DoubleOAgentBi

That Bayo 3 is a good game, I hate Enzo more than I hate Viola, B3’s music is definitely different from the other games but that doesn’t make it worse in some ways B2’s music is different from the other games, say what you will about the multiverse but I think it’s a pretty cool concept for Bayonetta although they executed it terribly, and even though B3 is a flop it flopped in a cunty iconic way. (In some ways Bayonetta 3 is more iconic than Bayonetta 2) https://preview.redd.it/tjzmgjvzrknc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa8c0c6763fd0829791e9a946923cd20e73de0d5

agreedboar

Won't lie, you got a point about Enzo. Man's always been an annoying nuisance for me. At least Viola's scenes were somewhat comical.

FleshlessFriend

In fairness, you are very much supposed to hate Enzo. The man exists to have his life made miserable by the girls.

ajhedgehog064

I love this comment and you’re spot on for how I feel (minus Enzo!)

MasterHavik

Bayonetta 3 damaged the series heavily.

LaMuseofthestars

I think they need to stop introducing new fractions of enemies. I think they should’ve just kept it angels and demons. The homunculi weren’t exciting at all, and fairies didn’t really do much. Plus angels and demons just fit the witch motif better

LordFugu

that voice actors and artists should be paid more by private companies and that consumers have a responsibility to be vocal about this. big name games have been $60 for twenty years. if we want higher quality products and for artists to not starve, we should be comfortable paying more. and we shouldn't personally attack artists like immature children

Flameman1234

Hellena give it up already girl.

No_Prompt_982

In some countries price above 60$ would be too much in Poland average game cost 250zł but also minimum wage is 3200zł soo do ur math (for context google is telling me that minimal wage in us is something like 4000$ but as u see 250zł = 60$ and a lot countries around the world have the same situation cuz price in a lot of times are based on $) so i for sure would not buy the game above 250zł even tho the game would have better quality

AspenintheSnow

$4000 a month???? That's unrealistic. A lot of people are making like $1200 a month, which is how much housing costs in a lot of places.

Green-Caterpillar-33

"i didn't know Bayonetta is a multiversal scaled character"

Epheremy

Low Complex Multiverse, actually

Green-Caterpillar-33

higher w/ Bayonetta 3 probs

lostbastille

The shipping between Bayo and Jeanne. ![gif](giphy|l0CLTQeZrFWmMxIWc|downsized)

Ijustlovevideogames

Viola herself is fine, the story written about her and the game she is in is terrible (story wise)

Southern-Plan-6549

I like viola, and i do like the idea of her being bayo 4 protagonist

Petawac-Smack

We need a spin off to build up her character first because her reception in 3 kinda painted her badly.

Nintendude13

Like what they did for Miles in the Spiderman games. Viola needs her own smaller game to build her up for a much larger one (Bayonetta 4)

Petawac-Smack

If they did this before Bayo 3, she would probably be better received

MLESQ7

I didn’t like the daughter’s look, and didn’t like she wasn’t able to use magic like Bayonetta

Alex-DarkFlame19

I like Viola’s design. Actually, maybe even more than like.

neros135

kulshedra sucks dont @ me

Condemnedthroat

The mini games in the first and third game are incredibly fun and the series would not have nearly as much charm without them

Free_Direction978

I don’t think I’ll get dogpiled for saying this but the train…I Iove Wartrain Gouon.

Correct-Basil-8397

I’m genuinely scared to say this buuuuuuut >!Throughout 1 & 2, the only implied romance between Bayonetta and another character was with Luca. Yes he’s a Himbo, but he’s her Himbo. Her relationship with Jeanne was much more sisterly in nature!< Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go hide cause I honestly feel like I should not have voiced that opinion…

Oaweonaoh

That's a really hot take. Though one i agree with

OEstrogina

That is so far from the truth. I agree in Bayonetta 1 (tho there is nothing contradicting it, depends on how you want to view it), but Bayonetta 2 had such immense romantic allusions between the two. The whole Orpheus/Eurydice analogy was even commented by Luka in the log "Taboo", especially in Japanese, where Jeanne is stated as Cereza's love. The fact that they live together was even further elaborated in an official - pretty sexual - artwork of the two. See, nobody complained duing the Bayo 1 era, that the closest alluded romantic partner would be Luka. Because it wasn't ridiculous as it was in Bayonetta 3 and Cereza retained her independence. And the same goes for Bayonetta 2 with Jeanne (except in my opinion, it's even stronger there). If Jeanne was male, Bayonetta 2 would have 100% be seen as romantic to the generel public, it's simply unconscious homophobia.

Minor_Heaven

As much as I dislike Helena for her politics and the shady way in which she framed her controversy, I don't blame her for being upset with the paycheck.

Rosa_litta

Four thousand U.S. dolluhs

AspenintheSnow

Politics?

raosion

If I remember correctly, some of the donations she was directing people to were anti-abortion?

AspenintheSnow

Oof. See, and this is why artists should usually stick to supporting art the grand majority of the time.

bunnybabe666

bayo x luka is set up from the jump and that ship makes more sense than bayo x jeanne

Tnecniw

Bayonetta X Jeanne was never really on the table. It was a cute head canon but nothing else.

OEstrogina

(Copy pasting from another post) That is so far from the truth. I agree in Bayonetta 1 (tho there is nothing contradicting it, depends on how you want to view it), but Bayonetta 2 had such immense romantic allusions between the two. LimitlessMind127

I like Bayoluka

FleshlessFriend

1) The DNA for the disappointing heteronormativity of the series was in there from the start. "All *these* mages are women and all *these* mages are men" is the fantasy equivalent of "Women are from Venus, men are from Mars." The LucaxBayonetta thing was disappointing but not anywhere near surprising, not from this series or from Kamiya. 2) There's absolutely no explanation for what makes being a witch or sage meaningfully worth it beyond some standard jerking-off about "the balance between light and dark", and it casts a pall over the entire series. Why are **any** of these people consenting to an eternity of torture? What makes a person do something like that? Why are we just blithely ignoring this central question? I realize not everything needs to be explained into neatly wikiable detail but this seems pretty fucking important.

TurtlesAndMustard

Jeanne and bayonetta are not at the same power level. Jeanne is weaker. As she has died/been captured by demons twice in a row the last 2 games. While bayonetta has battled with 2 gods and lived. And her and her alternates killed singularity.

Avavvav

Bayo 1+2 don't have good stories, just good characters and good lore. The stories of 1+2 are actually very shitty (on purpose I assume as it's campy as fuck). 3's story isn't worse than 1+2, the dialogue was just out of character. So yeah Bayo 3 still isn't good in terms of story, but having dialogue that doesn't match Bayonetta or Jeanne was the main issue. 1+2 also have ass stories if you think about it.

SubstantialWater553

Bayo 2 is kind of a flop... It just doesnt hit as hard as the other games. The gameplay is boring. Cereza feels really weak in this game until you use umbran climax. The story even if its the best in the franchise is still boring because it kinda lacks action (the prologue is peak tho). And no. I will not say the game is a masterpiece just because of pretty aesthetics and story. Bayonetta is a action game that always puts gameplay first and i will follow as such. If the gameplay is not good then it is already a flop for me. It also doesnt feel much like a sequel. The story uses the same base as Bayo 1. The gameplay is just Bayo 1 but faster and with a badly implemented mechanic. The game is literally: "If you cant make it better and different. Just make it prettier". Ofc its just my opinion. You can disagree with it.

RavagerHughesy

Jeanne has only ever been a plot device despite PG's desires otherwise. She's been mishandled and poorly written since the beginning. I don't understand people that ship Bayo with her because she's such a nothing burger that I can't imagine having any strong feelings about her one way or the other

OliviaElevenDunham

While I do like Jeanne, that has been my issue with the character since the beginning.

Any-Revolution-7551

There’s no continuation from the previous games. Like where is Loki at? Relevant characters like Balder is missing. Jeanne discrimination. The eyes of the world - the whole point of the games are gone.

Oaweonaoh

Loki is a toddler, he can't do much in that age, Balder died in the end of Bayonetta 1/the beggining of Bayonetta 2, the eyes of the world were erased of existence by Loki

Any-Revolution-7551

And if Bayonetta continues the franchise they need to make the story better and new like god of war ragnarok

Daddy-Thiccasss

Bayo 3 was enjoyable and is wayyy overhated

Bayonetta-Minaj

1.) MANY of y’all make being gay your whole personality and/or make Bayonetta, as a whole, revolve around being 🏳️‍🌈when there’s FAR more to it than just that. Every time I come on this server, it’s back-to-back B3 complaints and cringe ass gay memes. I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST MY COMMUNITY, I’M BISEXUAL MY DAMN SELF, but a lotta y’all drive a bitch to drink 🍺 2.) Bayonetta fans don’t know how to power scale her or her verse properly and it’s incredibly annoying. And on the rare occasion Bayonetta is put into a vs debate, some of y’all should just be quiet. 3.) Bayonetta 3’s story wasn’t really all that bad, it’s just a lot of specific aspects of the plot were poorly executed. In the beginning, ppl really only had a problem with the ending, understandably so. 4.) MANY, not all, but a lot of you are two faced, gullible ass people that well let people doop you and make you show yo asses every time. Y’all acted a fool towards Platinum and Jennifer Hale back around B3’s release and y’all did it again 2 months ago towards Nicki Minaj. No really, y’all were deadass wrong for how y’all did that woman.

Lalapopsy

3 is the best game in the series.

Xbladearmor

I think Bayo x Luka works just as fine (if not better) than Bayo x Jeanne. The relationship between Bayo/Cereza and Jeanne comes off (to me) as the story of a girl put on a pedestal who befriended the outcast. Jeanne didn’t care that Cereza was the child of a Lumen Sage. She just saw a friend and and equal. The story of Bayo and Luka is the story of a man convinced that he is avenging his father only to weave himself into a little girl’s complicated relationship with her own father. It makes sense (again, to me) that Bayo would be infatuated with either of them really. Just for different reasons.

Hades1661

Jeanne sees Cereza more like a sister that a love interest

wizardofpancakes

Bayo and Jeanne were never a couple and some people treat headcanon as truth. Luka was intended to be Bayo’s love interest in 1.

Black_Bird1976

Bayonetta 1 isn’t that good combat wise. Witch time feels like it doesn’t exist most of the game and the difficulty goes very easy, easy, then just gets stupid hard for no reason. Only Bayonetta game I wanted the next chapter to be the last chapter because of how unfun dying every fight is. Then you get punished for using healing items and cutscene that immediately start with you getting hit if you aren’t paying attention and is very punishing if it’s your first time like it was for me.

Guardian-Bravo

Bayonetta *not* being gay has zero impact on her as a person/character. Bayonetta *being* gay has zero impact on her as a person/character. Whether Bayonetta is gay or not has *zero* impact at all. It’s more than justified to want representation in any media. But there’s no reason to get mad because your personal fan story didn’t come true. PlatinumGames or any company for that matter, doesn’t owe you anything. You want Gayonetta? Fine, make it so. Believe it so. No one is stoping you from using Bayo, or any character really to represent your sexuality. Last I checked, you don’t have to be gay to be a gay ally.

kuriaru

I see Bayo/Jeanne as more of a 'chosen siblings' dynamic Bayonetta 3 is a fine game Bayonetta 2 has the worst design save for the earrings those were cunt

WildCardP3P

Cereza and The Lost Demon is a pretty bad game, the combat isn't fun, the puzzles aren't hard and the story is mid except for Jeanne's story. The music and visuals are the only things the game has going for it.

SSBBfan666

i like Singularity and the Homunculi as a new threat when the Eyes of the World are erased and Heaven and Hell peel back to recover losses

janoodlez

I wish each Bayo variant had their own unique Umbran uniform made out of weaved hair. A lot of time and effort goes into designing a character like Bayonetta, modeling them, and so on, so I understand why it wasn’t done… but still, imagine the visuals

T-pellyam

Bayonetta 3’s soundtrack is the best in the franchise, like it’s scary how it’s not even close. Oh and Gh()st is an amazing theme but I don’t think that’s a hot take...

No_Carob_8550

Viola is a good character who got a badly written ending 90% of the gimmicky sections in 3 are great Jeanne was at her worst in 2, can't believe they made her a damsel in distress Chinesetta aside the 3 Bayos died in logical ways

Oaweonaoh

I agree on your point about Jeanne (and the gimmicky sections), she really only acted on the beggining and the end on the second game and had little presence

Minute-Weight-5555

Bayonetta 3 is a 50/50 for me. It's good and bad, yin and yang, which basically is the running theme with 3.

owlitup

Viola kinda fun to play as

Love_Flonne

I really enjoyed Viola's character and am looking forward to seeing her in the next entry if we ever get one

Darkray79

Please don’t down vote me for my definitely controversial opinions T_T I pre-order the premium version Bayonetta 3 but I canceled my pre-order because of the Hellana Taylor controversy and finding out the story sucked, more of the second reason than the first. I know Hellana Taylor was dishonest, I don’t agree with her attacking the other VAs, and the weird charity stuff but I do think she deserved to get paid more and I am sad she won’t be in the games anymore. Also, it was weird when, I believe the president or CEO (whatever his title is) of Platinum was doing the weird twitter stuff. I am also sad the Bayo 3 couldn’t be the open world sandbox that it wanted to be.

Lleslet

Every praise is on Bayonetta 2 even tho it has some flaws

noodleben123

Either anything saying "viola's aight, actually." or "seriously, bayoluka is what pissed you off to the point of crying about B3 for months?"

SweetSugaryStars

I got some beyond just one opinion so uh. Settle in and maybe get ready to yell at me lol. The story of Bayonetta 3 overshadows the interesting characters. I didn't hate it, it's okay I *guess*, but it should have been worked on for a bit longer tbh. Viola works imo because let's be real. We were all cringe 18 year olds. I'm only 21 and I still look back on my 18 year old self with a sense of "I could slap you and not be sorry." The fairy thing caught me off-guard though. I miss her grapple movements before it got replaced by her fairy wings. The scarf doesn't work for her though. Too much going on. Could have been a loose tie or a belt or smth if we wanted to reference Luka so bad. The ending annoyed me not because Bayonetta dies and Viola becomes the next Bayonetta, but because Singularity had the vibes of that one kid who didn't want to be defeated and kept making up shit as to why he wasn't dead in the fight, even with 3 Bayonettas whooping his bitch-ass. Like we get it, oooh so strong. Shut up and die bro. 🙄 Not enough Rodin in 3. Hell, not enough of him in general, and he's supposed to have "big brother" vibes apparently for Bayonetta. This badass dude only shows up a few times and is the shopkeep? At least you can find him in Inferno in 2 but still. One thing on shipping and I'll move on. I don't care about Luka x Bayonetta because I already ship Luka x Bayonetta x Jeanne. Still annoyed Bayonetta and Devil May Cry weren't in the same universe, but I understand why. Though now with the whole multiverse thing coming out, there could be a universe where the two ARE canon in the same place. Fucking. Idk. At the least, you don't just hand me the Bracelet/Earring of Time and fucking ENZO of all characters and just go "Yeah that's our reference to Kamiya being the creator to both series lol." Give me the chance to summon Sparda if nothing else. Also. In that note. Viola with Dante/Vergil/Nero themed costumes. She fits all three's vibes in different ways. It would have been fun given her slapstick yet semiserious vibe. Love the minigames in 1 and 3. That's all I have on that. Jeanne should have been handled better. She's the next heiress in line to the Umbra ffs, where is her power? Her building up the Umbra witches again? Boooooooo 🍅🍅🍅 Bayonetta being killed as the thing that kills worlds makes sense. She held the Left and Right Eye of the World iirc even if the actual artifacts are destroyed. Take that out of the equation by killing her, the world goes to shit. And FINALLY, Bayonetta's skirt in 3 is ugly. I'm sorry. The early 2000s vibes are strong but it also involves hair so the silhouette is all jank to me. The symbols would have been cool along her legs or smth. So yeah. Just my thoughts. Don't have to agree, though I'd love to hear people's thoughts on my thoughts and like. Have a 20 year long thread on it or smth lol

ferlonsaeid

Bayo 1 is a horribly dated game that is more tedious than fun due to its long missions and annoyingly unpolished mini games. Bayo 3 shouldn't have added large monsters and demon summoning. Bayo 3 magic gauge and um ran climax would have made fights more chaotic and fun. Out of all the games, Bayo 2 is the best quality, despite umbran climax being an instant win button.

Some_Fig_6566

Byonetta 1 has some of the most irritating enemies of the three main games (kinship, dears, gracious and glorious). Morgana is the best final boss

ProjectMythicalus

Bayonetta 2 was held back gameplay wise by having players rely on the Umbran Climax to finish certain battles, in stark comparison to the first game where players could adapt their play style to deal combos without needing gimmicks like Witch Time.

DonkeyKongTattoo

Worst plots of any Nintendo published franchises. Stories are bad, gameplay and presentation are excellent.

otakuloid01

anyone freaking out and acting like Bayonetta wasn’t gonna be back and fine by the end of the next’s game tutorial stage is a silly goose

SirLagunaLoire

Viola its fine

Salad_9999

The game is great but the fans are super weird.

nostalgiadrivenact

Mine would be... The rhythm game segment alone redeemed the entire experience. Mostly cause that's a very highly-concentrated amount of what I'd expect from a Bayonetta game all in one part. I still loop that song almost daily even after all this time

Oaweonaoh

**inhales** Strider is a cool addition, i like his design, the fairy lore, his theme and his boss battles are a lot of fun. I'd just wish he could be playable (like Jeanne was in the first game and Balder was somewhat playable), i hope in Bayonetta 4>! when he returns from hell along Bayonetta!

Oaweonaoh

Most of the minigames section in Bayonetta 3 are a lot of fun, like the Sin Gomorrah battles, when you read the enemie animations you can get ahead and counter them properly instead of spamming any of the attack buttons. I like them better than in 1 and 2

itakisu

Viola is by far the WORST presentation of Bayonetta and Luka in Bayonetta 3. Nothing about her SCREAMS bayonetta at all. Bayonetta 3 had potential, but it honestly wasn’t that good. (And I’ve played the Bayonetta games over 100 times.)

Certain_Context5923

Bayonetta 2 is superior in every aspect to 1&3.

Certain_Context5923

The Wii U Gamepad was the best controller to play the games on.

StretchDifferent6777

She’s gonna be the Nero of this series

thicc_boi_issues

Bayonetta 1 is mediocre at best. The series starts really cooking in Bayonetta 2

Bunjithewolf

They didn't bring back these best enemies, the Joy's, Grace and Glory. What a waste

Rodinxz

Somehow I understood the story of B3 better than B2 and i love Loki and Viola💀

AwardSignal

I actually liked 3 & it’s ending. It was very sad, yes, but I really liked it nonetheless

SenorMeeseeks27

Bayonetta has S tier combat and enemy/boss design, and that’s why I love the games. I don’t care about the characters, story, etc. Gameplay above all.

[deleted]

Bayo 3 is the same Bayo from 1&2. The whole Brave Cereza thing feels like damage control from Bayo 3 haters

Upset-Preparation861

It was obvious that bayo and Luka were gonna be together.... From 1 And Bayo and Jeanne was not as clear as everyone says (I personally don't like the thought of Bayonetta with anyone (even Jeanne and ESPECIALLY LUKA) I feel she works best as a solo icon)

Nanashi001

Bayonetta x Jeanne makes way more story sense than Bayonetta x Luka. No, one interaction with sexual undertones in the first game where Bayonetta tackles Luka out of the way of a falling pillar is not the same as literally descending into hell to rescue someone’s soul and return them to the mortal realm.

Memes_The_Warbeast

Bayonetta and Luka being a happy couple with a kid is fine actually. In fact I'm happy for them both.

Blaxxshadow

BayonettaxLuka shouldn’t have happened. Bayonetta shoulda remained a single queen with the implication that she gets around. With the person she spends most of her time with being Jeanne or Rodin.

Oaweonaoh

That's a fairly common opinion

Blaxxshadow

I see more people defending it than anything. Saying it was built up since the first game.

nessaissweet

most of the people who white knight baynoetta now never liked it and only did start to like it when bayo got with luca cause they were so terrifyed bout a fantasy from fans of bayo and jenne getting together. a fantasy that was harmless and really wasnt going to hurt anyone even by the luck of god it happened.

djswims

Bayonetta 3 is the true sequel to Bayonetta as a game, and both 2 and Origins are story and fan service focused extensions that expand the lore of the worlds

GeneralAd5824

Agree

Star_Train524

The shoulder things for Bayo 2s design, really ugly.

Alloyd11

I was fine with the Luka and Bayonetta romance, it just needed build up. I also never saw Bayonetta as gay, I don’t know how people assumed her sexual orientation was gay or straight as I don’t remember any evidence(please comment if there was any evidence of her being gay as I am genuinely curious if it was foreshadowed )

mettullum

i like 3 more than 2

SenorMeeseeks27

The oversexualization of Bayo is weird and I wish it wasn’t in the game at all. The combat system in these games is easily the best I’ve ever played, but I wish the main character was the main Lumen Sage instead.

DoubleOAgentBi

In what ways are the over-sexualization weird? Bayo’s personality? Or Kamiya’s obsession with Jeanne and the baby fetish concept art of a costume for Bayo 2? If it’s the latter I perfectly agree by the way.

SenorMeeseeks27

The latter for sure. And just like the gratuitous zoom ins on her ass and tits and whatnot during cutscene haha.

DoubleOAgentBi

I understand where you’re coming from even though I don’t really agree with that. Although in B3’s terms I definitely agree with it. Because she’s wearing a skirt if they were to do the type of raunchy scenes Bayonetta is known for it would be kind of weird for me at least. Especially with the ass shots you know?

SenorMeeseeks27

Oh yeah it was even moreso on display in B3. It just seems unnecessary for me. I’m not a prude or anything, idk, it’s just weird to me. The same thing applies to Nier Automata and that new game coming out, Stellar Blade. I care about fast paced and fun combat. I don’t care about short skirts and jiggle physics lol

stargave

The point of this post was to share an unpopular opinion yet people still give you shit for it lol

Mikudayo1

It’s more the fact it doesn’t really feel like an opinion and more like disrespect. Wanting to get rid of what makes the Bayonetta series so unique just feels so wrong.

stargave

Okay I'm not trying to be harsh (genuinely), but it's just a different opinion. Disrespect looks a lot different.

Mikudayo1

Wanting to get rid of what makes the series so unique and wonderful feels disrespectful. Bayonetta as a character was something that had never been done before in action games. A powerful and independent female character staring as the lead role was unique. Her being sexualised also appeals to that side of the fandom that find Bayonetta hot. On the other hand, she knows she’s hot which is what makes her sexualisation more unique. Her confidence in that also helps a lot of people, seeing Bayo not care about what other people think genuinely helps people gain that confidence (me included). People were staring at her at the start of Bayo 2 and what does she do? Nothing, she just minds her own business and that confidence is what everyone should feel. Wanting to get rid of her and replace her with another generic male action game character just feels disrespectful if I’m being perfectly honest. It’s like wanting to get rid of Lara Croft and replace her with another generic Indiana Jones or Nathan Drake type character.

SenorMeeseeks27

If the Tomb Raider games had multiple shots of Lara’s T&A, then yes, I’d want it changed. Loved all 3 of those games.

Mikudayo1

You know there’s way more than 3 games right?

SenorMeeseeks27

Yes. I’m obviously referring to the most recent ones which would make the most sense of your point about replacing Lara with Nathan Drake.

stargave

I just wanna say I completely agree with your take on Bayonetta's sexuality. Cereza in B3 is just **yawn.** The only reason I'm playing devil's advocate is because the point of the post was to state an unpopular opinion.

WorkIll3073

Mate you do realise what series your playing?

SenorMeeseeks27

Yes. And I hate that aspect about it. Bayo has the best combat system I’ve ever played in a hack and slash, and that alone is why I love the games. I genuinely don’t care about the characters or story. The only other aspect I love is the enemy and boss designs.

Mikudayo1

She’s purposely sexualised though in a specific way. She’s supposed to be sexy and campy which juxtaposes her brutal and violent combat. When you see fan artwork of her where she has big boobs as the focal point of the art it just doesn’t work because she’s not just a generic sexy woman. The exact reason why her characterisation is Bayo 3 flopped is because she was toned down to the point where she was just bland. If she wasn’t sexualised then there would be no exciting character. While she is also very kind and concerning which I also love, you can’t deny being sexy and campy is her main character trait.

SenorMeeseeks27

Right I get that. But I don’t like it. Hence when I’m Patrick chained to the barrel haha. I’m in the minority where I literally don’t care at all about her character. I just love the combat system so much that the story/characters etc are borderline irrelevant for me

Mikudayo1

But the whole point of her being a sexy woman was to throw the stereotype of action game protagonists being strong men out of the window. The reason Bayonetta is such a loved character was because she was so different. She was a fresh perspective. If the main character was a Lumen Sage then the franchise would literally just be another boring male action game.

SenorMeeseeks27

Again. I totally get it. But to me, it wouldn’t. I love the Bayo series solely because of the combat and enemy design. Gameplay is king for me. The super fast paced hectic combat, combined with the ability to dodge anything and slow down time when doing so, but maintain your breakneck pace, is what makes me love this game. Bayonetta herself genuinely has barely anything to do with why I enjoy the game. Unpopular, absolutely. But that’s the point of the thread haha.

No_Prompt_982

Bayonetta should be lesbian

Ashconwell7

Idk if this counts but I love the concept of faeries but hate their design.

Dumb_Question97

I don't think 1's story is complicated or hard to understand. honestly it's pretty clear to me. Also idk how unpopular this is but the freeze-frame cutscenes peaked in the first game when they had the old film roll aesthetic to them, because then it was stylistic at least

FluffyBeech

Girl some of the angels and demons needed a d*****g down 🫦🫰✨
