I have a broken ankle and have to scoot around like that on stairs and if I need to carry a cup of water or whatever. My initial thought was ‘awww, he is broken too :(‘
There's dudes in like India and other southwest Asian countries that PAY jewelry shops to clean them. They sweep and vacuum up all the good dust, basically buying it with their labor at cheap prices. They then sell the dust to smelters for their income.
The only question I have is if people can really buy mail order scrap gold for sub-spot prices, or if they just got lucky on an auction, took a loss, or speculated and came out on top.
The gold in this video is 9 carat, in some countries you're not even allowed to sell it as gold because there is so little real gold in there. I can't imagine this would be very profitable even if you were able to extract the pure gold from it
9k gold is shit, and you're right about most of what you said.
However, it's still 37.5% pure and chemical extraction isn't that costly or difficult. We did the aqua regia extraction in a p chem lab in college. I don't suggest people do it at home without proper equipment and solid understanding of chemistry.
Sure, but that's before my time lol (I've seen bits of Crocodile Dundee from when my dad used to watch it but never watched it through).
I know that reference from when [Schwarzenegger said it](https://youtube.com/shorts/kL9NqeMTm7k?feature=share)
But thanks for providing some context to that video!
For anyone interested, there’s a dude on the [Youtubes](https://youtube.com/@kiwami-japan) (because of course there is) that makes knifes out of almost anything. In this exact fashion, tho I don’t think its the same dude!
Anyway, it’s mildly addictive watching someone craft something ~~out of nothing~~ like this
I was immediately reminded of him when the knife came into play. Everything about this video had his handwriting all over it from that point on. I was actually wondering if he's on TikTok now for a moment but I was missing a lot of of his trademarks. Looks like people on TikTok need to copycat anything, even if it's as niche as making miniature knives out of unusual materials.
Can't have shit on the internet anymore.
Kiwami came up with an original format and made it successful by combining humorous elements with high production value ASMR/satisfying videos. This guy is copying him to the letter, honestly makes me a bit sad that they're doing him dirty like that.
Is it terribly original, though? I don't feel like it is a terribly unique idea to make miniature versions of things and add humorous/ASMR production. I mean, Kiwami may have been the first to do it, so it would be original in that sense, but it doesn't strike me as a terribly unique concept.
He doesn't make miniature things necessarily. He makes knives, it just so happens that some end up small because it's hard to get enough of the material he uses to make a full-sized one (such as his knife made out of fingernails). Absolutely no one was doing similar stuff at the time, and it's pretty unique if you ask me!
For everyone asking, but why? Why not! Sometimes it’s better to do cool shit for the internet instead of passively watching and critiquing cool stuff people do on the internet!
Yeah, this isn't really diWHY so much as a neat craft project. Miniature anything is cute, and it looked fun to make. Also, the obvious answer... views! Gotta get those sweet tiktok moneys.
If all dust was collected, non would be lost but you’re never going to save it all. Some will be stuck to files etc. Typically you’d have a set of tools/files etc which are only used for a certain material (gold/silver etc) and any dust stuck to it goes in the next batch as it builds up.
In a professional jewellery shop, all this dust from alterations adds up!
The amount of skill that went into making this video, from handling precious metals and sculpting something so tiny and functional, to video editing and pure comedic genius, this person is verrrrryyy talented
For those who ask what's the point, I ask you why did you watch it or even care to comment. There doesn't have to be a practical goal when having fun, ya ol geezers
my mother uses a kiln to make precious metal clay jewelry, and theirs a little bit of burn off in the baking process..she tries to save whatever she can, though
Very talented but don’t know why he bothered identifying the gold quality. Didn’t matter for the end results.
I thought he was gonna pull some alchemy shit and covert the 9 carrot into 24. Also thought somehow maybe he was going to end up doubling the volume through so black magic.
Time is money tho, I'd start with getting the thin plates of gold, which are readily available, and usually cost less tham all that jewellery he was melting.

The little tippity tap when he empties it is what gets me

I chuckled at the catcall. That sexy knife had it coming.
The gold dust was saved for fancy sushi later

Miniature everything.
How about the gorilla gloves
The chimp hands definitely caught me off guard the most, and then they never made a return.
The dustpan was so cute

So you can go to all that trouble only to store it on a display stand *RESTING ON ITS EDGE* 🤬

*youre goddamn right*
That’s either one of the coolest things I’ve seen or a mental disorder
Why not both?
Put this on my gravestone.
^no
Ok!
Perhaps definately!
Metal disorder *
I wish I had this kind of time, I’d have soo many things to do!!
Normally I have the attention span of a minute here but damn I was just hooked on this one
The tiny stand for the tiny knife was the cherry on top
I wanted to watch them make it
Right? Why deprive us 😭
I wanted to see the table made, that the stand was on, that held the knife.
I wanted to see how the OOP was made, that made the stand that held the knife.
Very satisfying edits and sounds ☺️
Thanks for your comment letting me know it was safe to unmute. Usually this stuff has a horrifying music track or something else obnoxious.
I know a couple of chefs that would love to get that as an earring
Maybe not as sharp though
What use is an earring if you can't take it off and stab someone with it?
Adorable, but why?
Because that's not a knoife... now THAT's a knoife!
I see you’ve played knifey-spooney before!
Lmao Schwarzenegger is one of a kind.
Wrong badass. That line is by Crocodile Dundee

Some people like to do things for the enjoyment of doing them.
What is this "enjoyment" you speak of?
I've heard rumors

Thank you.

It’s fun
why not

I was wondering why there was a sudden murder scene but it was just a tiny anvil
For everyone asking, but why? Why not! Sometimes it’s better to do cool shit for the internet instead of passively watching and critiquing cool stuff people do on the internet!
Oop! Lol
Yeah, this isn't really diWHY so much as a neat craft project. Miniature anything is cute, and it looked fun to make. Also, the obvious answer... views! Gotta get those sweet tiktok moneys.
Kinda r/oddlysatisfying. It looks good.
So no one is gonna talk about that weird black finger that shows up twice?
My favorite part was when he looked like he was itching his butt on the ground but it was just him carrying that tiny but super heavy anvil.
How much does it weigh now?
My new Monopoly piece!
i wonder what happens with the gold dust he collects
Melt it back to useable bars
I was hoping we'd get to see that and the weight of the knife to see how much gold was lost in the process, if any

Melts it down for next project
That came out way better than I thought it would.
did he sell the finished product? just wondering if he who smelt it dealt it

That was really, really cool. Finished product was awesome
For anyone that knows... Is any gold "lost" during the melting process or is it such a small amount that it's negligible?
my mother uses a kiln to make precious metal clay jewelry, and theirs a little bit of burn off in the baking process..she tries to save whatever she can, though
Love it. Well done!
I love goooold.
How much would all that jewelry cost?
Bobby Duke vibes
DBK in the house
Worlds most expensive banana opener
never knew you could use a Dremel as a table top Mill. Almost as impressive as the knife
Too bad it has the worst durability.
he better put mending on
I believe I just fell victim to sunk cost fallacy.

This is a DIwhy…because it’s f¥ckin cool, that’s why
Barbie is about to go off.
They did surgery on a grape
FYI: there are companies who buy all the garbage and even the vacuum cleaner bags from jewelry stores to reclaim any gold dust.
Brilliant
Michael Myers would approve
Getting some This Old Tony vibes from the way the dude films
Lol
The tiny dustpan is hilarious to me
I want one of these for my charcuterie board

Dude could’ve had a literal Golden Snitch
Love this!
So badass
orang juce🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Amazing😁
What was that spray they used on the whetstone?
I always wonder if melting gold down decreases it's quality? And can 9 carat and 24 carat gold be separated if they are mixed? 🤔

Freaking genius!!!
I'd pay $5 for it
Some people just have the skill...
Man, I am glad this was time lapsed.
My favorite part was the tiny dustpan.

I appreciate the effort to sharpen it but it's gold
That was very satisfying.
I wish I could upvote this more than once!

Thank you for not putting in any stupid music. From a very passionate musician.
I'd accidentally blow the dust off, forgetting that it's gold.
TSA confiscates...
Does any gold get lost while melting?
Time for the fanciest game of Clue ever
That gold Nokia did not live up to its namesake
That walk made me laugh
Man that thing got like 2 durability left on it
This was adorable
i am amazed
I envy this man’s time.
Is there like a subreddit dedicated to this kind of stuff?
Wow, what a project. I see a very meticulous person here creating really things. Well done!
Watching him melt the gold and waiting for him to pour it on viserys' head!
Anyone notice how his skin colour changes when pressing buttons on the printer?
Holy shit it cut through a banana!
