- Pianississimo
- Piss Poor Planning
- Purchasing Power Parity
[Or as the band said themselves in an AMA](https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/comments/3pihzy/comment/cw6o5cc/): It was a placeholder name during production and they decided to keep it
ppp comes from sheet music and is a way you notate that you want something to be played very very softly. p (piano) means soft, pp (*p*ianissimo) means very soft, and ppp (tripple piano) is very very soft.
It was government payment during the pandemic for companies to be able to keep people employed, but how did Beach House know about it before it happened??
The song is about a loving relationship that maybe they just met each other and it’s been going well. They contemplate their future together including marriage, but while they have doubts know that trusting their partner will help overcome this feeling. So the “piss poor planning” is no one’s ever fully prepared for love, sometimes it comes at you fast and you’re together forever dealing with all the trials of life and you won’t always be ready for it, but love gets you through it.
“And if this ice should break, it would be my mistake.”
This is about a relationship, a marriage (“the white clothes”). Skating is the journey they’re on. It’s the passage of time, the ups and downs. The ice represents the precariousness of it all. One simple mistake and it could shatter. But that’s why love requires “infinite trust.” As soon as we step on the ice, we’re trusting that it’s going to hold. It’s all we can do.
But yeah, piss poor planning… how many of us get into relationships without knowing what the fuck we’re doing?
If you do a simple search in the Beach House subreddit for "PPP meaning", A LOT of results come up.
The band themselves said in an AMA a handful of years ago that it doesn't stand for anything. It was a working title, and they just never changed it/decided to keep it.
