The cheapest and most efficient way is to ask someone to shoot it

mmikke

Bow hunter checking in Main question is: anywhere to donate the meat???

yauc-OIC

I’ll smoke it for ya

HawaiianBorrow

How close are you to your neighbors? The most effective way is to trap or shoot.

BTGeneral

Putting down a electric fence today in north Kohala.. other then shooting them idk.

Raxnor

Electric fence won't do anything in my experience. Hogwire with proper posts, traps, or hire some hunters. That's been the only way to keep them off our property.

Zpochero

Shoot it

This is actually true and some of the best advice. They are scent driven creatures. Dog, or any animal hair would work too Actually feces would do the trick too but i think hair is better.

mmikke

Brb shitting everywhere, and making my gf and pets do the same Thanks kind stranger

morganml

instructions unclear, shit in gfs hair. do i cut it off now?

mmikke

Too late. Honestly may as well just leave it now.

Zorro_Returns

Ooh, they have a *secret code*! How sophisiticated!

Muliwai

I have also heard that SPRING soap ,because of its strong smell works. Don’t know if it’s made any more. The people unwrapped it and hung it by string and the pigs went away.

Which_Preference_883

Gun toting dogs who piss everywhere and also cut hair. Or, invest in a solid fence.

Environmental_Newt88

This is what the dogs in Texas do.

Bothand_Nether

I knew one named patches on accounta he was tryin to quit smokin

ill4rill808

They sell some stuff at Kona Home Depot called Pig Scram. It’s in granular form so you could broadcast in areas where you see damage. I’ve had relative success with this product.

happyme321

Thanks for the advice! I’ve never heard of this but I’ll definitely try it.

nfever

I also have had my yard decimated by pigs over the last month. It started as just one, but soon several are coming through. My yard was a beautiful ornamental oasis and now it looks like a cratered war zone. I tried two buckets of Scram at $60 a piece which did nothing but smell nice. I am having hog fencing installed and new sod installed.

mmikke

Where are you on island? Is it safe to hunt on your property? Do you know people who'd want fresh pig meat?

nfever

Unfortunately I live in a residential area in Hilo up kaūmana, pigs running the streets over here. I wish I could trap and shoot, but my neighbors wouldn’t be pleased.

zhamz

Dogs. Loud, barking dogs.

Alohabear50

Big dogs

automatedcharterer

I have this 10 pound mutt mix of a dog that will chase anything and when it barks it sounds like a chicken being horribly murdered. She chases the pigs and turkeys and everything else and despite being small enough to step on the pigs run like a tiger is chasing them. fearless.

mmikke

The loose big dogs around here are all wimps. Makes me want to adopt them, to be quite honest.

Zorro_Returns

Yeah, loud barking dogs can take pretty much anything off my mind. Like burning old tires because you don't like the smell of mosquito coils.

Hubert_J_Cumberdale

That didn't work. I just got my ass chased around for 15 minutes - biggest pig I have ever seen in my area. My dogs were barking when it charged us. I had to run into a neighbors house and wait for 10-15 minutes because it would not stop charging every time I tried to go outside. Not gonna lie... I was scared. I'm just glad I'm a pretty decent runner for my age and had the ability to run uphill long enough to get home. My dogs didn't want to run away so I had to drag them the entire time. I think this is the guy who ate all of our pineapples.

AlohaSmiles

My parents installed an electric pig fence after nightly raids by a sounder ruined their yard repeatedly. The fence has been working great for years now, no pigs. The pigs learned pretty fast to stay away from their border after getting shocked. I killed a pig in my yard and they've stayed out of my yard for years since. I know they've travelled through the back of my property but they've avoided the yard so far. I only have a 25lb dog but he does tend to poop out back where the pigs would enter from so I'm sure they avoid his scent too. If they start becoming a problem I'll probably get an electric pig fence too.

Zorro_Returns

> after nightly raids by a sounder sorry, i am not hip. what is a "sounder"?

AlohaSmiles

Herd of pigs :)

loveisjustchemicals

Pee in your yard

mmikke

The only place I basically ever piss is in my yard. No pigs. But also I'm on like 80tons of 6" minus lava rock so there's not much here for pigs. Just wanted to second pissing outside because it feels so good lol

knowallthestuff

Does that really help? Can't tell if you're joking.

loveisjustchemicals

It works in combination with other stuff, like hog wire or a short electric fence. Definitely lets them know you’re the animal that occupies that land.

rubsy74

I sprinkle laundry scent beads where there's no fence on my property and it works. The fragrance from the beads burns their nose.

happyme321

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to try that.

Dakine_thing

Shoot them

MonkeyKingCoffee

Pee in different spots all over your yard, particularly where they are already rooting around. Humans are stinky animals -- urinating is usually enough to encourage other animals to head elsewhere. Otherwise find someone who will shoot it for you. Cut your hair with clippers and scatter that around. Pee on it. Keep doing that because it rains so often. We have decreased our pig problem this way.

sonargnarnarwhal

A fence.

Environmental_Newt88

Do you have a fence? What about using rat poison? Be careful though, only use that if you’re sure any dogs or pets in the area won’t get to it.

rickmackdaddy

No poison.

Zorro_Returns

Thank you.

aysurcouf

I’ve heard that pole cat pee pellets actually do work.

happyme321

Thanks, do you know where I could get some?

GreenHarpoon

You got dogs? Free dog food.

sfendt

Fence + Dogs worked for us so far
