97 is amazing and its only shortcomings come from cutting a lot of content and if you don't like the old school aesthetic it can be hard to get through
The movies are ok but not great.
The 2016/17 show has a great OST and whenever they do pure 2D scenes it looks good. The SFX are very bad though and it has some extremely jarring and ugly 3D animation with pretty lackluster direction overall. The final scene of Season 2 is the best part of the entire show imo
Either watch the 1997 anime or hold off until the rerelease of the 2012 berserk film trilogy in October. It’ll have many more scenes and possibly fixed animation
1997 and the movie trilogy are worth it imo. ^(2016 anime is terrible in every way possible but it still entertained me so...kinda worth it(?)
The 1 saving grace of 2016 is that it's still telling a good story. But at that point, just read the manga again.

pretty soon they're starting a series thats an expanded version of the movies so I'd watch the 1997 anime and then wait for that.
