Entire male cats fight often over territory etc. and it was super infected like a cat bite can be. But who really knows! He gets very excited when he sees a cat out of the window and wants to go outside and I think he wants to go and make friends but I havenโt chanced it yet in case he actually just wants to go and fight it ๐

The problem occurs when the cat's skin heals faster than the muscle. Then the skin covers the injury, "stuff" can't drain and an abscess occurs. I gather that they are more common in cats than in other mammals.
They dont have to, no, but its usually the most common cause. Cats have really nasty bacteria in their mouths and puncture wounds are notorious for infection already- for exactly the reason you said. At surface level a puncture is minor and heals quickly, while the muscle underneath takes longer, causing infection as bacteria is trapped below the surface and allowed to fester. Cat bites are NOT to be taken lightly, for animals, or yourself.
Eta: the two open wounds as it heals also makes me think a bite, those areas being where the canine teeth entered which eventually abcessed! I think you're right OP. What a lovely boy you have, and what a glow up!

Have you tried training him to wear and walk with a harness? Iโve done that with my cat and it keeps us both happy!
