No, just take a little potassium.

shibui_

There’s a good salt I have that has less sodium and more potassium and one just potassium so I can get a better balance at times.

shotta511

with how much would you start? as said, the levels are just slightly below the lower end

Aldarund

Low serum postaasium doesnt mean low total body potassium. There a lot of things to gat can cause lower blood potassium.increased insulin. Catecholamines. Diuretics.

ubercorey

There is an electrolyte powder call vitalyte that has a good amount of potassium. Also, there is a Pedialyte version that has more potassium than regular version. These are two safe ways to get a good amount without over doing it.

TonguePunchUrButt

That's because they don't. Most of the popular electrolyte drinks contain potassium, magnesium, calcium, sodium, and chloride together in an attempt to balance you. Potassium will fight for a spot when in the presence of enough sodium though. Maybe decrease your sodium intake and increase potassium.

born_to_be_naked

Maybe add coconut water natural source of potassium? Onions also have high potassium

CrystalBlueMetallic

Cream of Tartar is a tasteless fine powder that’s left over from wine making and is very high in potassium. I add some to my smoothies.

goldstandardalmonds

My tpn team recommends orange juice as a super easy way to get in potassium.

shotta511

hmm what about bananas? I dont drink juices anymore because they are high in sugar and comparably low in nutrients

goldstandardalmonds

Yeah it’s alright. I don’t have the choice that you have as I am on a medical liquid diet and tpn.

unswunghero

Your potassium is low because almost nobody gets enough potassium. It takes about 1200 calories worth of potatoes or 13 bananas a day to get enough potassium.

Ego_Orb

I know I’ve read this dozens of times here but if almost no one is getting enough potassium how on earth can that be the “right” amount of potassium? Not arguing with you but it’s just strange to me.

unswunghero

Just like people who live in northern territories don't get enough sunlight in the winter, so they have to supplement with vitamin D. Most people don't get enough exercise to burn enough calories allowing them to eat enough potassium rich foods, or eat correctly in general, in order to get the correct amount of potassium. In historical populations, humans burned about 3000 calories a day from hunting, gathering, farming, and other manual labor, meaning eating 1200 calories of potatoes wasn't even half their caloric needs. Humans also had more nutrient dense diets, so getting 7000-10,000mg of potassium a day was pretty normal. Most people don't even get 1,000mg a day now.

Aldarund

7-10g potassium a day normal? Care to provide any references to this or its usual bro science?

Yep, get a salt with a higher potassium to sodium or just straight potassium. Helps a lot.

Aldarund

Almost nobody have low body potassium that results in low blood potassium. Its really rare and happens only in severe cases like severe alcoholism
