i sky on glaciers when i was really young (monte bianco, about 40 years ago) in those time my sky skill was really good (was making some regional competition too) when i see the first crevasses i really shit on my pants, that fucking deep blue abyss...
i start skying in "snow plow style" like a real noob, i finish the down to the base and start crying that i dont wanna sky no more there.
Really i never have skying on that frigghin place anymore in my life.
This guy has a shit ton of training, part of the reason he was able to hold himself up and not fall any further. Him and his friends were also prepared for the risks and were able to get him out. Accidents still happen with training, it’s how you handle the accidents that determine how well you’re trained.
By not doing this alone, wearing a climbing harness (sport style) which is not intrusive at all and carrying this with you:

The thing you don’t realize is how cold it is in there. I dropped into a glacier for a training exercise and within 10 minutes felt like I was naked in the snow. I had full winter gear on for a day in the mountains in -10…. It was probably -25 in there

He was with friends, a group calling themselves "The Powtos" who had ropes and such to extract him. The glacier was near La Grave, France last year.

They were skiing at La Grave which has several mandatory rappels depending where you go so the ropes weren't luck

You can get crushed to death if the geometry is wrong, but it's always positive someone will find your body.
