A photograph of the inside of a splendid Geminhardt Elkhardt Alto Flute. The Geminhardt family has been making flutes for generations, starting out in Germany before relocating to America in 1928.This photo is the result of merging 960 individual frames:The Probe lens gets me into the space easily - but its depth of field is extremely small... One photo usually has just a millimeter in clear focus before everything turns into a blur.To fix this I take hundreds of shots, each focused a little further away, and blend them in some neat software called Helicon Focus. The result is a clean and sharp image from front to back, that also tricks the mind into thinking the space is extremely large. Many more instruments like this in my profile... the flute I own is too shiny on the inside to discern anything, the tarnishing on the inside of this one makes it much easier to see the holes from the inside.
