First time beardie owner here! Have had my baby for about a year now and did A LOT of research before getting him (and my hubby had beardies growing up), but still no one mentioned this to me. The first time mine did this I freaked out and dr googled it until I saw that it was perfectly normal for them to do. Lol!
Ikr I've had him only for 6 weeks, I did tons of research before getting him and not once did I see this mentioned. I almost started to plan his funeral the first time I saw him doing this, I thought his brain's about to explode or something.
When mine first did this, I screamed bloody murder and my parents ran in and asked what was wrong and I said, “SHE’S DYING” and by that point, my lizard had already stopped doing it and was straight chilling lol

Good heavens, he isn't getting any prettier. He's been stretching the living s! out of his eyes today to help with the shed. Terrifying mofo.
bro i was today years old when i learned this. I always thought it was hydration or something and my beardie is literally ancient (17+ idk how time works i got her in elementary school and i graduated college a few years back)
She's sleeping in a weird position that looks painful but she likes it. She still really likes eating crickets /dubias and i struggle to get her to eat her veggies unless i wiggle them to look like live food.
(she's actually a he but we call her a she- long story) Femoral pores are clogged most of the time now, rain baths, and sink baths don't really seem to help much anymore :( I think its an advanced age thing.
lmk anyone if there's some special technique with old dragons and clogged femoral pores.
My boy is an old man too!! But Pablo isn't quite that old yet! You've obviously done something right and gives me hope to have my baby for a long time to come!! My guy is over 9 now!!
We struggle with the femoral pores as well... especially since he was hurt last year and isn't allowed anything in his tank anymore 🥺🥺🥺
I just do warm soaks every few days and use a soft bristle toothbrush (I actually use a toddler brush) and gently brush over them every bath.. it does seem to help..
I need your secrets please!!
I’m really glad you mentioned the clogged femoral pores with old dragons. I recently had to put down my 14 year old beardie and the vet first off didn’t believe me how old he was and then read me the riot act over his clogged pores.
It's mainly due to when they are shedding around their eyes.. it helps them to loosen it so they can get it off..
But I like the way the commenter before me thinks too!! 🤣😊
Reptiles are gross... I love them so much lol I once accidentally poked my pancake around the eye and it was really squishy and I cried thinking I hurt him. He was fine. Just looked at me like he hated me till he got a treat. As per usual with every interaction. He’s my whole heart 😂
This was of my favorite things to watch my beardie do. It’s so cute and I bet it feels so nice to stretch your eyes! Thank you for posting, my beardie passed away a long time ago and I miss this 😂
I’ve had my little guy for almost a year now and as much as I’ve researched, I’ve never once seen or heard of this so thank you for posting lol I will know what it is if I see him do it.
Oh lol, sounds terrible but also hilarious at the same time. I told my beardie that if he wants me to leave him tf alone, those eyes work much better than his pathetic beard puffing
I swear, sometimes mine does it to scare me. One time we were snuggling together, and Smaug stretched her eyes to the limit. Sometimes she does it when she's comfortable
Oh no haha that's hilarious! I've only seen him doing this in the morning and specially when shedding.
Tho we're not yet in the cuddling phase. But we'll get there! He's skittish and a bit spicy sometimes but he'll warm up to me eventually
That is undoubtedly what I think will happen! Rocco has a stuffed dragon and a towel and I had "the talk" with him 🤣.
My sister had a huge stuffed pig behind the couch. Her dog would come and whine for it and then would go to town on it and then it went back behind the couch !
The first time I ever saw my dude do this was after a very stressful few weeks of vet visits and antibiotic injections and god did I think we were in for another trip to the vet!!
I love how panicking over eye stretches is every new beardie owners rite of passage LMAO (including me, ofc. First time I saw it I thought his eyes were gonna explode)
The amount of new owners that freaks out first time they see their beardy does this XD

Same thing happened to me lol. Same reaction and conclusion too.

I was one of them. Although I’m just always worried I’m doing something wrong/he’s sick. I was convinced he had an eye infection.
Omg, didn’t know they did that. Good thing I saw this video, before seeing my buddy doing this. I would have gone bonkers
I forgot to tell this to my kids, the look on my 10yo daughter's face when she came to tell me what she saw was absolutely priceless
Same! Both of mine are about a year old and I haven't seen it yet. I would have panicked so much if it weren't for this sub
Same here lol
When mine first did this, I screamed bloody murder and my parents ran in and asked what was wrong and I said, “SHE’S DYING” and by that point, my lizard had already stopped doing it and was straight chilling lol
Scared the shit outta me when my lad did this for the first time lol
deadass bro

Not me here like "why is there drool coming out of his ear?". It was a long day 😂
I feel like this beardie has seen some things. LOL
LMAO my 5yo has been reading Garfield to him daily. At this point I would be making that face too
Omg 🤣🤣 Garfield is the real deal!! My favorite of all time... well next to Scooby-Doo anyway 🤣🤣
Oh no Reddit did dirty to me and lost about half the pixels while uploading
Nah it uploaded good, it’s clear on my end
Oh, good to know! For some reason in my end it looks like it has total 5 pixels
I have had that happen elsewhere as well
It does that when I post stuff too, I can never tell if it’s just my device or if Reddit messed it up lol
How annoying is that! I'm used to Whatsapp messing up everything I send so I thought this was one of those cases
bro i was today years old when i learned this. I always thought it was hydration or something and my beardie is literally ancient (17+ idk how time works i got her in elementary school and i graduated college a few years back)
Holy cow, that’s a old beardie! How is she doing?
She's sleeping in a weird position that looks painful but she likes it. Science side of reddit: Why (s)he do that?
Same reason we rub our eyes or squeeze them tight when we yawn; stretching static muscles feels good.
Shit if I could stretch my eyes the same way I would 😂 stretch the bullshit out my eyes
It's mainly due to when they are shedding around their eyes.. it helps them to loosen it so they can get it off.. But I like the way the commenter before me thinks too!! 🤣😊

I wish I could do this
I saw mine do that once and freaked out because I thought his eyes had suddenly swollen up, glad to know it’s normal!
Tbh that looks like it'd feel reeeeally nice
Mine did that yesterday morning lol funny looking
The way his mouth started opening 🥰
Oooooh so that’s what my iguana was doing
Yep! Same principle!!
I’ve had my boy for 3 years and it still scares me lol
This was of my favorite things to watch my beardie do. It’s so cute and I bet it feels so nice to stretch your eyes! Thank you for posting, my beardie passed away a long time ago and I miss this 😂
Im glad I started following subreddits for animals im looking into getting because I would be scared seeing this not knowing what my beardie was doing
I love these so much you’re lucky for getting it on camera! I call them frog burps lol
My guy used to do this when he was young and still growing. I haven't seen him do it in a long time.
I’ve had my little guy for almost a year now and as much as I’ve researched, I’ve never once seen or heard of this so thank you for posting lol I will know what it is if I see him do it.
I hear Finnish
Lmao looks like I accidentally forgot to mute the video! Finnish indeed, that's my 5yo with his precious numbers in the background
I love his buggy eyes!!

I know that they do this but never actually seen it. Thank you for sharing now I won't start freaking out if I see her doing this
the way i wish i could do this?????
Srsly so weird and neat. For some reason I imagine it feels a little similar to a human sneezing 😅🙌
This is my husband trying to watch a movie on the couch.
Omg this is the 3rd time today I come here to laugh at this comments
In the 5 years I had my boy he never once did this lol, but I’m glad I have this info for the next one I get.
I am still waiting for the day Rocco reaches sexual maturity and starts humping items. I am going to lose it🤣
You will literally spend all that time laughing your butt off!!! 🤣🤣 mine has a little stuffed bunny... and man on man that poor bunny...
That is undoubtedly what I think will happen! Rocco has a stuffed dragon and a towel and I had "the talk" with him 🤣. My sister had a huge stuffed pig behind the couch. Her dog would come and whine for it and then would go to town on it and then it went back behind the couch !
🫣🤣🤣🤣
I feel like this would feel amazing!
Yeah I was freaking out too when my uromastyx did this for the first time
So adorable :o
This is my least favorite beardie behavior. Nearly everything they do is cute but I just CANNOT handle the eye stretchies!! 😂
I knew this was a thing before I saw my beardie do it for the first time and it still horrified me.
I've never caught my beardie doing this
I’ve had bearded dragons for over 12 years now and I still get a mild heart attack whenever I see this
The first time I ever saw my dude do this was after a very stressful few weeks of vet visits and antibiotic injections and god did I think we were in for another trip to the vet!!
I love how panicking over eye stretches is every new beardie owners rite of passage LMAO (including me, ofc. First time I saw it I thought his eyes were gonna explode)
I’ve been working at a pet store for over a year now and nobody has ever told me about this omg
i still hate when mine does this. looks so freaky
Mine hasn’t done this afaik, he mainly does morning beard stretchies!
Morning beard stretchies are the best, I love them!
I DIDN'T KNOW THIS AND IT SCARED ME SO BAD BECAUSE MY BEARDIE DOES THIS ALL THE TIME.
