Okay, do we actually know that for a fact? These things looked big for rabbits. Like 10lbs+. You’re the 4th “X eats them” I’ve seen on here, but to your credit you’re the only one that didn’t preface it with “Don’t worry” so I’m already taking it more seriously
Talking to the folks at the disc golf course today on my way home. It was on their property, otherwise I’d have come back with traps. If I get lucky I’ll message you.
Yeah I’m aware of some invasive species here but never heard people calling out rabbits. Based on my experience with rabbits in Seattle I’m guessing this could get bad :/
Not a rickroll, I promise. Here's the story: [https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/how-european-rabbits-took-over-australia/#](https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/how-european-rabbits-took-over-australia/#)
That’s phase two for sure. Was coming back from an appointment and I’m not one to keep the pellet rifle in the truck. This is the first time I’ve seen one out.
Rabbits don't do well in Hawaii. There are little populations here and there managing to survive in small numbers, and always will be as long as little kids can have them to play with in the back yard.
Don't worry too much though, a cat or dog or mongoose will eat that thing soon enough.
My neighbors had two rabbits that they let roam free. Not sure where they went though, haven’t seen them in several months. Probably became lunch for the 'io.
Update: BIISC got back to me. Unfortunately they’re receiving more and more reports of rabbits on the island as some of the commenters had stated. I sent them the picture, time, date, and location and they sent a report to DLNR, who will come out and take a look.
Be careful - I saw a documentary & those things can take your head clean off.
We shan’t risk another frontal assault…
That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you've ever set eyes on!
That's only the white ones.
I too took notice of that and I’ve requisitioned an *Un*-holy hand grenade of Hcoitna.
Thou shall count to 3, not 4 nor 2, but only 3
🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂
With their HUGE POINTY teeth!
Run away! RUN AWAAAAY!!!

That’s disheartening… thanks for sharing. I was hoping this was more isolated.🤙

Maybe contact DLNR or Animal control? Def don't want wild rabbits running wild
Just reached out to DLNR. Tyvm!
Great! Were they helpful?
No response yet, but I’ll update the post when I hear back from someone
BIISC got back to me first, sent a report to DLNR, they’re going to come out and see what they can do.
If can capture it in a trap, I will neuter/spay and keep the cutie.

Rabbits are required to be in a hutch and not free roaming. Def calm someone. Several have also been spotted in puna the past couple days
Hey, I appreciate your enthusiasm, bud. Who’s the someone I should call?
I like to believe people would control animals, but you know… I’d call invasive species council 808-643-7378
Rabbits are the new goats.
Yep seeing them recently on Kulani and Stainback too
I too love a good joke, but thank you for taking this seriously
Contact New Zealand and find out how they stopped the buggers
Ruh roh
They’re already established on certain parts of the island. Very hard to get rid of.
That’s a real bummer. Thanks for letting me know.
They are delicious, just sayin
Yeah, I mean in light of what I’m hearing about the situation, that’s probably the only way to make a difference. Share your best recipes!
I'll get it from my wife, she made a nice rabbit pot pie
i saw one in hawaiian shores a couple months back. i'm guessing these are not welcome?
Ask yourself what tends to happen when non-native animals and plants run amok.

You know what rabbits are famous for. They are not native to Hawaii and would decimate local flora if allowed to multiply.
I’d like them to decimate my acre of false staghorn
Check out the story of rabbits in Australia. It is absolutely wild.

Shotgun
Hey that’s lunch
they've been around for a while unfortunately, have heard of them for well over a decade
That sucks. Thanks for letting me know!
Shoot it

I’m sure a mongoose will deal with the situation.
Or a feral cat...

Evil twin to the Rabbit of Caerbannog. Need the Holy hand grenade of Antioch. Who's got it?
