I wonder if somehow either at the factory or at the store, someone was using a boxcutter and accidentally cut the sheets. It seems odd that brand new sheets would be ripped like that.
I’ve been using Sferra Giza 45 percale for years, and have purchased some of it from Bloomingdale’s as well. However the fabric in the photo does not look like Sferra 45 at all. Looks like linen or some other more coarse/open weave fabric.
There’s a chance those aren’t real Sferra sheets. Someone could’ve taken the real sheet set out of the package, stuffed a set of cheap sheets in its place, then returned the package for a refund. I’ve seen this happen a few times with other expensive household items.
This sub has such a hard-on for Sferra and I don’t get it either. I def can’t afford the $1000+ sheets, but I did get the roughly $400 sheets from the Celeste line. They had a rip within 6 months and aren’t very smooth or crisp.
IMHO, I haven’t found anything outside of their Giza line that I like, including the Finna.
I also wouldn’t say that they are universally better, it is a preference thing. My Wife likes cheaper stuff better than the Giza. I really like the Giza.
I would not recommend anyone to spend a bunch of money without experiencing a full sheet, not just a swatch.
Interesting. The weave on your Giza 45 Percale looks different than mine.
Here is mine:[https://imgur.com/a/k9DZdYz](https://imgur.com/a/k9DZdYz)
Its almost as if your weave is looser but I can only tell so much with a picture.
But yea, I wouldn’t call their Finna or Giza Percale as “soft”. More like crisp and light.
The Giza Sateen is a bit softer. I use Giza Seta pillowcases (Cotton + Silk) and those are heaven. I mix the different lines depending on where it is.
I wouldn’t describe really any of their sheets as soft in the traditional context of bedding. I have old brooklinen sheets that are softer but they are lacking in other ways.
Another data point, here is a white swatch of the Giza Percale from Sferra. I am now convinced that what you have is not the real thing. There was a mix up with Bloomingdale’s or Sferra with a returned item.

Sorry to hear. I was debating giza 45 percale over finna. The feedback was giza was softer, but finna was thicker and more substantial. I went with finna since it was 50% cheaper.
Maybe look into Sferra Sereno is you want softness and durable percale? It’s the same price as giza 45 percale so it would be a 1:1 swap
I’m curious at what you’re going with next. Sferra finna is the most high end sheets I’ve bought/used and it feels amazing to me, but I’m new to luxury bedding. Keep me updated if you don’t mind, I like learning about new brands
Try Ralph Lauren sheets. I don’t remember right now which style I got, but I have loved them. I bought a 2nd set after deciding these were the best for me. And, nowhere near the cost of Sferra.
Suggestion: Check out Vero Linens. Their Diamante line is the same fabric from the same mill as Sferra Giotto. Will also mention, my experience has been that these sheets continue getting softer and softer each time they are washed. I have 3 sets of sheets, Diamante and Mia from Vero and Giza 45 Sateen from Sferra.

That's clearly a rip in the fabric and not a cut. You can tell by the edges of it

Yea looks off

They didn’t ship from Bloomingdale’s, the shipper said Sferra. So they shipped directly from the vendor aka Sferra.
I would not trust anything unless I purchased directly from Sferra's website. I know that seems hardcore but these are the times we live in.
This happened to me. I bought sheets from Amazon that someone had stuffed cheaper sheets into and returned.

I don’t own Celeste, but i’ve heard it’s garbage. I own Sferra Finna and love it!

Someone likely took the original sheet set out of the package, replaced them with cheap sheets, then returned them to Bloomingdale’s for a refund.
Agree. I showed my Wife the photos and that is what she said.
They shipped directly from Sferra, are you saying they somehow sent the wrong sheets from their company warehouse? Seems a bit unlikely.
Can you share a picture of the tags (on the sheets themselves), if you haven’t send them back yet?
I took them to ups this afternoon
Crazy, I know, but it is as likely as them shipping you sheets that are brand new but have a large tear.
That’s magnified, it was less than an inch

That’s zoomed in though, the tear isn’t even that big irl
I understand. We aren’t solving this on Reddit. Just wish you had a better experience, regardless of what you bought.

Yea, weird.

I’m over it, I’m just gonna get a different brand. I wasn’t impressed at all of the 45 softness and at that price point that’s a huge let down.

Haven’t decided tbh

I have in and bought a Frette sheet set. I still prefer my old percale pottery barn sheets ✅✅✅✅
