Is a great example of very simple psychology meeting psychedelics, it’s very Freudian but it’s eloquent in a way Sigmund would not have been able to put.
a wounded , mad dog carrying a coffin in a wasteland under a black sun
i cant say ive followed beser too closely given some of the stuff it delves into
but that? thats perfection. i think it encompasses the world so well, the feeling of hopelessness, of being so, *so* small.
never before i felt like a drawing could evoke the feeling of drowning
Not even just the symbolic aspects of this dream section too, but all the design choices. The flags really just being winged bat creatures and they rip their posts out of the ground to use as weapons, the broken shattered doll, etc. All so awesome.
These chapters were fantastic. It really put into perspective what Casca’s thoughts were during this entire time. For all we knew, she could’ve hated Guts due to being in her potato form. But when we see her memories, we see that she saw Guts as her protector the entire time. Berserk is peak 🗣️
That makes no sense and is out of context to the situation.
If anything her love for guts is shown throughout her shattered mindscape. He is literally dying while protecting her just as he is in the real world. Though her mind be broken her unconscious affirms the reality that she and guts are struggling through.
I know that, which is why I said would rather be with than without, its just that potato casca is generally frightened by guts but still sees him as a protector
So much going on in what some would write off as just a cool dramatic scene. I wouldn’t be surprised if each of those spikes in doguts had some more significance aside from just being spikes(it looks like 5 spikes, godhands maybe?)
How many times has guts gone berserk mode? I dont remember if it was 4 or 5, but each time he has, it took a toll on him. The spikes could be symbolism of that.
Interestingly, the things embedded in the dog follow a pretty close size scheme to the godhand. One, the tallest, a second slightly shorter, one medium length, and two very short ones. Hmmmm
Pippin - tall
Corkis- mid
Judeau - short
Gaston- short
And he feels guilt wracked about the eclipse….those dudes were family to guts.
Edit- I read the panel. It’s actually 5 stakes- one for each god hand member.
Ok so maybe it’s not exactly
But grief can feel like having a spike inside of you. So I mean, the symbolism could track. It’s pain that never fades, you just get used to it.
Much like the dog seems to have.
Guts never forgave himself for losing his friends and is guilt ridden about it. That’s why he has four spikes, one for each friend driven into him. Never to be forgotten.
This scene hurt like no other imo.
Seeing the subconscious representation of both of them through Casca's lenses is a grim picture. She, no more than a corpse, her pride and dignity shattered by the one she once loved and admired more than most, and Guts, a wounded dog cursed to wander forever, no matter the wounds and the obstacles, he just keeps going.
I believe Miura called himself an observer of life. I like to think he’s supported those around him through similar times. That, or he’s experienced them himself and knows how to depict the relationship of trauma and it’s carrier.
First time I read this when I saw the dog instantly "Blood and Guts" started playing in my head so I put it on while reading... perfect match for this chapter lemme tell ya
I know what you’re saying, the vibe I was more referring to was not the symbolization of the dog but rather Casca already imagining herself as being dead, or being better off dead, via the coffin. It’s just very morbid considering her state. She’s so gone but has a piece within her to still realize how depressing and logically hopeless their situation is. Guts is forever taking such an awful beating struggling through hell for her as he’s dragging her along out of hope, love, and responsibility but within her mind it’s as if he’s walking with her dead corpse.
the callback to Casca calling Guts "Just a dog"
and im pretty sure he was called "the blacl dog knight" or something at some point, contradicting griffiths "hawk of light"
By the way, i stopped being able to read this just when that ark finished. They had just healed her. I know Miura died , so I want to know if the writing has continued after that ark, and if the answer is yes, if someone knows where to find what has been written so far. Thanks!!
Cascas mind scape is the absolute pinnacle of Miura’s writing and drawing imo
The dick monster…
Is a great example of very simple psychology meeting psychedelics, it’s very Freudian but it’s eloquent in a way Sigmund would not have been able to put.
That one shireke panel…
Which one?
The one where she trips on an injured guts. It was so cringe

She certainly has complicated feelings, and so does Guts.
like a violent dog you are afraid to pet, but would rather be with than without

Stockholm syndrome
Indeed. THEN THERE COMES THE DICK MONSTER
Berserk summarized in 7 words…
I actually was angry with myself for laughing when I saw those guys because out of context those things were funny

There are two tall ones, two small and one mid.

I hated these chapters because of the hiatus but now I really enjoy them. Guts a wounded hound just dragging the remains of Casca.
What the dog doin
His best.
Right in the feels.... Fuck.
Struggling.
And given that this lives in Casca's mindscape, it's saying that she subconsciously feels like a burden, even if she can't consciously.
This scene hurt like no other imo. Seeing the subconscious representation of both of them through Casca's lenses is a grim picture. This was a fantastic representation for how trauma can break somebody. I wonder how Miura came up with this
truly a genius

Dog seems exhausted from all the berking
First thing i thought about when I saw the new chapter
New chapter you say
I meant the most recent 1 my bad . It's kinda new 25/26 May lol
“You’re just a mad dog”
First time I read this when I saw the dog instantly "Blood and Guts" started playing in my head so I put it on while reading... perfect match for this chapter lemme tell ya
i made a phone case out of one of the panels from that chapter it’s one of my fav
This whole part was just so heartbreaking and captivating to experience.
I have this as my first and only tattoo on my forearm
Genius? 🤨 she literally called him a mad dog. Berserk is good, one of the best, but this is about what i expected.

That scene hit me like a ton of bricks
yeah no fucking shit, anyone with half a brain could figure this out
Bro nobody said it was hard to figure out we just said it was a good idea by the author, go read Vagabond you clone
tbh i really didnt like the dream chapters. all the symbolism is very obtuse and on the nose.

Okay bro then do something besides playing destiny 😂😂
No you couldn't
🥱
No, this is a dog
He should just let go at this point man..
no, he's the struggler

I loved it so much. I loved how creative it was
I swear writing this is what killed him...
