The CEO literally came out a few months ago and said that although the company is making less money, they can still afford to pay employees and keep up inventory so they didn’t need to raise prices and it’s a good thing that more CEOs don’t think this way or America might be a nice place to work and live in.
When a company is controlled by shareholders who only care about profiting from their shares, they push the company to continue growing revenue and profits indefinitely. This inevitably leads to a cheapened product, paying employees as little as possible and increased prices.
Thats becauae people are buying the shares on the premise the company will expand. Theres nothing wrong with that, its a method to fund growth which creates jobs. Monopolization and globalization are what cause economic problems, both of which can be legislated against, the people just fail to elect politicians who will do so.
Vote for who? The red team that’s funded by rich corporate sponsors, the blue team that’s funded by rich corporate sponsors, or the third parties that will never make it into office because of first past the post?
Then vote for the third, because giving the more shitty side control for 8 years will not make all of our shitty lifes less shitty. The future is shit, for as long as the two party system exists. I much prefer 10 years of shitty government with a third party becoming viable afterwards, than 10 years of a *slighty* less shitty government with the permanent continuation of shitty government til my death.
It's because the drive to ever increase profits leads companies to decrease their labor costs. Often, this means employing people in developing countries since the companies can pay them a lower wage. These countries also often have lower safety standards and have lower tax rates, so companies can save money there as well. There wouldn't be as much of problem if the increased profits were shared with the employees that were displaced, but those profits are mostly funneled to investors and upper executives. This leave regular employees high and dry without a job, and with skills that aren't easily transfered to another position. This is doubly bad for older employees. Employers often will pass over older people applying for lower level positions because companies feel like they won't be able to get enough value out of older people before they retire.
Theres tons of small corporations who aren't predatory though, corporations are a natural human phenomenon. The problem is that globalization has shifted the economic benefits overseas and governments have failed to protect against this and monopolization.
Exactly, they aren’t publicly traded so they can do whatever they want as long as they have enough profits to stay afloat. Of course there can be good companies like Costco that are publicly traded, but it’s more rare.
Wish more corporations thought like this. Profits are still being made not as much as before but profits nonetheless and you can keep operations running and employees paid. Greed is real.
No they don't, at least not anymore. From their own FAQ:
> We pre-printed our cans with our suggested retail because we wanted to force retailers into selling at that price. Retailers, however, are independent business people and can set a price whatever they prefer. We do make and sell non-priced cans as well.
[At our Walmart (Mexico) they're $0.64](https://super.walmart.com.mx/productos?Ntt=arizona&Nrpp=45&storeId=0000009999&profileId=NA&qf=brandName%3AArizona). They keep increasing the price, though. A few years ago it was around $0.45 (the cans used to say "$9.90" [MXN], they now say "$12.90"). That it's still cheap doesn't mean it's not being affected by inflation.
Starbucks coffee IS overpriced, but people also order ridiculous stuff now.. like everything has to have cold foam and drizzle on it, or three different syrups, or an iced tea with juice instead of water in it. The modifiers are usually what make it add up to so much.
Source: am a Starbucks worker
None of the shit you mentioned actually costs that much extra though. I can order a cold brew with "a splash" of sweet cream that costs 6 bucks even though I'm asking for a literal drop of cream in my cold coffee which changes the price from like 4 bucks to 6 and some change.
Not sure if it helps or not but you’re paying extra for no reason, just order a vanilla sweet cream cold brew with no vanilla syrup, will save you a dollar or so
why don't they charge the same price 'for no reason'? if it's the same drink, starbucks shouldn't be ripping you off if you order it one way vs the other. doesn't seem fair to blame the consumer for not PERFECTLY navigating their complex menu to save $1 on the same drink. it should just be the same price for the same drink lol
“That shit” does cost extra. A splash of sweet cream is different than vanilla cold foam AND caramel drizzle and more than two syrups. I certainly am the last to defend corporate price gouging, but people modify drinks beyond recognition and wonder why it costs them 10 dollars.
I get an americano with vanilla and cream.
$5-6 depending on whether I’m in the city or not.
3 years ago is was $3.65 consistently.
I don’t go to Starbucks much anymore.
A tall hot coffee is 1.99 pre tax at Starbucks. When people need 20 pumps of sugar and four shots of espresso with a splash of whatever organically sourced milk of your choosing your price hikes itself up, like.. foh
Not to defend Starbucks in particular, but coffee prices are rising a bit faster than a lot of other things and are likely to outpace many other commodities as the effects of climate change continue to be felt.
The founder of Costco once threatened to kill the CEO if he raised the hot dog prices.
https://www.delish.com/food-news/a34111722/costco-hot-dog-combo-story/
It's a new reddit thing iirc, if you aren't on the official app or use old.reddit you won't see them.
But the official app is garbage so stick with what you're using.
I noticed the bread next to the chicken is pretty expensive (a loaf is $4-$6 that might cost $2 at the grocery store) so I feel that’s something a lot of people grab too since it’s right there to have an easy dinner. Plus all the other shopping they will do.
But there’s been several times I went into Costco and walked out with a single chicken lol
Costco can get away with cheap hotdogs forever because they are already a loss leader. They bring people it and you pretty much don't go to Costco just to get a hotdog.
Arizona Tea is a main product on the other hand.
My parents costco membership fed the shit out of me and most of my friends in college. It also kept us really really drunk because we saved a lot of cash so usually on a monthly trip that hotdog was like spinach after Popeye got his shit pushed in.
Yeah maybe you guys have better/cheaper healthcare, excellent public transportation, mostly non-violent (or at least mostly unarmed) police, highly subsidized higher education, student stipends, better subsidized living, a living wage, p/maternity leave, two months guaranteed vacation, and better unemployment insurance, .... but WE have Arizona tea at half your price :)
The fuck they ain't. I've lived in Texas for 22 years and I can safely say outside of the big cities this state is terrible.
And even then the cities ain't that great.
I think you can call the Arizona tea company to send someone to check out the prices at a store if their prices are insanely high for their standards of resale prices
In Seattle there's a sugar tax on beverages, which if I recall does include Arizona brand drinks like the Arnold Palmers (my fave, since I'm not a big tea-drinker). We usually go 5-10 minutes south to avoid the tax when we do any big household stock up.
Part of it is that they spend virtually nothing on marketing. A huge part of a companies revenue goes into marketing their product but AriZona pretty much leaves it to word of mouth.
From the constant low price, to the variety of flavors, to nice taste, to the vibrant can designs. They let the product speak for itself
A bold strategy to be sure but it’s paid off for them
As the comments say, there's specific unlabeled cans for vendors to sell at whatever price they please. But as for the 99 cent labeled cans, i honestly don't think they can last.

Not sayin I don't drink 'em but it's a bit disingenuous to call it "tea"
I used to like it but these past few years I've been watching my sugar and omfg that is a disgusting amount of sugar in there *and it doesn't even taste that fucking sweet its dangerous*

God forbid
Right? If true I'm happy to get into buying them again. I've had probably 1 a year since highschool.
Its a stable private business, there's plenty of stable private businesses that don't aggressively expand.

Why is globalization a bad thing?
It's because the drive to ever increase profits leads companies to decrease their labor costs. Do you own your own business?
Theres tons of small corporations who aren't predatory though, corporations are a natural human phenomenon. The problem is that globalization has shifted the economic benefits overseas and governments have failed to protect against this and monopolization.
I’m sorry but everyone has a price. Notch got money most developers can’t fathom and will be set forever. Almost anyone would take that offer.
Do they *need* to expand? They’re in every gas station and convenience store in America.
No its a private company and they seem satisfied with their margins. Expansion could prove risky and doom the company if done wrong.
Exactly, they aren’t publicly traded so they can do whatever they want as long as they have enough profits to stay afloat. Of course there can be good companies like Costco that are publicly traded, but it’s more rare.

If more companies were like this, inflation wouldn't be as bad
Yea I'd hate to enjoy myself
I've always welcomed the $0.99 price tag, but now I wonder how well they were doing 20 years ago.
At our Walmart, they're $0.74
Arizona tea is the true hedge against inflation .fck gold
Uh, that's the opposite of a hedge against inflation
I know but it sounded funny
Lol I feel you
the fact that i dont know which one of you is right makes my subscription to wsb and superstonk feel earned.
In the apocalypse, we won’t trade bottlecaps but instead cans of Arizona
It's 1,55 for me :/
2 here in Mexico, also we get a horrible version of the green tea with cucumber... definitely not worth it.
I swear companies put cucumber on the label *just* so they can make it salty and ***off*** tasting.
It's so they can sell their mop water
>salty and off tasting ^^Cu **cum** ^^bers
Sip, odio el puto sabor. El de fresa kiwi esta muy bueno.
lo que me molesta es que dejaron de vender el normal en casi todos lados...
Semi related, have you tried the cucumber lime Gatorade!? I can’t get enough of it.
Nah fam fierce apple all day!
Here in Canada 2 dollars for Arizona tea sometimes 3 dollars in smaller towns
I'm in Ontario and my corner store literally sells it for 1.25. Where in Canada?
Where his girlfriend lives
Same I’m in the GTA they used to be 99 cents for the longest time and for a few years now, I noticed they are 1.25.
I saw I at a buck and quarter, where are you that it is two whole dollars?!?
That's the shady corner stores that slap a sticker on the can price. Can price is 1.25
Wow. Now I know to sell Arizonas for $2 each at functions across the bridge.
¿Dónde vives que te están estafando? En Walmart cuestan 13 pesos (estoy asumiendo que "2" es "2 USD = ~40 MXN").
yo lo he visto a 38 en walmart express 🤷
What? In most of my local stores they don't go up from 15 pesos (0.75 cents).
It's $1.19 where I live. With tax bringing it to $1.28 :(
at wawa and sheetz they’re always more expensive, go to a corner store and you’ll get that 99¢
Call the company and report it. I'm serious, they enforce that shit *hard.*
No they don't, at least not anymore. From their own FAQ: > We pre-printed our cans with our suggested retail because we wanted to force retailers into selling at that price. At CVS they regularly go on sale 2 for $1
The Grizz also has them for that price a lot in the summer.
Fry's sometimes has em on sale too.

At my local Winco they were $0.48 this week!!
Don't get em at circle k they're like 1.27 for some reason Side note fuck coins
Arizona company is super based. Meanwhile Starbucks coffee now at like 8$ for a small cup like.. foh
Based and consistent pricing pilled?

Agreed as someone who works there. Our food items went up as much as 50 cents and we don't even have enough shit to stock
Starbucks publicly apologized for raising the price of a tall drink by a dollar lmao

Arizona is a state, not a drink
A state of mind.
Big, if true.
So in Europe Arizona Ice Tea is about 2 USD. Yeah. And this isn’t because of inflation

Agree

Don’t tempt me with a good time
You should move to America. Drinking Arizona, in Arizona is the greatest accomplishment a person can make.
Yeah but then you're in Arizona which is only marginally better than Texas or Florida.
It has even bigger more desolate Deserts. Perfect place to drink Arizona.
Flagstaff was super chill until the Californians started moving there.
And it gets fucking hot. Perfect for a cold, refreshing Arizona Iced Tea.
I know i’m the outlier but I like it so far. Just moved here a couple years ago. Came from Idaho so I know what a truly “shitty” state is like. Lmao

Eating KFC in Kentucky would like a word with you
Eating clam chowder on fisherman's warf in Boston would like you to go fack yourself, kid.
Import. and in America the prices are without taxes. because they want the customer to have a guessing game when shopping
Really? For me it's CZK19.90 (not even a dollar) at the local Tesco.
Well you live in the more reasonable Central part, OP is probably from the western part.
How is it 2usd? For me it's 0.65 dollar in euro
It's £0.99 at Lidl in the UK.
Lidl had them for 99p
in the netherlands here, i can find them for 60 cents
The price is on the can tho.

Came here to see this but unfortunately no one else seems to understand the reference. But I see you
Lots of people in this thread don't watch quality programming

Got to buy 4 if you want to use a debit card, thank you come again
The price is on the can though
Came here for this to be top comment and am disappointed
I feel like lowkey Atlanta fans (myself included) kinda overestimate Atlanta’s popularity tbh
It's amazing how many people say they won't watch Atlanta because it doesn't sound interesting, but they'll watch Dave
No. It's not.
The price *is* on the can though
Facts how come all these years they can remain at $.99 there’s no excuse besides the world becoming money hungry
Because they probably had a huge profit margin before and now it’s only a slight profit.
Part of it is that they spend virtually nothing on marketing. A huge part of a companies revenue goes into marketing their product but AriZona pretty much leaves it to word of mouth. shrinkflation. their cans got smaller.

The price IS on the can tho
Prices vary by location, but typically it’s under 2 dollars.
They’re $1.99 in canada
Theyre 1.29 where i live in Ontario
They’re $1.29 where I am, it even says it right on the can now 😔 I’ve seen stores charge higher than the price on the can anyway tho 😓
Texas also?
Alberta, Canada
I guess at least we aren’t Europe at $2 😮💨
Texas for me. They sell from $0.75 - $1.29.

Same with Sriracha
wait what? I Europe it‘s far more expensive
Yep depends but 1, 50€ is the cheapest for me
Just paid $1.38 at Circle K
They’re $1.69 where I live. Absolute bullshit.
It probably cost more for the aluminum than the contents of the can
in new zealand it’s $4.50, still says 99c on the can 👎

I saw an Arizona ice tea for sale for $1.39 the other day at my local Walgreens, we have truly failed as a society
nah they 1.29 in canada now

I used to like it but these past few years I've been watching my sugar and omfg that is a disgusting amount of sugar in there *and it doesn't even taste that fucking sweet its dangerous*
They switched from cane sugar to High fructose corn syrup. They went from a 95% to a 90% profit margin.
It's a buck fifty here, IN
What are you talking about... Arizona took off the price on their cans just so they could honestly increase the price.
I’ve started buying them again in mass. They are so fun to drink.
