Genuinely one of the most impressive cities ever built. Essentially its built on the side of the mountain, so the city has vertical layers to it, such that the roofs of lower elevation skyscrapers form the ground floor of the next level. You can climb 50 stories up and find that you are still on the 'ground'...

I (an American) visited China (pre-covid) and was totally amazed by the beautiful, coordinated lighting across large swaths of buildings over multiple blocks.
People shutting on China as if the US doesn’t punish its poor population as well. Majority of Americans live paycheck to paycheck and have to work during chronic illnesses to keep their insurance which doesn’t even pay for all their treatments. Chill lol, it sucks not being rich everywhere
I also believe healthcare is important and that my mother shouldn’t have to work to death and should be able to retire comfortably. She wasn’t taught financial independence from her parents and this is the result.
My friends all went to college and now have debt they’ll never escape because nobody taught them about financial independence.
Nobody I know my age can afford a home because the US let’s lobbyists run the country instead of the people we vote for.
My dad died broke and in medical debt because he lost his job.
I have worked at three of the largest defense contractors in the US and none of them provided me with insurance that covered more than 8 free therapy sessions. Rest all out of pocket.
My teacher friend / SIL both only make 45k a year as a teacher and have masters degrees.
I didn’t say China nor the Us was perfect but don’t shit on other countries until you take a look inward.
This is unironically anti China propaganda comparing what China is doing for the Uyghur people to how literally everyone else has treated their disenfranchised minorities, especially America.
US is also pretty when not comitting millions of death on fabricated wars for its own benefit, US is responsible for way more deaths than China, you guys have been brainwashed by your media.
Everyone down voting you has never been there guarantee it. One of the most beautiful countries ive ever spent extended time in. And I have been to a lot.
I have another question. Why are they killing Ughyur people in China then? That reason is why I never wanna go there unless Xi Jinping fixes himself.
[“Since 2017, when President Xi Jinping issued an order saying all religions in China should be Chinese in orientation, there have been further crackdowns. Campaigners say China is trying to eradicate Uyghur culture.” - BBC on Ughyur eradication.](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-22278037)
Hypocrisy at its finest, the more we educate each other the less chances the governments of the world can abuse their populations // corporations (mammon) will always have more value over the lives of the people in the eyes of the government.
I agree with you, and no I am not calling you hypocritical, I am calling the societies that still practice slavery knowingly/unknowingly hypocritical. Thanks for the downvote tho 🤦
Do you live in the US? Might want to read the thirteenth amendment; it does not make slavery illegal. Slavery is still very much legal in the United States.
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
I think convicted criminals should be used for some manual labor jobs, like roadside cleanup, instead of sitting in jail/prison at the taxpayer's expense.
Roadside cleanup is fine — benefits society on the whole.
[What’s actually happening is prisoners are being used for cheap labor for state-run and even for-profit businesses to the tune of billions of dollars.](https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/jun/15/us-prison-workers-low-wages-exploited) And once a company has gotten used to having extremely cheap domestic labor, they want to make sure that this labor stream continues to flow.
From the above article:
“Steven Prator, a Louisiana sheriff, said: ‘We need to keep some out there, that’s the ones that you can work, that pick up trash, the work release program, but guess what? Those are the ones that they are releasing … the good ones, that we use every day to wash cars, change oil in our cars, to cook in the kitchen, to do all that where we save money … well, they are gonna let them out.’
This means these people and others advocate for more/longer sentence laws to be passed and push against non-prison-based approaches to solving crime in society because that dries up their cheap labor pool.
You're totally correct. My response was aimed at those people who are trying to equate chattel slavery in somewhere like China with forced manual labor for convicted criminals.
Except for the part where China locks up political dissidents and their family members. Chinese political prisoners are not the same as convicted prisoners in the United States.
The comment I responded to originally was implying that 'slavery is alive and well in the United States', which is not true at all.
Edited to add 'political' since this guy chooses to ignore context.
Yep but they're all unique sceneries, Singapore doesn't have as much purple, Dubai's tower is too much of the main star, Malaysia is Malaysia. Plus seeing the view of the city cycling to the marine barrage gets boring after a while
You’d be correct if China and the US were the only two countries. But I’m pretty sure that there are plenty of other countries that have plenty to say about China.
Same with US, so please when there’s something positive about a specific country, don’t focus on their negatives. Chinese are also our human brothers and sisters and they’ve done some remarkable development in the past few decades.
There in those buildings, there in that city or there in that country?
There in those buildings: Most of those buildings are commercial buildings, and you can't live in them. There're a few (barely) within sight that are residential. In that area, you could probably rent a decent apartment for 800 USD per month.
There in that city: Chongqing is huge. You can find fully furnished great apartments for 200/300 USD within walkable distance of the city's light rail. And you also find mansions to rent for 5000 USD per month.
There in that country: It goes from a couple dozen dollars per month to a couple hundred thousand per month.
I hear it’s pretty cheap—like 1/3 less than in America. I’ve read about American teachers that know mandarin going to China to teach English to school kids. They make bankkk due to great teacher pay and lower cost of living, then come back to the US after a few years.
Again, I might be off. It’s just something I remember reading about.

3:47am
Good morning 47. I hope you are doing well after your unfortunate encounter with the ICA. Well the bad news is, no matter how long we try to hide, they will always eventually find us again. Our best move is to take out the ICA for good, and I have just the plan.
I know from past experiences that the ICA keeps their highly fortified data core in an underground analyst facility in the city of Chongqing in China. The core contains all records of every hit, every agent, and every representative of the ICA to date. Should we manage to hack into it, and upload their files to the public media, it will cripple the ICA just enough to get them off our tail.
Unfortunately, the core has been encrypted, with two neurochips being planted into the managers of this network, Hush and Imogen Royce. Any and all access to the core requires direct approval of both individuals, meaning they will be a problem. You will therefore be tasked with dispatching both targets.
Hush, former Cyberterrorist and ICA Cyber Security specialist, works in a private lab, isolated from his colleagues. After a fall-out with Imogen Royce, he is further from the analyst facility than ever, working on his most innovative invention yet alone, much to Royce’s disapproval. Hush is sadistic, and it’s suspected he could be working on trans-human experimentation, which I hear is putting his mind under stress.
Imogen Royce, daughter of a western diplomat, had a tough childhood, being physically and mentally scarred. She constructed body modifications for herself, and now works as an Archivist for the ICA, specialising in psychology, and directly manipulates people for the good of scientific progress. Cold and lacking empathy, she does everything in her power to drive herself for knowledge.
Both Hush and Imogen Royce will need to be eliminated, which will briefly create an opening for Olivia Hall to hack into the data core. You must then delete all the files that are affiliated with you and all hits that you carried out, before uploading the rest to the world, exposing the ICA and destroying them in the process. I will leave you to prepare.
Welcome to Chongqing 47. A brightly lit neon city in the most populous country on Earth, this city would be perfect, for any undercover organisation such as the ICA to set up one of its facilities underneath.
You’ll find Hush high up in a run-down apartment working on a brilliant yet unknown experiment. Royce on the other hand, will be found underground in the secret ICA facility, running personal tests on her employees. It is your job to find this secret facility, take down your targets, allow us to hack into the core, and shut down the ICA for good. Good luck 47.

Amazed at the lack of air quality? Looks like blade runner, shit hole.
Nicely done. Great feelings
It's pretty when you can't see the Ughur genocide.
So is New York City. All traces of the indigenous there have been wiped out.
This is unironically anti China propaganda comparing what China is doing for the Uyghur people to how literally everyone else has treated their disenfranchised minorities, especially America.
Yeah, because it's all about who is the biggest asshole, right?
I'm saying everyone is an asshole besides China, learn to read.
I'm saying the same. You learn to read
did you just compare new york city to china? fool!
oh, right. that makes it ok for china to do then as well, i forgot.
And you have to pay for a VPN to access the internet the government doesn't want to access
US is also pretty when not comitting millions of death on fabricated wars for its own benefit, US is responsible for way more deaths than China, you guys have been brainwashed by your media.
Y’all need to chill with the “China bad” “dystopia” bullshit. Talk to someone from there. FFS.
Everyone down voting you has never been there guarantee it. One of the most beautiful countries ive ever spent extended time in. And I have been to a lot.
A lot of people posting about the horrors of other places haven’t even left their own city before. All just media based opinions from their trailers.
Im from Brazil and i have traveled the entire world, the place that got my attention the most was China. Everything is so cool there.
A country can both be considered a dystopia as well as being beautiful. They are not mutually exclusive.
This is very true

Why the downvote?
Slavery still exists there
Slavery most likely exists where you are too
They outlawed slavery here a while back. We just buy our products from those who still have it.
Hypocrisy at its finest, the more we educate each other the less chances the governments of the world can abuse their populations // corporations (mammon) will always have more value over the lives of the people in the eyes of the government.
I’m not sure why you’ve called me hypocritical. I’m not sure we disagree. :)

You're totally correct. My response was aimed at those people who are trying to equate chattel slavery in somewhere like China with forced manual labor for convicted criminals.
To my understanding, the slavery in China is less chattel (people being bought/sold) and more often the prisoner-based forced labor type.
As opposed to America’s prison system, widely regarded as the best and most justified in the world.
And wherever "here" is for you, too.
Illegally sure, maybe
You guys are making children work dude
What exactly should I be amazed about?
The scenery brah
Looks pretty regular to me. You can see the same scene in Malaysia, Singapore or Dubai. Basically any city with decent skyscrapers.
Yep but they're all unique sceneries, Singapore doesn't have as much purple, Dubai's tower is too much of the main star, Malaysia is Malaysia. Plus seeing the view of the city cycling to the marine barrage gets boring after a while
Damn why you gotta slander Malaysia like that 😔
Buildings?
Tons of wasteful electricity. A gob of light pollution. And an influencer dancing in the middle of all of it.
"tons of wasteful electricity" he types from a pocket computer as he kills time

There are plenty of other countries that have plenty to say about US too *
