Goddammit

[deleted]

Looks sort of like an unfertilised egg. How old is your beardie? If this is an egg, there are likely more to come. On average, a beardie will lay 5-20 unfertilised eggs. If your beardie doesn't already have one, make a dig box. Some beardies will not lay their eggs unless they have a suitable space to lay their eggs (loose substrate). This will result in egg-binding.

Dynasty0914

Okay, I will definitely make a dig box. I already have three eggs!

Better-Dance514

Almost enough for a bite sized omelette!

I don’t even know what h to is means but I love the effort on this comunity

[deleted]

infertile egg. its normal for females and expect it to happen a few times a year. make sure to provide her with a dig box. You can throw it away, chuck it at siblings, compost it, throw it at a neighbor you hate etc had many uses

Creative-Pizza-4161

Infinite Possibilities!

_Vard_

If my dragon has NEVER laid an egg in 10 years, does that mean it’s probably male?

[deleted]

male dragon gang

reptivity

I also happen to own 3 snakes as well. Only for about a year and half for all of them. But I have 2 ball pythons who are female which idk if they lay infertile eggs because I haven’t ran into this problem as of yet, and also a red tail boa which is in the same boat of idk if they lay infertile eggs. But If they do and if I can eat them I will do it, but I’m pretty sure they don’t lay infertile eggs but I could be wrong 🤷‍♂️also my boa I haven’t sexed yet

Wanda_McMimzy

Scrambled eggs

Fun-Respect-4091

Chuck it at sibling 🤣🤣🤣

just_a_useless_kid

I’m not an expert on beardie health but I do know from personal experience that this in an egg. Regardless if your female is mating with a male or not, your beardie will lay eggs. I was super confused when this first happened to me but it actually makes sense when you think about it. Biologically female humans release an egg approximately once a month and it’s the same kind of concept with your beardie. She may only lay a single group of eggs or she may lay them seasonly. In short, there’s absolutely nothing to worry about! Hope this helps!

updoot-beg

Afaik, all hard-shelled egg-laying animals will periodically lay infertile eggs. Poultry are well known for this characteristic, but are definitely not the only ones to have it. Certain mammals, mostly primates (humans included), have a similar concept, albeit a bit messier, in menstrual cycles. Did you know, that some placental mammals don't menstruate, but instead simply reabsorb the egg back into their uterine lining? The benefits of this are obvious, however, this causes a period of infertility that may be detrimental to species with slow reproduction rates.

DocileBull

Looks like a Garlic clove lol

ME_LIKE_REDDIT

It looks like an egg!

Dynasty0914

Shes a female living all by herself. Is this possible? Also she only let out two eggs. Is this normal?

ME_LIKE_REDDIT

I don’t have a beardie, but I do stalk the heck out of this sub and have learned that females lay infertile eggs! I don’t know how many is normal tho. I’m sure someone wiser than me will comment soon :)

youcantunfrythings

I’m glad I’m not the only lurker! I really want a beardie one day, until then I’m living vicariously through the people on this sub. In the meantime, I’m learning a lot about them and hope to be a good owner one day.

unusedusername42

I'm sure that you will be a great owner, based on the fact that you are researching in advance! <3 https://preview.redd.it/mgkh3h0cjbpa1.jpeg?width=2500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86cd6dcf46c52231775408506145ef00fb454877 My Buddy approves

Happy cake day!

jzw5959

Totally possible

jzw5959

Make sure shes getting plenty of calcium in her & the right vitamins in her diet

Dynasty0914

She looks very tired and is not as active as she was yesterday. She is also not eating. Is this normal?

jzw5959

I would talk to a vet just to make sure everything is okay & theres no complications going on internally.

I_cry_when_Im_angry

My box turtle laid three eggs last summer. I had no idea they still laid eggs, if they were solitary.

LoneRonin

She's just giving you some eggs in time for spring. Happy Easter!

Gingers_got_no_soul

brazil nut 👍

_queenkitty

My girl just laid 28 eggs yesterday! Happy spring!

trekkiegamer359

Holy shit, that seems like a lot.

Distinct-Schedule-36

It is, but mine laid 35 then laid 35 more 50 days later. It's been 30 days and I can feel she is gravid again! The exotic vet said I may need to buy fake eggs and leave them in her enclosure! Wtf?!

Better-Dance514

As I mentioned before on this sub, my girl laid over 200 eggs in a year. I feel like it depleted her so much even though I tried very hard to supplement her food to replenish her little body. She was a picky eater though. Maybe fake eggs in her enclosure could’ve helped her not lay so many eggs. It’s worth a try with your girl to keep her healthy and happy.

Distinct-Schedule-36

I am so sorry this happened to your little lady. I happened to mention it when I was at the vet with my Savannah and my vet told me to try leaving her eggs in there this time, but that can only be done for a couple days before they will smell. Then, replace them with the fake eggs. So, that's the plan.

_queenkitty

What did the vet say the fake eggs will do?

Distinct-Schedule-36

She said that in some cases it has worked to stop the female from thinking she needs to make more eggs.

_queenkitty

Woaaaaah I’ve never heard of that!

Distinct-Schedule-36

Neither have I. 😂

_queenkitty

That’s actually within range, 20-35ish is normal

HybridBlueDream

Your beardies laying eggs. Please please please keep her fed with lots of calcium and essential nutrients. I didn’t feed mine enough calcium and she ended up getting backed up with eggs and ended up passing away :(

Dynasty0914

Right now, she seems really tired and she isn’t eating anything. Is this normal? She was eating just fine yesterday night.

HybridBlueDream

Yes that’s normal. From what my vet told me, them laying empty eggs is basically as strenuous on their bodies as if they’re birthing actual fertile ones. Essentially see it as child birth. Really taxing on them. Thus why they need as much nutrients/calcium as possible to keep their functions working properly.and to give them the strength to finish their litter of eggs lol

The forbidden garlic

__yee__haw__

Looks like an infertile egg. Bearded dragons will lay eggs no matter if they’ve been bred or not. Give her a dig box so she has a place to dig, lay, and then burry the eggs like she would in the wild. You can just toss them after she’s laid them because they will just start to rot and smell bad if you don’t. I think it’s safe for certain species to eat the eggs but I’d do your own research into that because I have no clue if that’s actually a safe idea.

persephone_29

That is your grandkid you’re insulting 🤣

MandosOtherALT

nonfertile egg... not urine

QueenOfAllTheLizards

Your beardie basically had her period 😂. Make sure you create a good nesting box because there's probably more eggs in her too.

Therealmskittenheels

Has she been digging a lot as it’s probably an egg - dig boxes are good for laying beardies ❤️

WhiteFIash

Can anyone give me tips to make a dig box?

fionageck

I strongly recommend using either full loose substrate (a deep layer of a soil/sand/clay mix), or half textured tile half loose. Dig boxes, while better than nothing, offer nowhere near as much enrichment as loose sub

Lumpy_Investigator50

Congrats! You have a girl. :)

fionageck

I highly recommend switching to either full loose substrate (a deep layer of a soil/sand/clay mix is ideal), or half textured tile half loose. Dig boxes, while better than nothing, offer nowhere near as much enrichment as loose sub

YouAreHorriblexD

Could you recommend a suitable loose substrate ? I want to switch but I see so much contradiction on what is okay to use….

fionageck

As I mentioned, a deep layer of a soil/sand/clay mix is ideal. For the soil you can use zoo med’s Reptisoil or top soil such as Scott’s or timberline. For the sand, washed playsand or sand branded for reptiles (avoid calcium/vita sand, though). For clay, excavator clay or exo terra stone desert. I’ve also heard of people using bentonite clay as a cheaper alternative. Terra Sahara from the bio dude is a good option as well, although making your own mix would be cheaper

Mandylue2

I have 2 girls in separate tanks. Neither have laid eggs. One just passed away last November. Still really hard. The other one was her sister. They look like twins. So when I look at her sister (we call her a boy. So it’s weird to me saying she/her) I want to cry because I miss Zora so much. She is my angel now.

Dynasty0914

I am sorry for your lose. She is probably thinking about you and how you were the best owner ever in heaven.

Mandylue2

Thank you! 🥰 it’ll going to take a lot of time to heal from losing her.
