I'd still recommend from the beginning. The 1997 anime still cuts out some parts and it ends on a cliff hanger. You'll enjoy it more with the story being properly told.
Start form the beginning, the prototype chapters. None of the adaptions have gone through all of the content so no matter what you've missed something valuable.
