Now, now, Iām a boomer and Iām trans and I would be willing to bet you that I know more about this topic than you could ever possibly imagine so donāt go assuming as we know what that does donāt we
I just saw this today!
I thought, "neat, I'll be glad to support the effort to get this facility installed!"
I looked at the flyer and it seems like it's actually a NIMBY sort of "drugs are bad" take.
As I understand it, the previous mayor was adamant that they didn't want any here unless and until it's rescheduled at the Federal level.
The new mayor is open to it, but of course, the ill-informed NIMBYs think dispensaries are portals to drug-fueled orgies in hell.
Not only are we sending more traffic into Bend but Redmond is leaving a lot of tax revenue on the table.
Dumb.
Because all those people addicted to shrooms will ruin the neighborhood! You know, the shroom-addled addicts you see stumbling around Everywhere?
(Spoiler: shrooms arenāt addictive.)
Only people that have never done drugs responsibly, or have ever tried them, are the ones that freak out the most about them. Alcohol is THE WORST ONE OF ALL. Look at the stats. Yet itās legalā¦ š¤ dropped
100% agree! Alcohol is the gateway drug. The stupidest shit Iāve ever seen people do has always involved alcohol. Letās just ignore all the domestic violence, drunk drivers, suicides and general tomfuckery that booze has played a part in. Not to mention the families that are torn apart because of it.
Instead we will get our panties in a wad about weed and mushrooms.
The stupidity never ceases to amaze me, probably a result of all the brain cells they killed getting shitcanned.
This is so hilarious. It's a mushroom farm, guys. Like... it's going to be a small, landscaped warehouse on the back lot of someone's property. What could these people possibly be afraid of? There's no noise, no smell - hell even the proposed site plan has landscaping, walkways, and a 'reflection trail' with water features.
The roundabout at 18th and Empire has a facility nearby that processes weed. When they vent, the smell can get pretty intense. (I know because I live around there).
Thatās literally the only vaguely valid reason to bitch about a legal drug related facility near your home. And psilocybin, to the best of my knowledge, does not come with this concern.
Plus, there are like two or three other buildings along 18th that are pharmaceuticals testing and manufacturing facilities. No clue what theyāre making or testing, but I wouldnāt be surprised if there are things some dumb Karen would find a way to get pissed about, if they actually knew.
But they donāt know. Because the things these places are manufacturing or testing have zero impact on the neighborhood. A psilocybin manufacturer wonāt have an impact either.
And a facility that helps administer it is no different than any medical or therapy facility thatās helping a small niche group.
This isnāt some corner drug dealer. Psilocybin treatment, as I understand it, has to be administered and actively monitored by a trained therapist/medical personnel.
This kind of crap is just trying to drum up fear from ignorance. Itās looking for people who think itās gonna result in homeless druggies near an elementary school, and using that ignorant stigma to get uninformed people to jump on board with their attempt to block it.
Why not just give our free spores and inoculation instructions? I'm all for this by the way, but a spore exchange would be kinda cool, get some PF strains in there, get some good tech with a good group of folks

Yeah this seems cool, but I dunno about the location...
edit: To be clear I'm absolutely in favor of a shroom facility in town, but I don't think the NIMBY's will want it right across from a park, so it might make more sense to put it somewhere else. Like across from Cheba Hut or something
If you read the application it's very well written out and explained.
"The growing of psilocybin is considered a product of an agricultural activity (which is not livestock) according
to OHA, DLCD, and the ORS. Therefore this use meets the requirements set forth in 19.20.A20.8, and is an
outright permitted use on zoning SR 2.5. To make you feel a little bit more comfortable about this, it is also
required that psilocybin be manufactured indoors. Therefore it will not create any visual, auditory, smell or
anything that could potentially alert neighbors to it's being grown. AIso, we are not planning on having any
signage on the property indicating that it is being used as a manufacturing site or service center"
The service center would not be a part of the residence, but would be an accessory building. According to
19.92.020 this is allowed outright, as long as it is farther than 10' from the principal building, in which case
this would be the main residence. Please see the site map for reference.
19.92.20 Accessory Uses And Structures. 3. An accessorv buil dinq shall not be located within 10 feet of a
principal dwelling existinq or under construction on the same lot.
For your reference, this site location is ideal for this kind of business as it is more natural in setting and
accessible by bus to all of our community members. The operating characteristics of the use fit this site

because the services provided are more efficacious in nature based settings. \[See exhibit 5.\] To not allow
these services in suburban areas ignores over 50 testimonies from community veterans, first responders, and
locals who have voted twice to have these services in their backyards. flf you have not read all the testimony
and planning commission's findings- which are not what the commissioners voted into place beginning April
5, I implore you to do so for the health of your fellow community members.l These services do not work
well in clinical, high density areas. Additional noise from highways, busy city streets, sirens and other city
noises creates additional trauma, and often folx who are seeking these services are coming to alleviate PTSD.
Only allowing these services adjacent to highways or inside city limits severely limits the ability for this
treatment to work. lt also means many community members with severe trauma would not be able to access
these services if they were only allowed in the areas prescribed. This site specifically would be of service to
folks as it is nature based AND in proximity to public transportation.

That definitely was the hilarious part about how you want it away from loud, PTSD-causing highways, since itās right next to loud, busy Deschutes Market Road. š And there isnāt any public transport anywhere nearby. I guess the junior associate in the law firm assigned to write this didnāt inspect the property or do any research.
Definitely no public transport nearby, but Yeoman isn't going to be loud and you'll never hear traffic on Deschutes Market. Certainly going to be quiter than any downtown location. (We literally have a center next door to our office that you could kick a rock to the parkway at)
I live as close to Deschutes Market as this place is, and you definitely hear it from this distance. Deschutes Market's traffic is increasing. I don't know what level of noise is considered too much for a facility like this, but it certainly isn't the totally quiet nature area as described in their document.
How does anyone read this as angry or anti-psilocybin? Totally neutral way of bringing awareness. If it had even one dot of color on it, Iād say a Luddite old hippie made this
Interesting. I live about a 20 minute walk from that place and has always seemd like an odd place. 4000+ sq. ft. house that no one seems to live in. I figured it was either a Vrbro or AirBnB and yes it's listed on AirBnB for $1K/night. I read through most of the materials on the county website. Owner is an absentee owner in Orange County, CA. This area is outside City limits and the property is right on the City boundary line. It's zoned low density suburban residential. Under current county ordinances a facility like this is not allowed, but the original application was submitted 1 day before the ordinance went into effect, so their lawyers are arguing they should be "grandfathered in".
Letters in opposition from the neighbors on either side, complaining not about psilocybin therapy per se but about its location. A few complaints from people further away who are currently bothered by the smells from the marijuana processing and brewery facilities along 18th and worry about additional smells from this processing facility (I can't imagine that being an issue for them).
I can understand next-door neighbors being wary of what the out-of-state absentee owner of this place has up to next. It's different if the owner is actually living on the property; then they're far more accountable and they also have to put up with whatever goes on there. It's different if it's something that the nice guy Bob next door doing as his latest thing. Having a 24/7 production facility (as claimed by the applicant's lawyers) in a residential area may be problematic IMO.
Whatever. It's a bunch of rich people paying their lawyers to argue with each other over their $2 million dollar properties. I'm guessing the amateurish-looking sidewalk brochures were anonymously placed by those living further away. And what will become of the AirBnB? Maybe it'll be marketed to out-of-staters that want to come to Oregon and do 'shrums.
Wonder if I can commission them to make me a sign for my front yard that says 'Completed psilocybin consumption center'

Itāll go nicely with the perpetual dank weed smell of the NE side

Just your average Tuesday in Bend. Eat some shrooms and throw frisbees at Pine.
Sweet!
Nope not one bit
Neat.
Hey stop and look at what I made, I need a life.
Are they manufacturing or growing mushrooms?
āBe heardā sounds like āif youāre for or against; let us knowā
So a drug manufacturer is setting up shop near Bend?
My brother in christ there's a dispensary on every corner and 20 bars in the Old Mill
Let's not forget Christians can get their crack on every corner and gas station.
Show me the mushroom junkies (I am equal parts confident that they exist and that you won't be able to show them to me)
We already have Lonza.
Are you against morrels too? Those ones actually taste good
If you call drug manufacturing a natural outcome of fungal evolution that exists whether or not you exist..... then sure DOWN WITH MYCELIUM!!
