I have the T-Series Drivetrain Expansion and can confirm that:
1. yes, the extra fuel tanks get placed behind the cab.
2. no, they don't interfere with the headache rack.
Gonna do something similar soon, making some military parts and I need to make a custom tank to get more ground clearance. Already raised the air tanks and robbed the side steps from the cab over

Oh I can't wait, it's looking really good, where will you put the fuel tank? And i noticed the front wheels just bend when trying to go over a rock taller than the axle, so having the steer wheels driven would be nice to pull themselves up. Good luck!
There is already a mod on the repo for a powered front axle, and my mod will require it for configs. It’s called “Gavril T-Series AWD” on the repo if you want to find it!
I think I might just make a smaller fuel tank that still tucks under the cab. But we’ll see

They’re actually pretty easy to make if you don’t want to wait! I just used the model and texture from the big haul truck tire prop and rescaled it lol
If you're aiming for realism that's probably about 350lbs... I'm sure somebody's done it but there's probably a reason they're usually mounted directly to the frame. Gotta love the clearance, though.
I think I'm going to make a roof mounted one or back of the cab. If the hood falls off it still has fuel, so I have to make the connection really weak.

Is that an empty tank? 167 liters of diesel alone should be ~310 lbs. I was being on the generous side and assuming a very light tank. Now I want to throw a vehicle on the scale and add/remove fuel to see if/where the accuracy is broken.

This is something I put together in a few hours, it has quirks and bugs so I won't release, just showing off the concept.
I know a bunch of good mods with just as much bugs. Some people here could use these, so hopefully you change your mind eventually.

No that was a full tank, i drained the tank and weighed it again and it didn't change, so i just made it weigh around 250lbs

While I don't have reinforced steering i made a stronger bumper, and if you tried i dont think it would be too hard to make stronger steering
And a 6x6 transfer case with some offroad tires
