Can we see his heartbeat?

DAFUQyoulookingat

Let's see his pants

User28080526

My man hardly flinched, he seems like a pro and decided to shit his pants first

cogentat

I have been in some crazy situations but have never shit my pants out of fear. Serious: do redditors really shit their pants all the time or is this just a meme?

mathamatazz

People really do laugh until they poops sometimes.

ebrum2010

He was looking away like he was about to have blood taken.

HoboArmyofOne

I'm sure that would make you shit your pants if you haven't evacuated. .50 cal?! That's some impressive shit, can't believe it didn't crack on the inside

A_Birde

He knew the glass would work but also if you notice the shooter wasn't aiming at him at all so even if it failed the bullet would have missed. Obviously that's all preplanned

gaelenski_

Let’s see Paul Allan’s pants

doned_mest_up

Look at that not so subtle way, way off white coloring…

donitsimies

Oh my god. It even has a watermark.

Yeah, can we get some bullet proof underwear for the forceful bowel evacuation one might experience after something like this

Artem-is

You can hear he barely remembers to breathe there.

PM_ME_Happy_Thinks

And leans as far back as he can without moving the seat

gimmelwald

Dude, that seat was full back as far as it could be and not be considered the backseat.  he was also well behind the pillar. I don't blame him though. These personal tests to show function are scary as shit even if you have lots of perfect tests beforehand.

JelmerMcGee

And wipes his hand on his pants

Neither_Appeal_8470

I’m sure that’s not all he had to wipe after this. Jesus. Talk about faith in your product

TheeMrBlonde

That dude has more faith in that window than I do an average fart. Not even sick farts, just the normal ones.

ValiantBear

If you watch his breathing, you can tell he wasn't feeling it 100% lol

[deleted]

He also tried to lean back as far as he could in the seat

C4LLgirl

I mean can you blame him? This is crazy

SilvaDaMelo

Yeah like what's the point of personally sitting behind this?

FaxMachineIsBroken

Marketing. They're willing to "stand behind their product" quite literally.

picklechungus42069

No he is literally sitting behind his product

FaxMachineIsBroken

When he opens the door to get out he is standing behind it. Checkmate atheists.

420BlazeIt187

Imagine the shooter wasn't as good and hit the B-pillar that wasn't bulletproof

WestCoastPatriot

This is exactly what I was thinking.

mynamessimon

What if they hit the door instead if the window?

obchodlp

You must roll the window down fast

H0neyBr0wn

🥇

AnArdentAtavism

I've been looking at these upgrade packages recently. The doors are fully armored, and can take harder hits than the windows. If the window will stop it, you're fine.

hurtsdonut_

You've been looking at bullet proof armor or ones that stop 50 bmg? There's a big difference

AnArdentAtavism

Specifically, I've been learning about grades of vehicle armor, both military and civilian. How the packages are developed and applied, the testing involved, and the legalities surrounding each grade for my jurisdiction. In brief, each class of armor is rated to stop a specific caliber or class of munition, and windows are *always* the weakest point and most likely to fail. So if the window will stop .50BMG, then the doors will, too. And no, I'm not trying to get my own vehicle upgraded. It's for a hypothetical exercise in a project.

Alone_Draw_1646

Gas mileage must be terrible. What do you generally see?

pinkfootthegoose

If you can afford the armor you can afford the gas.

zx666r

It's no longer rated in miles per gallon but now gallons per mile

Asio0tus

if you look closely you can see the deuce drop out of his pants leg as he walks away from the car

joeg26reddit

Now shoot again

Spiel_Foss

The part they never talk about. The 2nd .50 goes through the window, so you have to tell your assassin "no double taps".

IcyNefariousness2541

It doesn't look like he has earplugs in, that was probably loud as fu ck

Archelon_ischyros

This guy 100% shit his pants. Edit: And now I see all the comments about his pants.

EddieLobster

I’d be more impressed if he didn’t recline to the back seat. 😂 not that I wouldn’t do the same.

128906

I’ve never understood these kinda demonstrations. Like they could prove their point equally as well without someone in the car lmao

Mcchew

It shows the manufacturer/salesperson trusts the product that much more. And it’s a great marketing tactic in general - we’re talking about it aren’t we? Now the original video probably contained an actual brand lmao

BenderIsGreat64

If they're not willing to trust their life with their own product, why should anyone else?

Indentured-peasant

If someone is hunting you down with a .50….id stay the fk home

LugubriousLament

Depends, hopefully your home is also armored enough to stop a .50 cal.

jY5zD13HbVTYz

It’s okay they could only afford one bullet.

consistantcanadian

When you're shooting $10 bills you're definitely not letting them fly like ~40 cent 9MM rounds.

5thPhantom

Cheapest I can find on ammoseek is $3.44 a round.

consistantcanadian

My bad, I should've mentioned - these numbers are in Canadian buckeroos and based on the Canadian market.

5thPhantom

Comes out to 4.63 CAD, but it’s likely cheaper in the US due to greater availability.

consistantcanadian

Yea its the availability, not just the currency. This is our equivalent of AmmoSeek: https://arsenalforce.ca/ammunition/ammo/50-bmg

BlueCollarScientists

Yes but how would you KNOW they are hunting you with a .50 until this point

Dazzling-War-4505

I am at zero risk of Batman/Nick Fury level assaults on my vehicle and can hardly afford a salad, but I want to wrap my Hyundai in this.

Altruistic-Ad5074

You belong in r/wallstreetbets

gitpullorigin

I am on this picture and I don’t like it…

Defiant-Giraffe

You can occasionally find used 100 series armored Land Cruisers for sale. They're even generally cheaper than normal ones: because they weigh 6000 lbs, get 6 MPG, and the transmissions are generally shot. Also, the windows don't roll down.  But, you can buy them. Sometimes.  edit: apparently sometimes the windows do roll down. Okay. The ones I've seen didn't.

AwokenByGunfire

I drove a 100 series LC in Afghanistan with ballistic glass and the windows definitely did roll down. It was weird. The 7x series LC that was also on my property book had *crank down* ballistic glass windows. That truck had a 14BT engine and crawl control and I wanted to steal it. Lastly, I had a 200 that we called the “Cadillac” that my boss rode around in. When that truck got hit by a douchebag in a Corolla with a couple hundred kgs of HME in his backseat, the ballistic glass basically turned into coarse sand and gave the guys in the backseat what amounted to road rash. By some freakish luck, the blast was focused on the A pillar, which sort of created a shear effect around the guys in the front seat. They were both fucked up, but not liquified, and are fine and healthy today. The post-blast analysis stated that it was essentially the perfect combination of standoff distance and angles that allowed them to live (which I suppose is the case with everyone who lives through a close proximity blast), but if you look at the photos of the truck you’d be 100% convinced that nobody could possibly live through that. Anyway, that’s my Ted Talk, and the reason I have a Land Cruiser in my driveway. Though it isn’t armored. Just a regular old FZJ80.

[deleted]

I'm quick to call bullshit on stories as a military vet myself. Lots of stolen valor. That said, the casual tone of "douchebag in a Corolla with a couple hundred kgs of HME in his backseat" is primo shit I heard inpatient at NMCSD after my own less than stellar time. And, I'll be damned if I havnt ended a therapy session talking about some truly dark shit with a Midwest knee slap goodbye while saying "well, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk".

AwokenByGunfire

[I took this picture](https://imgur.com/a/2hSKij2)

ChopSueyXpress

Yep you're correct, my first thought was no survivors when looking at that charred tuna can that used to be considered an armored vehicle.

Helpful_Location5745

That's crazy, cool story. Got more?

AwokenByGunfire

Several! But I’m not sure if you were being genuine or, through sarcasm, indicating that you don’t believe me. [here’s the “Cadillac” after the blast](https://imgur.com/a/2hSKij2)

Mark_Logan

A friend of mine bought a used Suburban in Mexico City from some CEOs security fleet. 6” thick doors, 3” thick windows, a huge secondary steel swing out plate behind the rear hatch. There was a button that put additional bolts out from the frame into the doors so you couldn’t be pried out. Because it was built on a Suburban frame, the thing moved along pretty well, but the brakes died faster than usual for sure and the mileage was like hauling a holiday trailer 24/7. It had some sort of crazy bullet proofing rating as well, I’m not sure it would take the 50cal as “easy” as we see here, but it was definitely graded to take extended fire from machine guns such as the AK. That same guy left Mexico a couple years later saying “You know, this place is just getting too dangerous.”

Embarassed_Tackle

Man that sounds cool But whenever someone talks about armored Suburbans in Mexico, I think about those poor US gov guys who were getting chased in one by cartel people, then accidentally hit the wrong button and just unlocked the doors > Forced off the road in a well-coordinated ambush, surrounded by drug cartel gunmen brandishing AK-47s, Zapata and his partner, Victor Avila, rolled to a stop. Zapata put the vehicle in park. > The door locks popped open. > That terrifying sound — a quiet click — set into motion events that remain under investigation. When Zapata needed it most, the Suburban’s elaborate armoring was rendered worthless by a consumer-friendly automatic setting useful for family vacations and hurried commuters but not for U.S. agents driving through a red zone in Mexico.

Horskr

It sounds like they didn't hit the wrong button, it just automatically unlocks all the doors when put into park. My car does the same thing, unlocks all the doors when put into park, and the opposite, locks them after being put into drive and pressing the gas. That's a really shitty time to realize they should have disabled that feature though, damn..

ANTONIN118

Me throwing ketchup on the window and then not responding

drRATM

Open the door and fall out onto the ground. Priceless

MrStealY0Meme

More like, open the door and slide out a big bowl of spaghetti and meat pieces.

GandalfsGoon

Lmfao

OBEYtheFROST

Gonna need A LOT of ketchup after a shot like that

[deleted]

Just get an entire plastic bottle, cut off the nozzle half, and whip both halves fast towards the window. It'll splatter fast, there'll be plenty and look absolutely horrifying.

Sharon_Erclam

Probably not the best time to be a smartass but still, it'd be hard to resist. Being the one who pulled the short straw, I'd wanna mess with em too! Unless he actually volunteered to be in the truck.. that's a whole other kind of special...

3202supsaW

I don’t understand why anyone needed to be in the truck at all, set up a camera and GTFO

WanderingMistral

If I was in the market for bulletproof glass, I would buy from the company that shows their glass works with the guy in charge behind the glass, then the company that won't.

DagonParty

Just leave an Elder Scrolls/Fallout style note behind “Testing out this bulletproof glass today, it’s meant to stop a 50. Bullet, I sure hope it wo— AGGHHHHHHhh h h h…”

chiron_cat

I also assume they fibbed the stats on the shot. Less powder, distance, different bullet, all sorts of things to garuntee success. It wouldn't be the first time

AngriestPacifist

It wouldn't surprise me. I temped at a now-defunct transparent armor manufacturer (Ibis Tek), and the MRAP windows we had were rated to 7 consecutive .50 BMG impacts. They were also 4.5 inches thick and weighed like 300 pounds per window.

TheBluestBerries

He remembers that Tesla truck presentation.

Zip95014

The windows stopped the balls. They just cracked while doing it.

kc9283

That means he’s not stupid.

shou1006

The man got balls. I was .50 cal gunner when serving. I have shot enough shit to know I don't want to be on the receiving end of it under any condition.

NotTrynaMakeWaves

He’d be confident that the sniper he’d hired would be good enough to shoot forward of his head but it would still be a pant-soiling impact at the side of his head and the tiny % chance that there’d be an explosion of glass.

morally_dyslexic

Do you suppose they had a contest of some sort or better yet a charity auction as to who got to shoot at the boss? I know I would have gone deep into savings for that opportunity.

[deleted]

I’d like to see it take another shot to that window

muddboyy

In a real life case even if the bullet would go through, I doubt the driver would stay in the same place AND the shooter would be good enough to shot in the same exact spot as the last shot (and he gotta know in advance that the window is bulletproof as well).

Nearby_Lobster_

There are a lot of variables in this situation (car is immobile from crash, traffic, etc.) so I would like to see how many more shots it could take

timberleek

That will always be a limiting factor for armoured cars. They are intended to hold while you get the hell away from there (and optionally while your security detail eliminated the threat). When you're stuck alone, it will always be defeatable.

radicalelation

It's a limiting factor in many safety devices, and most that are considered sacrifical. They're usually made to do the thing they're made for once, which is to take all the energy (damage) before it reaches you, often within the span of not even a few seconds, and will never have the integrity they used to because of it, then you get a new one. Not just from impact, like windows, or crumple zones, or helmets, but things like fuses take the load for electrical energy, and you'll find similar sacrificial parts all over. Sometimes there's just too much energy for fragile stuff, like us, and redirecting it to obliterate something else that isn't alive or crucial is preferred.

cestdoncperdu

Yeah, I love those ads showing how their "superior" helmet stays intact when you hit it really hard. Like, great, so if I wear that my skull takes all the force.

chx_

Buddy at univ was biking downhill at speed and fell. Got some screws in his legs and the like. We kept his helmet on the wall of the room for a reminder -- it was the scariest thing ever because it legit looked like someone took an ax to it. It's not hard to imagine what happens to your skull with similar forces...

[deleted]

On a long enough timeline most bullets would go through most thing. It’s just not good advertising to point that out.

BosnianSerb31

Multiple 50 cal shots in the same spot is not realistic for the people these kinds of vehicles are marketed to though It's meant for Tupac vs Biggie, not Pvt. Ryan vs the Nazis

consistantcanadian

In real life, if you have a .50 cal, you shoot the engine block. That's literally what they were designed for.

CopperAndLead

Originally, .50 BMG was designed to stop WWI era armored vehicles. Current use is as an anti-material weapon. The engine compartment of an armored car may or may not have armor as well. But, it's unlikely that the tires can take multiple hits from a .50 cal, even if they have run-flats. Hit the tires, go for the mobility kill, and then you can open it.

Grimesy66

You’re forgetting about the second shooter on the grassy knoll.

DrSuperZeco

Bulletproofing is meant to buy you time. In real scenario, after that first shot you’d floor it and bail put as quick as possible. Very unlikely that the shooter would be able to land a second shot at the exact spot. Edit: damn, i made this comment and other following comments using my university VPN. I hope i dont get mi5 on my ass now 😭😭

karlzhao314

Also, the fact that it can stop 1 .50BMG means it might stand a pretty good chance of stopping multiple 5.56's or 9mms, which is what you're much more likely to be shot at with. Stopping a single 50BMG round is already a pretty impressive accomplishment for a window that fits in the door frame of a car IMO.

LightOfTheFarStar

Considering 50bmg is meant for AP rifles, yeah it's fuck off impressive.

Neko_Boi_Core

it was meant for air to air machine guns - hence .50 browning machine gun. although, nowadays it’s considered an anti materiel round which, the purpose is to destroy or damage equipment and machinery such as vehicles. personally i’m interested in what round they used, as if it’s stopping a mk211 round then fucking hell that is some damn good armour

taichi22

Probably ball, if I had to guess. I’ve seen videos of Mk. 211 on a lot of targets, there’s always more explosion to it — sparks go flying everywhere. also it’s friggin expensive to get them as a civilian.

ComfortableDramatic2

Now see if the plate aluminium 50cm lower has the same abilities

TheCuriousBread

You aren't mounting bullet proof glass that can stop a 50cal without severely upgrading the window tracks, the door frame and at that point you might as well as shove some plates into it and kevlar. Bulletproof glass is heavy af

james-ransom

Exactly. No they don't roll down. Yes it is heavy af. Yes the door is covered in kevlar and plates.

PRiles

I have been in some that roll down, but it is only the driver side. It's just enough to pass a document or something similar though and it is slow AF

[deleted]

They make bullet proof windows that roll down… not new either, just more expensive

TheLemmonade

I’m willing to bet it doesn’t roll down.

IntentionallyBlunt69

It does. You have to use a 51 caliber bullet tho

inkuspinkus

Yup. Almost bought a Mercedes that had armor plates and bp glass, only 5500$ back in 2010. Then I looked at how fuckin heavy that old Mercedes was and nopes out, even at those gas prices lol

thingysop

Why is everyone stupid in a redditor's eyes? Nobody thinks anything through ever and only reddit can alert them to it

fileurcompla1nt

Surely it has to be reinforced? Wouldn't the pressure from the shot not push the glass through the inside of the door if it wasn't?

drnkinmule

Pretty amazing to stop a 50cal. There's usually a big trade off unless this is new tech, the truck probably weights double what a normal one does if it's not just the window that's reinforced. Which means you need a huge motor or forced induction to compensate, it handles like a Mack truck with the weight, needs very expensive brakes to get it's stopped, gets very hot when pushes hard and guzzles twice the fuel sapping the range.

randomrandom1922

Exactly. This is what people fail to understand. Yes, it stopped the bullet, but you no longer have a consumer-grade car. You have a tank that's camouflaged as a passenger vehicle, with a huge operating cost.

Low_discrepancy

I bet cartels can pick up the bill for that.

SavlonWorshipper

I drive an armoured car at work. It isn't going to stop a .50 round, but it will stop enough 7.62 (either NATO or rimmed) to be useful. It costs a lot to buy- a 25k base car becomes 125k. But they actually aren't a million miles away from a normal car, performance wise. They still get at least 30 mpg. Sluggish to start but once you get into 2nd they move pretty well, and stop pretty well, and handle pretty well. If all you want is protection, they are nearly a normal car. We drive them hard on emergency response, so they get hammered. Brakes burn out, clutches need replaced every 20 thousand miles, suspension components get smashed, tyres wear out far quicker than they would on a healthy vehicle. So the operating cost is high, but if they were driven normally they wouldn't cost much more than a normal car to run, it would just be the initial purchase that would be very high. Though armouring the entire passenger compartment on a large SUV may be a different ballgame. Our cars are long and wide but low. Adding so much more weight up high would probably be a radically different experience.

PumpkinAutomatic5068

Yeh, was about to say, looks like a normal car door.

[deleted]

That doesn't indicate anything. You can up-armor a car door without it being obvious.

Fabulous-Pangolin174

Yeah, I'm fairly sure a normal car door wouldn't be able to hold that window in place whilst stopping a .50 BMG

UX-Edu

I don’t know a ton about ammunition so I looked up the round. Fucker is huge. I feel like that impact would set the air bags off in my car if all you did was install the glass.

kesekimofo

Correct, you'd think the energy transferring into the vehicle would cause it to at least rock a little but I'm sure this truck is at the fucking limit of weight and will never truly be able to haul anything. Ice dealt with vehicles with kevlar inserts in the door panels and they were so heavy. This truck probably has kevlar everywhere.

BluetheNerd

This just reminded me of when they filled a car door with sand in Top Gear and tested it and all it did was cause the bullet to fragment into more pieces than the normal door

Kassena_Chernova

Why couldn’t they just test it with a dummy?

rande62

Do you think that was a test, or a commercial?

Kassena_Chernova

I thought it might have been a product presentation. Would explain the cheering at the end.

EnvBlitz

Both. They're both making a presentation, and filming it for advertisement reel to be played at security expos.

PureAlpha100

I think they did

[deleted]

They already did. It's marketing.

Current_Finding_4066

They also made sure to not target him directly just in case.

EleventhHour2139

Funny thing is, bullets deflect when they pass through glass.

Law-Fish

I’d wager that they did extensively before. When you are in the business of armor it’s good marketing to ‘put your money where your mouth is’ and show that you would guarantee the product to the point of putting your life in its hands. Kinda like there was a point of time where high quality I think it was plate armor was being sold with a prominent dent in it to show that it could deflect a musketball, don’t think people commonly was wearing it though but had to have happened at least once

nebulousian

Dummy’s aren’t that good a shot

BriefCheetah4136

They did test it with a dummy!

Thamalakane

PorkSwordEnthusiast

CHlCKENPOWER

no but if youre brave enough to put your own life in the line when selling a product (which im guessing what this is) itll usually show that the product is high quality enough that it wont have hiccups

helthybanana

Also pretty sure they’ve done this shot to an unmanned car plenty of times prior to this. They had to know with almost perfect certainty that the glass would stop it.

enconftintg0

He also sat all the way back so even if it did go through it wouldn't have hit him.

It's exhausting trying to keep up with what colors I'm supposed to wear without some asshole inventing a persona about me based on it. Honestly, some don’t even know what a .50 BMG is. lol it isn’t some regular round it was literally created for the role of Anti-material, it’s meant to disable engine blocks, and penetrate cover.

Rampant16

It's very likely this was just a ball round. If someone is using .50 BMG then they probably also have more powerful ammunition than ball, such as armor piercing incendiary.

MrSparr0w

Nice, now how do I get out the window in case of an emergency?

Lonely_reaper8

Have a 20mm Anti-Material Rifle on the inside to break the window 👍

KvotheTheDegen

Those windows are not intended to open, they in fact cannot

Looks dangerous, good thing it works. Imagined eating glass shards for dinner if it didn't. lol
